Waste of Money
1 Star Review   By PFloyd on Home Depot - May 26, 2013

Bought these bulbs thinking about the money savings & good for the environment. With the promise they would last 20+ years and cost about 8x that of normal lights. Unfortunately, have had to go back twice in less than a year and replace a couple of them. They burn out faster than the halogen lights. This technology is a far from being mature and the quality is pure rubbish!! I would stay away until they find a better solution - not worth the cost!

Excellent bright light
5 Star Review   By Dick on Home Depot - May 7, 2013

I've been waiting a long time for a LED bulb that I could truly say is worth the money. So far, so good. These bulbs replaced the CFL's that I had installed years ago. The CFL's were okay except for the fact it would take a long time, especially in the winter, to get full intensity. Not so with the LED's They come on quickly and the intensity is more than satisfactory. The saying goes, if my wife likes them, then they must be okay. They are okay in her book.

Bulbs don't last
2 Star Review   By Marc on Home Depot - May 2, 2013

I have bought 3 of these bulbs in the past 18 months and have had to change all 3 of them out. They do not last as advertised. I have the correct recessed can with BR40 trim kit to leave as much clearance as possible from the bulb since it gets so hot. Home Depot needs to stop selling these or get them redesigned.

Doesn't fit in tapered BR40 cans
2 Star Review   By bwbw on Home Depot - Apr 5, 2013

I was very excited to try this bulb, and unfortunately it won't fit in my can fixtures. This bulb does not taper like a real BR40 bulb. Instead it has a much wider heatsink under the top of the bulb and it will not screw into the fixture. Maybe it will work if you have a vertical (non-tapered) fixture, but I couldn't even see if it lit up.

Watch the Heat
4 Star Review   By Toyz on Home Depot - Mar 26, 2013

I have bought 7 of these so far. None on dimming switches. All are performing very well in 6 inch cans. 4 month's so far. 5 are on for 7 hours daily minimum. I want 4 more, But, they are pricey. Color is very good. Back of bulbs get hot. 200++degrees. LED's and circuitry hate this heat. Lower temperatures = longer life. What I did was change my trim rings to non air-tite versions. 1/2"+ gap around bulb to trim ring edge now and top of can is open. Also bulb bracket was lowered. Bulb top is slightly out of the fixture now, as apposed to the deep inset in the old trim rings. Better area lighting resulted.

One of the better choices in LED flood lamp bulbs
5 Star Review   By Jason2278 on Home Depot - Mar 3, 2013

I've had one of these lights for several weeks in a bathroom where there are two recessed ceiling fixtures (one has this bulb, and the other has a traditional incandescent flood lamp). In a nutshell the positive aspects of this bulb are: * Color temperature (2700K) of the light is very similar to the incandescent bulb. * The light is bright enough that it doesn't feel like a compromise relative to a traditional incandescent flood light bulb. * I have not had any difficulty using this light on a dimming circuit. * Light diffusion is very broad, just as it would be with an incandescent indoor flood lamp bulb (you can't say that for a lot of other LED flood lamp bulbs, especially those on which you can actually see the individual LED elements, which tend to project beams of light that are very narrow and directional). As a result, this bulb works very well in a space with lower (i.e. 8') ceilings. * Cost is pretty reasonable, especially if you live in an area where the local utility is providing a subsidy/discount. The only downside: * The heat sink fins on the bulb are rather large and may not fit in all ceiling light cans.

Not so Bright
1 Star Review   By Teqniqal on Home Depot - Mar 2, 2013

Lamp package says its as bright as 90 Watt BR40. They must have a VERY broad coverage pattern compared to an incandescent BR40 Flood to make this claim. Reality: Only 75% the light level (measured foot candles at typical working distance) when replacing the typical 120V BR40 60 Watt Halogen lamp (tested against both GE 'Edison' and Philips 'Halogena' products). Not instant-on, either, there is a second or so delay from when you flip the switch until it comes on.

Hardly lasts a few months
1 Star Review   By BigHouseOwner on Home Depot - Jan 31, 2013

I built a huge new house a year ago, and decided to get these bulbs for our nearly 200 can light fixtures. At first I was happy because it was going to save me money on utilities, and the bulbs put out a nice light, but I didn't realize the problems I'd have. Firstly about 30 of those original 200 have since burned out, so they don't last very long at all. We only had them on 4 or 5 hours a day at most. I'm not looking forward to having to buy replacements for $30 bulbs so often. I was exchanging them at Home Depot, but it's embarrassing to show up every 2 weeks with more burned out bulbs. Secondly, there is a delay on turning them on. Granted it's only a fraction of a second, but it's long enough to wonder if you hit the right switch. Also, this delay is not consistant, so in a room with 6 bulbs, they aren't in sync turning on, so it looks weird. Don't buy these ecosmart bulbs, they're not what they say they are.

Very happy with the light
5 Star Review   By cstein on Home Depot - Jan 31, 2013

I have a large home and standard br40 lights were burning out constantly. So I deciced to try these in areas with heavy usage. Over the last year I have replaced 20 lights with this light and all have performed well. The light color is close to standard br40 bulb and they dim well. So far very happy with the light.

Excellent light quality, efficiency and price
5 Star Review   By Rick on Home Depot - Jan 29, 2013

Light quality is very close to the soft white of incandescent bulbs. It is diffused well and does not have the spot light quality of earlier gereration LEDs HD sold. Ours are on a 20 year old dimmer switch. When moved to the full dim position some of the bulbs buzz. They may require a new dimmer made for LEDs, but I have not found one yet. The Luton LED/CFL switch I bought would not dim them at all. It was installed by an electrician, and he could not get either of two different ones to dim.

Will Not Dim
2 Star Review   By Corky on Home Depot - Jan 18, 2013

Took the plunge and invested in 45 of these. What a mistake! The light output is bright and warm - no problem there. However, I cannot find a dimmer that works with multiple lamp circuits. Single lamp circuits work ok with cl-rated dimmers and standard dimmers, even though the brightness range is limited. Circuits with two or more lamps get noisy and begin to flutter and flash when the dimmer is applied. I am going back to halogens.

Does not dim. flashes
3 Star Review   By frustrated on Home Depot - Jan 11, 2013

Installed 8 bulbs in vaulted ceilings. using recommended lutron dimmer the lights start flashing midway. for some time they worked only in the brightest position or the lowest. Now one of the bulbs keeps flashing no matter what position the dimmer switch is. Not sure if it dimmer problem or the light bulb problem.

Great light does not dim
4 Star Review   By Ecostve on Home Depot - Jan 1, 2013

I love the look of these lights but need to offer a warning..they do not dim. No matter what the packaging says they do not dim. I used the recommended led dimmer on a circuit various numbers of bulbs, they dim 10% then start to buzz and flash, I retuned as many as I had not yet unpacked.

First one burned out in less than three months
1 Star Review   By zooo23 on Home Depot - Dec 2, 2012

I bought 4 of these as the first 4 LED's for my house. With a 5 year warranty and the savings in electric costs, they would eventually pay for themselves, right? Well, the first of the 4 went out in a little over two months. I paid $35 for the light.

Wow! Nice light...hope they last!
5 Star Review   By Texasdude on Home Depot - Nov 6, 2012

Replaced a couple of in the ceiling CFL bulbs with these and I'm very pleased with the brightness and look. They take a couple of seconds to light up but are at full output when they light...no big deal to me since they are so energy efficient. Hope they come out with some bright smaller lamp sized bulbs soon. I would switch everything to LEDs today if I could find some higher output bulbs that would fit the smaller fixtures...I'm sure they will be out there in the near future...but in the meantime 5 stars for this bulb!

Beware - they don't fit R40 cans
1 Star Review   By MtKisco on Home Depot - Oct 23, 2012

Buyer beware -- these bulbs do not fit average R40 recessed lighting trims. You will have to replace or modify the trim on every can before these will fit. The tapering of the bulb is not identical to incandescent bulbs.

5 Star Review   By Rido on Home Depot - Oct 23, 2012

Price is still on the high side but I am pleased with the purhcase so far. Hopefully it last 20 years as they claimed.Use less electricity and It is bright as 90 watt conventional bulb. Also this new bulb does not generate much heat so it helps on the cooling costs during summers. Plannining to replace the whole house with these and I am waiting for the pricess to come down a little.

Excellent Light Dispersion for a Parking Lot
5 Star Review   By engradio on Home Depot - Sep 23, 2012

I installed a conventional floodlight fixture for an apartment parking area to replace a fluorescent fixture that failed. Since the fixture has two floodlight sockets, I decided to buy this one and buy one equivalent fluorescent bulb. The results are that the LED has a nice incandescent color and had an even light dispersion on the parking area. The fluorescent bulb tends to be slightly pink and the light spread was further but not as even. This bulb gives me bright light where it is needed and if it last long enough would be a potential great value.

Great replacement for incandescent bulbs!!!
5 Star Review   By southbound on Home Depot - Aug 10, 2012

I have purchased 8 of these so far and plan on purchasing 42 more for the house. I installed 6 in the bonus room where the kids are always playing. The room needed a little more light than what the 65W floods put our anyway so these bulbs worked out perfectly. The 2700K color temperature is almost an exact match to the bulbs that were there and it's a very warm appealing light. The lights dim nicely but only go to about 10% before shutting off. Not really a big deal because 25% is good. I have also noticed that the color of the light doesn't stay consistent at different levels and turns whiter the lower the bulb is dimmed. Not a deal killer at all though! I experienced the "delay" when I had these mixed in a circuit with other bulbs but the delay is almost impossible to detect now that the bulbs all match. One a side note, I dropped one of these 23 feet when installing and it worked just fine after the fall. A glass bulb would have shattered! Based on my families usage, the lower current draw of these bulbs and lower heat emissions, I estimate a return on investment in about 9 months on the bulbs I've purchased so far. I replaced all my outside cans with the 14W version and some of the other lights with the Philips 8W models. Pros: Lower energy usage, Lower heat output, dimmable, great color temp, long life(claimed... time will tell), nice beam output, looks like a regular bulb, durable. Cons: Still expensive, doesn't dim lower than about 10%, inconsistent color when dimmed, slight turn on delay if mixed with other bulbs. I highly recommend these bulbs to anyone looking to move to LED. The high cost of the bulbs will be well worth it if the claim of 20+ years holds true and the cost of energy keeps going up.

So far so good - great light quality!
4 Star Review   By tigers27 on Home Depot - Aug 4, 2012

Love the 2700K color temperature. You can barely tell the difference with the CFLs and other incandescents I still have. Swapped 6 of these out and will eventually do more once the price comes down. Only issue so far is finding a suitable dimmer that works with these - ordered Lutron's new MACL dimmer directly - HD's website and local stores still have the old model that doesn't work with LEDs.

Great replacement with one caveat
4 Star Review   By dblc on Home Depot - Jul 20, 2012

Finding a replacement for BR40 100 watt incendescent floods used in our kitchen and basement has been challenging. The 70w halogen bulbs have all burned out prematurely and some even shattered immmediately after installation. CFLs on the kitchen dimmer have also failed prematurely and require minutes to get to full brightness. These LED are almost perfect. They dim satisfactory and have lasted about 3 months so far. The lighting quality and brightness is nearly perfect. The only problem is the 2 second delay on a cold start that was mentioned by others.

Not ready for market
1 Star Review   By JimD on Home Depot - Jun 27, 2012

Does not match claims of instant on and dimmable. It is almost instant on, but still takes about a second which may be ok. The dimable claim is a half truth. While it does work on a dimmer, it is still about half bright at the lowest dimmer level. The other traditional bulbs in the circut are virtually off. This makes the bulb unusable.

Excellent light output & color
5 Star Review   By HoustonTexasGuy on Home Depot - Jun 26, 2012

I installed two of these LED's in our porch can lights under the eve and the color looks like a normal light bulb. They offer a wider coverage than the previous normal light bulb as well. Their heavy, but seem well built. Very happy with them and hope they last! So far about 2 months with no issues.

A real LED flood light that actually is a flood not a spot
5 Star Review   By jimb on Home Depot - Jun 2, 2012

This is supposed to be only a 90 watt flood with less lumens but it has similar light output as my 120 watt incandescent floods. They look like a regular flood light and have a better flood pattern then my incandescents. Granted they are really expensive but they have 10X the life expectation and a 5 year warranty and 9 bulbs burn about the same electricity as one 120W incandescent. Added benefit is they work with my dimmer switches. I'm going to buy a few every month so I can eventually replace all my other flood spots. The only thing that is different is when you turn them on. A compact florescent flood takes 3 minutes to reach full intensity. When I turn on the led flood there is a one second delay before it turns on BUT the light is at full intensity immediately! I will replace all my floods eventually.

Nice light, but slow response time
3 Star Review   By ImADIYer on Home Depot - May 15, 2012

I decided to start replacing my old bulbs with LED bulbs, so I'm taking it slowly at first. This is my very first LED. While the brightness is excellent, the color is good, and the frosted lens makes for great light diffusion, the response time is very questionable. When this LED is cold it takes about 2 seconds for the light to turn on after hitting the switch. This is MUCH worse than the CFL it's replacing. Everything I read about LEDs suggest that this technology is "Instant-On". Not this one. This may be a deal breaker for future LED purchases. This is NOT being used on a dimmer.

Finally an LED flood that replicates incandecent
4 Star Review   By Gary on Home Depot - May 8, 2012

I've returned too many flood LED lights that give off starker cold light than your typical flourescent bulb. These are the first I'm happy to keep installed, as they are almost equivalent to the incandescent bulbs I've always used. They still don't match exactly for two reasons, though small ones--they still have that 1 second delay to turn on (same as most flourescent bulbs) and they don't dim as much as an equivalent wattage incandescent. Therefore, I'd recommend you plan to replace all incandescents in a room with these so you don't make the difference obvious.

WARNING: Slightly bigger than average BR40
1 Star Review   By BrianC on Home Depot - May 6, 2012

This "BR40" bulb is slightly (ever so slightly) bigger than the BR40 cans in my home. All other BR40 bulbs fit (incandescent and CFL). If I turn the bulb around I can shove the bulb through (with effort) But when trying to put it in the correct way there's no way to screw the bulb into the socket because I've got nothing to hold onto and it sticks too much to the can's opening. I cannot recommend this bulb, because it doesn't work for me. I would recommend buying one, taking it home and testing it out. "you mileage may vary"

An absolute no-brainer
5 Star Review   By DoubleJ on Home Depot - Apr 19, 2012

Can't agree more with the positive experiences others report. I replaced 6 75W halogen floods in our kitchen, all of which stay on 8-10hrs every day. Not one of our many guests has believed it or been able to tell the difference. Warm, even light, instant-on, 3 distinct dim settings (paired with LED Dimmer)...it's indeed the energy-efficient bulb for which we've been waiting. Love watching the nearly double-digit drop in my electric bill. Add in the cost of replacing halogens once a year and these six bulbs will pay for themselves in 2 years. All while slashing our carbon output. Fantastic.

No spot-ligting; no warm-up time; good brightness; good reliability so far. Was able to carefully use the suction cup pole to install it in my high vaulted ceilings, just like a regular flood, despite the heavy-ish heat sink. After one month happy reading family. And after close to a month, am eager to get my electric bill...

Wonderful lights !! These lights are attractive and provide outstanding lumen output (both unusual in LED). I love these BRIGHT lights!
5 Star Review   By Jenni on Home Depot - Mar 20, 2012

I made 7 trips back and forth to Home Depot and another major store trying all different brands/types of LED flood lights for our living room. We only have 4 flood lights and it was very dim, but these do an amazing job lighting up the room. They are true flood lights as opposed to other bulbs I tried that were labeled flood lights but were actually direct light. I loved them so much I replaced the 4 flood lights in my son's playroom. They are definitely pricey, but have a 5yr warranty so I'm hoping they are well worth the price in the end. I've had these lights almost 1 month and my only complaint is the 2 second delay from flipping the switch til the light comes on, but I can easily live with this annoyance because the brightness in the living room and playroom makes such a difference.

These don't fit in a BR40 Can ......
2 Star Review   By LED4THEHEAD on Home Depot - Mar 11, 2012

Purchased these in store after trying BR30 and PAR38 75 watt equivalents. My original 65 watts were all Sylvania incand's marked BR40. These "BR40's" don't come close to fitting in the can, and are not in the same tolerance for this type of light bulbs. Very disappointing. The store personnel were extremely helpful.

was not happy with the color of the light when I got it home.
3 Star Review   By termite on Home Depot - Mar 7, 2012

does not have the effect or room coverage of lighting I wanted. A Sales Associate took a great deal of time with me, but I guess it's just difficult judging color when you're in the store versus at home.

Great Bulbs
4 Star Review   By rtoupal on Home Depot - Feb 25, 2012

The color and brightness appear to exactly duplicate the original 90 watt incandencent bulb. I have also noticed that the dimmer switches work and do not produce an audible hum. I plan to repace all my major can lights in my home with the objective of saving on energy costs. A five star can only be given when the price drops to that of the original bulb.

Beware the Shape
4 Star Review   By Brian on Home Depot - Feb 14, 2012

I have used this for just a few weeks now and I can recommend it. I first tried to replace halogens in this shape with CFLs, but the entire family complained about the "blueness" of the light and the length of time it took to warm up to full luminosity. These are virtually instant on - there is a brief delay (less than a second) before it goes on after you flip the switch. The light color matches the warmth of the halogens. The only negative is the bulb shape. It does not have the same taper as a conventional BR40 but is more "bulbous." This caused it not to fit in the same can. This was solved fairly readily by purchasing a short extender (relatively inexpensive) which sits between the bulb and the existing socket. But this causes the bulb to be less recessed in the can than the halogens were. This is a minor annoyance and not a deal breaker for me. But it could be for some. Note that I had difficulty finding other LED BR40s, and the ones I found were even more pricey.

Emits good light but quality control is an Issue
4 Star Review   By Dave on Home Depot - Feb 6, 2012

I purchased 16 of these to replace 150 watt incandescent exterior floodlights. The plastic diffusers on 3 of these were loose. Of these 3, two diffusers came off in my hand as I removed the bulbs from the box. The light that is emitted from these bulbs is excellent. Even though they are replacing 150 watt floodlights and are only rated as 90 watt equivalents I think the drop-off in lumens is minimally noticeable. And the light seems to be more even though I cannot explain why. They seem to provide more 'flood' rather than 'spot' lighting. These seem to be discontinued. Maybe the quality control issue? I sure hope they get that worked out because I would purchase a few more. FYI I also have the 75w equivalent of these installed as exterior lights in another property I own and they are good too (no QC issues either). They just can't light up a really big property like the BR40 (90w equivalents) can.

This is a great product.
5 Star Review   By LondonFlat on Home Depot - Jan 25, 2012

We love these LEDs. They provide great light. We installed them in recessed lighting in our kitchen. They are controlled by a dimmer switch, and we keep them on almost all the time when we are home. We hope that the price will come down on the LEDs. They are MUCH superior to the ubiquitous flourescent bulbs which do not give adequate lighting! We are waiting for someone to market a 100 watt equivalent LED. We will be among the first customers.

Good but problems dimming
4 Star Review   By NickJ on Home Depot - Jan 24, 2012

I see others say they can dim to almost zero with a standard Leviton dimmer but I got excessive flickering with my old dimmer (?) so I bought Lutron CTCL-153PDH-IV dimmers which claim to be made for CFL and LED dimming. One dimmer had flicker even on FULL brightness so I'm returning it. The other seems to work OK at full brightness. It has a range adjustment and it requires about 80% minimum brightness to not flicker so I'm only getting about a 20% reduction in light output which isn't enough to create the soft appearance my wife wants when we entertain so I am still looking for a solution. I don't know if these bulbs (3 on the dimmer) are defective or if these dimmers aren't what they claim to be. But otherwise the bulbs do have warm light and seem brighter than 90 watt equivalent. One out of the 5 I initially ordered had the plastic lens glued on in only one spot and loose -unattached - about 340 degrees around its perimeter - so if many are that sloppily made you might not want to use the "suction cup on pole" technique for installing bulbs. If a suction cup had been applied to this loosly attached plastic lens it would certainly have come off during installation. Of course if it lasts 25 years I may never have to change it.

Perfect solution if you can't wait for CFL warm-up
4 Star Review   By EastTNBill on Home Depot - Jan 24, 2012

Love it, I've now replaced several CFL reflector floods that took so long to warm up I could go do something else while waiting. Color temperature matches classic incandescent, they are instant-on, and Home Depot has fixed the packaging problems that previously left these arriving broken way too frequently. Still a bit pricy, but worth it for the features.

Superb LEDs
5 Star Review   By heywardjr on Home Depot - Jan 23, 2012

I tried a couple of these to replace some bulbs in my basement. After seeing how great they look, I ended up replacing all my florescent 4ft tubed fixtures with 20 of these and my basement has never been as bright. I love knowing the energy used is a fraction of what I was using when all the lights were on. I now have these in my garaage and outside. Love them.

Good so far
5 Star Review   By DFWledGUY on Home Depot - Jan 10, 2012

I tried this bulb, a different LED bulb (one without a diffuser), a CFL, and an incandescent all in the same can lighting system. This bulb was the only one that compared to the incandescent bulb. The other LED bulb that did not have a diffuser (you could see the LEDs) was more like a spotlight despite being called a flood light. The CFL did not dim well, it made a loud buzz. This bulb dims pretty well and makes a nice wide glow. It claims to be a replacement for a 90 watt incandescent, but was only a tiny bit brighter than the 60 watt incandescent in the adjacent fixture.

Great outcome replacing CFL bulbs with these
5 Star Review   By David on Home Depot - Dec 29, 2011

After about five years, my old CFL bulbs began failing one at a time. I used standard CFL lamp bulbs in ceiling can fixtures that can accept R30 or R40 sized bulbs. I tried replacing with CFL R30 (not bright enough) and CFL R40 (too dim when first starting). I was about to just put in standard bulbs when I ran across these when they first came out. They were a bit pricey, but I figured if these really will last 25,000 hours then that works out to about 17-18 years of life using them four hours a day. What I like is that they are warm white, like incandescent bulbs but the color gamut is wider than incandescent bulbs, making them appear slightly whiter than 2700K but is barely noticeable. They do come on full brightness in about one second. After running for hours, they are cool to the touch. I have installed leviton dimmable switches and these bulbs dim very well... just make certain to get the correct kind of dimmer that is compatible with LED lighting and you will be fine. I highly recommend this line of bulbs after having used them for several months now, trouble free.

Update to Review "So Far, So Good"
1 Star Review   By Keith on Home Depot - Nov 29, 2011

In less than a month one of the bulbs I purchased has already failed (see video). They look great but I'm not waiting to see how long it takes the other bulbs to fail. All of them are going back to the store tomorrow. This is CFL deja vu for me and I just can't recommend a product that fails so quickly. I will wait for LED technology to mature before I pay a premium for an expensive light bulb like this again.

So far, so good
4 Star Review   By Keith on Home Depot - Nov 16, 2011

I'm encouraged by what LED lights can potentially accomplish, however, currently this newer technology generally is not ready for primetime. My experience has been that these EcoSmart BR40 LED Flood Light Bulbs ARE ready, from both an aesthetic and functional standpoint. After trying out many bulbs and returning them, these bulbs are truly a breath of fresh air (so far). Aesthetically most people would not notice that they are LED lights. The way the light is diffused makes them appear to be just another bulb. I do notice a light that is somewhat more blueish, however, not overwhelmingly so. We have incandescent lights all around them and I don't notice a sharp contrast. Those who are versed in lighting may be able to tell the difference, but so far none of my guests have noticed a difference from the old CFLs we had previously. Aesthetically speaking, when compared to all of the other LED lights of this type that I have tried, these blow them out of the water. Many are not diffused and have a spotlight effect. Many others visually accentuate the fact that there are many small lights and a heat sync present. We like both the light this bulb casts and their visual appearance. Assuming that these LEDs last close to their claimed lifetime, at the electricity rates that I currently pay, the math still works out very much in favor of purchasing them (even after paying a premium for them as an early adopter of this technology). I'm also cautiously optimistic because I initially felt the same way about the value of CFL bulbs, but few I used ever lasted anywhere near their claimed lifetime. Only time will tell. My bulbs aren't on a dimmer yet, so I can't speak to their performance in that respect. The two cons I have found are: 1. Their price (which I'm sure will go down as production ramps up). 2. There is a short delay when the light switch is turned on and when the bulbs light up. So far I'm happy with my purchase. I haven't used them on a dimmer switch yet, but I'm hoping that they will perform just as well.

Good Color and nice and bright
5 Star Review   By Jorel on Home Depot - Nov 15, 2011

The coloring was better than I expected. They usually have a blue tint to it, but this was warm white as advertised. I love that they are bright right away not like the CFL.

one of the better LED light bulbs available
5 Star Review   By GoingSolar on Home Depot - Oct 18, 2011

I bought this lightbulb as a replacement for 120 W flood lights and I found this one to be more warm than other LEDs. They are bright, almost instant on (maybe a second or so delay) and I am very happy with these. I have tried many LED light bulbs in my entire house, these ones are great!

Pretty good but too large for my cans
4 Star Review   By BooBoo on Home Depot - Oct 18, 2011

I special-ordered four of these but preferred the smaller diameter Ecosmart BR30 bulb with 75W equialent, 14W consumption, 800 lumens, 2700k color. The output of the BR40 seemed equivalent to the BR30.

Very bright but somewhat spendy
4 Star Review   By TDog on Home Depot - Sep 27, 2011

This bulb is very bright and the light quality is very nice and consistent. It's great to have this much brightness without the heat of a 90 watt bulb. I can't wait for the price to come down.

Great bulb pour quality control
3 Star Review   By NixConstruction on Home Depot - Sep 27, 2011

25% of the bulbs I have bought have some quality control issue (not fully assembled, base not threaded properly, etc...). That said I keep buying them because they are the best value and best looking LED I have found; the amount of light they put out is amazing.

Finally, an LED BR40 that works!
4 Star Review   By AskThisOldMan on Home Depot - Sep 21, 2011

I bought this after a very positive experience with a similar LED - the EcoSmart BR30. I must say that this one is "almost" as impressive. My only complaint is that the light is not as warm as the BR30's (both rated 2700K). Unlike the BR30 which blends in with its surrounding incandescents, this BR40 stands out as being whiter. Here are a few facts about the bulb: 1) For the techies, it uses 18 and not 16 watts. 2) Dimension is exactly that of a normal BR40. 3) Solidly made (in China), with a no nonsense heat sink. 4) Very bright. If you are replacing a 75W incandescent, plan on adding a dimmer. 5) Dims very well. Can go all the way down to near nothing. I'm using a standard Leviton ($10) dimmer for it. An earlier experiment with a high-tech Lutron C-L dimmer totally bombed. 6) If you like switch/dimmer with a locator light, you're in luck. The locator light on my Leviton dimmer works with this LED. I heard that most LEDs do not. 7) Light is quite white, though warm enough. I would say it is halogen white. 8) It has a half second turn on delay. I took a star off because it is not 16W and that it is whiter than 2700K.

Exactly what I was looking for
5 Star Review   By LEDuser on Home Depot - Sep 6, 2011

While I have only had these lights installed for a few days, thus far they have proven to be exactly what I was looking for - a nice bright LED light (where you didn't see the individual LEDs inside the light fixture). and no "warm up" time. They generate a fraction of the heat of the incandescent bulbs I replaced and they use far less energy. The only other item I would note is that there is a brief pause - maybe a second before the lights come on.

Tons of pretty warm light and low heat
5 Star Review   By willmunny on Home Depot - Sep 3, 2011

I am glad that these lights are available again. They are true 90 watt replacements, very bright but not too cool or sterile. Many other led lights (the ones with the individual led lights visible - not like this one with an opaque cover) emit light that is too bright and cold - you'll feel like in an operation room - very unpleasant! Not these. Please note that I replaced 75/65 watt bulbs and these led lights are a little too bright compared to those but that's not the led light's fault.

Excellent lamp
5 Star Review   By CSJLighting on Home Depot - Aug 31, 2011

Using this lamp to replace lamps in recessed cans in basement. Good light quality and no heat since the ceiling height is low. Made by Lighting Science Group, great product! I am in the retrofit lighting business and am very impressed!
