Buyer BEWARE!!!
1 Star Review   By anonymous - Sep 26, 2014

I bought this mower an immediately started having issues. After 2 attempts and having to cut my grass 2 times each time I finally took it in for service (grass was left uncut. The dealer installed a baffle and new high lift blades. I cut a few more times and the first time I used mower height adjustment the adjustment cracked. The mower also bogs down with cutting any wet or slightly high grass. The mower also does not turn over on the first start with the electric start. Toro's supervisor Liz said continuing to bring the product back in for service (Which is very inconvenient due to its size and weight# is an acceptable practice. Keep in mind a 4 month old machine with now 4 items already needing to be replaced. Supervisor Liz even said even with a catastrophic failure (engine etc) they will not refund your money or replace the machine they will only repair it. For this kind of Money get a different machine. With this experience this was my first Toro and definitely my last.

Easy to use, time saver.
5 Star Review   By mass on Home Depot - Jun 18, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I typically don’t write reviews but it’s also rare that a product meets or exceeds my expectations. I was very skeptical of maintaining a quality cut with a larger mower. Some reviewers complained about its cutting ability on long or wet grass and its inability to maneuver up inclines. I’ve experienced none of these issues. My front yard does have a good slope to it and the grass was cut once when it was long and wet. Yes, you had to walk slower to maintain a good cut but this is expected of any lawn mower. There are no issues with the engine being under powered for its size. The cut isn’t quite as good as my Honda but would rate it 8.5 out of 10. The purpose of getting this lawn mower was to reduce the amount of time it takes to cut my yard. Yes, it does do this. Probably around 30-40% time saving. All my neighbors are envious and contemplating upgrading their lawnmowers to the Toro.

Toro Clog-O-Matic
2 Star Review   By ChrisP on Home Depot - Jun 17, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I have a little over 3/4 acre of mowable grass and when my riding tractor died, I wanted to replace it with something that my son could use safely. The property is a bit much for a 21" mower and not big enough to justify a decent rider. The Toro starts with one pull when cold but takes 6-7 pulls when hot (more on that later) The Personal Pace system is very intuitive and perfectly matches the machine speed to the user. Noise level is acceptable and the machine has enough power to cut the grass but will stall when the deck accumulates enough gunk. Cut quality is very good, right up until it starts dumping clots of cut grass on your lawn. I have tried bagging, mulching and side discharge and all three eventually clog. When the machine clogs, you need to tip the mower on it's side and scrape out the deck - leaving another large clot of grass on your lawn. I have tried sharpening the blades, and raising and lowering the deck all with the same result. Once you have the deck cleaned and have raked up the mess, you need to re-start with anywhere from 6-8 pulls. Repeat the routine enough and any time savings evaporate. If your grass is not too long, not too thick, and perfectly dry and you cut about every third day, the Toro Timemaster MIGHT keep from clogging. Otherwise look elsewhere.

Easy to use time saver
5 Star Review   By goofy on Home Depot - Jun 14, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

If you have a large lawn, this mower is a great alternative to a riding or commercial walk-behind mower. It is much easier to use than a commercial walk-behind. Easy to store, easy to maneuver, and easy to start (1 pull). I do not have any steep inclines, but have had no issues with bumps or tree maneuvering. The self pace system makes it all simple. Compared to a 21" push mower I have cut my mow time in half.

Mixed feelings, but pretty good so far
4 Star Review   By Mike on Home Depot - Jun 12, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Experiencing what some others are with the lack of clean cut some of the time in mulch mode. On dry grass 3 to 5" tall, I have to slow down my pace (I feel too much) for it to not miss spots. Thinking Toro maybe could have designed a better blade. My 22" john deere had a sharp edge that ran almost half the length of the blade, proportionally longer than these toro blades. The sharp area on these blades is about 3 to 3 1/2". Also, not sure if it's normal, maybe it is, but notice belt squeal for a second or two when engaging the blades. Wondering if the belts need tightened, may contact Toro. I love the wide cut, saves me 50% of the time over my old 22" mower and starts up like a champ first try every time. I use Castrol 10W-30 synthetic in it. Haven't had any gas leak problems like others have had. Maneuverability is great for a big mower and it will go as fast as you want it to. Haven't tried the bagger yet.

Great idea, but a few issues
4 Star Review   By Timesaver on Home Depot - Jun 11, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Great mower: cuts good, good suction, cuts time in half. If you have a completely flat yard- you will love it. If there is even slight hills it is a 150 lb push mower. It will not pull itself up a hill.

1 Star Review   By gerhardt on Home Depot - Jun 11, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I've owned a handful of 21" Personal Pace mowers over the last several years and love them. I thought this one would be wonderful too. And it works great....as long as you are mowing a flat lawn. The cut is terrific, the design is great in every way, especially the fold-up handle. But it just won't pull itself up even a slight hill. I made a huge mistake.

Seriously Underpowered. Lousy Customer Service
1 Star Review   By Greg on Home Depot - Jun 11, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Last year I purchased the Toro TimeMaster 30" cut path mower. For an $1,100 mower, I am extremely disappointed in its lack of power. I've written Toro Customer Service twice and all I get back are useless suggestions with no offer whatsoever to remedy the situation. I've also had to replace two of the front wheels twice. One would think for $1,100, a more powerful engine would have been used and something other than just plastic would have been used to manufacture the wheels. Seriously underpowered mower and lousy customer service. If there is anyone out there considering purchasing this mower, I would look elsewhere.

Very Good Cut, Fast
4 Star Review   By NETI on Home Depot - Jun 9, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I just used my new Toro Timemaster for the 1st time and I'm loving it. I had a 33inch walk behind mower that I liked for its speed, but was frustrated by its poor mulching capability. It takes me 1 hour to mow my 1/3 acre with a 21" mower, took me 40 minutes with the 33", and took me 35 min with the 30" Timemaster. The Toro is faster because of the personal pace system, it also takes less time than the 33" to go around the swingset, trees, etc because it is lighter and can be pulled back with one hand. The mulching on this Toro is very good, way better than my 33" and almost as good as my neighbors 21" "H" mulching mower that I've used the past few weeks. The only thing it could use is caster front wheels to make mowing around beds easier.

Time saving cadillac of mowers
4 Star Review   By bobby on Home Depot - Jun 8, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

On my 1st mower the self propel died so I exchanged it and have had no issues. Starts on the first pull. I thought it was 9 hp but that is a foot pound rating. I think it is actually 6 hp. Blade clutch very handy. The thing is weighted in such a way it is very easy to maneuver. The intuitive self propel feature is very cool. You can go as fast or slow or stop as you desire. Very decent mulching results. Doesn't take up a lot of space in the garage. I can't believe I spent so much money but mowing is way less of a chore.

It's a good mower if I can get one that works. I've gone thru 4 of them so far in 5 weeks, 1st, drive stop working after 2nd cut, 2nd had a bent rear wheel out of the box, 3rd, motor shuts down in cutting mode and now on my 4th one gas is leaking from bottom of carb and running bad for 1st 15 sec's. I am going to return it tonight, but not sure what to do buy another or back to 21" .

Good for What it is.
3 Star Review   By kkingcqe on Home Depot - Jun 4, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I will be the first to agree that this mower is overpriced. Nothing particularly rugged about it, the engine is small if you want to mow grass that has not been cut in a week or more. The cleanout port that you connect to a garden hose is useless, but they have always been useless, leaving soggy wet grass stuck on the mower after rinsing for 5 minutes. But let me tell you about some work-arounds. 1) the factory paint is as durable as whitewash. After a year my deck was getting rusty and paint was coming off in sheets. I cleaned it all off, primed, and painted with appliance epoxy. 2) Hose it off after every use by turning on its side and using a garden hose. 3) spray the underside with cooking spray before the next use. This works great and I didn't have a single clog in over an hour use. No, you should not have to do this. But since you already bought the mower, these small things make a big difference in the experience. Yes I recommend this mower, but with a whole pile of "well, if you can put up with"s. There really is nothing else quite like it on the market

1 Star Review   By HappyHondaCustower on Home Depot - Jun 2, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I bought a Toro GTS back in 1985, by far the best mower I have ever owned. With a big yard and wanting to mulch, it was a no brainer for me to by a new 30" Time Master. I received it on 5/28. Assembly was very easy and after adding oil and gas, it started on the 1st pull. I mowed my lawn that day,no problem. On 5/31 I mowed again, while I was mowing the motor stopped running. It would not restart after 6-8 pulls. I checked the fuel level 1/3 full. Oil checked full. I read the operators manual 2 more times. After 15 minutes I tried to restart, no start. The owners manual offers no troubleshooting tips. I called Toro's customer support number, and all you get is a recording telling you Toro offers no phone assistance or troubleshooting, and to take it to a dealer, press 1 for dealer locations. I did. I then took the mower to that dealer location. After explaining what happen, I was told by that dealer " Toro is very slow to pay warrenty claims. If you want to leave it we MIGHT look at it in 3-4 weeks". I went on-line Toro's customer service is no better on-line than the phone support " expect a reply in 48 hours. I went to my local Home Depot and explained my experiance, they offered to reorder the product or I could return it. I went home and thought about it for 5 minutes. Toro's POOR customer support made the decision easy. I returned the Toro and purchased a Honda. Thank you Home Depot for standing behind the products you sell and taking care of your customers.

Have only used this mower a few times but it truly is a "Timesaver". My previous mowing would take one hour. The past few times with the new Toro is a half hour. My old Honda (21") is a great mower but you can beat the deck size, bag capacity and the ability to keep the engine running and drop the clippings. Very nice even cut...I'm a bit on the fence going to a made in Mexico Briggs and Stratton over the Honda but I do take care of my power equipment...hope it continues to operate like this...but it does have a three year warranty as well. Very pleased.

Take time before you submit a review. Beware of drive unit and engine stalling.
1 Star Review   By jc404 on Home Depot - May 30, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I made the mistake of giving a glowing review of this product with only several uses under my belt. The day after I submitted my initial review (jc403) the mower self propel system gave up the ghost. I inspected the drive belt under the front cover and found mounds of belt shavings and a frayed drive belt. Home Depot was great and supplied me with a new mower on exchange. Brought that unit home and the engine stalled after 5 minutes of use. Wouldn't restart until cooled. Tried twice more and engine again stalled with same results. I attribute it to a faulty auto choke feature (I do have a mechanical background). The fuel is fresh w/o additives from Shell and has worked fine in my other outdoor power equipment. On third attempt to finish my yard the self propel system failed....AGAIN. Reluctantly I brought unit back for a refund. It's too bad as I really loved the design, cut quality (while it ran) and concept. Poor Quality Control has likely turned me away as a TORO customer until they get their act together at theToluca Mexico plant. I'll likely wait another year. For those interested my two units were assembled in April '13. Back to my old SNAPPER. 22 years with thousands of hours and still runs better than a 2013 TORO. Please build a 30" walk behind SNAPPER.

A huge time saver
5 Star Review   By ifd1 on Home Depot - May 27, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This has been a perfect mower for my yard which is 1/2 acre with few obstructions. It used to take me about an hour and 10 minutes with a 21" non-self-propelled Craftsman. After a rainy spring and being forced to mow twice a week I started looking for other options. I had seen this mower over the winter and did a little research. I thought it was worth a shot. I mowed for the first time a couple of weeks ago and could not believe how much time I saved from my cut time. I was finished in 35 minutes including trimming. This thing will go as fast or as slow as you do and is easy to turn and pull back in tight spots. My neighbors look at me in envy as I blaze through my yard with this monster. I have never written a product review in my life but this thing has impressed me to no end. I actually look forward to cutting the grass now.

A whole new way to mow!
5 Star Review   By jc404 on Home Depot - May 23, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

First of all this mower had some big shoes to fill. My 21" Snapper has been flawless for 22 years. If it wasn't for the innovative design and a desire to save time on my 1/3 acre lot I would never have purchased. That being said the mower setup was straight forward. What wonderful features from the flip handle to bag, to cut level adjustors, to side discharge conversion. Started first pull first time and every time since. The Briggs engine has plenty of power and is quiet. Obviously in mulch mode avoid wet grass. Top tip spray WD40 under the deck prior to mowing. Maintain the proper pace for grass length and you can't even see a clipping let alone a clump. Wash out feature is not useless. Use it to soften and remove most of the accumulated clippings from deck. Then tilt back and hose out remainder. Do this each time..it takes 3 minutes but you save dozens. The personal pace is FANTASTIC. Even with the size it is easier to maneuver than my Snapper which has a rear differential. The wheels provide good traction and being rear wheel drive is a must as my home has several inclines. The deck is wider than the wheel track so you can cut borders effectively. The unit has a wide range of adjustment for height so if the grass gets too long raise it up and re-cut lower a day or two later. I cut at the middle setting (C) without any issue. The quality and uniformity of cut is impressive. I haven't tried to bag with the unit yet as I would probably use my Hi-Vac Snapper. So far I'm very impressed with my first Toro. I just wish it was assembled in USA (Mexico). At least the Briggs is.

I have an acre and a quarter of which I mow about three quarters of an acre. I am 81 years old but did not want to get a riding mower. While a enjoy the exercise I am not foolish enough to want to over do it. When my 22" unit gave out I looked for a larger self propelled. I read the reviews and settled on this one. I am not disappointed, while it is heavy it is easy to handle. I like the blade disengagement feature, the variable speed, and the width of cut. The power wash feature could be improved but I don't know how. This is a small matter and does not detract from the overall quality of this unit. As some of the other reviews have stated, it has reduced my cutting time by half. I would be remiss if I did not mention the ease of height adjustment and the direct rear wheel drive.

Bad Design - not easy to use when sef propelled quits while mowing
1 Star Review   By mrchips on Home Depot - May 21, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

The Toro 30" lawn mower is a very poorly designed machine having many plastic parts that break and fall apart when mowing the grass. We only mowed two times with this machine and both times parts fell off and into our grass from the pulley and self propel. We have a large flat yard and the self propel quit both times leaving us to push mow 3 city lots worth of grass both times! Thank you Home Depot for making good on your exchange policy. We were able to replace the mower with a Honda and have had no problems since then. Great Store and Great Customer service in College Place, Washington.

Don't like the personal pace system
4 Star Review   By tbrook22 on Home Depot - May 18, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

After mowing my 2 acre yard w/hills twice now, I am pleased with this mowers overall performance, and it cuts my mowing time in half. My only complaint is the personal pace system, I find it difficult to use especially going up hills, even on flat terrain the pace system makes the mower lurch ahead all the time. The assist bar is too small and narrow, and you have to hold your hands close together on the bar while going up hills, and it is very tiring. If this mower had a regular speed lever it would be much easier to use. Maybe I'll get used to it over time, but right now I'm not crazy about it.

Could be great but two samples were DOA. Thank god for returns
1 Star Review   By Jeff on Home Depot - May 15, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Home Depot Downingtown PA has a great bunch of local people who are the best, but Toro hosed them with some lousy expensive mowers. I just returned the SECOND of these 30 inch mowers in 4 days. The first would run until it got load from cutting. I believe the auto choke on the Briggs 190 cc was bad. The second never started. White smoke from carb; backfiring; clearly the valve timing or flywheel orientation was bad out of the crate. Yes gas was brand new and of course I checked spark and all the usuals for a small engine. These toros made for HD had horrible quality control for the first I bought and the second I accepted. The staff were great and apologized for making me take 3 trips to get a working mower ( I gave up on a 10000 dollar wide mower and got the high end Honda after the second failed toro). Take your own chances. Look for this style mower with a Honda engine someday.

I would think long and hard about this product!
2 Star Review   By Mike2229 on Home Depot - May 15, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

It took all of 19 days for me to take it back. The recoil start out of the box had some slack and I didn't think that was a good sign. 18 days later I pulled the starter and the rope came right out. Put the rope back in and it wouldnt recoil. The inner spring had broke that fast. We have had alot of growth here in pennsylvania this spring and I had hosed off my 1000 dollar investment after each cutting. Actually used this 6 times in 3 weeks. The deck had already begin to rust even being garaged kept. I really liked the 30 inch cut and speed was great. It didn't mulch very well always tons of grass on the wheels and underneath. It bagged great. Its very heavy if your wondering. The manager at home depot was SUPER helpful and gave me a rapid refund with no questions asked. I read the reviews before purchasing and was on the fence about the purchase. Might be a great late season purchase when the grass is thin and its not working so hard. Best of luck if you take the leap. I would not recommend at this price.

I am very happy with this purchase. I replaced my Toro 22 inch with this 30 inch. Cuts mowing my lawn time almost in half. I really like the feature that keeps the engine running without the blades engaged when you need to stop and pick something up or you can maneuver the mower without the blades engaged with the self-propelled system. The twin blades cut very evenly. I definately recommend this mower!

3 Star Review   By Butch on Home Depot - May 14, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

The self-propelled feature of this mower is not strong enough to pull inclines greater than slight and is certainly to heavy to push up hills. Would no recommend for a yard with anything more than slight inclines.

5 Star Review   By freewheel on Home Depot - May 14, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This is a good mower because it starts really easy, usually first pull. It will go as fast or as slow as you are in the mood to go.Unique feature allows you to run behind it if your in that much of a hurry or move like a turtle if you like. It has a wide cut but it is not a heavy beast, you dont have to be a bodybuilder to use it. I do think they could have made it a bit wider still and would be a better value a couple hundred dollars less. Recommended still.

5 Star Review   By jm13 on Home Depot - May 13, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I have used the traditional 21 " cut mower for years. I saw this online so decided to give this one a try. What a differenece in mowing times. this mower is great , i have mowed lawns from a half acre to one acre in no time. very easy to handle , works well in tall grass. Fits thru backyard gates where ride on mowers and zero turn mowers cannot. The only thing i suggest toro does is make the rear wheels a little bigger for better grip and sharpen the blades. but overall Well worth the money spent.

Good unit, but pricey for what you get
4 Star Review   By mowingman on Home Depot - May 12, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I like this unit, but when you can purchase the same size rider for the same amount, something seems a little off. Here are my pros/cons: Pros: 1. cuts grass really fine, so you can bag more 2. Easy storage by placing the hand in upright to place it in a corner/against wall 3. can disengage blade to empty bag without killing motor 4. personal pace is great and will really move. At full speed, you'll be doing a slow jog 5. Starts really easy. Barely pull, and it is on. cons: 1. Needs a posi-trac on the rear-end. When one rear wheel comes off the ground, the unit will not go i.e. once one wheel comes off the ground, it spins and the other will not move it. My old lawnboy used to move great and you could tip it on its side and it would keep going, this unit will not. 2. Heavy - this unit is heavy and if you are not ready to wrestle it a bit on slopes, then don't get it. 3. Washout port - I read another review that this was a Joke. I totally agree. I hooked it up, turned on the water, started the engine and engaged the blades. Ran for a minute. Tipped up and nothing was washed out. So, you will be tipping it up and washing out the old fashioned way. Overall, I am keeping this unit because it does save me time on my lawn, but feel it is over priced for just being a little larger than the same unit at $500. I suspect they will bring this down in cost.

Good Idea but Engine has Issues
3 Star Review   By Jeff on Home Depot - May 12, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

When it runs it works great. I have had on in Southeast PA for 3 days and used it on dry and wet grass. The underpowered engine requires you to carefully engage the blades over several seconds or it will stall. Engine hot restarts are a problem. The carb settings coupled with the auto choke cause mixture issues and stalling when hot. I made some adjustments to the choke link from the temperature sensor and got it to stay running.. The choke plate was open too FAR when hot which indicates it is lean if it needs hot partial choke. In their effort to make a convenience they screwed it up and should have left a manual choke and mixture adjust. I can make anything run but people who spend a grand in a mower should not have to and I suspect a lot of these come back to HD if the customer is not comfortable troubleshooting engines

This mower has potential but broke after the second use.
2 Star Review   By TomV on Home Depot - May 6, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

The Timemaster has a lot of potential; obviously saves time cutting; cuts nicely; easy to start and stores with a minimum footprint. However, the traction assist never seemed to work correctly (only the right rear wheel assisted) and then broke altogether making the mower unmanageable on any slope. I'm currently trying to transport to the authorized dealer for assessment and repaired after two uses. If repaired vice returned, I'll be able to give a much better review at the end of the summer.

Fantastic Machine
5 Star Review   By MichaelR on Home Depot - Apr 29, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I purchased this mower to handle some of my mid sized residential lawns. Now, I find myself using it every chance I get. First, it was insanely easy to set up out of the box. Took a grand total of 10 minutes from taking it out the truck to first start. Started on the first pull first time and has ever since. I live in Illinois which has had a very wet start to the season so far. Every lawn I have used this on has been wet, and I have had absolutely no problems with bogging down at all. It has never stalled, and have tackled wet grass up to 9 inches tall. In mulch mode, the cuttings are very fine. In bagger mode it leaves nothing behind. In discharge mode it works perfectly. The ticket to keeping this machine working at the optimum is to clean it regularly. The wash port makes this very easy. Honestly folks, 1 minute to keep your equipment clean and operating like new, not too bad a deal. For those that complain of it bogging in heavy and wet grass: You should never mow more than 1/3 of the length of the grass at a time. Stop trying to mow 6 inches at a time in wet grass. I wouldn't even do that with my heavier and commercial grade equipment.

Awesome
5 Star Review   By DJ11 on Home Depot - Apr 27, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I've been looking at this mower for the last year and finally pulled the trigger and picked one up today. You can't even compare this to my 22" Toro. The 30" Timemaster is like mowing your lawn with a go-kart. Yeah you're walking behind but the pace is so fast (should you choose a fast pace) it feels like no other lawn mower I've ever used before. I can't believe the other mfg. haven't made a mower for this class. In any event if you have the 1K to spend on a mower for a yard that is beeter suited for a push mower this is the one. You won't regret it.

2 Star Review   By Savf on Home Depot - Apr 24, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I bought this mower today, returned it 4 hours later. It is an excellent machine on level ground but it will not work on any type of medium slope. On flat ground this unit is great, fast cut, nice striping, easy to use. But once I started cutting my hill the machine just could not handle it. The personal pace would not go, the mower stalled several times and would not start fo several minutes. Forget trying to cut on a side hill, it won't hold, and it is too heavy to try and muscle. I agree with all the reviews but only on level ground or a very slight grade. My local store was great when I returned it.

4 Star Review   By Mike on Home Depot - Apr 23, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

The first mower I purchased turned out to be a lemon. Took it home, filled it with oil and gas and it wouldn't start. Thankfully, I purchased it at my local HD and they exchanged it for a brand new one without any hassle. All that aside, this is simply the best consumer grade mower I have ever used. The personal pace can have you going at a light jog if you let it. I cut through tall, slightly damp fescue grass without any clogging issues (side chute attached) and the blades never got bogged down. Started mowing my (larger) lawn after my neighbor started and finished before him. I now look forward to mowing on the weekends!

Bought this the past weekend and mowed my grass with it. I bagged it first, and no problems bagging it. It was a bit wet, and it cut fine. I did adjust to a high setting too though. for the mulch part, it seems fine. the only thing i could change is the top of the handle. the personal pace thing gets some getting used to, and its a bit awkward to handle turning on a hill. once i get the hang of it, im sure it will be fine. cut my mowing time down significantly. is a bit pricy, but im happy so far

UNDERPOWERED!!!
2 Star Review   By dissappointingTORO on Home Depot - Apr 16, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I was so hopeful and excited when I purchased this mower, as I have a yard that is too large for a 21" mower but not quite big enough to buy a big rider. I cut the grass twice with this mower and it was a disaster. The first time the grass was a little wet and the second time it was bone dry. Both times, the mower constantly got choked down in the grass, which wasn't that tall. I tried it on the following cutting heights: E, D, and C. C was the only reliable cutting height, but I don't want my grass to look like it needs to be cut when I'm done cutting it. This is a great idea that simply wasn't given enough engine power to make it work. Took it back to the store.

Love this mower!
5 Star Review   By JoeVA on Home Depot - Apr 15, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Saw this as a refurb special at Home Depot for $699 last fall. Asked the salesman what the deal was with it. He said an old man used it once and brought it back saying it was too much mower for him. His loss is my gain. It was basically brand new still. The mower handles so well for it's size. Even my wife had no problem maneuvering it around the yard when she tried it. The rear wheel drive is so much better than the front wheel drive mowers I've always had. I bag my lawn and it's worked great, but I can't comment on the mulching aspects. Wheels adjust easy and the handle folds up quickly for storage. It also knocked a half hour off my mowing time on a half acre coming from a 22" deck. Really happy with this product.

My lawn trembles in fear...
5 Star Review   By iatros on Home Depot - Apr 3, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Like many others have mentioned, I researched extensively and kept coming back to this model. I can honestly say Ive never giggled while mowing the lawn; this thing tears through the grass like its ticked off! Ive mowed lawns my whole life (initially for money, now because Im too cheap to pay for someone else to do it), and this is the type of mower that I used to dream about....One that will self-propel so fast that I have to nearly jog to keep up with it!! My prayers have been answered! The self-propel system is very intuitive and slows down when you want it too. If you want to jog while mowing the lawn (which I do), then this is the beast for you. note though, you dont have to go that fast if you dont want. It is large and heavy, but thats why it will crush your feeble lawn into submission. If youre on the fence, I cant imagine how someone would be disappointed with this thing. Worth every penny.

Great idea and design
5 Star Review   By dareo on Home Depot - Apr 2, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

After reading about the Timemaster for a year, i finally bought one. It took only a 5 minutes to setup and start mowing. It started in one light pull and sounds awesome with the twin blades. Being able to start the engine without engaging the blades makes this incredibly easy to pull start. I set it up to bag to clean up some leaves. There is not a lot of bagging vacuum/lift. It still did the job but the deck and included blades are clearly designed to mulch. Less lift when bagging can be good as it will leave the smallest clippings to nourish your lawn and fill the bag up less often. To those that complain the engine is so weak that it "almost dies" when you engage the blades: This engine automatically adjusts the throttle to the load required saving you gas and wear on the engine. This mower will move fast and cut a lot of area quickly. Its only real drawback is that it does not have a lot of horsepower. You can't ask it to mow tall wet lawns. If you mow once a week in dry grass its plenty powerful. If you have a lot of steep hills to go up you might want to get the commercial model as it has a beefier transmission and drive system. For flatter lots this model is just fine, weighs less, and costs a lot less. Thank you Home Depot for great service and the military discount!

First Pull (A year later)
5 Star Review   By Pell on Home Depot - Mar 16, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

A year ago I decided to get a new mower. I did a lot of research and decided to buy me a Husqyvarnished mower.....big mistake! I brought it back after its first use. After further research I came across the TORO TimeMaster. It was a bit on the pricey side but the performance ratings were awesome so I decided to give it a shot. When I finally got it home and used it for the first time, I was amazed. I let my brother cut part of my yard, my dad cut another part, and my grandfather cut another part (I was bragging!). Anyway, it was by far the best push mower I have ever used. Its heavy but it pulls itself well and maneuvers just as easy as any quality lighter weight mower. The power of the engine in tall wet grass is pretty devastating.......it had no problem at all and didnt bog down once. I used it weekly on my 1/4 acre size lot and get alot of compliments about my "carpet" looking grass. Now, I will say, I am very picky about my yard and my yard equipment. I check the oil before every start and completely wash and hand dry it after every use, then again, it did cost me over a "G". Gotta treat it like a car! That was a year ago! Yesterday I pulled it out, she's clean as a whistle still, checked my oil.....it was still good. First pull, VROOOOOOOOOM! Fired right up! I can go on and on about how good this mower is. I can difenitely see it lasting a lifetime. I brought her down to the local TORO dealer for a tune-up, where they will change the oil, sharpen the blades, replace the air filter, and throw a new spark plug in her. I will do this every year just to keep her running like a top. Everything needs maintenance. Highly recommended. By the way, I live in Southeast Texas, flat land, st. augustine grass, and I dont bag, I mulch only.

4 Star Review   By JohnK on Home Depot - Dec 18, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I was very surprised by the lack of controls, you don't need to do anything but start it, no choke, no speed control, it does everything. The only negative thing I can say is the blade clutch lever does not seem to be very substantial, it works but sometimes I worry how it will hold up. I have been using it in the bagging mode, mostly bagging leaves. I also have a riding mower, but there are times when my back yard holds water, and I get the riding mower stuck. This should keep me from doing that, it sometimes takes a long time to get the riding mower out of the mud.

Suburbanite's dream mower
5 Star Review   By RegularGuyRob on Home Depot - Nov 21, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I have one of those yards that's just a little too big. I had been looking for a time saver solution for over a year. I thought the solution was a riding mower so I bought a small 30" John Deere rider. Due to my landscaping and odd shaped yard there was zero time savings, the yard looked like horrible because I had overlap and the tires matted the grass. Needless to say I took my lumps, traded in my month old rider and bought the "Beast". I fricken love this thing. Seriously, winter is starting and I miss her already. They named this thing right, you will save time, it's easy to use, cuts even, and the striping in the yard is beautiful. I could go on and on but simply put; stop searching, I know what you're going through trying to decide on a rider or this machine. If you have a large to mid-size yard with landscaping and are a stickler on your yard striping and neatness...buy this bad boy. Regular Guy Rob

6 month review - Transmission cracked
1 Star Review   By Eric on Home Depot - Nov 15, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

After all the other problems I had during the summer with this machine the latest one is the worst. Just before the start of fall clean up I see fluid under the mower in my garage. I thought it was leaking oil again but it smelt like gear oil. Brought it to a local dealer/shop to get looked at and they tell me the transmission is cracked and needs a replacement. I used this machine under 30 times this past summer on a 0.70 acre yard that is mostly flat, (just one hill on the side of my lot). I'm done with this thing I'm going to sell it. One positive note. Toro provided no problems with replacing the transmission and there call center support was very good. Home Depot also was great with returning the first two defective units.

5 Star Review   By justme on Home Depot - Nov 7, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I have a half acre to mow. Previously, I used a corded electric and a battery electric. Because of the 30 inch cutting width and the "personal pace" feature, I reduced my mowing time by at least 50%...maybe more. It isn't quiet, but isn't as noisy as I expected it to be. I was used to the emission-free electrics, so I don't enjoy the exhaust fumes. However, I can do the job so much faster and it doesn't even feel like work, so it is well worth it. So far I am very happy with this mower.

Toro Timemaster
5 Star Review   By fishfan on Home Depot - Oct 22, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Solid construction with plenty of power to cut thick grass. Multching works better than i expected and the bagging feature is simple and easy to manover. The blade clutch is probably one of the best features on the mower. This comes in handy when empting the bag and saves you the hassle of having to start and stop the mower. Grass cutting height adjustment levers are easy to work and allows you plenty of height cutting options. Handle adjustments are very easy to operate and doesn't take up much space in the garage. Super pleased with this purchase and I must say I think alot of my neighbors are a little jealous. This is definetly the "Cats Meow" of lawn mowers. looking for more grass to mow!

Love this machine
5 Star Review   By philip on Home Depot - Oct 17, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Love this machine. I have been using the Toro 22" personal pace mower for 13 years and cutting twice a week in the growing season. As I have inground irrgation means all summer months March to Oct/November. I was happy with the original but it was getting tired & wearing out. I bought the 30" and can cut my yard and my neighbors in the same time as it took to cut my own. I have slopes in my yard and it handles them with no problem. Stores well with having the handle vertical. Starts great with one pull. The only negative that I have is the price at $999.00. Overall I am very happy with the mower.

This Toro can handle tough jobs
4 Star Review   By plicata on Home Depot - Oct 2, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I purchased this lawnmower as my St. Augustine grass was too thick for my previous mower to handle. Let me tell you this mower is strong, quiet and can take care of my lawn which is 1/2 acre. This mower is heavy but has more than enough power to pull it's weight and my 210 pounds too! Would definitely recommend this mower!

Good power
4 Star Review   By ZZZZZZZZZ59 on Home Depot - Sep 30, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Used this mower twice, and has good power. The personal pace feature is great once you get used to it. Two issues: Minor - the blades are great on most grasses, but not on bahia. I've been doing lawn work for over 40 years, so if you are mowing bahia, replace the mulch blades with standard blades. Make sure these are sharp!. Major - the rear wheel lift is cheaply made. When I went to pull the handle out to raise the rear wheels, it bent and the metal cracked at the bend. Glad I had a pry bar in my truck. I now use it to raise and lower the rear cutting height. As I live in Florida and will be mowing the grass well into October, I don't have time to send the mower back to have the handle replaced. Because of this last issue, I would value the mower at $600.00, not $1000.00.

The product was underpowered and could not cut 1/2 acre without stalling. Very disappointed in this product and returned it. My old 21" mower completed every job this one couldn't.

It's way quicker to mow my 7000 square foot lawn now, and like another reviewer, I'm 57 yrs. old and the old riding mower adds to my lower back stiffness. (there's nothing better for the back than walking) I bought the Toro Recycler 15 plus years ago and it's still running good so that inspired me to check out and buy the Timemaster, I've used it twice and it's my new best friend. I've never owned a bagger type mower, I absolutely love adding to my compost pile, and no grass clippings all over my dog and me. It manuevers well, there's banks and hills to mow out there, the pull start is easy and I'm a little woman.

I've use this mower twice so far I love it..the first thing I did when I got it was install a fuel shut off,I read about the carb leaking fuel I didn't want to deal with that..I just sold a 32" commerical toro t handle mower that worked great just over kill for me..the grass catcher weighted a ton when full like 40lbs not fun..I had a ariens 34" zero turn not enough power ripped up the lawn to heavy..and several more mowers..this is the first mower that I can mow my whole yard with one mower,I don't have to use my 21" to mow close to the fence..any way I read and read about this mower good and bad..I'm very happy with it cuts great using it is a piece of cake.feels no bigger than my 21"..I would buy another one.try it you will love it thank you toro..

Great Mower
5 Star Review   By Bear02 on Home Depot - Sep 15, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I purchased this mower to replace a 3 year old Troy-Bilt push mower. My old mower is still working, I just wanted something to make the job a little easier. My lot is not flat so it made for a lot of work with my old mower. The Toro Timemaster reduced my mowing time by over 50%. I have also been very pleased with the quality of the cut while mulching. I have cut my lawn while it was wet and not had any problems with the mower bogging down or leaving clumps of grass behind. It is very manueverable for its size as well. I am also a big fan of the Briggs & Stratton engines. My only two complaints so far are the paint on the welds on the bottom side of the cutting and the wash out ports ability to clean the cutting deck. The welds were not painted very well so I was a little concerned about them rusting out with time. I touched up the weld spots myself to prevent rust in the future. As for the wash out port, I recommend spraying it off with a hose. My two complaints are minor and would not stop me from buying this mower again. It has performed flawlessly and done everything I have asked for it to do. I would strongly recommend this mower to anyone looking for a good walk behind mower.

Toro Timemaster disappointment
2 Star Review   By Redman618 on Home Depot - Sep 13, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

First and foremost let me begin that I so wanted to desperately wanted to love this machine. I live in Houston, Texas with a fast growing grass. I purchased this machine with a 3/4 acre lot for my home, thinking that this was going to cut my cutting time in half. If anything it has doubled my cutting time. The machine constantly gets jammed/bogged down. I initially used it for the first time in the morning, while there was still some dew left on the grass. I could not go 10 feet forward without the machine cutting off due to not shooting out the clippings. So then I went to side discharge, and that was just as bad to the fact that the the side discharge plastic cover went on so flimsy that any, and I mean ANY, little tap to the cover would cause it to pop off. Even with the side discharge on the machine still kept getting bogged down. Then I thought let me mulch, that was worst, I was not even able to go five feet forward without the machine cutting off. My wife then pointed out that maybe the grass was too high, So i raised the wheels to the highest settings. It helped me go fifteen feet before the machine would shut down. So then my wife said I should wait till the dew dries. I came back that afternoon while the sun was drying it all day. Still all disappointments. One thing I will say is that it was very nimble for being so wide and heavy. I did appreciate the the blade shut off system, which the mower that I ended up with now has. Also a last how do ya do is that the mower that I had was starting to leak fuel from the carburetor that everyone else said they were having.

Great mower / Saves time
5 Star Review   By Mike on Home Depot - Sep 4, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

After reading favorable reviews, I purchased in the beginning of the mowing season after my 13 year old 21" mower (Sears) quit working. Since none of the local HD's in my area had it, I was forced to a HD store about 60 minutes away that had two in stock. I grabbed one of them! SO HAPPY I did. This thing is awesome! Lawn mowing on a 125x150 lot went from approx 2 hours to about an hour. Now, it is a beast to be sure, and is generally great for long direct lines of cutting. If you have a small lawn with frequent turns, this isn't the mower for you.

Superb mower!
5 Star Review   By Gryphon on Home Depot - Aug 25, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Replaces a 21" Toro SuperMulcher (2009) that's still a great machine, but this 30 TimeMaster MOWS NOW! Only hiccup was the learning curve of having to use a higher blade setting; here's the story/tip: On the 21" Toro I had it set for 2.75" and would typical get 2 trash bags in the backyard/week. On the Toro 30" I set it for 3" blade height (per owners manual) and ended up with 5 bags first try. Take-away is that the Toro 30" is heavier than a 21" and "settles" deeper in the grass (St. Augustine in my case) so you need to use a higher setting initially to find the sweet spot. It is still easy to maneuver and hits almost all the spots I could get to with the Toro 21" so there's not much change there. In short, I LOVE IT!

this is my first toro product, i didn't buy this for the brand,,,when searching lawnmowers i look at the engine, and briggs&stratton engines are the way to go for lawnmowers...the 30" deck is the perfect hybrid between a reg lawnmower and commercial walk behind for large residential yards with terrain...this thing is powerfull and nicely balanced...it didn't cut my time down by 40% because i was moving slow getting used to it...next time i use it i'm sure i will fly through my yard...other lawnmower companies need to step their game up and on this 30" size...highly recommend this lawnmower...

THIS IS ONE FANTASTIC MOWER
5 Star Review   By DAKOTA on Home Depot - Aug 13, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I have been cutting my rather large yard for years and have owned numerous brands of mowers. My last mower was a 22" Personal Pace Toro and it provided me with many years of problem free service, the only problem was that it would take way too long to do the whole yard because of it's size (22"). I decided to go looking for a mower with a larger cutting area so I went on the Home Depot site and researched the reviews on wider cut mowers. I choose the Toro Timemaster 30" mower because of the positive reviews and the fact that when I went to Home Depot to check it out the mower looked and felt like it was constructed with quality materials, like rubber wheels, steel deck, powerful engine, and double blades. I can tell you that I am extremely happy with my decision, this is one fantastic grass cutting machine. It started on the very first pull and cuts my yard in almost half the time as my old mower. The double blades cut the grass in a much finer cut and I don't have any thick clumps of grass sitting on top of my yard when I'm through. I am currently using the side discharge attachment but will switch to mulching when the grass stops growing like it is now. The mower is quiet, powerful, and easy to control. The blade disengage feature it nice because you can still move the mower around with the Personal Pace working but the blades stopped. I know it's not of commercial grade but I see this mower providing me with many many years of trouble free service. The time I will save by using this mower is worth every cent I paid for it, I just wish I had it years ago. If you are looking for a mower that will definitely save you time this is the way to go.

It's about time, a decent sized mower for the homeowner
5 Star Review   By Rehartline on Home Depot - Jul 21, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I wonder why it took so long to figure this out. A mower with a decent cutting width for the homeowner. I'm in Florida with a very established St. Augustine lawn. I don't have a large lawn, but this things saves me so much time. Plenty of power, the wider tires roll through the lawn with ease. Good clean cut and surprisingly not as loud as my 21" John Deere that it replaced. Note that this is not a commercial machine, so if you you read a landscaper bashing it, it"s he tried to be cheap. Glad I got it.

I have a half acre yard and cutting time went from 90 minutes to 50 minutes. I mulch and the new mower does a much better job compared to my older 22" Toro. After Honda, Toro 22", brand X, Murray Rider and Gravely this is the best mower for my lot ever. You will weed wack a little more; not much.

The mower is smooth running and the variable speed works with you seemlessly, I like that it is easy to adjust the cutting height (two adjusters) and you can have the engine run and disengage the blades if you have to remove objects from your path. This mower does a great job on our acre of land.

Expensive, but a real nice time saving lawn mower for home use.
4 Star Review   By GM300hp on Home Depot - Jul 8, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Bought the Toro 30inch Timemaster at HomeDepot online in early June 2012. It took nearly two weeks for it to arrive, but yes, delivery was free. Set up was easy and quick out of the box with no tools required unless you count the box cutter to tear down the shipping box for recycling. I believe the mower is over priced a couple hundred dollars, but with that being said it is a quality machine and it does have a 3 year warranty. The center of the wheels are plastic, but the wheel tread itself is rubber. The deck is solid and heavy duty much like the mowing deck on my garden tractor. It does not flex at all when it bumps up against a tree or the edge of the sidewalk like my old mower did. The engine starts easily with minimal effort on the pull cord. I have about 35,000sq feet of lawn with some extreme slopes at my house. It took me about 3 hours to mow the lawn with my ten year old 21inch cut push mower. With the Toro 30inch Timemaster it now takes me about 1.5 hours to cut the grass. I have used the mower exclusively in mulch mode. The engine has plenty of power and rarely does grass clump up behind the mower. The Toro cuts the grass evenly and makes the mow pattern on the lawn look great. I have used the mower 4 times now and cleaned the deck with the water washout as described in the manual. When I changed the oil after the 5 hour mark and had the mower on its side, there was quite a lot of grass build up under the deck. It does not appear the washout works all that well. Also, the first time I used the mower my thumbs/hands got a little cut up from the injection molding burrs on the plastic handle for the personal pace self-propel system. Solved that by filing off the burrs and placing some duct tape over the area to smooth it over. I also used some foam pipe insulation to cover the bolts/nuts that stick out on the handle for the blue extreme slope help push bar. One feature my ten year old mower had that should be on the Toro is a one handle height adjustment. Despite my minor ergonomic complaints, the Toro is a great heavy duty quality lawn mower. I look forward to many years of use and would highly recommend the Toro 30 inch cut to anyone who has a large area to mow and is looking to save time while still having a great looking yard.

Strong mower for large lawn residential use or very light-duty commercial use
4 Star Review   Home Depot    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

As a life-long Toro advocate and past owner of a medium-sized commercial lawn service (200 yards per week), I read hundreds of reviews of this mower on various websites before finally purchasing at my local Home Depot. I am not a paid reviewer for Toro or Home Depot. Before discussing the mower attributes, let me remind everyone that you have 30 days to "trial" this mower and can return it to Home Depot if it falls short. (this is the main reason I purchased from Home Depot instead of a little dealer) Furthermore, a 3 year engine start and overall warranty is nothing to sniff at. (I think it would have been 5 years if Toro was not worried about some commercial operators beating the snot out of it - even though it is not marketed for full-on commercial use) Ok - now for the review of the mower, as it relates to some of the complaints that I saw posted by others. POWER - I would say that it may be slightly under-powered overall, but it has enough to get the job done. Some have said that when they engage the blades that the engine really bogs down before returning to working rpms. That is correct, but so do extremely powerful engines on commercial Toro 32, 36 and larger walk-behinds that I have used in the past. GROUND SPEED - There is more than adequate ground speed generated by this mower. That said, if someone is at a dead stop and faced with a very steep hill ahead of them, it may not be up to snuff. The way to think about the use of this machine on hills is like driving a car with turbo-lag. What I mean is that it is best to plan for the hill and kick it into speed before you meet the hill as it takes just a moment for the transmission to really spool up and take off when you really want some juice. FUEL LEAK - I have not personally experienced or had any of my 5 local private dealers and 2 Home Depot's report experiencing a fuel leak. I will be the first to report if I see otherwsie. FAULTY ENGINE SHUT OFF SWITCH - Some have said that their shut off switch does not work. While I am sure that this is a likely problem with some, I think I have figured out the problem for others. When depressing the off switch, you need to hold it down until the engine comes to a complete stop. Letting up on the switch any sooner and the engine will roar back to life. So be patient, you just finished mowing and the beer will wait. QUALITY OF CUT - First comment here is that after mowing for the first time I realized that the blades that come from the factory are anything but sharp. Keep that in mind with your first cutting. Second - I think there is something to needing high-lift blades and or fiddling with the front end of the mower being a bit lower than the back to optimize cut quality. All those comments aside, I found the cut to be really good my first go around. The striping was attractive and I did not experience any of the "mohawk" down the middle or missed grass on my first mowing. I did just mulch this time around so have not tested bagging or side-discharge capabilites. DESIGN AND VERSATILITY - The mower is very easy to use as reported. The easy-stow handle is really versatile and makes storing the mower a snap. I hope that the pivot/set points stay stable as time evolves. Someone on one of the posts that I read said that an extra 9 inches of cutting deck does not equal 40% more speed in mowing. When I divide 9 inches by 21 inches I actually get almost 43% improvement. I would say that I had at least that much reduction in time mowing my lawn which is almost half an acre in size. Overall it is also much easier to use and not as hard on the body as larger commercial walk-behinds that I have used in the past. Even T-bar equipped Toro commercial walk-behinds take alot more skill and brute force to wheel around than this thing. Now that I do not do it for a living, I think I can give up some inches on the deck for less wear-and-tear on the body. Overall - This is a great concept, put out by a great company. Time will tell if I or any other early purchasers were wise to buy this mower. Right now I would bet that it will serve me well for years to come. In the meantime, I plan on really running it through its paces for the next 30 days!

The lawn mower is larger than any I have ever used and takes a little getting use to. Cuts great, and handles like a dream. My yard is steep and uneven and this mower handles it and cuts it quickly. I used to have to do the front and back on different days due to fatigue and time. Now I can knock it out in the morning before I go to my regular job..

Very Impressed!!!
5 Star Review   By Chris on Home Depot - Jul 1, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Went to Home Depot and bought this mower last week and wow I'm impressed! It has the advantage of a wider deck like a riding/zero turn, yet the smaller over all size for storage and easy maneuverability of a push. I can't believe how easy it is to maneuver considering its size and how solid and well built of a machine it feels. It opened the box, unfolded and tightened the handle, put gas and oil in it and it started on the first pull and has every time. The walk assist feature is amazing. You grab the handle and walk, it moves according to you. Feels like you control it rather than being at the mercy of walking at the speed of the machine like other mowers. And finally, it cuts great. Nice and clean cut grass without leaving the deeper wheel lines in the yard like most push mowers. Would recommend this mower to anyone who has a good size yard, but doesn't want to spend thousands of dollars on a riding/ zero turn. All the same advantages here without the bigger machine and cost!

2 Star Review   By Brian on Home Depot - Jun 29, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This mower was great for the first two months. Easy to use, adequate power, fast, saved me lots of time over a 21-inch mower. However, yesterday it wouldn't start and gas began leaking out of the muffler. Other people have had this problem too (just do a google search). I took it back and Home Depot promptly refunded my money. Shame that the engine maker (Briggs & Stratton) doesn't have better quality control.

5 Star Review   By Jeff on Home Depot - Jun 25, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

After using the same 21" Toro for over 11 years, I upgraded to this 30" mower. It has cut down my mowing time by 50%! It's wider and it handles rough terrain better than my old mower which enables me to move a bit quicker. The Personal Pace is great and it is definitely capable of moving faster than I care to walk when mowing. I love the electric start. The cleaning feature is really great too. I have only mulched so I can't speak to the capacity of the bag, but I trust it is fine. The handle can very easily be moved in an upright position for storage. It is pretty big but still quite manageable. I am so happy I chose this mower and look forward to many opportunities to mow my yard this summer and for many summers to come!

Great when you get a good one!
5 Star Review   By dwalme on Home Depot - Jun 24, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I've had 3 of these now. The first one's rear height adjustment lever was installed incorrectly and came with a permanently bent lever so I had to take it back. The second one of these had a bent deck on the right side that I only noticed when I engaged the blades. They made contact so that one had to go back. The third one works perfectly. I had to go to 3 different home depots and load/unload this heavy beast. I spent an entire Saturday shopping for this thing and then was able to cut my grass. HUGE pain in the butt. If you get a good one this machine is pretty awesome. It takes a little bit getting used to the self-drive system. Holding the handles at the top without gripping the bottom seemed a little weird to me. I started getting used to it about half way through my lawn. I mow 1/3 acre of lawn. This machine left a very nice cut. Noticeably nicer than my neighbor's lawn that has a service which uses a 50" walk behind. I put the oil and gas in and it started on the first pull. So far first pull every time. Plenty of power. No problems cutting long thick sod up hill. I see no downside to the wider width. Not hard to maneuver at all. Most people won't shell out $1k for a lawn mower. I think it would be the perfect machine for about $200 less. I do not regret buying it. Overall I'm really happy with it. The extra 8-10" width really makes a difference.

Great Product - but give careful consideration
4 Star Review   By JimEddie on Home Depot - Jun 23, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I bought this mower as a compromise between my Personal Pace 22" and a Riding Mower. I have a very large lawn, and the PP22 took about two hours. I usually mow it in two sessions. I am writing this after my first mowing. I was attracted to it because it I really liked my PP22, and this mower is similar in some respects -- but not others. Let me compare: First of all, even though it is also has a 190 hp engine, it is LOUD. Much louder than the PP22. Embarassing loud. You will need to wear ear protection in the form of ear plugs or ear-buds for an iPod. It seems to take more umph to start, but it did start on the fist pull (the first time - read on). It seems to be well built, but because of the larger size and extra weight, is seems to have less speed than the PP22, although it is fine if you prefer a moderate walking pace. You need to be fairly physically fit to manuver this mower. It is easy on the straightaways, but turning it in tight places takes extra muscle. Like the PP22, the mulching seems to be excellent, and I believe with the twin blade system it is supposed to be superior. This mower has the feature where you can stop the mower blades without the engine stopping. But, it does not have the feature where you can switch between bagging and mulching with a lever push (I did not realize that before I bought it). I really liked that feature, because sometimes you hit a wild patch when mulching, and don't want to leave clumps. Even though the mower is wider, it is pretty easy to manuver around trees and shrubs, although pulling it backwards takes more effort. A really nice feature is a lever to lower both wheels at once, so you can easily adjust the cut. I have a math backgound, so I viewed the advertised 40% faster with some suspicion. A 30" cut is around 25% larger then a 22", and guess what, I finished my trial mow in about 25% less time. It has the on-deck water hook-up for a hose, which is a little different than the PP22, in that you need to use the supplied hose adaptor fitting. It seems to clean it pretty well though. One thing.. when I went to restart the mower to run the water through it, it would not start. It took about seven pulls and then is sputtered back to life. Hopefully that does not continue. So in summary, it does a great job cutting, it saves some time, it folds up nicely, but .. it cost almost three times as much as the PP22 Toro. So really think about if it is worth it to you. You can only buy this on-line where I live, so I am not sure if you can see it in the store anywhere. If you want to save some time, this is a great mower. And, unlike a Rider, you won't need a truck and three friends to take it in for service. It comes with a three year warranty, and a 90 day no questions asked return. I have found Home Depot to be very good about returns.

Overall great purchase
4 Star Review   By Darrell on Home Depot - Jun 20, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Overall I am happy with the mower. It really cuts down on the mowing time. You can't go too fast or it doesn't cut sufficiently. The grass gets stuck under the mower clogging it up even when the grass is dry so you have to clean it after every mowing. The hose attachment for cleaning out the bottom did do much good. The mower is a little loud. Otherwise, I am very happy with the mower.

Gas leak out of the box
1 Star Review   By Pdaddy on Home Depot - Jun 19, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Ordered this mower on June 9th and it was delivered 10 days later. This mower looks beautiful and I was truly excited to use it. As a high school student, I ran a lawn service and used my dad's Toro for years with no issues. Times have changed! I unpacked the mower, added the oil, added the gas and was off to mow. The mower seemed impressive until the 2nd pass when it stalled. That's when I noticed the gas leaking from the carb... It was dripping out at a high rate. I didn't try to restart it - instead, I called Home Depot and am now waiting for them to schedule a pick up. Truly bummed because I was excited about the wide width. Based upon other NJ based reviews, looks like I'm not the first one to have this gas / carb issue in NJ (???). I have refused a replacement as I question the longevity of a product with this type of initial quality issues.

This product is great for large yards and owners who do not want a riding mower.

This mower starts easily, runs smoothly, has great self-propulsion even on inclines, and the large 30" cutting deck makes mowing a large yard quick and easy, and you can trim and get into narrow and smaller areas that a riding mower would not allow.

Toro is still king!!!
5 Star Review   By svetter84 on Home Depot - Jun 15, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

After debating for months on a riding mower or this 30" Toro. The 30" deck size was perfect and i didnt have to get my gate modified for riding mower. Plus still wanted a little exercise. So I purchased the TORO TIMEMASTER and this is the best of the best when it comes to self porpelled mowers! Pulled out of box, folded handle once, put gas, added oil and started on first pull!!! It runs smooth! Quiet! And cuts the grass very even! The best thing is this thing will pull u! U would be running behind it if you pushed the bar all the way down! Total power!! Love the speed control bar!! Cuts your grass time in half!! I cant wait til next week!!! LOL!! THERE IS NO BETTER WALK BEHIND MOWER THAN THIS!!

Not Perfect, but well worth the money
4 Star Review   By Keith on Home Depot - Jun 13, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I purchased this mower because I have very thick zoysia grass and needed a mower powerful enough to cut it. I apprehensively purchased it with full intentions of trying it once and returning it to Home Depot. I have a Honda 21" and a John Deere 21" mower that can't mow this grass below 2 1/2 inches without bogging down. I got this at Home Depot for $899.00 (with military discount) and tried it out. It's pretty big and heavy but works fantastic. It can cut at the necessary 2" blade height and has no problems. It starts on the first pull and runs steady and smooth. The Quality of cut was fantastic. I read reviews where people commented that it left a "mohawk" in the center where the two blades meet. My mower cut perfect and flat as could be. The engine is relatively quiet, however sounds like a jet engine with the blades engaged. The maneuverability of the mower is great and the personal pace system works much better than anticipated. I fully expected it to be difficult to control. I have tried bagging (huge bag and collects at the back of the bag, not the front), mulching (worked great and cut into very small clippings) and side discharged (didn't clog, but did clump up a little). I'm not concerned about the side discharge becuase I will not use this feature. I think it works great considering it does all three. Some negatives (minor) FIrst - when you try to engage the blade on long un-cut grass the motor can stall out. If I engage the blade while on my driveway, a cut portion of the grass or while slightly tilting the mower upwards in the front, then it's not a problem. second - that sucker drinks some gas. Probably twice as much as my other 21" mowers. Finally - I think they could have used some better quality materials on the mower. I see a few things made of plastic which should be light weight aluminum for longevity. ****HOWEVER - I did purchase the Home Depot extended warrant for $189.00 and now the mower is covered for 6 years parts and labor...... I am very pleased with this mower and would recommend it without reservations....

Expensive, but overall does what it claims.
4 Star Review   By jbwj on Home Depot - Jun 13, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I purchased the Timemaster mower about a month ago after the wheels finally - and permanently - came off our 11 year old Toro 22" mower. It was time. Our property is a mix of flat, easy lawn (about 1/4 acre) and hilly, quite challenging lawn/field (about 1 1/2 acres). There are trees, shrubs, different textures of grass and terrain... i.e. it's a bear that would take between 8 to 12 hours to mow with the old mower and unfortunately a riding mower isn't an option due to the grade on much of it. I reviewed a pile of mower options and the short story is I ended up ordering the Timemaster because the other reviews were generally favorable and I liked the idea of cutting the mow time down as much as possible - although I will say I didn't like the price. I waited to write this review until I mowed the property a few times and was able to get used to the mower's operation. Overall I'd say the mower is good quality and does what it claims in terms of reducing the mow time. On average my mow time is cut 25% to 30%, but as I mentioned - our lawn is very challenging. The quality of the cut is pretty good and while usability is not as good as I'd like, it works well for the situation I have. Some random thoughts: - 30" deck is great. It does the job in terms of reducing cut time. - While the 30" deck is nice, the cut is not high quality if you try mowing deep (>4") grass. After mowing consistently on a weekly basis for a few weeks I do find it's a good cut if the grass length is 3" or less. When the grass is long it does tend to leave some grass uncut in the middle (between the two blades). In the end not a big deal because it's not made to cut hay! - Maneuverability is not a strong point. If you have a flat lawn without a lot of shrubbery then I 100% recommend this mower. It will do the job and really reduce your time. However even though I'm a pretty fit guy, I'm worn out trying to muscle this thing around tight corners because it's pretty heavy. Pulling backwards to change directions will make you work. - The grass catching bag works quite well. However, the side chute does tend to clog up if the grass is at all moist. - The hose attachment for clean out is nice, but only really cleans out the left side. The manual says to run it for 3 minutes... I tried 5 to 10 minutes and still had to flip the unit it over to really clean it. Slightly disappointing, but since I've never had a clean out on a mower this was a nit. - Height adjustment is very easy - I am really happy with how this works. - I found the unit to be pretty loud. Invest in some cheap earplugs and you'll be fine. - Wear gloves. The plastic handle has some rough spots that are tough on the hands. - Storability enhancement is great. - I find the power off switch is a bit of a pain. You really have to hold it down pretty hard and for longer than I'd like in order to kill the engine. - The "personal pace" self-propelled feature is still something I'm getting used to. I hated it the first two times I mowed... to the point I was ready to send it back. I'm getting used to it now and it's not to bad. Definitely climbs the hills nicely and actually is responsive when you want to slow down. One difficulty is if your ground is rough you will find that keeping a steady pace is difficult as the function is sensitive enough to detect pressure changes when you hit a bump. This tends to jerk you around a bit... advice: got slow if the terrain is bumpy! Again, in the end I'm happy with the unit and Toro quality has always been satisfactory so I'm hoping to get another decade out this mower. We'll see.

Toro's Trump Card
5 Star Review   By Miguelito66 on Home Depot - Jun 11, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

All the other mower makers are crazy if they don't come out with this size mower; Honda I'm looking at you! There was no other choice for me. Any mower no matter how good was still just 21" and my 57 year-old feet and legs would be worn out every week mowing 6500 sq. ft. for 75-90 minutes. My first time using it took me 35 minutes without trying hard. I like the "Personal Pace" as it is very intuitive; it doesn't just pull you along but it "walks" along with you. What was surprising to me is its size when you first open the box and see it. It's huge and tough-looking like a King Tiger tank compared to a little Sherman tank. In spite a this it is just as easy to handle as any other mower. The cut quality improved to excellent after using it by the third week but I don't know exactly why. I like that it has ball-bearings on the front wheels; a lot of mowers are getting away from this. My only complaint was the blades were set up wrong; they're supposed to form a perfect tee when they rotate so I loosened the belt and disassembled one pulley and by trial and error got the perfect tee. It fills the bag much better after this and cuts better too. When reassembling the pulley dont over-tighten the four small aircraft bolts as the pulley body is plastic (if you need to do this, I would actually recommend having Toro's service do it). As to the price: It is about twice as much money as any high quality 21" mower but it does have two blades and takes more materials to make. But for me it is worth it; I now sort of like to mow my lawn.

Easy to handle
5 Star Review   By CPJ874 on Home Depot - Jun 8, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Clogs to easy even with morning dew on the lawn. Easy to handle, cut my time in half for sure. Starts on first pull so far, deck washing is a great feature. If the deck shute was 3/4'' it wider it would be perfect, it probably wouldn't clog up as easy.
