Engine problems after 3 uses.
1 Star Review   By Smitty on Home Depot - Jun 15, 2013

I used this lawn mower three times on a 1.5 acre lot. I experienced some trouble with stalling. On fourth mow engine began to hesitate and spit . After shutting down to check gas level it would not start . Waited about five minutes and after about 4-5 pulls finally started but would only run 20 - 30 seconds and quit. I gave up and returned. Since it was only 21 days after purchase I received a full refund - good thing - there was a reconditioned one out in front of store for sale - same model , bag was clean and wheels had slight grass stains ! I will look for another brand that uses a Briggs and Stratton engine .

Put On Your Running Shoes
5 Star Review   By Broceatter on Home Depot - Jun 15, 2013

I was very surprised that the mower moves as fast as it does. It makes cutting my 1/3 of an acre very easy and quick. I don't use the bag so I can not comment on it. The hose attachment feature was really nice and made cleaning the mower a pleasure. I've only had the mower for 2 months so I can not comment on the longevity of the product. My last Home Depot mower lasted 15 years and I would have been happy with half that. My sales person was very helpful and told me he has the same mower and he's had it for 4 years.

Starts good and goes fast with a little bounce
4 Star Review   By ZMOWER on Home Depot - Jun 14, 2013

This is my second Toro Recycler plus my son has one. My first one lasted over 6 years and ran well. The on-line price was good and it was ready at my local Home Depot when I arrived to pick it up. Starts easily and moves quickly. I read about the mower bouncing somewhat as you mow. It bounces or slides a little but this might be a trade-off for the fast pace of the mower. I might try using the rubber tires from my old mower on the new one to see if that might eliminate the bouncing with the plastic tires. Overall, not a bad purchase. Based on past experience, I prefer the Toro over a Troy Build that fell apart after about two mowing seasons worth of use .

I would recommend the Toro Recycler.
4 Star Review   By bubba on Home Depot - Jun 12, 2013

The features of this mower are great, it starts on the first pull every time and it has incredible power. the only thing I would change would be the tires. they are a quality tire, but they don't seem to grip the ground very good with the self propelled unit. overall a good purchase

Good Product
5 Star Review   By BGB5 on Home Depot - Jun 11, 2013

I have only used this mower once, but I am impressed. The mower does a great job. Be sure if using the mulching attachment in very tall thick grass to take it slow, or the motor will struggle and cause a stall. This mower is a great product, but is for city/suburban use on lawns, not country yards. I live in the country and only use the mower on my rental properties in the suburbs, and would never think of using it in the rocky, dusty environment at home. I know it could handle the job, but the life span of the mower would most definitely be compromised.

Starts on the first pull
5 Star Review   By BigJ on Home Depot - Jun 11, 2013

First lawnmower I've ever owned that starts on the 1st pull every time without priming!! Very easy to use and priced well... has a port to attach a water hose for cleaning without turning it over on it's side... the only downfall is the that the self propel seems to go too fast - there may be a way to slow it down but I haven't given it much thought...

Not reliable
3 Star Review   By rickand7 on Home Depot - Jun 7, 2013

Had the mower about 15 months. Have trouble with the motor. Starts right up and then runs for only 10 seconds and dies. Good fuel, new spark plug got it running but starts to miss after only a few minutes. I read something about a thermostat from another reviewer. Not sure what a thermostat does on a mower but it does seem to run rough as it heats up. Could be the coil or something but thing is I don't have the time to mess around with a $300 mower!

used one hour, wouldnt start second time i tried to use it
1 Star Review   By Bayrat37 on Home Depot - Jun 4, 2013

I expected much more from the Toro self propellerd mower.. The FRAME IS FLIMSY. When the handle is depressed to turn the mower, the right dront wheel lifts 2 inches before the rest of the frame started to lift. This occure whenther the baf is full or empty. The second time i tried to use it, it would not start. An unexpectedly deplorable product from Toro.

Consumer reports best buy
5 Star Review   By Jose on Home Depot - Jun 4, 2013

I bought the mower based on the consumer reports review. I have mowed multiple times and the mower cuts through ANYTHING. Perfect for uneven grass. One complaint: when you empty the bag, the trap on the mower has grooves that the grass gets stuck in and you have to pull it out with your fingers. Not a very smart design. But, the mower is great

This product worked as advertised
4 Star Review   By mower124 on Home Depot - May 28, 2013

This self-propelled gasoline-powered mower starts easily and has plenty of power. The rear bagging feature works well. When self-propulsion is engaged, it is a litlle hard to steer in a straight line and to control speed--max speed seems a little fast. Overall, the mower is a good value.

This product will not start.
1 Star Review   By WillNotStart on Home Depot - May 25, 2013

Purchased mower 3/19/12. Has been in for the carburetor twice now. Found out from the Home Depot authorized service dealer that carburetor issues are not covered under warranty. This mower is beginning to cost a lot of time and money. Just had it repaired and one week later the same thing- WILL NOT START. There is no problem with the gasoline.

Self-propelled breaks
1 Star Review   By WorkingMom on Home Depot - May 25, 2013

I have had the self-propelled on this Toro model break on 2 different mowers in one year. The first time was last year, after owning the first mower only 1 month. Luckily for me, Home Depot's customer service was fantastic, and they replaced it no hassle because I'd had it such a short a time. Now, after a year, the 2nd one's self-propelled feature died after the first use this year. This time, I had to try to get it repaired under the Toro 2 year warranty. The local repair shop that handles Toro's warranty repairs said it was a belt, and would cost $90 to repair. Also, they said Toro will not cover this under warranty; they consider "belts" normal wear-and-tear, not a "manufacturer's defect". Yet if you look up reviews on this model on a popular book seller site, you will see that multiple others have had problems with the belt that makes the self-propelled work. I should add that while my yard is not perfect (trees and mole hills), I pick up sticks before I mow, and wash the mower after every use. I liked the mower when it worked. But as someone on a budget, I am less than happy that 1 year after buying this mower, I have to pay a hefty bill to get it to run again!!

Good Mower
4 Star Review   By dave on Home Depot - May 22, 2013

I went to Home Depot looking for a new mower, and found this one in the refurb area and got it for a steal.... but it is well worth full price! I've used several other walk-behinds (used to help out with a friend's lawn service company), and this is the easiest to start and use that I've seen. The propulsion is a little weak for really uneven terrain and it can be prone to bogging down in really thick grass, but then again most home use (non-professional) mowers do. For most home owners with a normal lawn, this is more than enough mower, though. Also, I moved from GA to CA and it survived just fine, put oil and gas back in, and it fired right up.

So far so good
4 Star Review   By StillMowing on Home Depot - May 22, 2013

Purchased mower last fall but finally assembled this spring. Assembly was easy and nice to have a bottle of oil included which eliminated need to run out and get oil. Used mower on grass that was about 18" high using the side discharge and it did great ( did stall out in a couple of places, but not surprised with density and height of grass). The front wheel drive struggled on rough ground, but was good where it had to go up some hills. Overall, a rear wheel drive would be better. but, not a deal breaker. My only concern is some comments I have seen about starting issues as mower gets older. Hopefully, I won't experience this.

Junk mower
1 Star Review   By oden on Home Depot - May 21, 2013

Bought this mower and used it maybe 10 times and would not start. Took it in for warrenty and said not covered because bad gas yrt the same gas runs a 25 year old troy built mower so i imagine it is always bad gas so they do not have to pay for it. Get the mower back after they put new carbuator on it for 140.00 the old carburator looks brand new since it only had maybe 15 hours on it. Then i put the same so called bad gas in it and it keeps running. Then after the second time using from getting the pull start breaks i suppose that is bad gas t0

Starts one pull every time even after 3 full years
3 Star Review   By BDJENKS on Home Depot - May 21, 2013

Runs great but the self propelled part went out in 1 1/2 years. Toro fixed it for free. Now the gear in the wheel for the self propel is stripped. It is made of a plastic composite. Cost $25.00 to buy a wheel and put it on myself. If toro is using plastic gears, I'll never buy another.

Can't keep it going in a straight line
1 Star Review   By David on Home Depot - May 20, 2013

Just purchased this mower and because of the light weight plastic wheels the mower bounces all over the place making it impossible to keep it going in a straight line. As another reviewer said this mower might be fine if you had a "lawn" but most of us have "yards". Looks like a little kid mowing the yard for the first time. My hands were hurting trying to keep it straight. I'm a 57 year old man that has mowed lawns forever and I've never run into this problem before. This is my second toro (first one I had for 10 years) and I did not have this problem. I was told by a dealer that Toro has been using these plastic wheels for five years now. It's now making sense to me why this mower was relatively inexpensive.

quick start is wonderful, and it WORKS!
4 Star Review   By rookiemower on Home Depot - May 20, 2013

Once out of the box, assembly is a breeze. Just add the provided oil, some gas, and you're on your way to mowing. The wheel height adjustments are not as easy as some models, perhaps- but not too difficult. The Quick Start actually works as advertised! Yay! Once done mowing, the provided hose inlet easily lets you clean the blades so you're ready for next time. I live on a very uneven property, and the high rear wheels seem to be handling that with no problem.

Do not buy
2 Star Review   By Ajrdsr on Home Depot - May 19, 2013

You can not pull this thing backwards. I under estimated how important this would be. I used more effort mowing with this than i did with my non-self propelled. When pulling backwards it does not mulch and leaves clumps of grass. Bag is way too small. If you are bagging, skip this mower. If you have more than 1/4 acre of land and your land is not flat, pass on this mower. I will be returning and buying something else.

Good Value for the Price
4 Star Review   By Mowguy on Home Depot - May 16, 2013

If you're on a budget, this is a good product. Setup is extremely easy..just put the handle bar in position and apply the two nuts, fill the oil that comes with it, some gas and it cranked right on with one easy pull...no issues. Streamed right through long, thick grass without delay. Only downside may be the bag is rather cozy (small)

DO NOT BUY THIS MOWER
1 Star Review   By JRH84 on Home Depot - May 14, 2013

This review isn't a slight on Home Depot. I've always shopped at Home Depot and will continue to shop there. Now, onto the review. This mower is absolute garbage. I opted to spend $300 on what I thought would be a "decent" mower opposed to shopping at Wal-Mart for their bargain mower and I'm starting to wonder if the Wal-Mart bargain mower would have been better. I didn't make it more than 30 feet before this $300 piece of garbage bogged down and died. 5 restarts later and I pushed it into the garage and called a professional landscaper to cut the lawn until I could figure out what to do. Needless to say, I ended up having to buy a different mower (won't touch another Toro) and couldn't find the receipt for the now $300 lawn ornament I have. Whats even worse is Toro won't even respond to my emails.

Great mower
4 Star Review   By RumGinBeer on Home Depot - May 14, 2013

No complaints here. This is a good mower for the money. Starts fast, runs well, and does a great job on the lawn. Only complaint is that the engine bogs a tiny bit on wet heavy grass. I saved a few buck on the smaller engine and would not do that next time around.

Somewhat disappointed
2 Star Review   By oldgiracer on Home Depot - May 13, 2013

We bought this model based on price and features and our 20 year old Lawn Boy Gold series is in the shop for only the second time since buying it. Would have bought the more expensive models of Recyclers but read reviews stating problems and dislikes with the Personal Pace drive systems. This models cutting and mulching is very good and what I expected from Toro. The Kohler engine is very shaky in operation, indicating a balance problem? Also don't care for the short oil cap. What I really dislike is the front drive system. When engaged, it pulls markedly to the left which means having to correct to the right to try to maintain a straight cutting line. I'm not a small person and found keeping the mower going straight difficult and the lines in the lawn are crooked (matters to me). I've had front drive mowers in the past and they did not do this. I also found it strange that the drive belt is not protected by a cover under the deck. Overall, I'm seriously considering returning this mower when my old, real Lawn Boy comes out of the shop, it's head and shoulders better than this mower in design and quality of cut and operation.

'Pass', or 'Fail'? ... FAIL.
1 Star Review   By eriknchrisj on Home Depot - May 13, 2013

I don't give bonus points for a product that is somewhat good. No one will get an "extra star" for having good customer service. or a bright smile. The products I rate will either win or lose. They will either 'Pass' or 'Fail'. The business either has their act together, or they don't. So, when it comes to the Toro Recycler 22 in. High Wheel Variable Speed Self-Propelled Gas Lawn Mower, I've made my verdict. Verdict? FAIL. Here's why: I bought the machine and brought it home to replace the piece of junk I purchased the last time I bought a new lawn mower at Home Depot. It didn't work very well either, but I tarried along with it because I just didn't want to lug the thing back into the truck and back to Home Depot to deal with return issues. (Its depressing when you actually have to return something). However, When I bought the Toro and it didn't operate as it was advertized, I thought to myself, "There is no way I'm going to 'tarry' along for another 4 or 5 years with another piece of junk." So this time I brought it back. Why did I return it? Because: The lawn mower is supposed to be a self-propelled law mower. That means exactly what it says. "Self propelled". Well... it didn't do that. I mean... it did, but only about ten percent of the time. Most of the time the two front wheels just kept spinning. Now if you were to see my yard, you would be a little disappointed as well. Its perfectly flat. The grass was bone dry, (it hasn't rained in Texas... in like... forever), and is virtually the smallest yard on the block, (maybe 3700 sqft...?) Before I started the lawnmower, I decided to install the side chute so that the grass would simply shoot out of the side. Even with that installed, the mower bogged down and shut off... twice. It couldn't handle the yard. I thought that if it couldn't handle the front yard, forget it... I'd never get thru with the back. I had to push the mower far more often than simply walk behind it. I was not happy. My wife said to me that she thought it looked like I was struggling with it a little bit while watching me from the window. I finished the front yard and loaded it back into the truck. Half of my day was wasted. Then I siphoned out the six dollars of gas I put into the thing. (I wasn't about to waste that too). The lady at the counter asked me what was wrong with it. I told her that it worked really really well...... on the driveway..... but when it reaches grass, its over. Got my money back and left... satisfied... and ready to recommit to a different mower. The experience was bad enough to prompt me to get a Lowe's credit card the same day. That way, if I decided to buy from them, I could get the discount for having the card. It was a great idea, and I bought a mower from them the next day. Features - Poor. Why? Because if they don't work, then there are no features to brag about. Quality - Poor. Why? Because if they are supposed to have features, and they don't work, then their quality is lacking. Ease of use - Poor. Why? Because, I bought the machine for the features. To make my job 'easier'. The features didn't work. Thus, it wasn't easy to use. Value - Poor. Why? Because anytime you spend money on a product for its features and they don't work, it loses value. Disclaimer: (I do not work for Lowe's, nor have I ever worked for Home Depot. They both have done me well, and they both have done a poor job). This was my replacement: I purchased the Husqvarna 22-in Self-Propelled All Wheel Drive Gas Push Lawn Mower from Lowe's. When I started the thing up and began mowing the back yard, the mower nearly jerked right out of my hands like a great big rottweiler ready to fight. It acted like it was eager to mow the lawn as if saying, "Get out of my way! I'm going to mow your house down!" Now that's what I'm talkin' about... (I like it when a lawn mower tells me what to do). I told my wife that the new one I got from Lowe's might actually put the fun back into mowing that I've missed the past four or five years. Verdict? PASS.

Very disappointed
1 Star Review   By Boss3365 on Home Depot - May 5, 2013

I buy a new lawn mower every year (don't ask) I thought Toro was a good name but not that impressed with this. The bag does not sit securely on the bottom so when you're mowing the vibration causes a lot of the clippings to fly out. The wheels are slippery hard plastic which provide no traction and it takes about 6 or 7 pulls to start. Had a Craftsmen last year that was OK and a Top of the line Honda that I am the most disappointed in. (They start first pull but the decks are so light and cheap, the front wheels bounce everywhere) best one I have ever owned is a John Deere. Super heavy duty, solid and dependable. Going to buy one tomorrow!

This Mower Is Junk
2 Star Review   By Chuck on Home Depot - May 2, 2013

This mower starts on the first pull but it will wear your arms out while trying to make it cut in a straight line. The mower wants to go all over the place and will not let you cut the grass in a straight line. I guess the cheap plastic tires and front tire tred pattern is the problem with it. it also does not cut even. it leaves little patches sticking up all over the lawn. My lawn looks like a drunk cut it and i don't drink. I woul never recomend you to buy this mower.

Warranty is Worthless
1 Star Review   By missgal on Home Depot - May 1, 2013

After purchasing this item and using it twice, the mower stopped working. The shop stated that it had a bad carburetor, but Toro refused to repair it on their Warranty. Had to pay for it out of my own pocket. Will NEVER buy another Toro product!

I bought a Toro Recycler mower that someone had returned. Iasked if it was okay and was told that it was fine they probably just didn't want it. I took it. When I poor gas in it, the gas runs out though the air filter!

Buy Something Else
1 Star Review   By LLJohnson on Home Depot - Apr 25, 2013

I have tried to mow my yard numerous times and yet have been able to finish our average size home lawn with this mower. The mower shuts off, runs rough. It has been in the shop 4 times. The shop has told us we are using bad gas. Well the gas was purchased the same day we tried the mower. This last time they said we need an additive and if we added it we wont have any problems. So we bought and it and you guessed it, less than 15 minutes into it, it died and wont start again. We tried and tried to restart it and finally the cord broke. We are done. We are returning it tomorrow to Home Depot.

Do not buy this brand!
1 Star Review   By KBBurned on Home Depot - Apr 24, 2013

Only buy for a very small lawn without trees and leaves. Purchased unit 8-20-13 and used all of four to six weeks then stored mower for winter. Upon taking unit out, front wheels simply cracked and fell apart. I was told by authorized service center that not only the wheels were garbage but the entire drive assembly and blade is shot. I was told that I ran over a stick. They are willing to repair the drive assembly for more than half the cost of the mower. Home depot does not service the mower so you are at the mercy of the Authorized Service Center. My 20371 has been there 10 days just to be looked at and it will take another week just to replace the wheels. I called over to Toro and they said unless it was a manufacturers defect that they would not cover it. So now or in another two weeks, I’ll probably have a push mower that might just last to the 1 year mark. So much for the full two year warranty. I’ll probably have to scrap it for $5 metal shortly. Look elsewhere for a rugged reliable mower that will not feel like a shopping cart with a broken wheel after a few months.

MOWER IS NOT THAT GOOD
3 Star Review   By STEVE on Home Depot - Apr 16, 2013

I PURCHASE THIS MOWER FOR BEING EASY TO START. WHEN I RAISE THE MOWER UP TO REMOVE GRASS. IT WILL NOT START UNTIL YOU HAVE LET IT SET AND PULL ON THE ROPE MANY TIMES. THIS IS ALSO TRUE WHEN THE MOWER IS ON A BANK AND YOU SHUT IT OFF.

Terrible
1 Star Review   By NicS on Home Depot - Apr 15, 2013

My guess is that this review will be hidden somewhere. Bought one last year. It worked for a few weeks then just died and did not start again. Turned it in to have someone look at it. That took several weeks btw. Ran again until the end of the season. Started up fairly quick for my first cut of the year but only ran for about 30 seconds and I have not been able to start the mower again. People, buy a Honda.

Self propel quit working after half my lawn.
1 Star Review   By mindtrix on Home Depot - Apr 14, 2013

I bought this mower thinking that Toro was a good brand. WRONG! I have about 1/2 acre of lawn to mow, after about 1/3 to 1/2 my lawn, the self propel feature stopped working. I immediately put it in my truck and returned it. Not to mention it has a Kohler courage motor that has plastic cam gears in it, although the motor ran good, it's not built for reliability. I went with a Honda mower and I couldn't be happier with it. STAY AWAY FROM THIS MOWER.

Excellent Mower
5 Star Review   By JWash1 on Home Depot - Apr 14, 2013

I bought one of these for my father in law to replace an old Murray he had been using for about twenty years. He was impressed, he loved it. He was about 82 years old at the time and wanted to do his own yard work, needless to say the old Murray keep him pushing even though it was self propelled. He was so happy with the performance, and effortless drive that I decided to give his new mower a try. A couple of 75 foot passes was all it took, I went to Home Depot and bought one for myself, even though my craftsman was still less than three years old at the time. I liked it and told my sister about it, she tried mine, she bought one a week later. This happened in 2008, all three of these mowers are still on the job and working great. Only one, my sister's unit has ever needed any type of repair other than the usual maintenance, I had to replace her drive transmission about a year ago.

Huge Disappointment - Terrible Mower
1 Star Review   By Breeze214 on Home Depot - Apr 7, 2013

I bought this mower because of the Toro name-huge mistake. The "guaranteed to start" is the biggest joke with this mower. After assembly, I noticed the mower started with very little effort, but during use it bogged down easily, causing me to tilt it up so it wouldn't cut off. The self-propelled works as long as I shoved it around (guess that's not exactly self-propelled) My yard is not huge, but its also not perfectly flat. The 2nd time I tried to use it, the mower failed to start - and it never started again! Called Toro and they only made it worse. They told me to take it to a repair shop and get it fixed!?!? I just purchased the mower, used it 1 time and now it has to be repaired?!?! I took it back to Home Depot, they spent 2 hours troubleshooting and trying to get it started before giving in and issuing a refund. Toro may be a good name, but this mower is a junker.

Will not start
1 Star Review   By Frustrated on Home Depot - Apr 2, 2013

I am on my second one of these. The first one had the self propelled motor break within a month. Home Depot replaced the mower. The second mower will not start after the first mow. Toro sent me to a repair shop who claimed these were garbage. Fixed it for $70. After two mows will not start again. All my other lawn equipment runs and lasts for years. Never a problem. About to pawn it, take my loss and buy a Cub Cadet.

Guaranteed to Start?!? Then Why Won't Mine After 1 Year?!!
1 Star Review   By Sparky on Home Depot - Mar 24, 2013

I loved my last Toro. It lasted 12 years without any problems. I replaced it with this model that I purchased from Home Depot & the darn thing won't start after 1 year. I take care of my lawn mowers & there is no good reason that this mower should already be having problems. Buyer Beware.

Good for lawns, not for yards
3 Star Review   By LMRAT on Home Depot - Mar 23, 2013

I bought this mower as a replacement for an old Craftsman (Briggs and Stratton engine, same HP) mower that died after 7 years of abuse. I think this Toro would be great for a lawn. A tidy, even height, no gopher holes, sweet, lawn. We have a yard. The self-propel is weak and I was unable to get the mower moving without some serious shoving. It bogs down easily. In its favor it does start with just a few pulls. This was good because no matter how careful I mowed, the mower shuttered to a halt 10-15 times while trying to mow our yard. This probably wouldn't be an issue for someone with a nice lawn, but as a yard mower I wish I had gotten more power.

Disappointed with the plastic wheels.
2 Star Review   By MNMN on Home Depot - Mar 23, 2013

Buyer beware. I purshased this lawnmower two days ago, used it once, for about 15 minutes and now I am returning it. The lawnmower does start very easily. I would have enjoyed this lawnmower was it not for the plactic wheels. Whenever I engage the self-propell, the lawnmower zig zags trying to maintain grip, making it hard for a moment to keep the lawnmower in a straight line. Also, if I tried to go over any type of bump in the grass (ant bed) the wheels would spin yet again trying to grip. I purshased this lawn mower to raplace my last Toro, that had nice rubber wheels. I was not expecting plastic wheels. I just wonder how these wheels would hold up after months of use? Considering their lack of grip new. The plactic is just going to become smoother and smoother with use. I understand that a company wants to make a profit, but really, how great is the profit going to be is the consumer is not happy with their purchase and return it without buying Toros again in the future?

Will never by toro again!
1 Star Review   By FLdiver on Home Depot - Mar 17, 2013

Bought this lawn mower based on the brand being a toro- good value and reputation right? Started having problems starting about a year into it and things got worse from then on. Only had it TWO years. I brought it to small engine shop and they told me it was not worth the money to repair. Very, very dissatisfied with the product. Will NEVER by TORO again. All the problems revolved around starting and having it continually running.

Piece of JUNK. 6 Months old-WILL NOT START
1 Star Review   By JohnatDepot on Home Depot - Mar 9, 2013

I bought this at Depot and 6 months later 2/2013 it will NOT start. I tried everything. I contacted Toro and they said in so many words "take it to a shop and have it repaired" DO NOT BUY THIS. One person at Toro actually said it will not take gas over 30 days old. YES, you heard right, 30 days old. Piece of JUNK. All the good reviews on this probably have not had it for more than 6 months. Do not think I am just a mad/crazy person, this thing is a joke.

poor product, do not buy from box store
1 Star Review   By syrup on Home Depot - Feb 21, 2013

I bought the walk behind self-propelled mower in August 2012, and experienced difficult starting from the first time I used it. Thought maybe because it was new was the problem. I used it 7 or 8 times since then, with great difficulty starting each time. This week (2/19/2013) I tried to start it again without success, I thought it was flooded, but no matter how long I waited between trys, it would not start. So I called the number in my Toro paperwork and got a menu telling me to call my local service center. I got a number for Boca Small Engines and they told me the thermostat (?) has a history of not starting on this model and I could bring it in for a warrantee claim. I took it there on Monday the 18th of Feb, and they told me it would be 3 or 4 days to repair. I called today and they said it was brought in on the 19th and it would be 3 or 4 days before they could look at it. Apparently they didn't log it in until the day after I brought it in, so now I am beginning to think I have bought a lousy product with a history of hard starting (per the service center) and a service center that could give a care less if I get my mower fixed in a reasonable time. I have "two" problems to deal with and my grass just keeps on growing..aaaarrrrggh.

Won't start
1 Star Review   By Ronald on Home Depot - Jan 26, 2013

Had mower about 6 weeks. Ran fine like the mulching. After 6 weeks mower won't start. Took it back to Home Depot rental department and they said it was probably bad gas. They drain out the gas and put in new gas. Started up right away. Until that gas ran out. I put in brand new gas and it wouldn't start. So i drained out that gas and bought gas that has no additives. Still won't start. My last lawn mower ran for 20 year with never a problem. I guess i'll find out how good the 3 year start every time warranty.

Worked for 5 months and now won't start
2 Star Review   By Winston on Home Depot - Jan 20, 2013

I bought this and it ran great. I cut my lawn every week. Winter came and lawn growth slows so I didn't use the mower for a couple of months. When I took it out to use it again, it will not start. I keep looking at that "Guaranteed to Start" sign on the front and wonder what that means. Do I call Toro or Home Depot? By the way, many of the products sold at Home Depot and other big box retailers are specially made products for that retailer. Many are nothing like any other product that the manufacturer makes and some are not even made by the same manufacturer. In some cases the retailer purchases the naming rights or has a licensing agreement with the manufacturer. Your Toro mower may not actually be a Toro mower.

5 Star Review   By SJSDRB0106 on Home Depot - Jan 15, 2013

I bought this lawnmower for my father as a birthday gift and he loves it. He loves that it is a Toro. He likes that it has the big wide wheels and the high-power motor. He likes that it is self-propelled and he likes that it came with a bag. He will use it next month (February) for the first time, and he cannot wait! He is very excited to see how it does on the lawn.

Toro brand isn't what it once was.
3 Star Review   By bdwellnia on Home Depot - Jan 12, 2013

After reading all the reviews of all the problems with this mower I had great doubts about buying it. However I had had a couple of Toro mowers and liked the front wheel drive and the larger rear tires. That didn’t leave me many options other than this mower #20371. So even worrying this could be a problem I went to HD and purchased one. I got it home(in the box) and opened it. The first thing I discovered was the handle (the only thing that had to be installed with only 2 screws) was bent out. Therefore it wouldn’t fit on the mower. Back to HD to return it and I did purchase the same model again. This time I insisted that the salesperson takes this second mower out of the box and we checked the handle, tires and if everything was tight on the mower. It was. When I got home with the second one I installed the handle, added the oil (furnished with the mower) and added gas. It started in less than a full pull. We mowed the lawn and it did an excellent job. My advice, if you purchase this mower, or any Toro, you should have them remove it from the box and both inspect the mower before taking it home. I just hope I don’t have any of the other problems with it that I have read about in the reviews.

5 Star Review   By brilin2001 on Home Depot - Jan 7, 2013

This is my second 22"cut high wheel Toro. Bought my 1st at Home Depot in 2002 w/Briggs & Stratton and it still runs & cuts to this very day. Wheels are bald & loose so instesd of replacing & repairing, I bought a new one. "I just wanted a new one". Was a bit sceptical about the change to Kohler but i've owned Kohler in the past and they are a great engine also and the one (Courage XT) on this mower is an excellent engine. Love the new machine, starts first pull everytime I use and the new design (deck & wheel placement) is better than the old. Glad I made the new purchase. Purchased at Home Depot, excellent service as always.

Mows great - Just don't hit a stick - Plastic in cutting area!
2 Star Review   By eddie on Home Depot - Dec 26, 2012

This mower starts and mows great! My problem is there is a large plastic piece in the rear of the mowing area that shattered when I hit a stick while mulching. I only had it for 6 weeks - 2 weeks beyond the return time. Have a look under the deck before you buy.

5 Star Review   By Huff on Home Depot - Nov 26, 2012

I picked this mower up at my local store. I carried it home and read the assembled the mower which took all of 2 mins and I did not need any tools. I filled the oil and gas. It started on the first pull with ease. The self asssit drive is great on the uneven ground around my pool. It mulches leafs and pine staw good. I do wish the bag was a little bigger but I knew the size when purchasing. Nothing negative to say, very good mower and I will never own another mower without self assist or a bagger again!

Third time using it - won't start
1 Star Review   By skittles on Home Depot - Nov 25, 2012

Bought this lawnmower in July 2012, and used it only maybe two or three times this summer. We tried starting it to mulch some leaves in the fall and wouldn't start. We changed the fuel, checked the spark plugs, etc. It is stored in an attached garage and there is no reason that it should already have issues for so many people during the first year. That "guaranteed to start" sticker mocks me.

Good mower for the money
4 Star Review   By Robert on Home Depot - Nov 13, 2012

I bought this mower based on Consumer Reports recommendation & price ($279+tax). Please note that this mower is listed as 20371 online but matches 20331 in-store. It is the same mower, but with a Kohler engine (vs. Briggs & Stratton engine). I previously owned a rear-wheel drive Lawn Boy and this front-wheel drive does take a little getting used to as the mower tends to not track in a straight line if you put too much pressure on the handle of the mower. Also, to engage the self-propelled 'variable speed' feature you need to squeeze the bar less than fully which is a bit of a hassle. That said, I've mowed the lawn twice since purchasing this mower, and it has done a great job cutting the grass & mulching as rated by CR, and I'm quickly adjusting to a front-wheel drive mower.

Great for 4 months, now won't start hot
2 Star Review   By Boater418 on Home Depot - Oct 31, 2012

I have never before had a lawn mower that I couldn't re-start after sitting for a few minutes. Sure, you might have to pull the starter handle a few times, but previous mowers would always start. This one does start fairly well cold, although the the 1-2 pulls is a total myth. It does routinely start cold with 2-4 pulls. It also re-starts after a brief stop, like a minute or so to empty the bag. However, if you stop the mower, and then do something else for 5-10 minutes, it will NOT re-start, even with 20 pulls. The spark plug is fowled with gasoline, which doesn't say much for Toro's emission controls. The mower has to sit for about 30 minutes before it will re-start. Have you ever had to take a lawn mower in for service in the first year of ownership? I haven't either.

4 Star Review   By revbaum on Home Depot - Oct 26, 2012

Works great, starts right up and moves quick. It is heavy and after turning it around mowing back and forth, my back ached. This didn't happen with my push mower. Because of weight, it is a little hard to manuver but it cuts great.

Only used twice, but as of now very satisfied. It now will be judged on dependability.

I like everything about it except that it won't work on a slope.
4 Star Review   By Less on Home Depot - Oct 20, 2012

I have a sloping lawn. This mower is excellent on the flat part (which is small) and very difficult to hold on the slope. The tires are too hard to grip, and it takes a lot of strength to control it. Very frustrating.

Toro mower for prairie type mowing
4 Star Review   By StillMowing on Home Depot - Oct 17, 2012

I haven't had a chance to assemble and use this yet, but purchased this on basis of past experience with Toro mowers which has been excellent. This mower seems to have the power I need ( will be mowing an undeveloped area).

How To Get This Mower Started Guide!
4 Star Review   By sirredbeard on Home Depot - Oct 11, 2012

So I left a bad review on this product before. Only used it four times and wont start. So the problem with this model is there is no fuel filter. Before you even fill the gas tank the first time go spend $3 and get a 1/4" inline fuel filter and install. So the way to fix this thing is to first clamp the fuel line so gas wont spill out of your fuel tank. unmount the air filter assembly by removing 3 10mm bolts and hose going to engine. 10mm wrench to unscrew the very bottom screw on the carb bowl then that will come off. a bit of gas will spill out, but just make sure none is coming from the main fuel line. using a torx bit remove 4 screws holding the carb mechanical linkage brakcets. then take off one side of the vacuum line going to the black thing on top of the carb. you can now remove the carb with a little wiggling loose of some linkage. turn the carb upside down and using a flathead screw driver unscrew the carb jet( the copper thing inside the center hole of the carb) Shake it to get it out. should be 2 peices. the smaller screw piece has a very small hole through the middle and is most likely clogged with something. I used carb cleaner and just held the straw from the can tightly against one side of the hole and sprayed until it came out the other end. on the larger piece of the jet i plugged one side with my finger and sprayed in the other until spray was visable from the side ports. Put everything back together and started on first pull. Hope this will help you guys and gals.

Poor starting if it starts at all.
1 Star Review   By Dave on Home Depot - Oct 10, 2012

Something told me not to buy mower, but I trusted Home Depot to sell a good product Used the mower 4 times over a 2 month period. First time it took 3 pulls to start. Second time took 6 pulls, Third time took 13 pulls. This time I lost count after 30 pulls, never started and pulled my back out in the process. Had fresh gas at the start. Garbage. DO NOT BUY.

Makes a great garage statue
1 Star Review   By SirRedBeard on Home Depot - Oct 10, 2012

Had this mower for 6 months and have used it five times. The last time in order to start it I had to take the air filter off and spray starting fliud in the carb. now it wont start at all. So It cost me $60 per one lawn mowing( about 1/10 acre) I could hire a guy for that much!

Awful product
1 Star Review   By Mike on Home Depot - Oct 10, 2012

Bought this mower from Home Depot in April 2012. Started first pull out of the box. By July it wouldn't start. Returned to Home Depot for a replacement (HD was great...no problem at all with the exchange). Also started first pull out of the box. Now in October the second mower won't start. Will return to HD and buy a Honda. No more Toro for me.

beware of rust
1 Star Review   By Greg on Home Depot - Oct 8, 2012

I purchase the machine 3 years ago in Home Depot. Within first year I could not start the mower and had to spent $ 95.00 to repair it. After three years it rusted through . I called the company and they said the rust is from fertilizer from my lawn!!!!!!!.I My lawn is 20 by 25 feet. Stay away from all TORO products.

Don't Waste your money
1 Star Review   By Jcis on Home Depot - Oct 7, 2012

I bought this lawnmower in June of 2012 after my cheap mower crapped out on me after 6 years. Lawn mower worked great for 3 months. Now it won't start, I have cleaned the carb, fuel lines and changed the oil, air filter, and spark plug. Now I have to send it to an authorized repair shop to get it fixed. I am very disappointed that 3 months later I have to get it repaired, even though it has a warranty.

Will Not Start!
1 Star Review   By AngryConsumer on Home Depot - Oct 6, 2012

I was able to mow the lawn once, that was it. Now with 40 pulls it just will not start. I would have rated this mower atleast 4.5 stars if it ran. I bought this to avoid all the problems that come with a briggs&stratton. Koehler lawn tractor engines are very good. I use sta-bil fuel stabilizer in All my engines. It was put in the fuel the moment the gas was purchased. From other reviews, I thought that might be an issue and made sure to measure it out at the right ratio. This has been a very bad purchase and experience. This brand new mower needs to go to the repair shop now if after I drain the carb it still won't run. I do not recommend this mower.
