Well built tool
5 Star Review   By Dave on Home Depot - May 18, 2012

I've had this pressure washer for 3yrs trouble free. This is a solid tool, with very little plastic. Its not a wimpy home and garden type stuff. This is made for serious work!, and it performs as such.

RD80701, this is the one with the complaints about the soap dispenser/valve. It appears the RD80704 is the newest version/feature set with no soap dispenser and no soap-valve to malfunction such as noted in earlier reviews. RD80704 comes with a tube that you just stick in a soap bottle or container of you're choosing. The soap tube connects after the pump so cleaning solutions are not cycled through the pump. Also some people say they got a Honda engine on their machine. Mine (May 2012) came with the Subaru engine.

High rating based on best in price range
5 Star Review   By Lawrence on Home Depot - May 2, 2012

Pros - Best rated pressure washer in it's price range. Industrial grade parts in a consumer package. Cons - User manual has inadequate information regarding pump and engine user-maintenance. I think a lot of the negative reviews are a consequence of being unaware of critical maintenance and equipment use issues. And end up unknowingly causing unnecessary damage to the machine. RIGID discussion forums has an extensive discussion thread regarding the RD80701 / RD08704 machine. Numbers reflect the same machine with a few minor feature differences. See CAT pumps web page for a pump user manual. Search alternate pump number 3DNX27GSI. Robinamerica web page has the Subaru SP170 / 210 user manuals. You want to look through these user manuals as well as the equipment user manual before operating and damaging the machine. I hope the auditors let this email go through because it contains valuable safety and quality control information not otherwise provided by RIGID or Home Depot.

5 Star Review   By JF0287 on Home Depot - Mar 27, 2012

Looked at and read about several pressure washers. This one had a commercial grade motor and cat pump, plus had a means to dispense detergent. I couldn't find any other washers that had these features at this price. Washer starts on first pull and has plenty of pressure. Idle down feature should save fuel and extend motor life. Have used machine 3 times and am extremely satisfied.

Powerful. Cleans well.
5 Star Review   By Vilma on Home Depot - Dec 6, 2011

Much better than the $100 powewash it replaced and we had to get rid of. Both my husband and I drive Hondas; so the fact this was rated as the best nonprofessional powerwash didn't surprise us since it has a Honda motor. We feel this will last a lifetime while the other cheaper one we had lasted just 2-3 years. This one is also much more powerful. My husband prefers gas tools in general so he doesn't have to drag a cord around or run out of power with a recharcheable unit. Our house and fences are white again for the holidays. We thought it was quite pricey, but I guess you get what you pay for in this like in everything else.

Think twice before you buy this unit -- failure likely
1 Star Review   By Disappointed on Home Depot - Oct 9, 2011

I bought this power washer April 24, 2011 and used it to clean a pool deck, drive way, and wooden deck. It worked great. I used it once every 5 weeks throughout the summer. I am meticulous with yard equipment maintenance. I check oil levels, look for loose parts, and use clean fuel each time I use the equipment. On October 8, 2011, the seals failed and the oil tack filled with water. In less than 5 months of ownership, I accumulated a total run time on the machine of approximately 6 hours. It is very disappointing to have a senseless failure of this caliber. This should be a warranty repair so it is a good thing it has a 3 year warranty. If it failed this soon with such minor use, what is the probability it will require more in the upcoming years? Home Depot will not exchange it because it is past the 90 day exchange policy. However, they did accept the machine to send out for repair. My contention is that there is no way this "commercial” machine should have failed with such minor use. Watch out if you purchase this unit.

Awesome washer
5 Star Review   By AdmiralCrunch on Home Depot - Feb 11, 2011

I have owned this washer for over a year now and have used it to wash my concrete driveway, plastic lawn furniture, my house, and my cars. It works phenomenally well for all of them, and it starts on the first pull 90% of the time and the second pull the other 10%. I haven't had a single problem with it, and it's powerful enough for everything I need. Highly recommended.

This unit has enough power to get the job done.do not lay unit on its side as oil will seep into fuel system.Change Spark plug if you do.Keep the oil filled.Unit will run all day on 2 tanks of Gas. The Main Con to this unit is that the Soap dispenser does not properly..and Rigid is vague about how to fix this.Apparently the design flaw has not been resolved.I canot recommend this unit until soap dispensing problem continues.

4 Star Review   By PW1066 on Home Depot - Dec 31, 2010

I bought one of these, refurbished from a local HDepot. Using it in a professional setting, almost every single day, I got something close to 200 hours of use out of it. It well exceeded my expectations. When it finally died the pump was what went. I still have the engine and it works! I've since moved on to a larger machine but if I had to I would buy this again.

A Good Deal Overall
5 Star Review   By borya on Home Depot - Aug 8, 2010

A reasonably priced powerful pressure washer with commercial rated engine. With 20 degrees nozzle it stripped all the dirt from some 13 year old fence that had not been cleaned in the last 6 years and, I suspect, has never been. Free shipping from Home Depot helped not to bother borrowing a truck.

Lousy Product
1 Star Review   By NotSatified on Home Depot - Jul 19, 2010

First time I used it it started first pull. The next day it was hard to start, but finally did. Ran great. The third day it would not run properly. Acted like it was on full choke. I took it back and got a replacement without a problem. However, the second would not start. After researching washers, this one was supposed to be highly recommended. NOT.

Excellent First Day
5 Star Review   By bradm47 on Home Depot - Jul 17, 2010

If you are torn between the positive and negative reviews on this product, you should read this one. I was at least a little concerned about some of the accounts that were written up. But after talking to my son who has been using this exact unit at a marina this summer, I decided to go for it. I have to agree with the reviewers who criticized the instructions - they could and should be better. But I'll point out what I found to be the shortcomings, so maybe you won't have to worry about it. First, adding oil... They tell you that it comes with two ounces in it, holds 20, and they give you a bottle with 18 in it - so add it all, then check it. I decided to add about 15 or 16 then check, and found it was already slightly over full. The dipstick has a little hatched area near the top, and another near the bottom. I finally figured out that the upper hatched area is 'full". For mine, I needed to add about 14 - 15 ounces to get it full when on a level surface. I'm thinking each one may be a little different. So don't add the whole bottle at first - add part, then keep adding until it just comes up to the upper hatched area, and you'll be good. Next, the pump. In the "quick assembly" guide, they do not mention removing the label and the plug off the top of the pump. There is a tag hanging on the pump that mentions removing the label. And the label says to remove the label and the plug. So, that's what you need to do. The plug is just a little plastic piece that plugs the vent for shipping. It needs to come out and stay out. I think those two things led to most of the bad experiences that were shared on this site. If you pay attention, read the full manual (not just the quick start guide), and take your time, you'll be fine. I also agree that the lid on the soap container doesn't stay on well, but if after filling you rotate it so it catches under the front cover, it stays on just fine - or at least it did for me. The hoses were all tight and I had no leaks, but the hose for the external bottle did have a kink near the end which I cut off before adding the strainer. I used it for about four hours today, and it was flawless. Here are some things I recommend so that you can have the same experience I had. First, after hooking up the wand and HP hoses, hook up the garden hose. Turn on the water and then pull the trigger until water is squirting out the tip with no air. This is important. THEN you can start it. I had the fuel valve off before filling, and turned it on only when I was ready to start. I made sure the throttle was full (lever to left) and the choke was on. Of course I had just added the oil to the engine, so I knew it was good, and I confirmed that oil level in the sight glass in the end of the pump. Then I started it. Took several pulls that first time, but no surprise to me. Once it fired, it ran for a few seconds, then started to stall. I turned the choke off, it revved right back up, and never quit. I did let it warm up for a few minutes while I was getting organized, and it worked beautifully. The soap tip drew very well (I used the built in container), and other than the normal minor speed flucuations when letting off the trigger, this unit didn't miss a beat. I used it for a total of 4 hours in 3 sessions. When I was finished with each session, I turned the fuel valve off BEFORE stopping the engine, and let it run for about 20-30 seconds, then used the kill switch to stop it (not the choke). When I got ready to restart, I turned the fuel back on just before starting, and it started easily on the first pull EVERY TIME. So, you can read the others to learn about how good it cleans, features, etc. - I'm running out of space - but buy this unit if you want the best non-pro unit out there, with a rebuildable cat pump and not a disposable piece of junk. I am thrilled with my choice. Good luck!

pretty good so far
4 Star Review   By esungyun on Home Depot - Jul 17, 2010

Coming from a small cheapy electric unit, this PW is great in most respects. Function once it gets started is superb. Used it to clean my driveway and car and does it effortlessly. Also purchased the Foam Blaster attachment, and for only $20, it is a great deal. Only gripes are the oil reservoir. I assumed the unit only came with few oz's of oil in the 20oz tank, so I attempted to pour in most of the included 18oz only to find the majority of it spilling out?? (NOTE: must remember to pull the vent plug prior to adding oil, which I did but still had the overfill problem). Second issue is the start. First few times, it started with the first or second pull. Lately, it's required 4,5,6 pulls to get the motor started. Perhaps with the EFI version, this may be less of an issue, but at a $200 higher pricepoint, I didn't think it was worth it. All in all, a very good unit at a competitive price.

Rigid Review!
4 Star Review   By WayneGro on Home Depot - Jul 17, 2010

Look this pressure washer isn't the be all end all... however, it is a really good machine. As far as quality is concerned it does what it says it will, it does start very easily and I can think only of a few criticisms. 1. The knob on the front to switch between tank/rear tank broke on mine, I turned it to hard and it just snapped off. After looking at it for more then 20 minutes trying to figure out how I did it... I noticed the thing was really cheaply made, and I can see how this would be a common problem. 2. Shutting off the unit, and the water every time you want to depressurize the hose is a bit much. It needs to incorporate a valve for shutting off the water and or the hose so that you can switch delivery methods on the fly. I will likely go to the local plumbing store and create my own. I do recommend buying a floor scrubber if your going to use this on a driveway. It is soooo worth the money and really I can't see how using one without it would be efficient at all! The soap only dispenses on a low pressure output wand, and the one provided (the tip) seems cheap as well. It works but you have to play with it a bit. All in all this a great machine. It has a lot of power, and folds for storage nicely. But not enough can be said for how easily it starts... every pull! Even after running it out of fuel. Buy one, buy the rotary floor scrubber and an oscillating sprayer tip... you won't regret it!

Overall good, but with some problems
4 Star Review   By EAFinVirginia on Home Depot - Jul 9, 2010

The engine starts easily and am very happy with it so far. no leaking oil or other issues noted elsewhere in reviews. The pump operates as expect, but I have only 8 or so hour on it. The wheels come off occasionally because the clip pins pop out. I think they are too weak. Replace with cotter pins to fix this, but it suggests a very poor design. The front gallon jug mount is close to useless, as the bungee squeezes the jug and fluid spills everywhere. This is fixable by cutting a hole in a cap for the tube and removing half a jug of fluid before mounting. The hose won't release from the handle, even with considerable force applied, which suggests couplings out of tolerance. Overall I'm happy with the purchase but am very worried about the long term reliablility, as this appear to be designed by someone who never bothered to use it in the real world. Good looks took priority over function, maybe.

1 Star Review   By 2292 on Home Depot - Jul 6, 2010

Purchased my first ever Ridgid 3000 PSI pressure washer powered by a SUBARU engine from my local Home Depot in April 2010. Thought Ridgid was a good brand. Got it home and carefully unpacked it and started reading instructions. Followed them to the letter step by step. I got to the part where I was to add the oil to the Engine and did so per instructions. Didn't spill a drop. Went on to finish remaining steps . All went well. The following day I was going to fire it up for the first time and noticed oil had run on the floor under the washer. Checked and found no loose bolts or drain plugs. Returned the washer and Home Depot was happy to give me another. Took it home and had the same problem after filling it with oil. This time the oil leak was worse. Oil started oozing out around the bottom of the crank case and began dripping on the floor with in 10 minutes. Returned it for a refund. Was not going to try a third. Don't know how well this washer would preform because I never got that far.

Made in the USA Rigid Pressure Washer
5 Star Review   By MBPainting on Home Depot - Jul 6, 2010

We bought this in May 2010 for our business. We have used it on three jobs to date and we just love this pressure washer. It is the best one we have ever had. The last one was about to give up the ghost so we purchase this as a replacement. We hope this one last for several years. We changed the oils before they were due. One thing we are going to do it get a couple of extra cat pump drain plugs since they are plastic. We would hate to need one and not have a exrta. The detergent dispenser does not work well but other than that we 100% satisfied with this purchase.

5 Star Review   By josue on Home Depot - Jun 24, 2010

I had been looking for a pressure washer for a few months now and was researching all the sites. I found that everybody said that Cat pressure pumps were the best. I also read that all other pumps paled in comparison for durability and consistant psi. So i looked around and found this model at home depot. It has a Suburu enging with a cat pump... The washer far exeeded my expectations... This washer has more power than a so called commerical brand with 3500 psi.. I was amazed with the power.. I have put it through about 4 hours of use and am 100 percent satisfied. It does cost a couple hundred dollars more than other brands but its worth it. Dont waste your time with a different pump... Plus home depot covers it for 3 months no matter what happens to it. It also has a 3 year manufacturer warrenty that uses home depot to repair its machines.. The engine is super quite and turns on with first pull.... Tip... buy a turbo nozzle.

Rigid PW
4 Star Review   By Kels21 on Home Depot - Jun 20, 2010

This Pressure Washer is GREAT! The quick connectors work well and it has enough power to make even the large jobs go smoothly. It is powerful enough to do some damage if you do not have experience pressure washing. There was one thing that stopped me from giving this washer 5 stars. !. The detergent cap keeps vibrating open and spraying detergent all over the pump and the motor. I wish it had a screw on cap.

disappointed and frustrated
1 Star Review   By contractorbob on Home Depot - Jun 15, 2010

Well, I have owned two of these machines in one month. The first one was a a disaster. The wand handle never connected properly, the pump leaked, but the straw that broke the camels back was the engine pull cord seizing. I tried everything including all online suggestions. I took it back for a second chance. Well, this one worked great for the first ten hours and then the pump began leaking and then died. The oil level on both pumps was perfect but they still failed. I am so frustrated. I may go with the dewalt next. Just don't know. They both let me down in the middle of a job. When it worked, it worked well.

SOLID Pressure washer
5 Star Review   By CARYHOMEOWNER on Home Depot - Jun 12, 2010

I tried other pressure washer before I bought this unit. Here are some of things I considered before I bought unit and follow-ups. 1) Engine: Honda vs. Briggs, and this Subaru 2) Water pump: Axial vs, plunger 3) Warranty: MFG vs. HD After I bought this unit, the engine was better than I expected. About same as Honda, it started with the first pull and after warm up (takes about 3 minutes), the engine is able to maintain the throttle at required speed The CAT pump seems to be working fine, but the time will tell. However, hearing all these cheap axial pump failing after certain period with expensive repair/replacement, I would like to be able to use this unit at least 5 years without any problem. HD warranty handling for RIGID is easy compared to dealing with some other MFGs directly. I just need to haul this to the closest HD store. Also 3 years warranty and one additional 4th warranty by the credit card company is a plus for me. I used twice and each time it performed 100% perfect.

After having spent the last couple of years on power washers that never lived up to their claims, I can honestly say this is the best washer for the money, I use it to clean the pool apron which has been paintedwith slip proof paint. The winter months make a mess out of the apron and its been difficult to clean in the past. Using this unit cleaned it to the point of absolutely amazing, The assembly is no big deal, althought the oil that comes with it will overfill the engine so dont put it al l in at onc wihtout checkiing as you go. The hookups are simple and timesavers, the engine started effortlessly with one small pull. One point of caution, if you are cleaning siding, make sure the exhaust isn't facing ot near the siding, as I found out, in a few short seconds, the vinyl siding changed shape,. my fault for not paying attention, not Rigids. All things considered, its and aweome machine and there are ample nozzles... Dont hesitate if you are condering this , its a winner

Ridgid PW 3000 PSI
4 Star Review   By BRD69 on Home Depot - Jun 7, 2010

The machine is very strong and holds no punches as far as power and capability. It starts always on the first pull, and runs without any hassles. The only issue I have had is that the soap from the soap dispenser is NOT coming out, so I am using the exterior soap option instead. For some reason, no soap extract from this area, but everything else works perfectly. The pump and engine are strong; with a 1 gallon gas tank will run for about an hour without stopping. I wish it came with 5 tips instead of 4, but this is a minor issue. I would recommend.

Great Machine
5 Star Review   By CajunDavid on Home Depot - Jun 3, 2010

I'm a painter and powerwash often. I choose this one because of the Rigid name. I'm not disappointed! It's a well thought out machine that makes my job as easy and as fast as possible. It starts really fast, has plenty of power, is easy to move and change tips and the adjustable grip on the gun is much easier on the hands and elbows after hours of use. Buy it, you won't be sorry.

Exceptional Machine
5 Star Review   By Mudder on Home Depot - Jun 1, 2010

Bought this pressure washer as a last minute need for washing our 4 x 4 trucks. We take our trucks off-roading every weekend and was tired of taking it to the local car wash and spending a forturne on quarters! This machine did the job of removing hard core mud. Used it to of course to pressure wash our siding and deck, and concrete patio in which it performed exceptionally!! Great Machine for the money since it is built top notch compared to other machines we have seen. Very easy to assemble and love the heavy duty durable hose. We also pressure washed non-stop for almost 2 hours on a full tank of gas which was nice too so you didnt have to stop and refill all the time. Best purchase and choice we made so far this year!!

Good piece of equipment
4 Star Review   By ryan1 on Home Depot - May 19, 2010

Bought mine on Sunday May 16th with a 10% off coupon, couldn't haggle price down unlike sometimes. Used it on Monday for 2.5 hours and on Wed for 2.5 hours. Washed the driveway and the front of the house. At first, driveway seemed to take longer than advertised, but then I popped on the $70, 15" surface cleaner I bought, and wow did that speed things up. Definitely get one of the surface cleaners, well worth the $70, cut my time down by at least 80%. Only took about 17oz of oil. The 0 degree nozzle doesn't like to come off, trying to pop off constantly works after a while, but I found, just popping off and then hitting the trigger and blowing it off worked best. Wish I had bought an extension wand, even the 0 degree is hard for any cleaning over 12 feet tall. Though the 0 degree close will peel paint. All in all, house looks great, driveway looks great, Rigid runs great, just need to hit the sides, back, garage, grill, rear deck, etc.

AWESOME PRESSURE WASHER!!
5 Star Review   By mkaa05 on Home Depot - May 11, 2010

This Rigid pressure washer is fantastic!! The engine starts everytime on the first pull...it's true!! I have owned this unit almost a year now and have washed the truck, and vehicles many times!! No need to scrub, bugs grime and all are gone!! Yes if it's super filthy you may have to scrub a spot or two but it cleans very nicely without any fuss or soap for that matter. I have done our house which has steel siding and it looks like new again!! I can't say enough good about this unit!! Nice job Rigid!!! Mike Hudson, WI

Very happy with this product
4 Star Review   By AnotherJoeP on Home Depot - May 3, 2010

I had researched pressure washers for almost a year, and finally decided on this model due to its high ratings and quality components. Assembly was pretty simple, but the instructions could have been a lot clearer for those who might be familiar with the units. Starting the engine is straightforward, and it has plenty of power. Just a few bits of advice to Ridgid: Spend a few more dollars to have instructions that are more complete and easier to read (use words instead of arrows and action graphics). Also, the bungee cord is too short and crushes the soap bottle on the front. A video on your site would add a lot of value to this pressure washer, as most purchasers are not professionals and could use a few real-world usage lessons. Besides these few minor items, I am very happy with this pressure washer.

BUY IT
5 Star Review   By DLKALK on Home Depot - Apr 27, 2010

I've been throught the Troy-Bilt and Craftsman, had problems with both after first week of use, even with the Honda engine. This year I decided to spend the $549 plus a 10% off coupon and free shipping. I am very glad I did. This machine is strong and well built. I am very happy! Engine starts on the first pull every time and runs smooth. Be very carefull when adding the oil. Don't go by the 2oz + 18oz = 20oz. like the instructions say, you will over fill. Too much oil = lots of smoke and rough running. I only had to add about 15oz. Get some extra Cat pump oil also, for it is important to change after first few hours of use, and to keep level with the "red dot" on the pump sight glass after that. Also, The red fill cap on top of the pump has a little black plug that must be removed, use a pair of pliers to remove, the directions were not very clear of this. BUY IT! Don't waste your $400 on the Craftsman or Troy!

Finally a good pressure washer
5 Star Review   By WorksForMe on Home Depot - Apr 26, 2010

I've been through numerous washers over the past 10 years. I've never been truly satisfied with any until now. I bought this machine Saturday and put it through the paces all day Sunday without disappointment. Easy assembly, quick start and smooth operation. The longer wand is a bonus, no bending over for a close spray. I like that the wand mount locks the wand in place so I can leave it there when it's in the back of my truck. The machine has a compact design that is nice. My only complaint is the lack of pressure hose mount. It seems to have an excellent setup for using detergents, though I never do. The pumps have always been the weak point of past washers, I'm hopeful that the positive reviews of this CAT pump hold true and I'll be able to use this machine for several years.

Totally Disappointed
1 Star Review   By jambet on Home Depot - Apr 5, 2010

I bought this model last year mainly for the Rigid name and Subaru motor. I was totally impressed the first several times I used it. It was flawless. Then after about 10 uses, the water pump broke. Took it to HD, they sent it off for warranty repair- no charge. Got it back over a month later. This time it worked maybe 5 times before the pump has gone out again. I'm going to send it off for warranty repair again. But in the meantime, I'm going to buy a different brand washer somewhere else since I can't rely on the Rigid.

A great power washer
5 Star Review   By CJACustomWoodworking on Home Depot - Apr 2, 2010

This is an upgrade to my $229 Troy-Bilt. More psi and more horsepower mean more work done. Buy a little more than you need, you'll be glad you did. My last power washer had a plastic carb that was junk. This Subaru motor is strong and surprisingly its great on fuel. My 1/2 gallon Briggs motor would have to be filled with less than an hour of use. I used a brand new machine for two hours and still have a 1/2 tank. I am very happy with this purchase. I paid $579, could have saved $30 buying online with free shipping. All the connections are quick connects like on air tools, so once pressure is released, they come right off. You will not be disappointed. The nozzels store right on the gun itself so they are close by when you need to change tips. Only needed the 40 degree nozzel for my house, really cleaned the mold and moss off great. Pump is a Cat pump, it has its own oil reserve that gets changed every 50 hours, so you know if it allows maintenance, its heavy duty. Buy this one if you're looking for a power washer.

2nd one is good!
5 Star Review   By cleanyard on Home Depot - Mar 31, 2010

I purchased my first unit 3 weeks ago. Used it no more than 1.5 hrs, shut it off periodically and carefully checked oil levels during use. After the unit cooled off, the CAT pump leaked pump oil badly, apparently leaking from the junction of the brass valve assembly and the CAT cast metal body. I returned to Home Depot, they cheerfully refunded my money as they did not have in stock at that store. They referred me to nearby store. I purchased my second unit a few days ago, and so far it is perfect. The unit has plenty of power, and the materials used are first rate. I hope this (2nd) unit of mine will last many years - use pump saver after each use, and change oils as recommended!!

Not real Happy
1 Star Review   By WISC737 on Home Depot - Mar 20, 2010

This appears to be a very good machine but it was shipped with a defective female connector that connects the power hose. I will have to wait 3 to 4 weeks for the replacement part before I will be able to try it out. I'm giving this a one rating only because it came defective and I could not use it.

Project: Truck with medium buildup on exteriors.
3 Star Review   By RIDGIDUSER001 on Home Depot - Mar 9, 2010

First off I had to travel 2 hours out of my local area to purchase this Pressure Washer. I got it home, called RIGID at 1-800-474-3443 and spoke with a technician regarding prepping the unit before running. I did this to keep my warranty from becoming VOID! After following the detailed instructions from RIDGID, I cranked over the motor and it started right up. I operated it running water from an exterior outlet for approximately 20 minutes. During that time period I kept noticing the motor make an in and out sound almost like it was about to stop on me. Upon shutting the PW off, it made a loud bang, much like the bang you hear from a muffler exhaust pan. I turned it off, re-checked the plugs and filter. Everything looked just fine. Happened again but with one more problem added to it now. Does not start right back up unless the trigger handle is released. Once I had to keep it squeezed down while cranking the pulley, then it started. After using the PW for almost 1 hour, overall, I was a bit disappointed with it. I still had to use a solvent applicator and agitate the dirty surfaces to remove medium buildup, which I surely thought this pressure washer would get with no problems. The coiled hose get two thumbs down from me. Don't care for the hose and the way it was packaged. Typically, the hardened hoses never give much resistance to begin with so trying to straighten them out upon usage will be an ongoing problem. I'd check around for various hoses before you buy this product. I'm going to sleep on it and turn it on again in the morning before I decide to take it back to HD. Also, from what I understand, RIDGID has had to redesign a new part for this unit. I have not tried the detergent method yet because of the negative reviews. I kept the dial knob turned to the off position during usage. I will more than likely be bringing this back. There just does not seem to be enough power. Overall, it was a huge waste of water and time. I ended up doing a manual wash with solvent and rags for most of the project.

Great Power Washer
5 Star Review   By JustKickenIT on Home Depot - Dec 30, 2009

I purchased this power washerright before the holidays and have no regret. It is simple to start and assemble. The hose that comes with it is better than most and I had no issues with a kinked pick up line for the detergent tank. Also purchased the Turbo Nozzle and they both work great on the patio and driveway. I had a contractor come and ask me about the unit and was impressed with it. He said he liked it better than his Dewalt unit that was on the fritz. Just happy i spent the extra money for the Rigid over the husky 3000 PSI model.

Best For The Money
5 Star Review   By Willy123 on Home Depot - Dec 23, 2009

This machine is awsome! I have had several pressure washers over the years and this one is, by far, the best I've ever owned. Puts together in about 15 minutes and is very well built. As other reviewers have mentioned, PUT THE OIL IN SLOWLY. Nice big gas tank so you can run for a couple of hours without refueling. Starts easy and has plenty of power to do the toughest jobs. My driveways have never been cleaner. This is a commercial grade washer for the homeowner and is well worth the money (I paid $550). Yes, the soap hose was kinked on mine too and I don't understand why they ship it this way. This would not happen if they just tucked the hose down another way, but this is not a big issue (easy to fix).

Great product
5 Star Review   By BBlock on Home Depot - Nov 2, 2009

After extensive research, I was pleased with my decision to purchase this brand, reason being, 1. A quality pump. 2. The Subaru engine, starts every time on the first pull, and delivers quiet, reliable performance. 3. The Ridgid 3 yr warranty, not that I expect to need it, but piece of mind that they stand behind their products. This machine performs really nice, has good components and is a great value for the price, I would highly recommend this, my subcontractors have seen it and used it, and prefer it over the ones they have.

One kinky pressure washer
4 Star Review   By zxorcst on Home Depot - Sep 7, 2009

Just as many have said the soap dispenser does not work on either the tank or direct bottle function. The hose was kinked like others have said. Also The owners manual says there is 2oz of oil in the engine, and to add the "supplied oil" however, there was none supplied. You can use any SAE 30 or SAE 10W30 for this. Other than that it worked very well and I am happy I paid more for the CAT pump. Started on the first pull and has plenty of power.

ridgid pressure washer
3 Star Review   By gcbama on Home Depot - Sep 7, 2009

i have been to this website probably 50 times among all the web sites for pressure washers and many many in store visits and i had it narrowed down to the ridgid 3000 psi pressure washer. i wanted at least a 3000 psi and i wanted one with the cat pump. i went in to buy this one and they had it marked $379 and i asked someonje working there in the dept and was told it was clearance down from $549 so i looked it over best as i could and i bought it. it was already assembled with no box so i took it that i was getting what i had looked at 3o times or so and when i went back in later to ask for a upc code from a box the guy there said did you get the one with the cat pump or the axial pump and thats the first i realized i hadnt gotten the one i wanted. i have been to the home depot website many times and even the ridgid website and there never was any mention of this model having any other pump than the cat pump. its probably a good pressure washer but i am not happy about this. i had already sent it back home with my dad cause i was camping so when i can get back down to where i bought it i will return it and get the other. im just writing this to let others knbow they may show on the website with cat pump but make sure it has it before you buy. this will cost me about $50 in gas plus the cost of the better model

Misc Items
3 Star Review   By Dirtthrasher on Home Depot - Aug 10, 2009

After seeing other reviews, I decided to purchase this product. After seeing the other problems mentioned in these reviews (mine had the kincked detergent hose, etc), I had some additional ones on top of those. The piece parts bag including warranty card and instructions,, were double shipped (twice the amount). There was no motor oil shipped (I think its suppose to be included??)..YOU WILL NEED TO BUY MOTOR OIL ! You will need your reading glasses to read the instructions. The print is far too small to understand easily. I poured gasoline into the tank, and it promptly spilled out of the engine onto the ground ! This is a safety issue for sure. The carburator float bowl had come off during shipment. I didnt know what it was at the time of assembly. It was an "extra part". I fixed it, and finally got the washer to fire up, but I have not used it . It was pouring rain outside. big surprise.

Awesome Pressure Washer

This unit is awesome. It has plenty of power to do most of your jobs around the house. I recommend purchasing the roto blast tip for really hard to clean surfaces. I used this to clean my deck, and was totally impressed by its cleaning power. It made it look brand new. You can't go wrong with this unit for the money. Great pressure washer.

Best for the price
4 Star Review   By nchuck on Home Depot - Jul 12, 2009

I'll start with the cons. Other reviews like this one are correct. The soap dispenser doesn't work and the hoses are kinked. Luckily I had extra tubing and by-passed the dispenser all together and just hooked up right from the pump. Next is the wheel falling off. Mine did as well. I just used a key ring to secure the rod instead of the supplied pin. Minor issues at best. That is all I have for the cons. It was easy to put together in about 10 minutes or so. Wasn't sure about the motor not being a honda, but it has started on the first pull every time. I know the pump will last because it's a cat. Main reason for buying this model. I wanted a good pressure washer for around $500. The pumps are always the first thing to go so I started looking at models with the cat pump. I will see how the motor lasts in the future. Overall I am very pleased with this washer. It has more than enough power for any home owner and even took up some of my concrete when I got too close. Again, great pressure washer for not breaking the bank!

Pressure washer
4 Star Review   By retiredpilot on Home Depot - Jul 6, 2009

Started on third pull. Pressure was on again, off again for first few minutes but after that pressure was continuous, might have been some air in water line. One place in the instructions about the tag on the pump oil fill was a little confusing but I think that I did it right. Other than that instructions were pretty straight forward. Haven't used it with soap yet.

Great Except the Wheel Falls Off
5 Star Review   By Homeowner12345 on Home Depot - Jun 5, 2009

Bought this 6 days ago. Fuel tank is really .96 gallons, not 3.4 gallons like the HD site says, but that's OK, it's plenty big enough. Bought the $30 rotating nozzle to clean concrete. The 3000 psi and the rotating nozzle made quick work of the job. The 50 year old concrete looks like it has been painted high gloss white. It is everything I hoped for, Used the 25 degree nozzle to clean the cedar shngles on the roof of my gazebo. Lots of dirt and some algae and some really nasty hard green stuff. The roof looks like new and is ready to stain. Be careful with cedar, as it is very soft. The force of the water ejecting makes the handle almost weightless, so it wasn't too hard to hold the handle vertical above the roof, while on a ladder. The real problem was controlling the lateral motion of the spray head. Well, a piece of 1/2" diameter PVC pipe is a press fit into the hollow standard auxiliary handle. Add some waterproof tape and you have a wonderful removable extension for the auxiliary handle. Now the wheel falling off: it really happened. The unit is supplied with .080" diameter hitch pins to hold the wheel axles onto the frame. The left hitch pin liked to vibrate out of the axle, then the axle would vibrate out of the frame. Imagine my surprise when I came down the ladder to see my beautiful toy leaning to the left. I replaced the .080" hitch pins with .125" hitch pins. Those puppies will never vibrate out. 50 cents well spent. Winter storage promises to be a problem. In Michigan, I will not be able to store it in "a frost free" area as the manual requires. I am thinking of trying to run some RV Antifreeze through the pump. I would appreciate feedback from others on this idea. I'm not worried about the engine storage. I strongly recommend this unit to everyone. The engine always starts on the first pull. Nothing leaks. Huge amounts of power. Yes, you have to replace the hitch pins. Yes, the detergent bottle intake hose ships with a big kink, but I'm not going to use that anyway. Neither of these issues prevent a rating of 5. It is everything a fussy old homeowner could want. If anyone knows what the cheapo caribiner is for, I would love to know.

Great Machine
5 Star Review   By dodss on Home Depot - May 29, 2009

i own a company that uses power washers as their main piece of equipment. we have owned and operated many types of power washers through the years. this is the first time we have purchased a power washer through home depot, we typically purchase ours through other local dealers. this particular power washer was purchased because many of our current washers ended up in the shop and we were in desperate need of one. the reason we purchased this product was first; it was the RIDGID brand, which we find to be a dependable manufacturer, secondly; it is operated by using a CAT pump, which all of our other power washers use. they are great pumps and very dependable, this pump alone retails between $300-350! we put it to use right away and i do admit i was impressed! assembly was easy and it worked great! it comes with everything you need, whether you're a contractor or basic homeowner. this machine can do it all! i highly recommend this product for all your washing needs! we have since purchased a few more of these washers! NOTE: others have discussed the engine oil: the washers do come with roughly 2oz. of oil in them, be sure to fill the machine with the 18oz. bottle supplied. it requires 20oz. of engine oil! and be sure to change the initial oil after a few uses. and do remember the pump oil does need to be changed too from time to time, using formulated CAT pump oil. Enjoy!

Suburu Engine + CAT Pump = Reliable workhorse
5 Star Review   By bigjimcfh on Home Depot - May 29, 2009

I bought this bad boy a couple of months ago after I had already purchased and returned another model from a competing hardware store. After the return of the first one, I did some thorough research and found the Ridgid 3k PSI looked good with the Suburu/CAT combo. Suburu seems to rival that of Honda with reliability and performance as they have been making engines for years under the Robin name. Cat pumps have a reputation for being well built and durable. You cant go wrong with this setup. The disadvantage of the "Maintenance Free" pumps you get with the cheaper washers is just that, you cant maintain them, once they go bad, they are garbage. If you're looking at getting a pressure washer, look no further, spend the extra money and get this machine. You wont look back. For me, this beast has cleaned my concrete, stripped my deck (like new), washed my tillers, mowers, cars/truck, trailer, BBQ grill and house and does it all without missing a beat. All done with pure power and no soap.

Generally a quality unit, but ...
4 Star Review   By ArnieInCT on Home Depot - May 8, 2009

I've been through three or four electric pressure sprayers over the last 12 years or so. I finally decided to go with a gas unit and this looked like a good, though kinda pricey one. I read the reviews and, while certainly not perfect, it looked better than some of the other product's reviews. In general, I agree with statements in the other reviews. I'll add my $0.02 here. Please be aware that I'm being kinda critical - YMMV. I'll start with the "bad stuff". - The 'auxiliary' handle (left or right handed) is placed too far forward on the wand to be comfortable to use. If my left arm was about 6 inches longer than my right hand, it's be OK. - I put 'soap' in the 'rear' tank. The Front-Off-Rear selector switch leaks. I turned the selector knob. It came off and a small O-Ring disappeared through a crack in the deck, never to be seen again. Luckily, my local hardware store carries a good selection of O-Rings, so I got a replacement. The selector still leaks. - The hose for feeding the soap from the rear tank is kinked. This has been noted by another reviewer. Really, for the price of this unit, they couldn't have made the hose two inches londer to get a smooth bend rather than a kink? - Also as another reviewer mentioned, don't add all of the engine oil at once. Start with about a half bottle, check the level, and work your way up. There's already a couple of ounces in the engine. - The instructions, well, aren't great. It took a call to customer service to finish the prep. On the other hand, RIDGID instructions are better than many others. And, customer service wann't too painfull. OK, the good stuff. - The engine (who would have thought Subaru?), pump and frame are great. - The high pressure hose and wand are nice. - I added my own quick-connect fittings for the water line (hose). That allows me to switch between the sprayer and hose nozzles quickly and easily. The unit should have come with a quick connect fitting. - The gas tank and cap are actually metal. I haven't seen that in a long time. We'll see if that's a good thing, vs plastic. All in all, I'm pleased. The unit has a few problems. Returning it for another wouldn't have solved them - the problems are in the basic design. In summary, it works and works well. But, being a home handyman doesn't hurt when it comes to getting it working properly. - Arnie

Awesome Pressure Washer
5 Star Review   By EddieM on Home Depot - May 3, 2009

As soon as I assembled it, which was very easy to do, I put it to use. Let's just say, WOW, what an awesome machine. Cleaned great without using any soap. I am glad I spent a little more then I originally was going to because as they say, You get what you pay for. I can't wait until it gets hotter outside so that I can clean my siding. If you are serious about owning a pressure washer, then spend a little more and buy this one.

Ridgid 3000 PSI Pressure Washer
5 Star Review   By reellucky on Home Depot - Apr 29, 2009

This is a great pressure washer. Assembly was a snap. Not one problem except there was more oil in the machine as someone mentioned in another review, so it didn't take the full container. I appreciate the heads up from the reviewer. The machine lives up to its advertisement at the HD at being able to clean +85 sq ft of concrete in 5 minutes. It actually did more. During assembly I could tell it is a high quality outfit as every thing fit well. Cranked on the first pull and everytime since. I am very pleased with it so far. I had a 2500 machine before and this 3000 puts it to shame. I will be using it for 'Handyman' type jobs.

BEST FOR THE $$
5 Star Review   By Travis1NOLA on Home Depot - Apr 22, 2009

With the optional turbo blaster tip this is unstoppable. Starts first time every time awesome. I picked mine up for $325 brand new from my local home depot and could not be happier...HIghly recommended. The only thing I should mention is that I have experienced the leak from the soap selection knob, a 5 cent o-ring solved the problem, a very minor inconvenience for the price and the quality of the rest of the unit.

The best for the money!
5 Star Review   By BravesFan on Home Depot - Apr 19, 2009

I have been looking to purchase a pressure washer for one year. I have researched, and was sure that I wanted a Honda engine. They are awesome, but when i began to research the little know Subaru Robin(in comparison to the Honda)it is outstanding. Couple this with a CAT pump, and you have an outstanding combination. Starts on the first pull everytime, and with 3000 psi make jobs much easier. Pay the extra and get the extra PSI, one more year of warranty, and a commercial pump. Worth every penny!!!

Nice machine
4 Star Review   By philly27 on Home Depot - Apr 18, 2009

Pro: Very nice well built machine for the price range. Was a little nervous about a subaru engine, I prefer Honda. Started first pull out of the box and has ever since. I have run three tanks of gas through it with no problems what so ever. Strong engine, steel braided line with quick disconnect fittings, user friendly wand, oversize wheels. Nice machine. Con: Rear tank soap dispenser leaks and cap has a tendency to pop off if not turned just right. Use the front line soap dispenser. DO NOT add ALL the oil they give you, check it as you fill the crankcase, its a little tricky with the small dipstick. I know this from experience with engines. Overall, I would recommend this machine. I am glad I paid a little more money than the $200-$400 machines out there.

Buy it! It works great!
5 Star Review   By kawiultra99 on Home Depot - Apr 18, 2009

This unit works perfect! It is perfect for the home owner and won't break you bank doing it. Commercial grade motor with 3 year warranty and the best pump(CAT) in the business. Only draw back is the soap switch in the front. I replumbed my unit to draw directly from the tank to the hose, by- passing the switch. Also, the tubing is cheesy. Replace It! Mine was kinked so bad, it would not allow the soap to flow. Oh, I will tell you that this is my second unit. The first unit I purchased was DEAD, right out of the box. Would not run right at all. The second one ran with one pull, right out of the box and has run perfect ever since. Home Depot made the return painless. Great Pressure Washer

Ridgid Pressure Washer
1 Star Review   By CapeDude on Home Depot - Apr 6, 2009

I purchased this machine from HD at a cost of almost $500 with s/h and tax. It is a handsome and heavy built machine with the exception of the soap dispenser valve. Mine arrived with a defective valve, when I filled the soap tank the soap all ran out around the valve handle on the ground. On checking this cheap plastic valve has 3 small "O" rings and one of them had been cut on installation. I called customer service and they mailed me a new valve assy. After assembling it, it still drips a little. Shame they would put such a piece of junk on an otherwise good machine. Now that I have got it reassembled, I can't get it to crank. May be because I left the gas valve on and it flooded, still working on that. Overall, I am quite displeased with the machine, you shouldn't have to deal with problems like this on a new machine that cost what it did
