Unit is well made
4 Star Review   By Patty on Home Depot - Jun 5, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I just moved into a home with its own septic system, and so no garbage disposal. Thought I should give composting a try. I'm a 67 year old grandmother and was able to assemble the unit myself. It took quite a bit of time because of all the screws, but the directions were easy to follow as long as you take it step by step. The top is easy to open for daily additions. Just waiting now to see how it works.

The bin works OK
3 Star Review   By MrDean on Home Depot - Jun 4, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

The first problem I had was there not an instruction manuel inclosed, I had to go on the internet and down load the manuel, which took 25 pages. the other problem was one of the legs corner was bent, that the bin turn on, I had to drill a larger hole for the smaller bold to fit, then the larger bolt just fit at an angle, then the holding pin didn't line up correctly. The bin works ok. Difficult to turn with compost inside.

Compost Bin
3 Star Review   By GardenGal on Home Depot - May 18, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

READ THE LAST PAGE FIRST for information about black nuts!! The final product is working great. The instruction book has wrong letters and is very confusing at times. Be prepared to spend an entire afternoon assembling, it took two adults four to five hours to assemble. There are black nuts (READ THE LAST PAGE FIRST) and the instruction book does not tell you how to use them until the last page, READ THE LAST PAGE FIRST! Overall, be prepared to be frustrated but the final product is semi-worth the time.

Difficult to assemble but easy to operate.
3 Star Review   By barrel on Home Depot - May 14, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

A major piece was defective so had to be replaced. It was replaced with no associated problems. The whole unit was difficult to assemble for someone accustomed to that kind of work. Once assembled, it seems easy to operate.

Hard to rate until we have compost!
5 Star Review   By Bill on Home Depot - May 14, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This composter comes with a 36 page instruction booklet. Actually that is a good thing because the directions are very detailed. It took me 2 weekend afternoons to build (with some distractions). Overall everything proceeded smoothly. It now has yard and vegetation waste with sticks for aeration and Ringer compost maker in it. Now we'll let her simmer, turn and water as necessary. Looking for our first compost in 2 to 3 months.

Excellent Product !!
5 Star Review   By Irish76 on Home Depot - May 7, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This takes some time and patience, but if you work slowly, it flies together without a problem. It does take two people at one point, but it is minimal. The product itself is wonderful. We are already using it and it creates great compost. Easy to spin and looks very impressive in the backyard. A home run product !!

5 Star Review   By Green33 on Home Depot - Apr 30, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

We got exactly what we wanted. We were a little concerned about assembly based on the reviews we read but, we were suprisingly pleased with the instructions and how we were able to assemble it without a hitch. The composter is the size we wanted. Even when it is half full, I (small female) can still turn it without struggling. GREAT choice.

Love the compusting bin
5 Star Review   By Mamma on Home Depot - Feb 5, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Hi- We love the composting bin even though it took 2 college graduates quite a bit of time to put it together. Now that it is together, it looks great and is made of sturdy construction. I like that it is easy to turn and the large door makes it easy to add compost material. Just started composting, and I think it takes a little more effort than just adding left over kitchen scraps. You need a ratio of carbon material (stuff made from trees like leaves, wood chips, newspapers, etc.) and nitrogen material (like food scraps, lawn clippings, etc.) plus some added azomite. Anyway, wish me luck on my new adventure.

Best Compost Tumbler
5 Star Review   By Chris on Home Depot - Jan 16, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This is the best compost tumbler on the market. The top can be removed for easy loading and emptying. The composter is insulated to help maintain a constant temperature. The composter is easy to turn but still has excellent capacity. It takes about two weeks for the temperature to rise to about 140F and then drop to ambient temperatures. The composter still works well after one year and about twelve batches of compost.

Sturdy
4 Star Review   By Squirrelproofer on Home Depot - Jan 15, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Built fairly sturdy. So far has been squirrel proof. The the steel frame was a little warped, resulting in the 2 half-axles not being perfectly aligned. Keeping the axle nuts loose allowed free-rotation, so not a big problem. Required lots of hole drilling in the blow-molded plastic panels. Sections of the steel frame assembled with self-tapping screws, should have been pre-drilled.

4 Star Review   By Sasa on Home Depot - Jan 2, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I love the design and ease of use, however, two of the hing bolts broke when we were putting the compost er together. With one it snapped in half and the other the bolt was stripped when the nut was applied. The company was very responsive and sent me two new bolts right away. I am overall very pleased.

As others have mentioned, assembly will take a little while. If you get satisfaction out of building things yourself, it's a great project. The directions are adequate as long as you can follow pictures. It's working great so far. The first batch is almost ready.

Product is sturdy once properly assembled.
4 Star Review   By Mcdroid on Home Depot - Jan 1, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Needs to be assembled outside or in a large work area. Our primary issue with the product was the misdirections in the schematic instruction manual: It took two intelligent mechanically and spatially aware adults approximately four hours to assemble the unit. You will have issues getting the drilled (DIY) holes to align and you must use the black plastic nuts at the time of assembly, not later, as suggested in the manual. Additionally, the supplied drill bit broke and we came up short with one type of pan-head screw. Although our experience will decrease assembly time in the second purchased unit, we aren't looking forward to it.

Just What I wanted
4 Star Review   By NewtonP on Home Depot - Dec 25, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

It's about as big a tumbler as can easily be turned. The molded panels are double walled with an insulating airspace so it heats up and retains the heat well. My first batch of compost has been brewing about three weeks and seems to fo coming along we'll even with the cool december weather. Make sure t set the screws dead verticle to the panels when you screw the panels together. Otherwise it is difficult to install the nuts. Also, pay attention to which self tapping screws you use. There are two different sizes for the panels and hardware.

Great quality but difficult to put together.
5 Star Review   By Spencer on Home Depot - Dec 19, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Having just purchased the compost tumbler, it seems to be a quality product. The latches that keep the lid closed seem to be sturdy and strong enough and won't open when you rotate the tumbler. Be prepared to drill the holes in the tumbler pieces they are not pre-drilled for you. The drill bit provided broke while doing this. The company should review their directions, not the best. The blowhole plug is labelled one way in the directions and another in the parts list. It took over 3 hrs. to assemble.

It was a little time consuming to put together but the directions were very good. You do need to be careful not to over tighten one type of bolt. We will be ordering a 2nd one shortly. We really wanted two but wanted to make sure we really liked this on first.

Not that easy to assemble. Now we'll see.
3 Star Review   By GreenJohn on Home Depot - Nov 13, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

It took me about five hours to put together. It's only been in use for a few weeks, so it's early for comments on how well it works. It SHOULD work fine; it's a simple device that covers the compost principles. It was expensive, so the main issue will be how well it holds up.

Work in progress
4 Star Review   By Jonathan on Home Depot - Oct 9, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

The tumbler was very simple to assemble. The instructions say that it requires two people, but I was able to put it together by myself. The installation instructions are clear and precise, but there are a lot of pieces/parts to keep track of. As for the performance, I ordered the tumbler in the fall and immediately put my late season grass clippings (which included some leaves) into the composter. Also added a lot of weeds, and since I have had it, I've been adding whatever kitchen waste I have around the house. The composter has been able to handle all of these items and seems to be doing a good job of breaking it all down into usable compost. I think it will be another 3-4 months before it will be broken down completely, but that is mainly because we are getting into the fall/winter here and the compost needs a lot of heat to break down quickly. I'm looking forward to having a large amount of compost to use in the spring!!

Quality Product, Time-Consuming Setup
5 Star Review   By Tripoli on Home Depot - Sep 25, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Like the others have said, this thing takes a while to put together, and it really does require a drill and all the tools it suggests. I didn't need a second person to help me. I'm pretty handy, and it took me about 2 hours to put together. The directions were very good. Once finished, I was very pleased with the quality of it. It seems sturdy, it's large, and it's easy to use.

Sturdy, Easy to use, but hard to put together
4 Star Review   By hope on Home Depot - Sep 15, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Good tools & patience are needed to assemble this composter. I agree with another reviewer that it is easier to put together the box completely and THEN put it on the stand. If you lay the stand on its side, you don't even have to lift the box to put the two together. Now that it is together & working I am very pleased with its ease of use and sturdy design.

great compost tumbler for the price
5 Star Review   By Mimi on Home Depot - Sep 4, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This compost tumbler is very solid and well designed. It sits on a sturdy frame at good height. The locks and hinges seem to work well. With the ease of rotating the tumbler, I can already see my compost breaking down more quickly than it did in my standard plastic bins. The only issue was assembly. Be prepared to spend several hours. There were many parts with poor directions.

This compost tumbler seems to be doing the job.
5 Star Review   By Dawn on Home Depot - Aug 14, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

The tumbler was a little dificult for two elder people to put together. It took us at least 5 hours. After it was together it is great. Put in the twigs, grass clippings, dried leaves, household waste, and some left overs from the garden. It is pretty full and it turns very easily - even for a woman of 78. After about three weeks I deceided to add some compost starter in hopes that I will get good soil for my garden in about 3 months. So far I am really pleased.

5 Star Review   By Hankster on Home Depot - Aug 6, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Having previously purchased a Lifetime building, i expected a well engineered product with good instruction for assembly. I wasn't disappointed. A good drill is essential. My wife was standing by but I did not need the extra hands. Product went together perfectly and after a couple of weeks of composting, seems to be doing its job. This is a clever company.

4 Star Review   By DuPuis on Home Depot - Jul 31, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Well designed piece; assembly was moderately difficult but doable; patience and a little vision helped; would suggest the holes on the inner tumbler pieces not be pre-drilled as the one I made didn't line up with the ones on the pieces that formed the outer shell; drill bit provided with unit broke on first application; now we'll see how effective it is at producing compost!

Love that it's on a stand, no bending to empty scaps etc, and rotates fairly easily. Looks fine by the garden shed and no complaints from the neighbors. It is placed near the garden so discards can be tossed right in the tumbler. Price was right and quality seems to be okay. Time will tell.

4 Star Review   By ssgreenthumb on Home Depot - Jun 5, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Took almost 3 hours to assemble. The pivot point brackets of the frame required numerous gradual grindings to make the holes line up. Took close to an hour to do that job with out trimming the brackets to still have support and line up the holes for the bolts. Glad I had tools to perform that job. Should recheck your jigs at factory. My mother still liked it for Mothers Day

5 Star Review   By DrGreenThumb on Home Depot - May 21, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

first year complete, and had about 40-50 lbs, of rich compost for the garden. We also cut our curbside waste, by at least 50%. Great for the garden, and the environment! FYI, give yourself about 2 hours of "build time" to put this composter together. AND unless you have double doors to carry the bin through to your yard, you should definitely build the bin outside.

Very strudy

This thing can handle a lot of weight, many of the other composter designs cannot. Even some top rated ones have problems with doors opening and the metal stand collapsing under full load. Not this one, as every component is about as strong as it can be made. As an engineer I also appreciate the details like covers on the points of screws going into the barrel. It took me a couple of hours to put it together by myself but two people is their recommended construction crew. The instructions are well written - read them.

Works very well, a little hard to assemble. Needs two people working together.

Compost made easy and faster than ever!!!

The easy to put together instructions were about 3 hours of hard work, but in the end I would have worked twice as hard for this product! The rotating ability is wonderful, the hight off the ground is perfect, and the entry point in quite accessible. I have added some of that Inocucor microbial solution to it, and in just 4 weeks it seems I am almost finished with my first batch!! This system is wonderful.

Composter easy to use
5 Star Review   By GatorTom on Home Depot - Jan 27, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I've had mine for nearly a year and am very satisfied. Some reviews from another store sale mentioned rusting of some hardware so I painted all metal parts with two coats of Rustolium paint before assembly and have been pleased with the results. Assembly takes some time and effort--a couple hours in my case--but was not difficult with careful reading of the instructions. My only minor complaint is that the unit is slightly too low--about four inches to low-- to fully allow my wheelbarrow under it for dumping out finished compost but one can get the wheelbarrow close enough for pulling compost out of the side opening into the barrow with a hand trowel. The unit appears well made and still looks new after the year out in the weather in my back yard, and four loads of compost.
