The best small Tiller
5 Star Review   By Donald on Home Depot - Jun 12, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

My tiller is small but it sure has a big heart Honda makes a strong machine, cuts through roots, and picks up pretty large rocks. I've got about 4 - 5 hours on tiller so we'll see what the future will bring, so far so good.

Watch that CARB compliant gas cap!
5 Star Review   By Farmerphil on Home Depot - Jun 7, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Fired up and ran great. Really throws the dirt. A super cultivator. Then after about 15 minutes, the engine died. Suspecting it was a gas tank vapor lock problem (my just replaced 2cycle had the same problem) I loosened the cap, heard the air rushing in clearing the vacuum. Ran another 10 minutes and the same thing happened. Honda service center charged me for a new cap. When I explained this to Home Depot, their customer service reimbursed me for the cap on my 1-day old Honda tiller. I really appreciated that and will continue to look to Home Depot for my needs. That night I closely examined the defective cap and found the exterior air hole was never drilled open. Honda should inspect and vacuum test their gas caps. Apparently this is a common problem with new units going into service. Thanks Home Depot!

Great cultivator but parts limited
5 Star Review   By Mike on Home Depot - Jun 4, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I have owned this product for several years and it has been a great product. However, last year the tines locked up at the end of the gardening season. This spring I took it to the dealer for inspection and repair and found out that the transmission had locked up. The transmission is no longer available as a unit and you are required to purchase the separate parts to replace the transmission. This raises labor cost + the cost of the parts is within $50 of just buying a new cultivator. I will have a spare engine though which still runs like new!

Deceptively small
4 Star Review   By PxStorm on Home Depot - May 30, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

At first glance, this is a VERY small tiller. Pull the cord and it sounds ridiculously quiet. Pull the throttle... and there is an unexpected amount of power. I read the reviews and have to agree that this tiller is bigger on the inside than on the outside. I've used it to clear large, old flower beds that had been let go for years it is stoodup to the challenge. After a few hours of use, some vegetation and stray bits of old weed blocker had wrapped around the axle. it only took a few minutes to remove the tines and clear the debris. The only issue I have is that at high throttle it seems to give out on occasion. That being said, I'm still extremely pleased. I was also surprised to see that a series of attachments are available. I'll definately be checking them out.

The dang cotter pins keep falling out.
4 Star Review   By craig on Home Depot - May 23, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I've only had this thing 1 season, but I'm getting a good amount of use out of it. Starts up on the first pull every time, and I'm happy to say that because I haven't ever been able to say that about a lawn tool that I've owned before. Haven't had any overheating issues. I'm happy I sprung for this model. The only thing that stops work early, is that the dang cotter pins keep falling out (or they break?), and once they're out they're impossible to find, the blades fall off. Bummer. I've probably used this machine 7 times, I'd say 20 hours total, and I'd bet I've gone .through 12 cotter pins. They go in tight. I don't know what the problem is. Happens on both sets of blades.

Honda quality
5 Star Review   By Wolf on Home Depot - May 21, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I was in the marked for a tiller and was looking for a reliable workhorse, easy to operate, start, and above all with a quality engine. Having had a Honda lawn mower for the last 25 years, snow blower for the last 20 both w/o any problems I thought I can not go wrong sticking with Honda. So far the tiller is everything I expected. Starts at the first pull, easy to operate, seams well made, is quite yet powerful, even with its comparatively small 25cc engine. Time will tell if its as long lasting as its older mates, but I think with a Honda engine the odds are in my favor.

If you garden, you will love this one!
5 Star Review   By Jackie on Home Depot - May 21, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Had another lightweight, small tiller for 11 years but it was hard to start and we had to mix gas and oil. When it died we learned about this 4-stroke engine that required no mixing and supposedly was easy to start. TRUE. Turn it on, pull once or twice and it's humming along! As a gal, I can truly say it's easy to use, move around, control, etc. Plus it is much quieter than our old tiller and really breaks up our clay and shale soil. Never dig another hole, just use this Honda tiller and it'll do the work for you! The only fault I have is that the on/off switch is at the top of the handle where you hold the device. One bump and you've turned it off. Needs better positioning away from the handle. There are other 4-stroke models out there with a Honda engine (I suspect it's the same one rebranded), but it is generally $100 more! BUY THIS ONE FROM HOME DEPOT!

Perfect for us
5 Star Review   By TNFLRES on Home Depot - May 14, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

When shopping for a small tiller, my husband said he only wanted a Honda, because of the quality of Honda products. I was happy to find the perfect one at Home Depot. He loves it and it has made his garden tilling and planting much easier than in past years. Our ground is hard to dig, and my husband is 84 and was having trouble handling the work, but the Honda tiller digs right in, making holes for tree planting and keeping the weeds out of the rows in the garden. He has no trouble carrying it around or tilling with it because of its small size. We will have a bountiful garden this year because we bought this tiller.

Tough, efficient, light weight, yet powerful.
5 Star Review   By Happy on Home Depot - May 12, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

We bought this based on the reviews, and for the home gardener, its an absolute must have. Unpacked the machine, did a cursory read of the owners manual, added 10W-30 oil, added fuel, removed the transport wheels (which are very convenient) and away we went. The tiller fired up on the first pull which is not surprising considering its a Honda. We also own a Honda lawn mower and they just seem to build quality products year after year. The tiller takes a little while to get used to. The only con I have is that it needs a little weight on the blades. If the ground is dry and hard-packed, the tiller tends to catch on the hard ground and lurch forward so you have to hold on! Lots of power and will till right through small diameter roots and small rocks with absolute ease. I had it set to till 6 inches and this little thing digs in and does a wonderful job of tilling.Big plus is the 4 cycle engine, lots of power and no need to mix oil/gas. Very efficient and lots of power. No problems restarting the engine after breaks, refueling, etc...You will not be disappointed!

Indispensable garden tool
5 Star Review   By star on Home Depot - May 3, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

When the engine on my 5 year old FG110 froze up (despite fresh oil), I was devastated. This tiller is indispensable for me. It is more than a tiller. Besides tilling, I use it for edging and most of all, to turn my compost heap into beautiful soil. There was nothing to do but to buy another one. I was glad to see it basically remained the same as the old one. It was perhaps somewhat easier to start now. One light pull and it started. It possibly is also somewhat quieter. A great machine! No comparison with the Mantis that I owned prior to the first Honda. One unnecessary feature is the dragging stake and moving wheels. I have yet to use it with either tiller. I wish they would eliminate that and reduce the price by $50.

It's a Honda. How can you go wrong?
5 Star Review   By PatriotGardener on Home Depot - Apr 27, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

In the case of this tiller, size does not matter. I was apprehensive at first, only because of its small size. But after reading the all of the negative reviews of other, larger tillers, I decided to try it out. I am impressed. Though it is smaller than I'd like, I know I'll be able to get large garden plots tilled efficiently with this machine. I will say that, working this boney NH soil, it does bounce a bit. I would imagine any tiller would in this soil which is full of large rocks. I've also had a few rocks get stuck in the tines, but they are easy to knock out with a shovel handle with no damage done to the machine. Again, I think this would occur with any tiller. I know from years of experience that Honda products (especially engines) are the most reliable on the market. Buy it. The price may seem a bit steep at first, but trust me, it will last for many years - thus making it cheaper in the long run.

The best I've ever owned!
5 Star Review   By GAGardeningGal on Home Depot - Apr 14, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I've owned other cultivators over the years, but this is the best I've ever owned. I love the fact that it's a 4 cycle cultivator, and there is no mixing of oil and gas like you find with other cultivators that might be cheaper. Believe me, this cultivator is definitely worth the price. It's easy to operate, and it's very durable. I've had mine for 5 years now, and it's still going strong. It's enabled me to have some of the most beautiful gardens I've ever had without killing myself weeding them by hand. I would give this product 10 stars if I could. I recommend this Honda cultivator to all gardeners. If mine should ever give out, I'll buy another one just like it. Yes, it's that good.

A Mini Powerhouse
5 Star Review   By gardenia99 on Home Depot - Apr 7, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Just bought this tiller and I love it! It is sturdy and well constructed. The tiller was able to cut through grass where I established new vegetable beds. Although powerful, I was able to handle it with ease. It starts with little effort. Because of its size, it is easy to store in my garage without taking up valuable space. I think I will add the accessories in the near future.

Good, but too high$$
4 Star Review   By aedkirk on Home Depot - Apr 1, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

It was hard to start the first time. It smoked the first couple of times I used it but it was probably my fault I may have put too much oil. But it works great now, I love it its easy to start now and doesn't smoke. My garden looks great. Its about $100 to high for such a small tiller. But I am happy with it I just hope it last for many years. I rated it GOOD because I've only had it for about 2 weeks. Don't buy the ones that home depot leaves out in the rain! The one I bought was inside and I had to have the sales guy print out the manual. It says in the manual that it comes with oil but Home Depot must have kept it. I would say buy it.

Amazed at power and durability
5 Star Review   By GBinPlano on Home Depot - Mar 29, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I needed a smallish tiller/cultivator to renovate a 10' x 30' section of my Dallas area yard. This Honda chewed up the clumps of rock-hard clay with little effort on my part. It went on to mix amendments into that clay so smoothly that the resultant soil looked like landscaper mix in the expensive bags at garden centers. One caveat - the choke has three positions, fully open, partially open and closed. To prevent occasional stalling, I found that the partially open position was best. It allows the engine to run a bit richer and not bog down when under heavy load. In fact, there were times that the tines stopped turning but the engine was still trying. (Of course I backed off the throttle when that happened!)

Best Rototiller EVER especially for the small home gardener!
5 Star Review   By Mikey on Home Depot - Mar 18, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Bought this for my small home garden. I have a few small patches of dirt ranging from 4x20 to 10x10. I wanted to make my gardens ready for fruits/vegetables and didn't want it to take to much time. Obviously with a large rototiller it would be more of hassle. Then I found the Honda 110.....wow what a machine...you think to yourself....how could this small machine possible due much of anything but let me tell you it's just like the large heavy rototillers but lighter and smaller and yet it still turns up that dirt! I always heard how good honda engines were but never really owned one and now I see what they say this this can be started with a slightest pull. It fits nicely in my shed and hardly takes up any room. So this past week I let my neighbor borrow it so that he can start his garden and when he was done he told me how amazed he was on how well it worked *And this is his first time using such a thing! He liked it so much he told the wife he wants one for fathers day! lol. So if your thinking about getting one for a small home garden do yourself a favor and by a machine like this.....it's one of the Top 5 purchases that I've made in a while.

SIMPLE, TOUGH, EFFICIENT!
5 Star Review   By George on Home Depot - Feb 27, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

“SIMPLE, TOUGH, EFFICIENT”, the writing on the box, it is 100% true. SIMPLE – an easy starting (with priming, too) and quiet engine + a sealed worm type gear box in a perfect match with the engine + two (in a heart bit removable) tines on both sides of the gear box (a total of four) driven by assuring sized shafts. TOUGH – uprooting rocks (half the diameter of the tines) or bouncing off the bigger ones, cutting tree roots up to half inch in diameter or bouncing off the larger ones – no damage to the tines or stalling engine. There is no clumps of soil/grass to stand up to it either. EFFICIENT-imagine having a hundred gophers at your service. It is my first review and it is because of the FG110K1AT SN FAAA1345467 bought about a week ago. I used so far around the fruit trees and it is a beauty. I mark a circle around the tree, I place the tiller next to the line, I start the engine, and I commence tilling at high rpm going around the tree. As I come close to the trunk I reduce the speed so the tines will not go as deep as with the engine in high rpm. At this time of the year (February),despite being wet, it is a pleasure to rake the soil after tilling it with this little wonder. Read the instructions, practice by tilting forward/backward or pushing/pulling it and you will find out that it is not at all hard to control it. Have fun!

I had to laugh when i saw the engine was only 25cc but when i hit the throttle i was surprised at how it dug in.Of course it did bounce a little when it hits hard clay but that is to be expected coz it only weighs 20 lbs.It will tear up some earth for such a small machine.I don't regret buying.

If only everything worked this well.
5 Star Review   By Lakelizard on Home Depot - Jan 28, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I was very skeptical when searching for a mini tiller. I have a large walk behind that does great. But does not get into small places which I was interested in doing. Honda was not my first choice but after reviewing motors. The 4 cycle quiet Honda motor was the only clear choice. It is easy starting, easy to pull and quiet untill you hit the throttle. And then that tiller comes alive like a racehorse out of the gate. It digs way deeper than my big tiller ever thought about. And I have always been impressed with my big tiller. If I had purchased this Honda tiller first. I would only have one the Honda. It is a workhorse. And I have a very good size garden. Gets around my fruit trees and pavestones easily. I even dug out a few stumps in my yard and cut them off below ground level where I could easily mow. What a treat. So quit goofing off. In the time it took you to surf through these reviews you could have tilled your garden.

Great multi-purpose platform.
5 Star Review   By kap1 on Home Depot - Sep 25, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This little Honda is a really nice multi-purpose platform. The ground in my yard hasn't been worked in many years, yet this unit has the power to dig it up without running at full speed. Below ground rocks and tree roots will cause some bucking so you do need to hold on, but the transmission is obviously tough enough to take it. The cultivator, edger, and aerator tins all performed very well in my hard-packed ground with no issues. I did not purchase the digging tins or de-thatcher kits because these seemed to be a bit pricy. Any good discount for these would tip my decision to buy.

Ok...so this is a replacement tiller for my mantis which finally bit the dust. I had such a hard time starting my mantis. But this Honda has a motor that purrs instead of a high pitched whine! Yea 4 stroke engine! It went through my garden rows like butter even though my weeds were big. I am very happy with it. I would have given a 5 on features; but pull engines are always hard for me to yank. I wish they had a key turn! : )

Not working
1 Star Review   By slant on Home Depot - Jul 18, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This is my second Honda tiller and am not happy with either one. The first one I had for 4 years, with limited use, I had to toss it because it did not have full power and very hard to start. I purchsed another honda so I could finish my garden. I worked great for the first year, but started having trouble. It was very hard to start, and kept dying on me, but managed to work it out for awhile, but got to the point where it would not start, if I get it started after many tries, it died within a few seconds. My husband replaced all the parts, spark plug, fuel filter, oil change, etc. but still could not get it working and had to take it to HomeDepot repair shop.

Does a good job
4 Star Review   By Tony on Home Depot - Jul 17, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Its a light machine, so it's easy to maneuver, but because it's light, it gets bounced around by the small roots and rocks. It's a sturdy lightweight that handle most jobs, you just might need to keep a small pick/hatchet with you to take care of the unforeseen obstacles.

5 Star Review   By safeTman on Home Depot - Jul 10, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I purchased the Honda Gas Mini Tiller-Cultivator for my 79 year old father to replace an electric version that was too weak and a Troy Built that was too large for him to handle. The Honda started on the very first pull and ran perfectly throughout the project. The only negative which is minute was that the tines did not have a reverse to disperse the vines and larger materials that became tangled on the tines but the unit is light enough to pick it up to remove the entanglements. May not be quite what you need for larger corn and melon patches but worked great on the 12' x 18' raised beds from corner to corner without beating up the operator.

The perfect tiller for all purpose home use.
5 Star Review   By Mary on Home Depot - Jun 27, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

The FG110 is a pleasure to use. It is well designed and very tough. Because it is so light, it will jump on hard soil until it can get digging. It will easily dig 10"-12" leaving you with pulverized soil. I'm gardening in heavy clay. I'm so impressed with how this machine works, I couldn't wait to write a review. But understand, it depends on what you expect and what you need. I have a small garden (20'x20') so this tiller is perfect. I would have no problem going much larger with my garden and using this tiller. Traditional tillers are very heavy so they don't jump around, usually. The benefit of a tiller you can easily carry with one hand is something I like

First Tiller
4 Star Review   By HDJIM on Home Depot - Jun 20, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This is my first tiller. I have used other smaller tillers such as the mantis & a craftsman. This unit was easier to start & has some extra options you can purchase. The only downfall was when it hit untilled earth, it bogged down / stalled out. Since the unit is not really designed for that, I cant hold it at fault for that.

Excellent little tiller, Best on the market, period.
5 Star Review   By hayseed on Home Depot - Jun 17, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I have a very large garden and have used a few tillers in the past, and this is by far the best. Better than the popular 2 stroke mant.s, and way better than the cheaper front tine tillers. Plenty of power, very easy to start and use. Throw out the wheels, works much better without them on. Hand sized rocks slow you down, as they get stuck, but once all the rocks are gone, this thing is a beast. I have very hard, rocky soil that dries up quick and about 2 acres of garden, and it takes about 2 hours and 3 tanks of gas to "weed" between rows after 1 month of not touching it after planting. Will even cut through established sod, although it takes some doing. Also, very easy for my 90 pound wife to use. This is an awesome tiller, money well spent, does exactly what it should, and since it's a honda, should last forever.

Outstanding machine
5 Star Review   By MarkinMichigan on Home Depot - May 31, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I thought my Mantis mini tiller was a pretty darn good machine, but the motor finally died. I bought this Honda FG110 and now I see that the Mantis is nothing but a toy compared to the power and quality of the Honda. Easy out of the box setup (wife trained me to read instructions), Starts with single pull (if you read instructions), idles quietly, and when you hit the throttle, it plows through and mixes dirt quickly (I mean seconds) and easily (no bouncing and/or overheating like my old Mantis) . This machine outperforms my old Mantis 10 to 1. I am actually looking forward to roto tilling more often, and will use the Honda for cultivating and weeding with the ability to take off the outer tines and fit into 6 inch rows. If you are not sure (like I was) which mini tiller to buy, I would suggest that you put this Honda at the top of your list.

Small but capable.
5 Star Review   By Eman on Home Depot - May 15, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I purchased this for my wife who is small and could not run a bigger tiller. This tiller will dig just as good as bigger tiller but only does 9" rows at a time. We have a large garden around 20x24 feet and this has been used to till the whole thing and expand it a bit this year. The plus for me is that my wife can now do the tilling and I can do other things while she is in the garden. We also got this for weed control between the rows and being small it should be perfect for this. My only complaint is that we have had it get a rock jammed between the tines and the bottom of the guard. This will stop it dead in it's tracks and can take some muscle to get the jammed rock out. It has only happened about 3 times so it is not a big deal but it never happened with the bigger tiller we had used before. Overall I surprised at the power this little thing packs and would recommend it.

4 Star Review   By oldman on Home Depot - May 6, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Just used it to till next to my garden plants. Does a great job, Be sure to hold on to the handles good, when you hit a rock it tends to jump up, I only use maybe 1/2 throttle when cutting grass between rows. It does everything I want it to. I have a large tiller, can not see where the tines are, with this one you can see the tines with ease. Cost a little more, but worth it.

2 Star Review   By Boss3365 on Home Depot - Apr 30, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Honda is the absolute most over rated company in the world! Shame on me for continuing to try their products. Like all Honda motors, it started on the first pull. That's where the good ends. After 3 minutes of use it shut off. It would start again but then die after a minute of use. My $800 Honda lawn mower cant come close to the new John Deere I just bought. And the Honda weed whacker cant feed its own line. BUY ECHO or TORO or JOHN DEERE.

I've had this machine for about a month now. Using it mainly to dig up some old landscaping that is over a foot high of hard, packed earth. The power this has to grind up the soil is amazing. Starts easy, sips gas, and if needed the tines can be slid off to clear a stuck rock - which my yard has loads of - easily. No problems, no complaints, would buy one again without hesitation.

I already have an existing garden so I only need a machine to work up the ground every spring. This is the machine! A great little workhorse. Easy to use. Light weight. It may be pricey but "you get what you pay for." We do lots of narrow border planting each year along privacy fences. With a narrow swath, this machine works great in those tight areas. Very satisfied user. Purchased at Home Depot.

Great motor and tilling capacity, CHEAP wheels to transport
4 Star Review   By Firegirl on Home Depot - Apr 24, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I bought this to replace my Black and Decker cordless tiller that was just weak and too time consuming to use. The pros of the Honda are a strong gas powered motor that has the power to till a 500 square foot garden in under an hour (as opposed to the day-long affair it was with Black and Decker), the tiller is fully assembled in the box and has clear instructions for how to start it. Handles are wide-set and cushioned for tough job comfort. Tines are sturdy and easy to clean. You also don't have to mix the oil and fuel, which is fantastic! Overall, I'm VERY pleased with this $400 purchase. The cons are limited to the cheap plastic attached wheels to transport the tiller. You have to manually remove them while tilling, involves removing a locking pin, and then have to clean the drag bar adequately to reattach the wheels and locking pin when you are done. It's difficult to steer this thing and quite honestly, I gave up on the wheels after the second use and just use the starting handle to carry the thing. Starting it is a bit awkward, but it starts easily enough.

Have had this machine for two years. After mixing gas and oil for many years, I saw this macine at Home Depot. Had to have it. I am 70 years of age and have had two other small tillers which the oil and gas had to be mixed. Being a 4 cycle engine, the mixing of oil and gas is eliminated. This makes this machine far superior, to the two cycle units. Ease of use describes this Honda Tiller. Have nothing but praise for this machine. I HIGHLY recommend this Honda product.

5 Star Review   By GreenThumb on Home Depot - Apr 16, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

After having a frustrating time weeding and turning over our vegetable garden of about 30 * 20 ft, I broke down one night and researched mini-tillers.. Having looked at electric ones like Sun Joe, or even the Mantis 2 stroke ones, the reliability of Honda engines and quality sold me !. I had dealt with 2 stroke engines from a Ryobi before and didn't care for them This one is about 29 pounds and in about 10 minutes after getting it, I loaded it up with the oil, filled up gasoline, I was up and running. About 30-40 minutes later, I was done with the garden !. The Engine is smooth and works awesome. ! The tilling is very nice. If some branches or something gets stuck, piece of cake to remove the tines and detangle !. Even my 10 year old could remove the clavis pin and pull them out and reassemble them I am specially looking forward to being able to cultivate down to 5 inch width between vegetable beds and deal with weeds !. You can easily do this by removing the outer tines !.

Honda FG110 Mini-Tiller
1 Star Review   By Ironmonkey on Home Depot - Apr 11, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I bought this tiller after reading all of the positive reviews and owning several other honda products that seem to be of the upmost quality. I removed the tiller from the box, filled the crankcase to the proper level with the oil that was included in the box, filled gas tank with fresh fuel, and primed the carburetor with primer bulb. I had to pull on the starter about 30 times till it fired for the first time, then about ten more times till it started and stayed running. The tiller smoked like a freight train for the first two or three minutes but idled well. Sum smoke at startup of a new motor can be normal because of the assembly grease that they use at the factory when assembling a new motor but this one seemed to be a bit excessive. After the smoke cleared out I started to till one of my small garden spots that is about 8' x 8' that has been used for the three previous years and is fairly loose soil. The tiller ran as expected for 20 minutes then died. I checked the gas and it was still full as expected it to be, and I checked the oil in the crankcase and it was to the proper level as I also expected it to be. I then pulled on the starter and it fired up and idled just fine, I gave it some gas and it ran for ten seconds then died, I did this about 30 times with tines in the dirt and the tines up out of the dirt and nothing would work. After this I let the tiller cool down to the outdoor temperature and tried it again, it ran as expected for about 20 minutes then died and the same thing started all over again. I boxed the tiller back up and returned to Home Depot and they gave me a full refund with no problems.

Excellent mini tiller
5 Star Review   By KittyVOG on Home Depot - Mar 27, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I have owned - and worked to death - two brand-name mini tillers, and I was a little apprehensive about purchasing a 4-cycle machine. After using the Honda to till compost into a 500 sf bed (clay soil), cultivate a raised bed that was 3' in diameter and break sod in a new ornamental border, I'm glad that I did. Unlike other minis, this machine doesn't buck and jump around. The tilling depth goes to a full 8" and the cultivator tines are simple to remove for narrow rows and between-plant cultivation, something I've already done in my asparagus bed. The website says that assembly takes 15 minutes - it took 5, including filling the crankcase with oil, filling up with gas and priming the engine. It is a quick-starting machine as well. All in all, I believe this machine is a user-friendly workhorse and a great investment.

This is the best tiller I have ever seen. Small enough to fit inside the small rows and spaces and so fast that you can do two passes per row with fine control (read in - not hitting the crops) in less time it takes to make one run with a large tiller. Excellent construction, tough, and motor crank every time first pull. Amazing product!

Just got this, so this review is based on initial use, not long term reliability. This thing rocks! Super easy to start, super quiet, and super powerful. These mini 4 stroke Honda engines cannot be beat. I've owned a trimmer for about 4 years with this engine and ease of start and torque are unsurpassed. If you're still buying 2 stroke power equipment, you are a smelly, polluting chump. Really unbelievably what this small machine does to unbroken ground. It is a monster. I've rented Mantis mini tillers every year for the last 3 years. This thing blows those away.

Not only turns the ground, but at high speeds ;"fluffs" it to make ourstanding planting beds. We were thinking a larger one, but this little badger is all you need. I owned the prior model Honda Harmony 100 Mini Tiller for 5 years and loved it until the transmission went out after limited usage. Local dealer said it would cost a minimum of $250. to repair so I told them to throw it in the trash, Dealer also said this was a known problem, but supposedly the newer models are designed better. I wouldn't recommend buying a Honda mini tiller for this reason

Excellent mini-tiller!
5 Star Review   By MikeInDFW on Home Depot - Nov 5, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I bought this mini-tiller after reading reviews of many different mini-tillers on the market. There are certainly cheaper options, but the Honda name, and my father's praise of Honda small engines in general, plus the large number of positive reviews here swayed me. Excellent choice! I got it home, and it started right up with no problem. I proceeded to tear through some freshly dug vegetable gardens in my backyard. This tiller handled my heavy clay soil here in Dallas without a problem. Next I wanted to lay pavestones around my flower beds. This would normally require using a shovel to dig up the bermuda grass that goes up to my flower beds, and then spend forever trying to get the stones level. I used a shovel to break the heavy grass, then immediately went over it with the tiller. It did a great job chewing through the clumps of clay soild and bermuda grass, and left me a fine soil that was easy to smooth out for the pavestones. I highly recommend this tiller!

We love it! It is perfect for the size of my yard & garden.

It is so easy to use! It is not so heavy that an old lady like me can't handle it. The online video was what convinced me that this machine is the perfect one for me: Light, No assembly required. Easy to handle. It does a great job! Luv it!

This product is built very well
5 Star Review   By RobW on Home Depot - Oct 22, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I did not need a big tiller and this size is perfect. very lightweight and easy to star up. the only time consuming thing i found is when vines and stringy brush get caught in the augers, but this probably with every tiller. great product, easy assembly and easy to store when finished. I used it in clay/silt style dirt and it ate it up like nothing. It tosses baseball size rocks like nothing. Great machine you can't go wrong!! Shipping with Home Depot as flawless. The package was delivered the very next day.

Great Mini Tiller
5 Star Review   By HappyCustomer on Home Depot - Oct 18, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This tiller has plenty of power, is very quiet. I used it to prep several large sections of the yard, before seeding. This last weekend I installled the de-thatch attachment and it worked just as well as a dedicated one. I'm very happy with this purchase.

The engine died within 15 minutes
1 Star Review   By BertGF on Home Depot - Sep 27, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

It worked as advertised for about 15 minutes. After that whenever i increased the throttle speed it stopped running. when i poured out the gas as preparation for returning the tiller it had a blue green color cast. i think somehow the oil had gotten into the gas.

Great Tiller!
5 Star Review   By SoCal on Home Depot - Sep 20, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Easy to set up and run. Very well built. Have used probably for 4 hours now and no problems except I need to clean the air filter. Starting is easy if you follow directions. Prime. Put choke on and pull two times. Take choke off and pull to start. Allow engine to run for maybe 20 seconds to warm up and you are good to go! Love my Honda mower and Line trimmer as well.

I expected better
2 Star Review   By Edward on Home Depot - Jul 26, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I was shopping around for a small tiller for my raised beds and the reviews about the Honda seemed quite good. Being an engineer the one thing I worried about was the fairly insignificant tines. I was assured that they would hold up and were actually guaranteed for life against breakage. I have had the tiller for three years now and it does a great job on my eight 4’X8’ raised beds, that being said it probably has a total of 4 hours on it. I sifted all of the dirt in the beds myself and the rest would be horse manure, so there was a minimal amount of rocks. The second year a tine snapped on a rock about the size of a quarter. I went to the “authorized” dealer and they ordered me a new one at no charge. During that visit I asked about the fact that the tiller smokes a lot during use. They said that was normal and not to worry about it (I only bring this up because it seems strange). The third year I broke another tine but this time the tine did not break into two pieces instead it bent it so severely that it gouged a deep grove in the aluminum gear case and stopped the tiller from running. I went to a different “authorized” dealer this time since the last one gave me so much grief for buying it at home depot. He told me they were not covered for life and he couldn’t help me. I half expected them to replace the gear cover along with the defective tine but instead I got nothing. I called Honda and they explained to me that even though the tine was bent to the point that the tiller did not run that it was not “broken” since it was not in two pieces. I have several brands of gas powered yard equipment but this was the first Honda I had bought and it probably will be the last. I take care of the equipment I buy because I expect them to last. Even though I have only used this machine for 4 hours I have changed the oil, the plug, cleaned the air filter and filled the gear case with grease. I does a pretty good job on the gardens when it is working but I expected it to hold up better.

A Beast
5 Star Review   By Jay08 on Home Depot - Jul 20, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Got this machine last week, and boy what a beast, ripped up the hard soil, digged up rocks the size of a baseball, here in north eastern PA, what a machine, can't go wrong with this purchase, light weight and heavy duty. Great product again from Honda, shipping was fast.

Don't let the size fool you!
5 Star Review   By Dawgfan on Home Depot - Jul 10, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Although it may be small, the power is by far more than enough. I have a 22'x30' area that had been a garden a long time ago, but had been neglected. I cleared the brush and weeds, then tried to till by hand, but I'm not as young as I used to be, so I knew I needed help. I didn't want to get a big machine, but I needed something that would work, and this baby works! It was able to cut through the packed soil easily and quickly! Even as my garden grows, I'm able to cultivate between the rows with ease! I even tilled up an area alongside the house for a rose garden for the wife, which she loves. It's light enough to pick up and move, but powerful enough to get the job done. I like that I don't have to mix the fuel, the size is perfect. The price was a little more than I wanted to spend, but with the time and ease of use, this little Honda is worth every penny.

Full Till
5 Star Review   By Bobwoodwork on Home Depot - Jul 3, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I have owned several tillers over the past 30 years of all makes and configurations. Due to my aging back I have gone to raised beds and this little tiller makes quick work of turning them over. It came out of the box ready to go and starts quickly. It is light but powerful. I can easily move it from one bed to another with one hand and do not use the rather clunky transport wheels it came with. I read the reviews and agree that a little higher price was worth the investment.

Does not know it is small ...
5 Star Review   By Bim22 on Home Depot - Jun 24, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I read the review of the gentleman from California that said this little baby would dig through hard clay and went and bought one. My wife laughed at me and told me it was a nice looking toy; my wife and I both got fooled. This little baby does not know she is small. She digs better than the big ones I have had and is easy to handle. I do have to say that someone from Honda has had a tiller and grass wrapping problems because they made this unit so the tines come off by pulling a pin to clean the wrapped grass or weeds out in a jiffy. A very nice unit at a reasonable price for the quality you are buying.

One tough little machine
5 Star Review   By mountainman on Home Depot - Jun 23, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I just purchased this tiller a week ago. Well balanced and a real power house. Starts on the first pull everytime. That is amazing. I also purchased an alcohol gas additive recommended by the man who helped me at the store. The Fisher farm store also recommended that I buy a foam filter cleaner and foam filter oil (like MOTUL) from a motorcycle store, which I did. The Honda foam filter comes with a special oil in it, which doesn't come out with regular soap. About a $16 investment. In reading other comments about this tiller, I hope to avoid future problems by doing it right. OVERALL- I am very pleased with this little hard working machine. I didn't intend to use it to till up some already tilled areas of the garden, but it was just too easy, and I didn't have to break out the big Bolens hydraulics. We have close to 1/4 acre of garden, so this saves hours of hoeing and weeding.

This is a small tiller, but it is really a BEAST!!!
5 Star Review   By Grandmoogie1 on Home Depot - Jun 13, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I can't speak to putting the tiller together out of the box because my husband did that for me. It seemed easy and straightforward though. This rototiller really lived up to our expectations of a Honda. Our two garden spaces are small (15'x15' each), but the "soil" has a lot of clay. That, combined with us not having access to a rototiller for the last 3 years, made it more like cement than soil. That didn't stop this rototiller. It took a while, but this tiller chopped up and turned this "cement" plus the soil amendments I added, into very workable, nice garden soil. It was easy to start, easy to add more gasoline, and easy to remove the tines to remove the weeds which had wrapped around the axle. The only thing I had a small problem with was the on/off knob was too close to the hand holds, where my right hand bumped it from on to off a few times.

Perfect for small garden
5 Star Review   By PAPA5 on Home Depot - Jun 11, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

After reviewing many tllers, I decided on this product, due to its managable size and weight. It has good power and did a wonderful job in our yard. The soil was broken up well and will be used monthly to control weeds. I'm very pleased with my purchase.

I am a believer!
5 Star Review   By Kenny337 on Home Depot - Jun 11, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This purchase wasn’t an easy decision. I’m the kind of person that has to research this kind of purchase FOREVER! All of the reviews on this site were a big help and ultimately the deciding factor. This little tiller blew me away on all levels. I have been a Honda fan for over 20 years and this tiller just firmed that up. The power, ease of starting and operating, and the ease of maintenance of the 4-stroke engine are spot on. This tiller out performs the Mantis on all levels. I was originally considering a much larger rear tine tiller originally because of the size of my garden. After having had a chance to use this tiller, I am very glad that I didn’t spend the extra money. Obviously my total tilling time will take longer but with the power of this tiller, I am totally convinced that I won’t have any trouble getting the job done. Plus I now have the ability to maintain the garden throughout the year by using the Honda as a cultivator. I highly recommend this tiller to anyone considering the purchase.

Better than the Mantis
5 Star Review   By JAS1234 on Home Depot - Jun 5, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I have been a long time user of the Mantis mini-tiller. This year out Mantis was damamged by a rock that broke a hole in the lower gear box. I had to choose between trying to buy a replacement gear housing or a whole new tiller. I looked up the selection at Home Depot and looked through the reviews. After seeing all the positive reviews on the Honda I decided to try one instead of fixing the Mantis. WOW ! Am I glad I did ! The honda has seems to have just as much power as the Mantis did. The 4 cycle engine is nice to have because now I dont have to worry about mixing two cycle fuel. But the main thing I noticed is that the hondas tiller tines arrangement does not get jammed up with rocks like the Mantis did. This little Honda tills the pants off the Mantis. Two thumbs up from me ! Joel
