Great little chain saw.
5 Star Review   By momof3 on Home Depot - Nov 17, 2012

I bought this last Christmas (2011) for my husband. The price was right and it got great reviews. It is powerful, easy to use, and cuts just about anything you can get the blade through. We took down a couple of trees with it this summer. They were probably larger diameter than what the directions say it will cut, but it handled just fine. Great price, great value, and perfect for small jobs and city living. :)

Excellent product, easy to use and great value.
5 Star Review   By Oldtimer on Home Depot - Aug 25, 2012

I had never touched a chain saw before buying and using this one. I had a 10" diameter limb of about 15'-18' in length with two branches of almost the same length on a sugar maple that needed to be taken off. I had it down, cut into 18" lengths and stacked in less than an hour. Paid for itself in one use. No oil leakage. No problems.

I bought this saw to replace a 25 + years old electric Homelite 12 inch. wore it out..The new ones chain came off after less than 30 seconds. ( Operator error ) failed to check after the asembly line. Reinstalled chain correctly and away we go. It will probably outlast me.

Great for the money
5 Star Review   By Mike on Home Depot - Jul 29, 2012

The first issue is that chain saws use a LOT of oil to keep the chain lubed. People that claim this uses a lot of oil never used gas chain saws like I have. They USE oil people. It holds about 6 ounces of oil and uses about 3 ozs in about 25 minutes of cutting. I do not know what they are comparing it to, but that is normal. I am surprised that it does have a the power of a little gas saw. I go through 6 inch libs like butter. I would buy this saw. Pick up chain saw oil while there. YES you have to put oil in it a lot, but that is NORMAL for yes even the 500 dollar saws. What makes people think an expensive saw uses less oil confuses me.

Great first Chainsaw
5 Star Review   By Doug on Home Depot - Jul 14, 2012

Bought this to clean up a fallen tree due to straight line winds. Cut the trunk up like butter! Not as loud as a gas chains saw, so that's a plus. The oil cap does have a small pinhole on the top so it will leak if you aren't holding the chain saw like you should. I could feel the saw body getting warm where my hands were after continued use (about 30 to 45 minutes) so I let it cool down. I would use a gas chain saw if I had a lot of wood to cut up as i would be afraid of burning out the electric motor through constant use.

1 Star Review   By Unhappy on Home Depot - Jun 20, 2012

If the purpose of the thing was to spread oil everywhere (my clothes, shoes, driveway, steps, THE SIDE OF MY HOUSE, my bushes and grass) then I could rate it 5 stars. But as a chainsaw that literally would not run more than 5 minutes without the chain falling off and having to be put back on it gets a 1 star (because you can't rate lower). Why did they put a "tension adjustment" on the side of it? Because if you want to use this thing you are going to be putting the chain back on it more than cutting. I spent hours yesterday using it and 3/4ths of that time was putting more oil in it and putting the chain back on. Then I spent a couple more hours cleaning up everywhere it leaked oil.

This little guy has power & is easy to use
4 Star Review   By TGrayson on Home Depot - Jun 17, 2012

Bought this chain saw to cut down a few Leyland Cypress trees that were killing the grass around them because they were planted too close together. The tree trunks diameter ranged from 4 - 6 inches and it cut with ease. Just read ALL the directions before using, especially if you have never used a chain saw before, which was true in my case and you will be fine. Just keep an eye on the chain oil level when the saw is in use. It's automatic so it will go down quickly on you if you are not paying attention. Also, it is recommended that if there is oil left in the reservoir when finished, drain it before storing it or it will leak out. Keep it nice & clean, well maintained and like me, you'll very happy with this purchase.

5 Star Review   By bmadoff on Home Depot - Apr 23, 2012

This saw is everything it’s advertised to be. It makes quick work of downed tree limbs of average size. I cut up about 100 feet of limbs this weekend for firewood and it took me a little over an hour with this saw. It has an auto-oiler and the chain tensioner knob is right on the side. It’s a nice tool for the homeowner and with a 2 year warranty I’d definitely buy again.

3 Star Review   By ant7890 on Home Depot - Apr 14, 2012

I had this last night and returned it this noon, it works good, no problem in cutting an almost 14'' dead maple tree, and many of its limbs. I just cannot tolerate that the oil keeps leaking everywhere, what a big mess!

Sometimes less is more
5 Star Review   By SuperTool on Home Depot - Apr 13, 2012

In addition to offering best in class features for the lowest price, this chainsaw has a 9 amp motor, which allows me to use a lightweight 100 foot 16 guage extension cord. It also has a sprocket tip bar, which extends bar and chain life and reduces chain drag and heatup. The metal safety tip allows me to plow into a pile of braches without worry of kickback. The cable hook design is very good, keeping the cord out of the way when cutting. The only thing I don't like is the skip tooth chain, which I will replace with a standard chain when it wears out. Also, like other chain saws in this price range it lacks a chain brake, so it takes about 1-2 seconds to stop when the trigger is released. Overall quality seems to be very good and the tool-less chain tension adjustment system works well.

5 Star Review   By JohnT1492 on Home Depot - Mar 10, 2012

I had a large branch, about 7-inches in diameter, that I need to remove from a tree. There were a couple smaller branches, too, but I could have used a hand saw on those. I was going to rent a chainsaw, but then I found this. There have been other times I could have used a chainsaw, so assuming I might need one again, I decided to buy this one rather than rent a saw one time. I am happy I did. This saw easily cut through the large branch, the smaller branches, and then the numerous other cuts I made while cutting the downed limbs into smaller pieces. Plenty of power. No problems. It's automatic oiling feature does seem to go through a lot of oil, through. I guess that's better than too little.

Good Bang for the Buck
5 Star Review   By Sawyer on Home Depot - Sep 6, 2011

I was skeptical about a $50 chain saw, but this little baby does the job! I cut a 25' tree trunk that ranged from about 4" at the top to 16" at the base. Two nice features: 1. self-oiling (newbies: be sure to buy chain oil) and 2. tool-less chain adjustment. Watch oil level. After only about 8 cuts, the oil tank was nearly empty. The saw cuts well though. I like it better than the 16" Remington it replaced. Time will tell how it holds up, but after first use I am impressed.

Excellent
5 Star Review   By Ben1 on Home Depot - Sep 1, 2011

Homelite 14 inch electric chainsaw: I purchased on 8-30-11. I had 2 oak trees fall during hurricane Irene. I have now sawed for 2 days with about 16 hours on the saw. So far, the saw has been excellent. During the first hour of sawing, I regularly checked chain tension and had to adjust it 3 times. After that, I checked chain tension regularly, but only had to make small adjustments once every 3-4 hours. The bar oiling system works well. It only has a 6 ounce capacity, but it also has a clear plastic gauge that allows you to see how much is left in the tank. I never let the oil get to empty. That’s a sure way to dull and destroy the chain. So far, I have had no problems with the chain getting dull. I bought the electric chainsaw because my Stihl gas chainsaw won’t start again. By far the most wonderful feature of this Homelite is that it starts simply by pulling the accelerator trigger. There is no gas oil to mix and a 100 foot orange extension cord run out of a regular 2-prong socket in my home provides ample electricity. As far as cutting radius, I used a 5/16 socket to remove the bolt that holds the chain nose-guard in place. Once I did that, I was able to cut the trunk of the oak trees up to 14 inches in diameter. I am impressed with this little saw. I wish Homelite made one with an 18” blade. I’d consider buying a second saw to finish the lower trunks of both trees.

Best buy in this category
5 Star Review   By Steve on Home Depot - Jul 8, 2011

Can't say enough good about this little guy. A Home Depot Associate told us they'd cut up over 400 Christmas trees with this 14" saw without a hitch, so we decided to give it a try. Just took out and cut up a 30' dying aspen tree, and it performed flawlessly. As far as I can tell, it's the only one in its class that allows chain tension adjustment without a tool. In fact, when I finished, I could remove the chain and bar and clean it out completely without using any tools! NO reason to go with gas unless a cord just won't reach. Great product.

Great saw for the price
5 Star Review   By Chacka on Home Depot - Jun 26, 2011

I just bought this saw this afternoon, to cut a 30 feet pine tree and it did great. I did not want to spend a lot of money in a saw, so I decided to go cheap and fortunately it did the job without problem at all. I recommend this saw to anyone trying to get rid of a hated tree. However, I don't think this is a so that you should use as a professional tree cutter. In few words great saw. Buy it if you are in a budget like I was.

WOW!! GREAT
5 Star Review   By shoppershopper on Home Depot - Jun 7, 2011

I accidentally purchased this 14" unit with the full intention of getting the 16" model. This unit just happened to be in the wrong place and put it in the cart. Let me start out by saying this 14" chain saw is all I could ever need in a small home saw. I had a major amount of limbs to cut from 1" - 12" and this saw never missed a beat. I have nothing but good to say about this unit. There were several comments about the unit using to much bar oil and leaking. I found this not to be my case. I bought a quart and after 400 cuts I still have over half the quart left. The chain never slipped and only bogged down if I really tried to force the blade through the wood. Pro: All I could ever need Fast, quiet, and strong Con: no blade cover for storage After 400 +/- a few cuts the saw has been working great.

If you're not a lumber jack, this saw is for you!
5 Star Review   By MisterF on Home Depot - May 8, 2011

If you are looking for a chain saw, that the average person can use. This is it. It is powerful enough to cut through very large diameter trees. Stock up on "Bar & Chain oil", and keep an eye on the oil reservoir level. Make sure to keep the chain sufficiently taut. Also, it is fairly simple to clean. Just unscrew the butterfly nut that holds the cover on. And, be careful while using it! You can hurt yourself, or something else if you are not very careful!

Homelite chainsaw
4 Star Review   By Woodswoman on Home Depot - May 5, 2011

This chainsaw is easy to use, light, and cuts through all types of logs quickly and easily, from small diameter pieces up to 12" logs. The cap on the end to prevent kickback is a nice feature and it is easy to sharpen and maintain. My only problem with the saw is that it uses a lot of bar and chain oil. I empty any excess oil out after using the saw and refill when I use it again. However, the saw does spray the oil onto the ground during use and will leak onto any surface under the saw. It can also cause a lot of sawdust to stick to the saw itself around the bar. Overall it is a great saw for cutting logs, but I would love to see the leaking oil issue fixed.

good littlet chainsaw
4 Star Review   By MPrefix on Home Depot - Apr 18, 2011

I purchased this chainsaw to cut down a couple of dead Leyland Cypress trees. They were about 20 feet tall and about 6 inches in diameter. Upon unpacking the saw, I was disappointed to find that no chain oil was included -talk about cheaping out. Not wanting to drive back to the store, I used a 50/50 mix of 5W20 motor oil and Marvel Mystery oil. The saw has plenty of power and never bogged down. It's not heavy and is easy to maneuver. A previous reviewer mentioned that the chain kept slipping off the bar. I ran into this a couple of times but only when cutting smaller branches. It appears that as I cut these, the branches would flex and bounce causing the chain to come out of the track. This never happened when making multiple cuts through the trunks of the trees, so it's possible that all similar chainsaws would have the same issue. Overall, I am satisfied with this chainsaw.

very good product, excellent buy
4 Star Review   By av12 on Home Depot - Apr 16, 2011

I almost didn't buy this because of the negative reviews about tensioning and oil use. I think those complaints are probably due to inexperience. The chain on all chainsaws needs to be kept properly tensioned, and checked before each use. This saw is quite easy to tension and I had no chain tensioning problems. Perhaps the reviewers who complained about this didn't read the manual/pay attention to chain tension or actually had a defective unit. As far as oil use: the saw might--I say "might"--use a little bit more oil than my Stihl and Echo gasoline saws, but not enough for me to complain about. And it doesn't leak out while not in use. Again, I wonder if maybe the negative reviewers put ordinary motor oil in the saw, or maybe used winter grade bar oil on a hot summer day. Use only bar and chain oil, not motor oil, and use the proper, winter or summer grade, and you will be fine. I bought this saw to do work indoors(no 2 cycle fumes) on a rotten 120 year old beam that I could not get in on with my sawzall. Took the safety tip off (one bolt) and was able to plunge cut and notch back to good wood in no time. Nicked at least a dozen nails and the chain is still cutting, At a purchase price of just $50, I've got nothing but good things to say about this tool.

5 Star Review   By skitz on Home Depot - Apr 3, 2011

Owned for about 6 months now, use to trim tree limbs up to about 7" diameter. Did cut-down a tree about 18" diameter once. Bought a chain saw sharpening file from Home Depot too. I regularly sharpen the blade before or after each use. First chainsaw I've owned so nothing to compare to, but like the low cost, small light easy to handle size. Not sure why there are so many poor reviews of this product so thought I'd contribute a positive review.

Fine Saw for the Money for a Woman
5 Star Review   By NMCaroline on Home Depot - Mar 20, 2011

I am a 51-year-old woman in good shape except for arthritic knees and a back that goes out of whack now and then. I bought the saw, read the manual quickly and went to work. I sawed for about three hourswith small breaks, pruning limbs up to six inches in diameter from two trees. When sawing down, let the weight of the saw do the work. When sawing up, apply minimal force, watching for the wood chips. The chain came off once. As others advise, if one exerts force in a direction that does not tend to push the chain into the track, then the chain may come off. I followed the manual's hints on putting the chain back on and was fine. I am mechanically experienced, so this maybe helped. Others not so experienced might find putting the chain back on frustrating. The saw seeps oil lots (by design, pretty much), but the manual warns about this. I used just a fraction of the quart of oil I purchased simultaneous to buying the saw. I was going to pay $75 for the 16-inch version and am glad I went with the lower priced version.

14 in. Electric Chain Saw
1 Star Review   By BRD69 on Home Depot - Mar 18, 2011

Initially out of the box, I knew I was in trouble. The instructions state that the chainsaw needs bar oil to coat the chain, but guess what, the unit does not come with any, so I needed to go back to the store to buy oil. Strike 1. I used the chainsaw twice and it worked well, cutting up limbs from 2 fallen trees in my backyard. Then a neighbor's tree went down and I offered to cut it up. The unit did not cut anything, I noticed that all the oil was gone already. I only used it twice and already 3 or so ounces of oil was used, not a good sign for such a small saw. Strike 2. I put more in and the chain kept slipping and never tighten, even though I was using the tension adjuster to adjust the chain. This is and was useless. I then decided to just replace the chain and the bolt that holds in the cover case in place slipped into the motor casing. This bolt is suppose to be secure and NEVER move. To say the least, I was never able to retrieve the bolt without taking the whole unit apart, so off I went to Home Depot to get my money back. Stay away from this unit.

Amazing value
5 Star Review   By Chrijalc on Home Depot - Jan 17, 2011

After the last storm (Jan '11) I had lots of branches down from my pine tree which landed on my back yard, I bought this electric chain saw and it went through huge branches like butter. It's an awesome value for the money. The only pproblem is that it doesn' include oil but I put some car oil and it worked perfect. Very happy with my purchase.

Worthless
1 Star Review   By FEETDRY on Home Depot - Nov 13, 2010

I purchased this item to cut down an 8" poplar tree. Within 2 minutes the blade was dull and quit cutting. I had followed all of the instructions and spent more time going to the store to buy it than getting to use it. Beside not cutting it doesn't have anywhere near the power that I thought it would, but what was I expecting for 9 amps. I have screwdrivers with twice that amount. Very disappointed especailly since I had seen so many good reviews on here before purchasing this item. DON"T BUY THIS ITEM!

Good Buy!
5 Star Review   By bruce3681 on Home Depot - Oct 19, 2010

Unwilling to pay $700 to remove a Magnolia tree, I bought this saw. I never cut with electric saws but I tried it because the reviews were solid. This saw was excellent for this job as it cut every thing I threw at it. The 30' + magnolia was no push over. The stump measured 15 in. across at the base. The tree is now fire wood. Pretty impressive for a 14" electric saw at this price. I am very happy with this saw. Pros: Price Auto Oiler provided ample supply of lube (buy a gallon) Tool less Chain Tensioner works well. (Keep it properly adjusted) Lightweight and quieter than gas powered saws I have used Safety tip easy to remove if needed Cons: Oil leaks out when off so use up remaining supply before storing

Not bad. I have had five gas chainsaws and needed a lighter one. Seems impressive. I would not cut a 16 tree but it is fast for 10 inches on down. I would recommend it.

Had a gas saw, needed it to cut storm damaged trees, wouldn't start. Went and got this one, works great. Pug in, hold in safety button and pull trigger switch. Done in half hour. Nice piece of equipment, had the power. Like the no tools needed to adjust the chain.

5 Star Review   By OneAngrySwede on Home Depot - Sep 10, 2010

Looks like a toy, sounds like a vacuum cleaner, and works like a champ!!! Very impressed after 1st usage. As several others have noted - make sure you get the chain & bar oil. And get at least a gallon. I cut one 8 in diameter stump and used up half the oil in the saw. No problems with the chain. Read the manual before using, test tension before turning on and you'll be fine. More work ahead of me the rest of the weekend but I have plenty of confidence in this little saw. I would definitely recommend this for small to moderate usage.

Bought this saw last night to cut up the fig tree that hurricane Earl destroyed. Did not want an electric but decided no more often that I will use it, what the heck. Glad I did! This saw is great! Made short order of the tree that was 20' tall. Will find reasons to use this saw.

14" chain saw
5 Star Review   By sueron3 on Home Depot - Aug 1, 2010

I purchased this product last week to do some shrub removal around the Resaca where I live. I was most impressed even though the base of the shrubs were not thick this cut through them like butter. I would definately recommend this to a friend. Only draw back was that (as mentioned by an earlier review) it used a bit more chain oil then expected but other then that it's a super little saw. I took it apart twice to clean it and very easy to take apart and put together again. Definately a five star rating.

14in chain elec. chain saw
1 Star Review   By pauljv on Home Depot - Jul 25, 2010

I bought this chainsaw on 07/21. I used it that day to cut down some stumps from bushes I cut down. I had problems with the chainsaw from the beginning! It was leaking oil from all over! I thought maybe I overfilled it, but it still shouldn't be leaking! it was leaking from from the trigger, from a hole on the bottom you hang it up from! It worked good at first with the smaller branches on the stumps but when I tried to cut into the stumps is where I had more problems. The chain came off twice! This chainsaw is still leaking oil all over! It's going it back for sure!

Great saw for the Money
4 Star Review   By jlgail on Home Depot - Jul 23, 2010

Don't be a fraid of the small saw. Works like a champ on limbs up to 10' round. No chain probems like seen in some of the reviews I read. I called around to get a tree removed that fell. Everyone wanted $200.00 to remove tree. The saw paid for it self in 2 hours. I would highly recommend the saw. Don't forget the chain lube.

5 Star Review   By matthewmchs on Home Depot - Jul 6, 2010

i have never owned an electric chain saw but i was clearing the side of a 40-60 sq. ft. hill and this saw took down trees that were about 20-30 foot high.the base was easily 12 inches in diameter but this saw did the job in under 2 hours. i was really dreading this job but not after buying this saw it has really come through for me.the best thing about this product is how quiet it runs its about as loud as a weed eater. the worst thing is it runs off of a drop cord but if it keeps running as good as it has been i can put up with lugging around a drop cord.lol

14 In.h Bar, Chain Saw
5 Star Review   By Robbthemechanic on Home Depot - May 23, 2010

Okay, so I'm a tool nut, a professional wrench turner by trade. If it doesn't have an engine, it's not for me. That is until now. I purchased this electric saw to remove an overgrown tree in my front yard. Sliced trough it like a hot knife through butter. A real pleasure to use. For such an inexpensive saw, I can't tell you how impressed I am with the power and ease of use. Pick up some bar and chain oil as others suggest, or I'm sure you could just run a 30 weight engine oil for the automatic oiler. After what I put this saw through, I just can't imagine anyone being dissatisfied with its performance. Happy cutting!

For 50 bucks, this is a good chain saw. I used it right out the box after adding chain oil. I brought it to cut down a few small "weed trees" that grew in my yard. It cut them quick and effortlessly. If your a logger don't bother, but if you need something cheap that your probably not going to use for another two years this it.

We have a wood heater. Need I say more. This saw works perfect for my needs. My husband cuts logs from the forest that are 8 ft long and anywhere between 3 and 10 inch's around. About once a week I go out to the wood pile and cut up a bunch of firewood. Not once has the chain fallen off, or the motor not started. I depended on it through this hard winter and it never let me down. It was worth its weight in gold. Thanks for making a great product. Warm and happy JR

5 Star Review   By Slim72 on Home Depot - Mar 20, 2010

I just bought this item and have not used it for a great deal of time. I bought it because my other saw gave up the ghost. I like the fact that there is ease in tightening the chain, the visable oiler, and it has good balance. It has a good grip allowing you to hold on to it better. From the little time I have had the saw I would recommend it to my friends. It is a good light duty saw.

No Monkey (or Weasel) Business
3 Star Review   By Bob35 on Home Depot - Feb 9, 2010

My old gas chain saw lost its sprocket bearing when I started to cut down the Mullberry tree in my back yard. I looked around for something inexpensive to use to finish the job and found this Homelite in stock at my local Home Depot. The tree is now down. The saw works great in more or less vertical cutting. It has a problem in horizontal cutting such as falling a tree. When cutting horizontally, saw dust doesn't discharge the sprocket cover and packs in causing the chain to come off. I realized why the chain came off and periodically removed the saw and cleared the saw dust while making felling cuts. I cleared it by simply runnig the saw upright briefly then returning to the felling cut. This Mullbery tree was budding and would have had fruit in a few weeks (early spring). I point this out because the sap is sticky and probably contributed to the problem. The felling cuts were made about waist high on two 8" to 9" diameter branches

Awesome!
5 Star Review   By DChieng on Home Depot - Jan 18, 2010

I've used it for 3-4 hours, cutting up to 6" diameter and it kept on going. Chain did get knock out once by the log when it split but it was fairly easy to put the chain back, I was able to figure it out without using the manual. Adjusting chain tension was easy. Remember to buy that oil for automatic chain lubrication, I think it used like 1/3 to 1/2 bottle in 3-4 hours. Much quieter than gas-powered and weight a whole lot less.

Great saw for the money
5 Star Review   By SuburbanCutter on Home Depot - Nov 6, 2009

Pros: Handles easily, self oil, easy to adjust tension, electric, great price. Cons: None I have discovered I have owned this saw for a year now, have cut with 3-4 times, about 6-8 hours per time. I originally bought it because I had numerous small diameter (4-10") hickory and oak trees on my property that needed to come down. After reviewing the major brands, this was my choice. It cuts great. Self-oiling lets you concentrate on cutting. The tension adjuster is perfect, no tools needed! The design also makes it easy to clean the bar/chain after each use--no more gunk covered chainsaw. Electric type is great, you just plug and go. No mixing fuel/oil, no ear-shattering racket, no smoke/stink. Unless you are lumberjacking or need the raw power of a gasoline type, this is the perfect chainsaw.

Great Little Saw
5 Star Review   By Klowney on Home Depot - Nov 1, 2009

I bought this saw to cut some rounds that are 14" diameter. I was skeptical at first because I have used a LOT of chainsaws and I didn't think an electric would be to my liking. I was Happily amazed that this saw handled the Job so well, especially since I was cutting right on the outer limit of its 14" capability. I will definitely be using this saw a LOT around my home. The ease of chain tensioning is one of my favorite features. Three things to remember about ANY chain saw. Clean Saw, Sharp Chain, Bar Oil. GREAT SAW

Chain will not stay in track
1 Star Review   By AverageGuy10 on Home Depot - Oct 31, 2009

I've had a couple people look at it in case I was doing something wrong. The chain jumps out of the track within seconds of beginning any cut. Sometimes it jumps out of the track before even touching what you want to cut. We tried all kinds of tension adjustments without any improvement. The longest I got it to stay in the track was less than a minute.

two things
5 Star Review   By Timjp77 on Home Depot - Aug 30, 2009

bought this to cut a small tree down in my back yard. Tree trunk was about 10 inches in diameter. This chain saw worked great for the job but there are two things I'd comment about it. 1. It requires chain oil to begin using it which is not included and no where on the box does it tell you that. I had to return to the store and get some chain oil after I had already gotten home. Kind of a hassle. 2. The chain popped off which wasn't a problem but the instructions are very poor on how to put the chain back on. Other than these two things, it worked great for a small job.

5 Star Review   By baal on Home Depot - Aug 19, 2009

I had a large branch, (8-10 in), break off a tree in the front of my house. My gas powered chain saw wouldn't start after about 20 min. of trying so I jumped in the car and went to HomeDepot to get this electric one. It did an extremely good job of cutting up the 20 ft. long branch section and didn't bind or stall. I will never go back to a 2 cycle gas chain saw again. For the price of $50. this is the best product I've purchased in years. Highly recommended.

5 Star Review   By dluis on Home Depot - Jul 15, 2009

I needed a chainsaw to cut down four trees with trunks between 14 and 20 inches in diameter. I purchased this one because of the great reviews and I didn't want to spend over $100. This thing is a little work horse! I was able to make all cuts with relative ease. There were a few times when I forgot to tighten the chain and the chain came off, but that's my own fault. There were also a couple of instances when I wished it had just a little more power, but for $50, it has a great power/quality to cost ratio. I only wish it came with a starter bottle of bar oil, but not a big deal.

Great value for small jobs
4 Star Review   By Kdogg on Home Depot - Jun 9, 2009

I bought this chain saw was easily able to take down some small trees in my yard. It worked great and for the price, makes me quite satisfied. I did have to buy separate bar oil, which was a minor annoyance since I didn't realize that when I ordered the chain saw. Also, the chain saw got stuck in the tree limbs sometimes and I had to constantly move the chain saw as I cut. I'm not sure if that's normal or not, but in any case was not an issue for me. In summary though, great price for what you get.

Cheap and Does The Job
5 Star Review   By Mozz on Home Depot - May 30, 2009

I am no "tool guy" (the most powerful tool I own is an iPod) so I have nothing to compare this with, but this chainsaw works really well for me. I am chopping up some small trees and branches (5-6 inches across) for firewood and this is doing the job nicely. Actually, it cuts quicker than I thought it would. Not too noisy and no fumes. No set-up. Works right out the box. I have no idea how long it will last, but at this price, even if I only use it for a year or two, it is still cheaper than a rental and saves me from the politics of borrowing from a neighbor or family member. Just make sure you have lots of bar oil and get some safety glasses!

Great Saw
5 Star Review   By nickguy on Home Depot - May 3, 2009

Bought this saw Saturday and used it for about 5 straight hours that day then another 1-2 hours Sunday cutting up an old pine tree and other large tree limbs. This saw did great. The biggest cut I made was probably about 14 in. and it cut right through it. Does a great job cutting up the smallest limbs right up to the thick ones. I would say if your looking for a cheap saw (price not quality) then go for this one. Especially if this is your first saw, not taking anything away from it but to me it felt just like using a hedge trimmer. The only compliant I do have is not with the saw itself but the packaging. I read the reviews before going and buying this saw and a lot of people were talking about how much oil it uses up, but when I went to buy it, there was nothing on the box about the oil except that it has a "automatic oiler." So trusting the other reviewers I grabbed some oil just to be safe, and boy am I glad I did. Take my word for it (and the other posters) this saw needs oil and none is included. Grab yourself and extra bottle of oil! In my local store it was right there next to the saws, but if you can't find it, ask! You will need it. (p.s. thank you other writers for the tip on the oil, saved me a trip back to the store)

Decent Chainsaw
4 Star Review   By slowpoke on Home Depot - May 2, 2009

I bought this saw just to have around for light pruning and the occasional job site hack job. I didn't want to mess with an engine, carburetor, etc., and always have extension cords out, so it made sense. I'd say for the price, you can't go wrong. It cost me less than a couple hours' wages, including a gallon of bar oil, and is ready to go. My only quibbles with it are: as mentioned in other reviews, it does use plenty of bar oil; even though it is double insulated and therefore does not require a ground prong, it should have one anyway to help keep the extension cord plugged in (bending your extension cord severely through a loop on the handle is hard on the cord and drives me nuts); and lastly, I am surprised that it doesn't include a protective sheath for the bar and chain (fortunately, I had a dead leaf blower, so I used the tube from it). The saw has plenty of power. The owner's manual is plenty informative--even with detail about sharpening your chain. And, the saw comes with a 2-year warranty. For 50 bucks? It's a deal. Get it. If you have problems, take it back and get another one.

Garbage saw
1 Star Review   By GreenEngineer on Home Depot - Apr 21, 2009

The chain derailed within 15 minutes of easy use. I put it back together but noticed the plastic frame might be flexing such that the chain ran on the motor gear at a slight angle. After fixing, it broke within seconds. The chain derails easily because the gear flexes the plastic frame a little. Also, the plastic kick back feature is garbage and would break if something else didn't break first.

My chainsaw
5 Star Review   By BobandBarb on Home Depot - Mar 31, 2009

I recently purchased a Homelite electric chainsaw from the Home Depot website. The actual purchase was quite easy and quick. I was looking forward to a world of confusion, as on most shopping website, but was very happy to discover that this purchase lead me easily and clearly to my purchase. Using normal shipping I was very surprised to receive the saw, at my home, in only four days. The saw itself has performed wonderfully, with my wife telling what to do! The saw is lightwieght and easy to handle, it has several safety features which all contribute to the safe use of the saw. The 9amp motor provides plenty of power so the saw can do it's job efficiently and without much effort. I am very satified with the purchase and especially the performance of the saw.

WOW!! Worth Every Penny!! Great Saw!!

Never write reviews but this saw deserves it. Needed something light and effective and is as advertised. Uses bar oil quite a bit, would recommend buying the gallon rather than the quart. Used all weekend and was truly tested. Performed wonderfully. Thanks again. Don't hesitate! Just Buy!

Excellent Tool
5 Star Review   By txtumbleweed7 on Home Depot - Feb 19, 2009

Purchased this saw last year to use to clear limbs and small trees on our lake lot. I ended up using it for everything. It performed as well as our gas saw. Cuts small as well as medium tress, a breeze for large limb trimming. The only con is it uses quite a bit of bar oil. Definately would recommend.

GREAT saw!
5 Star Review   By RobbC on Home Depot - Aug 18, 2008

THis is a GREAT saw, too bad it isn't offered in ANY Home Depot Store in my area. This saw came assembled and ready to go. And it did the job I needed with no problem! I really liked the handle! The way it wraps around the body of the saw. Allowing it to be turned on it's side, while still maintaining a good cut! I highly recommend!

Excellent product
5 Star Review   By Dale48 on Home Depot - Jul 26, 2008

I needed a saw to do light to medium work around the yard. This fit the bill perfectly. I took a 10" limb out of an oak with littke effort. Great product.

Very impressed!

After reading the review about the bigger one of these, I was a little worried about buying the 9 amp model. The review stated that it leaked bar oil, the manual says you should drain the oil out when storing, not a big deal. It cut through 12" logs like a pro. Good job Homelite.
