Does the job!
5 Star Review   By NorthwestFarmer on Home Depot - Apr 12, 2013

Bought this splitter primarily to tackle some old growth fir (60"+ in diameter). The vertical split feature is key as each round is in excess of 150lbs. Made short work of even the most knotty slabs with excess power available. The honda motor is smooth, quiet and started on the first pull. Highly recommend this product.

Broke immediately
1 Star Review   By Hortence on Home Depot - Mar 28, 2013

I purchased the floor model (big mistake). Had it for 4 days, fired it up and began splitting. On roughly the 10th pull, it somehow pushed the log into the guide bracket and snapped it clean off. The pump did seem shifty from the beginning, I guess it was just enough angle to push the wood into the bracket.

Excellent Splitter!
5 Star Review   By Ronald on Home Depot - Mar 27, 2013

This splitter is well built and performs as specified in the overview. I have split 24" diameter logs (ash) without any hesitation or strain on the hydraulics or easy starting Honda engine. The operations manual stipulates not mixing the recommended hydraulic fluids, however, I checked with the manufacturer and they state this is an error and that any of the specified fluids can be mixed to top off the reservoir. Highly recommend this splitter to anyone who demands quality and performance in the equipment they own.

great machine
5 Star Review   By winchandle on Home Depot - Feb 5, 2013

I'm glad I forked out more money to get a good machine. The plastic fender issue is rather trivial. If you aren't too much of a klutz, you wont drop a log on the fenders. The horizontal/vertical positioning feature is great, obviating the need to lift heavy logs up on the splitter bed. 20 some tons of pressure -- woof!

This is a good splitter.
4 Star Review   By Dickie on Home Depot - Jan 30, 2013

This splitter seems to be really good but we've only had it a short time. That's why I didn't give it more stars. I don't know about how it will hold up yet. So far though, it works good. We had some 100+ year old cottonwood trees taken down and we are cutting them up for firewood and they are huge. So having a logsplitter helps immensely.

So far, works like a champ.
5 Star Review   By Shane on Home Depot - Jan 29, 2013

I've split about a cord of pine with this so far. Some of the pieces were around 24" around. They were all fairly dry. A couple of the big ones it would stop for a moment and then power through them. It still split every piece. Took me about half hour by myself to put it all together which was easy. I only tried the vertical position once. It is easy to switch back and forth but I found with the lighter weight wood I was splitting that lifting them onto a horizontal surface was more comfortable. +Honda engine starts every time +Heavy duty...this thing is solid. +Pre-filled hydraulic fluid and oil in the engine. Add gas and go. +Yellow matches my yellow Honda ATV -Plastic fenders on the wheels. The way the log catchers on each side are set up, the logs bounced off the fenders each time a piece fell off. I'll have to do something or they will be destroyed over time. The log catchers look like they are made to have something else attached to them like a basket. Might need to look into that. I'm hoping for years of use out of this unit.

Purchased the splitter on line. As soon as it arrived I unpacked it. Took very little to time to assemble. Put in gas and away I split. Goes thru evebything. It really saved time and my back! Very good machine for the cost.

The Honda engine is what sold me
5 Star Review   By Steve on Home Depot - Nov 23, 2012

I have been looking to buy or build a log splitter myself. I looked at several Big Box store brands. I have a Cub Cadet snow blower and never had any issues with that. I bought this the other day and brought it home put gas in it and immediately started splitting wood after the 2nd pull. Great machine and had no problems at all. Excellent.

Works well
5 Star Review   By BobF on Home Depot - Nov 6, 2012

Owned this splitter for a few weeks now. It's working well. I live in the mountains of CO where we don't really have much hardwood but I've split some 20"+ logs with big, gnarly knots in them and it's had no trouble. It'll slow down for a second or two when it hits a big knot but powers right through. The engine starts easily and seems to have enough power. My only issues are that the engine shroud and fenders are plastic. I'm afraid they might break when a chunk of wood falls on them. But, I've dropped several large pieces on the fender already and it's still in one piece. Other splitters that I looked at had no fenders. So, if the fender on this one breaks I'll just take it off.

Reliable, strong, user friendly
5 Star Review   Home Depot

Have used this now for a month. Starts on first pull every time. Auto throttle runs a little high for my taste, but certainly ,powers the hydraulics. Will run for about an hour on a tank of gas. So far, this has split everything I've given it. Toughest has been red oak up to 20" in diameter and maple with ugly knots. May hesitate on really tough knot, but only for a second then powers through. Speed is adequate and noise is acceptable. Only drawback so far is that fenders are plastic. While they seem tough, split pieces often fall on them and I can see them breaking at some point.
