AWESOME TOOL
5 Star Review   By Sherby on Home Depot - Jun 9, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Saw this on a tv show and told my husband about it. He didn't want to buy it so I bought it anyway. Now I can't get it away from him. We love this thing. Just finished cutting down some bushes with very thick branches. It cut through them like butter. Have pruned trees with 3-4 inch branches with ease. Best tool we've ever had. Awesome!!

4 Star Review   By Jack on Home Depot - May 28, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Bought this for my wife. It works great and is light enough that she has no problem using it. Even took down small trees. We had to buy an extra battery, but that was expected, as with all cordless tools.

The cordless Alligator is much better then I thought it could be. I cut many two and three inch trees and limbs and the battery power just would not give up.

EXCELLENT!!!
5 Star Review   By Fran on Home Depot - May 2, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Recieved this as a late Christmas present since it was out of stock in December. I had asked for it because I have a large yard with many bushes with thick branches that need frequent pruning. I had been pruning with a ratchet loper which worked well, but could not get through some of the larger limbs. This past Feb I had shoulder repair surgery and figured this years pruning would have to wait until next year when I'd be capable to use the strenghth required to prune. Not so with the Aligator! I zipped right through clean up with such ease I was done in no time at all and so much easier then using the ratchet. Love it! Thank you Black & Decker. Great product.

This Alligator chainsaw is so easy to use you really dont need any experience using a chainsaw at all. Cuts thru 4 in limbs with ease. As Always Home Depot came thru with fast shipping and a quality product. You might want to order a extra battery if you have any amount of cutting to do.

Perfect for unencumbered yard clean up!
5 Star Review   By Diane on Home Depot - Apr 23, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Had wanted a cordless, easy-to-handle chainsaw for yard clean up as I have numerous large trees that drop limbs and small trees growing where I didn't want them. This cordless chainsaw took care of cutting down the small trees easily and cutting up the fallen limbs for burning in the fire pit. For me it feels safer to use having the 'alligator' feature than a standard chainsaw without the chain covered. Not too heavy, easy to use, locks when not in use, and lots of power to get the job done!

5 Star Review   By RonD on Home Depot - Mar 29, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

First saw this beauty at a neighborhood cleanup event after a windstorm; one of my neighbors had one and I fell in love with it. Now I have one and wouldn't be without it. I'm recommending it to other neighbors and family members. Worth every penny of the purchase price. Saves wear and tear on your body; saves time in pruning projects.

I love this tool! I thought it might make my wrists hurt because it is a little heavy. The first time I used it for about 3 hours and it did not make my muscles sore at all. I had both batteries charged and also have other batteries that will also fit this that goes to my weed eater. I even cut a "tree" about three inches in diameter.

5 Star Review   By nosopradio on Home Depot - Jan 1, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This saw makes cutting branches and shaping large shrubs really easy. I used to cut using a hand saw, which was a lot of work. I did not want to purchase a chainsaw, even though they do have smaller, lightweight ones. I thought this would be safer for me. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to safely cut branches.

Excellent for trail work!
5 Star Review   By Berchman on Home Depot - Dec 29, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I needed something I can carry easily on a daypack along with other tools for clearing trails. I received it as a gift and took it out without any expectations. This tool is perfect for cutting 1inch-4inch branches to help keep trails open. Once you get the hang of how it likes to cut you simply let it do the work—it cuts like butter with a full battery. You can easily flip the motor side up and cut nearly flush-to-the-ground stumps on just about anything. Really nice for not leaving things people can trip over. Seemed to not work as well when trying to cut at the base of thin stemmed brush. Some of the stems getting "caught" in the blade sometimes causing it to stop abruptly. So I did learn a lesson there and will stick to the hand tools on those. I would estimate about 45 minutes to one hour of use on a fully charged battery. That's not holding it on for 45 mins—rather continuous short bursts, or cuts, to clear branches. Overall it’s a great tool. I'm going to get another battery pack. Highly recommend.

Will recomment to anyone.
5 Star Review   By VetteGuy on Home Depot - Dec 12, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

After I bought the loppers my sister and my friend also bought one. It's fantastic, although after about 20 minutes of cutting it's starts to get heavy. The battery never did run down. Even cut down a small 5 inch oak tree in the yard. Cuts palm fronds like nothing. Highly recommend, just remember to keep the blade to the top of the cut to prevent binding of the chain.

Gator Loppers are the best!
5 Star Review   By pabo on Home Depot - Nov 20, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I would recommend gator loppers to anyone who wants something for easy, safe and efficient pruning! These loppers work great on small branches on trees and shrubs that need major renovating. If you have ever worn your hands and arms out with hand loppers and clippers (like me), then these loppers will be a dream come true!

If you can find electrical version BUY IT!
4 Star Review   By 2gouho on Home Depot - Oct 9, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This product was a pleasant surprise. I have an Echo chain saw that I love but some jobs do not require all that power. I had a great loper that did the small jobs but when you have branches that are 3-4" you need a little more muscle. This saw comes out of the box ready to use. You just have to add the chain oil. It is a little heavy, and you start to feel it in the arms after a while. But you can't beat the easy use and how quickly you can get your pruning jobs done. I purchased the electric version instead of the cordless. I just do not like the short life of Black and Decker recharable battery packs. But if you need the cordless version, be sure to buy an extra backup battery because you will only get 15-20 minutes of good use before you start to lose power. This power tool is great for women or the elderly who are afraid of chain saws but like to do their own yard work. Great product

Cleaver but junk...
1 Star Review   By ScottieWS on Home Depot - Jul 22, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Bought mine back in 2006, used it maybe three times for a total of LESS THAN 30 MINUTES. I have 3 other gas chain saws so its not a matter of instruction or knowledge. And here we are in 2012, won't cut anything, I have to force the handles together just to get them to close. The saw looks brand new, no scares, nor do I loan my tools to neighbors. Cleaver idea, junk... S.

Good but battery life???
4 Star Review   By stashu on Home Depot - May 30, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Product does cut fairly easily through 1.5 to 2 inch branches/limbs however I was disappointed with the length of time the battery lasted. Only about 2 hours in when it started dying. Most of the branches were about 1 inch thick and I was not using it constantly. I don't think I cut 150 branches which is Black & Decker's battery estimate. I really want the versatility of cordless but if you plan on using this frequently and for multiple hours at a time you may want to opt for a second battery or the corded version. *This product is overkill for branches less than 1 inch dia; too cumbersome (faster by hand). Get yourself a good set of lopper's and save the money if you're in this category.

5 Star Review   By Godiva on Home Depot - May 16, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This saw is easy to use and works very quickly. I cut up a lot of tree branches that had come down over the winter. My husband is a logger, and he was even impressed! Oiling the chain is a little messy, but don't let that stop you from buying this saw.

5 Star Review   By GypsyDave on Home Depot - May 8, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This saw works great! The power for a battery operated saw is surprising. Easily get 50 cuts on a charge. The book says 150 and I don't doubt it, but I used it trimming a 30' fir tree along the bottom and ran out of limbs to trim. Be sure and oil after every 10 cuts like the book says and check the chain tension after initial use.

Handy mini chain saw!
5 Star Review   By Babs on Home Depot - May 8, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This is a fun little lopper and has more umph than I expected for a battery operated tool. You definitely should buy an extra battery or two if you have a large job to do. I bought it to do incidental lopping jobs around the yard and to cut side branches off of tree tops left over from logging last fall and am pleased with how it works. My only concern is that the chain seems to loosen up and start slipping after extended use, and I did not have the wrench with me to tighten it up out in the woods. It does not come with chain saw oil, but a small empty squirt bottle is included that you can fill and take with you while you are working. This is a nifty little tool and works great as long as you do not try to cut something too big. Seems to work better on green wood than on dead wood which makes sense because there is less friction with green wood.

This is a wonderful product. I am scared of chainsaws and will not use one. My husband is a couch potato so trimming tree branches never get done. 5 Star Review   By Olderthandirt on Home Depot - Mar 26, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Only used a couple of times so far but does a great job. I have a 300 foot long hillside and my gas chain saw is ok for large stuff. This cordless rally fits in and does a great job on small stuff. Four inch branches are a piece of cake. The safety part is also a great benefit. Only complaint is that is wasn't made in the USA!

A chainsaw perfect for a girl!
5 Star Review   By cantrecall on Home Depot - Feb 13, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I've used this 'til I've exhausted the battery 4 times now. I've been able to take down trees larger than the 4 inches they list, as the jaws open wider than 4 inches. I'd guess some were 6 inches in diameter. I'd say the battery goes about 1 hr to 1 1/2 hours for me. The chainsaw handles well and I have had NO scary kick backs like I've had with a circular saw. At 7-8 pounds it is managable to carry around on rugged terrain, use on overhead limbs, etc. A few things I've discovered. Get your 10- 30W oil. It doesn't come with oil. The oil spout doesn't fit the hole so I just pour oil on the chain. I don't oil it every ten minutes as is in the instructions, but since they instruct me to do so my husband ( who knows chain saws) is quite sure that there is no reservoir for the oil and so pouring it on the chain is just fine. I oil it when I've exhausted the battery. Shipped with tax was about $95 and if an extra battery wasn't another $40 I would have been happy to have another and get more done than just an hour or so. Oh also, it works slick cutting off thorny bushes on ground level that would take many cuts with loppers- just 2 seconds with this verses 12 cuts with loppers for all those scratchy stems. Wonderful! I used my loppers before i bought this- and gave myself a sore thumb and wrist that I'm still splinting. This is far better for a large scale project like me clearing horse riding trails on 30 acres of woods.

These clipper-like jaws made short work of the brush along the side of the building. Took down small trees. Now I am using them to cut chunks of branches for the wood stove. Some times the chain gets stuck in the cut.

Other friends had bought these and liked them so I bought one. We are using them for cutting invasive plants/trees in the range of 1"- 3" and it is perfect for the job. Ladies feel safe using it. Nice tool to own if you are pruning and limbs are getting too much for the loppers.

I'm 80 plus years old and can no longer start the regular chain saw. so when I saw the Jaw Saw in an ad I thought it would be just the thing for me...I had lots of BIG trees blown over this past year and needed something to cut them up....I can't afford $50.00 an hour to have someone come to cut my trees up. With the jaw saw I can get the limbs cut up enough so all there is left are the big parts and then I can hook up the tractor to them and pull them into a fence type pile...My kids are sort of feeling better when they saw the Jaw Saw. Thanks for designing something that I can use. I'm 5 feet tall and weigh about 100 pounds and am 80 years. Thank you

great product with an exception

I started using this product last week and was excited with the way it worked. After a half hour of using the product the battery decided to slow down considerably and was dead within the hour. This has happened a few times and is a disappointment when working.

Only downfall was receiving it in the original box. So its like it was right off the shelf. The shipping label does not peal off well and this was a gift so I would have liked it shipped in another plain brown box.

One of the best & safest tools available
5 Star Review   By Prem on Home Depot - Dec 4, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This is very safe to use. Don't have the same safety issues as chain saw. And the tool does what it is supposed to. If the tree branch fits in the lopper it cuts it. I would definitely recommend this. I got this on deal for 50$, and totally worth it. Con: Nothing big, but putting oil is not very convenient. The oil hole lid doesn't open easily.

Great for easy loping and light cutting work
4 Star Review   By Skip on Home Depot - Nov 10, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

First and foremost, there is no cord about which to worry or stop short from the proposed cut. It is so convenient to have the saw instantly available while doing light branch work. There is not the inconvenience of shutting off and pull starting a gasoline saw. It was a great help in clearing the detrius and debris that resulted from our Northeast Halloween Blizzard. My acre of land looked like it was hit by a bomb. The saw is a great supplement to my gasoline powered chain saws. Not only did I buy a saw for myself,, but bought one for my son in law as a Christmas present

Alligator 6 in. Electric Cordless Chain Saw
5 Star Review   By 12Al on Home Depot - Nov 8, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Great product. I have the 6 inch cordless chain saw that is also very good. I use the alligator to trim bushes with branches that vary between 1-2 inches in diameter. The alligator "jaws" stabilize the branch so the cutting is smooth and quick. As an extra bonus, I was having a problem ordering the product on line. When I called Home Depot to order the product for $89.00, I was told the product was on sale that day for $39.00. In retrospect, I should have ordered two because the battery alone is worth $35-$40 dollars.

Great little chainsaw
5 Star Review   By LittleBit on Home Depot - Oct 11, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

It cuts through trees and branches easily. It does get hung up a bit, but just wiggling it starts it cutting again. I like the safety feature which only activates if both handles are being squeezed, so when I am carrying it around it doesn't kick on. It is lightweight and great for women to use around the yard.

Top Tool of the Century
5 Star Review   By na1x on Home Depot - Oct 11, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

The Black & Decker Alligator has got to be the most innovative and useful, and safest tool on the market today. It is a cordless lopper that really works. It is light weight, needs very little maintainance, and most important of all, comes with a powerful battery that really holds a charge for a long time. I had a job to do which required cutting over 200 tree limbs from 1-1/2 inches in diamater and smaller. I was able to get the entire job done in a couple of hours on a single battery charge. This tool is a lifesaver to me. I am 68 years old, and it is very easy to use and manage. It goes without saying that I would highly recomment the Black & Decker Alligator cordless chain saw to anyone.

This product really helped me to prune trees in my yard. It cut down my pruning time by hours! My husband couldn't believe how much I was able to do. This device is sooo much safer than a traditional chainsaw. I wish they made a bigger verson that could cut trees at the trunk, but this is fantastic!

this is heavy 4 my hands. i may not be able 2 use it; although when seeing it online, it looked doable 4me. i'll update u when i do get a chance 2try it. also, the manual looks a little intimidating when u must tighten the chain, etc. i guess i thought it was like a lopper, even tho it did say chain saw....i just thought u know, the teeth would lop thru the 4" w/o a chainsaw affect. oh well............ i'm sure someone who has more strength in their hands/arms would find it alright. i'm not really a "tool" person.

Works Great for Me!
5 Star Review   By DIYer50 on Home Depot - Jun 11, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I am a 50-year-old lady who has never used a chainsaw and is afraid of them, but I needed something to mow through a huge row of shrubs I want to remove. I thought these might be the ticket, and I was absolutely right. I wear safety goggles while using these and feel perfectly safe and don't worry about lopping off a finger or anything. They have quickly gone through the shrubs and one small tree I cut down. They're not too heavy, and so far they have had all of the power I need them to have. I couldn't believe how much of my hedge row I got cut down in about 1/2 hour (I got rained out at that point). I really love these a lot and consider them my best yardwork friend. They rock!!!!!

Alligator Lopper

I purchased the lopper to clear about 1/4 acre of trees and heavy brush. The tool did more than I expected and was very easy to use. I would like the battery to last a little longer but I did purchase an extra and the two along with an extra from my trimmer could very nearly keep up with me. Great Product

Excellent Tool
5 Star Review   By JerryJH on Home Depot - Sep 30, 2010    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I needed to cut down some mature bushes in the front of my house. I was looking at some chain saws and couldn't help but feel that they were a bit overkill for the job. I went in to the store to try to look at the chain saws first person when I saw this off to the side. I don't know why the website here says that this is an online only item, but I found it in the store for $40. What a steal. On a full charge the alligator easily cut down all of my bushes and cut them down a bit further for curb-side pick up. I had no issues (other than the usual chain slipping off for the first use). It turned out to be the right tool for the job and I'm sure I'll find other uses for it around the house.

Good Tool So Far
4 Star Review   By tobyzip on Home Depot - Sep 18, 2010    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I didn't give this saw 5 stars only because my use of it has not been extensive so far, either because of bad weather or my own laziness. That being said, for as much as I have used it, it's seeming pretty doggone awesome. I am a 115# female, and seriously scared of chain saws. This little fellow has no "kick" that I noticed, it's lightweight enough for me to haul around the yard, and it seems to get the job done for me. I am clearing many, many overgrown forsythias from the yard, and doing it by hand was fine until I got to the woody stems. So I got this saw, and am very satisfied with it. The battery charging doesn't bother me. When it wears down, that just means it's time for me to take a break! I am a little bit ticked that I paid $59.00 for mine, and now it's $39.00 - NO FAIR!! Maybe I'll get another one so my sister can help me with these bushes! Buy one - you'll like it.

I am very illiterate about Chain Saws, but when I say the Black and Decker Alligator Lopper;I knew that is what I need for the job . I have small trees that are beginning to be covered wiith KUDZOO. i Grad my Alligator and began to cut down the trees. I started cutting and before I knew what to do, I was covered with KUDZOO. The Alligator and I kept on swinging with the Jaws wide open, which made glad, because it did what I was hoping.

works great on any type and size of tree. just used it to clear 1100x6 ft of saplings. only used 5 battery charges! the only two problems are the bar and chain oil the little bottle dosen't work very well and the chain ajustment wrench strips very easily. other than that it is awsome.

Very small jobs only
3 Star Review   By burn on Home Depot - Apr 21, 2010    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

It does a pretty good job on 3" branches. It has a hard time with 4" branches, but manages to get through them. Nothing unexpected there. It's easy to use and relatively safe. The battery runs out quickly. After an all night charge, You can get about 30 1.5" cuts (not the 150 they claim). Then it's time to put it on the charger for nine hours. If you have big cuts, except to get about four cuts on a full charge. At that rate, my one week project would turn into a year long project. I took it back to the store. If you just have a few cuts here and there, this isn't a bad unit. If you want to get a couple hours of work done per charge, forget it.

Great tool
5 Star Review   By jwbray on Home Depot - Apr 5, 2010    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I purchased this due to a lot of broken limbs/split trees from a particularily bad winter. I used it for the first time this weekend and all I can say is wow! Very functional and easy to use. I would recommend you pick up at least an extra battery and maybe even the 1 hour charger. The battery lasted longer than I expected but be prepared that it will probably not last through a large job. An automatic oiler would be handy but is certainly not a major issue. Thanks B&D...great product

best little "chain saw"
5 Star Review   By mountaingirl on Home Depot - Apr 2, 2010    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I am a 65 yr old woman who has a big job to do cleaning up large branches and brush from a tree I had felled. I am leery to start using gas tools and afraid to use a chain saw. I tried a reciprocating saw which did not work at all for my job. I found this 18V Cordless Alligator which seemed like it would work. Too far away to use a cord. Bought it yesterday at Home Depot and tried it today. Worked like a charm. I quit before the battery so not sure how long it will stay charged but it has plenty of power and never faded. I love it. And it feels very safe. Price is $30 less than a major competitor (I won't say where).
