Great edger & trencher
5 Star Review   By Termin8or on Home Depot - Jun 11, 2013

I decided there must be a better way plastic and rubber moldings to make our gardens look better. The Edge Hog eats through the turf and makes all but perfect cuts when edging or trenching. Now I don't have to worry about the grass encroaching on our garden beds and it looks neater. The motor is excellent and the edger/trencher adjustment is pretty easy. Just make sure you unplug it before you start changing settings. I'm certain this would do some serious damage to your hands and fingers.

Stopped working just 2 weeks past the two year warranty
1 Star Review   By sm27519 on Home Depot - Jun 4, 2013

This was a really good edger, however it stopped working just 2 weeks over its two year warranty. I wish I had bought an extended warranty on this. I might try the gas edgers now.

6 Years and Running Great
5 Star Review   Home Depot

I have had one of these for over 6 years now, and it still runs great. I used to use the B&D Grass Hog to trim/edge, but having a large corner lot, I used 3-6 spools each time. I bought one of these while on sale, and totally worth every penny. I now have had the same pack of trimmer line for the last 3 years. It takes slight practice and observation for your specific property, as far as the depth settings are concerned. I have seen others comment about it not make a deep cut, but maybe you just aren't settings it to cut deep enough. I have seen some complain about it not cutting straight, but maybe you are using a dull blade and not walking straight. Use the little arrow guide on the blade shroud. I painted the black arrow guide bright orange to make it easier to see. Also, if you really think that 9 bucks is a lot for a blade, think about how much a service would charge to add on edging in their lawn service. That being said, for about three bucks, I bought one of the drill operated blade sharpeners to sharpen my lawn mower blade every summer. I have used it to sharpen the blade for this edger as well, and I still have the original blade. I will be replacing the blade for the first time in SIX years. Watch what you're doing, don't scrape the sidewalk, or hit rocks with it, and you will have great success. Keep calm and edge on my friends!

With a little practice great results
5 Star Review   By PokerBarry on Home Depot - May 28, 2013

Required some assembly out of the box. One side of my lawn is a steep driveway. The edger does not work at the steepest part. However on the flat and mild slopes it did an almost professional job right out of the box. With a little practice the second and third time I used the machine the results improved For me there is a bit of a learning curve.

great for paver stones
5 Star Review   By Brudoug on Home Depot - May 22, 2013

I was looking for an easier way to keep our paver stepping stones from getting over grown with grass. We had been doing it by hand with a cutting tool and let me tell you that is hard work. This edger works great and I actually enjoy using it! Very powerful and simple to use. You know the old axiom...any job is easy with the right tool.

Easy to use
5 Star Review   By beast757 on Home Depot - May 14, 2013

This is the second one of these I have purchased, as the first one lasted 11 years. Light enough to carry around, yet with enough power to cut a nice straight edge. The only downside is that the blades tend to be a bit 'pricey'. All in all, still a good value.

Great Edger. A ton of bang for your buck.
5 Star Review   By KennesawDude on Home Depot - May 13, 2013

More power than expected. Edges my yard nicely. I put it together in 2 mins and was edging my yard in 5. Makes a nice smooth and even cut. I would definitely recommend this product.

this machine doesn't cut a crisp clean edge like a gas edger. It doesn't fine but don't expect a deep clean cut.

Works great!
5 Star Review   By retiredinTucson on Home Depot - Apr 30, 2013

It's a realtime saver. I used a weed wacker to edge, and used a spool each time, the edger is a money saver.

5 Star Review   By jbuf on Home Depot - Apr 30, 2013

The item cuts well the user must have a steady hand so that you cut a straight line. I like it and I will be better the next time since I know how it reacts when I move or lift it..

Designed to Wear Out
1 Star Review   By Dizzie on Home Depot - Apr 23, 2013

My Edge Hog quit working today so I took it apart. The drive gear was worn out because it is made of soft metal. The teeth were worn off and the case was filled with metal shavings. Gears should be made of hardened metal, not soft metal that is designed to fail and require repair or replacement. Part with shipping was over $19 so not worth the cost to repair. In addition, the unit is not very powerful. I will not purchase Black and Decker products again.

Better than anticipated
5 Star Review   By mdrussell24 on Home Depot - Mar 4, 2013

I went to HD to purchase the Echo PAS system for a straight edge trimmer and edger. While looking around I saw this and though "I might as well try it for that price". I am usually fairly adamant on on non corded tools, but the price difference is huge. My brother and I tried it out on my lawn and it made a big difference in just a few minutes! My brother goes, "Man, this little thing works awesome! Do you think your neighbor would mind if I do his lawn; I swill want to use it?" The answer was no. May neighbor did not mind...at all.

Liked the older ones better
2 Star Review   By Bill on Home Depot - Mar 3, 2013

After having several Black & Decker edgers in the past, I am sorry to say that I was very dissatisfied with the way that the newer unit handled. Had to take off the wheel to get the results that I expected. Now the unit has bad brushes and no longer works.

Good electric edger
4 Star Review   By Retired on Home Depot - Dec 11, 2012

The first time I used this edger I had a hard time cutting a straight line with it, but, the more I have used it, about 3 months now, the easier it is to use. It has lots of power and seems to be built very well. The only thing I don't like about it is the depth adjustment. They could have made that much easier to use! I have an old corded electric Black and Decker mower, which is a hand me down, for my front yard, a new battery powered Black and Decker mower for the back yard and this new Black and Decker edger and they all work great. I have two different types of grass in the front and back yards, thats the reason for the two mowers. No more gas!

Great consumer edger
5 Star Review   By JoeHomeowner on Home Depot - Sep 26, 2012

We just moved to a corner lot which had not been edged in the past 5 years. Under $100 and an hour to make it look like a professional had came in. Plenty of power, nice edge guide and no gas. Well worth it for when you will need it.

Edging you lawn
5 Star Review   By Peace on Home Depot - Sep 13, 2012

I was ready to throw it away madder than a cussing preacher. Only because I was not doing it right. I sat on the ground to think about it. As I sat on the ground I realized I had the black handled was on wrong made that change. And stared at the sidewalk and my lawn and it hit me how it was to be done. I handled it with easy my lawn was now edged in know time for this retiree. Love it in the end.

Exactly what I needed, so much better than a weed whacker for edging
5 Star Review   By Bing on Home Depot - Aug 21, 2012

I needed this to replace my old edger that gave me many years of service. Tried to use a weed whacker, too hard on my back. Had to carry the weight of the whacker all the time. This one is very easy to put together, simple height adjustments, powerful and best of all, it is on wheels, now weight to carry. Hope this one will last me a life-time.

Money well spent
4 Star Review   By jmn12 on Home Depot - Aug 19, 2012

After reading several positive reviews on this edger, I picked one up for myself. Yes, the convenience of no electrical cord is nice with the gas powered models, but the thought of saving a few hundred dollars outweighed the convenience. Works great overall. If you have some really rough and overgrown sections you'll have to run the edger over the area a couple of times but it's no issue at all. Easy to assemble, easy to run, and excellent results.

Does the job
4 Star Review   By hibbi on Home Depot - Aug 15, 2012

I really wanted a gas edger but decided against it when I saw the price. The assembly was easy and I was edging within a matter of a few minutes. Hadn't edged in over a year and the edger went through the grass very easily the first time. I have since used it a few more times and it works very well. I have some curved areas I edge and it works well in those areas as well.

Mediocre Quality
3 Star Review   By desertu2 on Home Depot - Aug 14, 2012

I used this tool twice in grass that had not been edged for a few weeks. It appeared to hack at the grass rather than cut it cleanly. At the end of the second session the blade became loose and was simply spinning on the axle but remained in the motor housing. I took it to Home Depot for a return and was sent back to the repair dept. The mechanic put some blue liquid lock on the bolt and tightened everything back into place. He gave it some poiwer and everything appeared to operate as it had before the blade had loosened. I then stated that I still wanted to return it for something with more power and better quality.

I'd Buy Another
5 Star Review   By PigFox on Home Depot - Aug 14, 2012

It was easy to put together and I was edging in no time. The Edge Hog is light and easy to push. The bottom line is this--it leaves a beautiful cut on the edge and it's worth the effort of hooking it up to an electrical cord, sweeping up the cuttings, then putting everything up. The neighbors have commented on how nice the lawn looks. What more do you want?!

5 Star Review   By Josee on Home Depot - Aug 7, 2012

edger iseasy to use. need access to long extension cords, but other than that, I am very glad I bought this product. engine edgers are cumbersome and heavy to wheel around. this is light enough I usually sling over my shoulder when thru.

2 Star Review   By Gerald on Home Depot - Jul 31, 2012

I plugged it in to use it for the third time since I bought it.It ran fine for about 5 minutes. I set it down to clean up a bit, picked it up to continue, and nothing.Wouldn't run at all.I had a String trimmer nearby,so I plugged it in.It worked,so I know there was power available. It's hardly been used.I will now see If Home Depot will take it back.

Great Edger with a great price
5 Star Review   By GaLyn on Home Depot - Jul 29, 2012

We have a fairly large lawn and needed to start doing our own lawn work. We had a string edger that my husband hated using, so I bought this for him. He is extremely pleased with this edger. In his words, "It cuts like a knive through butter". The price was great--far less than a gas powered edger. The quality is good, assembly easy and the Black and Decker name with a two year warranty. What more can you ask for?? We have already recommended it to friends.

Excellent Value For Your Money
4 Star Review   By Goliath on Home Depot - Jul 24, 2012

After you edge your lawn the first time with this and clear all the dirt away, this becomes a breeze to edge with one pass every few weeks! An easy to use, durable, and surprisingly powerful tool... The only complaint is that I wish it had a metal guide near the front of the blade like it does on the rear. If you're not totally straight with your aim you can start to clip the sidewalk. It doesn't do any damage, just a little annoying is all.. Other than that, it's great! I would recommend this to anyone that's skeptical of it being electric or has been trying to decide which unit to buy, but not wanting to spend a lot of money. It's worth it.. Haven't used it as a trencher yet, but I think it will perform just fine..

Powerful and easy to use
5 Star Review   By PcTech on Home Depot - Jul 15, 2012

I have never owned an edger before. For four years I have been watching my neighbors edge their lawns while mine continued to grow over the edges of the sidewalk. It was time to invest in an edger, but wasn't sure whether to go with a weed-eater convertible type with string or the highly rated Edge Hog with a blade. My neighbor recently purchased the type with the string and had commented that it was very difficult to figure out how to use it for edging, and that it took him many long hours. I opted for the blade type, specifically the B&D Edge Hog. I was amazed at how easy it was to set up and use. It did take a little bit of additional time to tackle four years of neglect, but it required very little additional effort. I definitely recommend this product.

Great for Small Yards
5 Star Review   By NCTom on Home Depot - Jul 10, 2012

We have a small yard, and only need an edger for the sidewalk and driveway. This fit our needs perfectly, a gas edger would have been overkill, and I didn't want another gas engine to maintain. Minimal maintenance with this unit, and it's easy to use. The only drawback is the cord, but with the size of our yard it's not an issue.

Better than a weed eater.
5 Star Review   By Wolfy on Home Depot - Jul 10, 2012

We wanted and real lawn edger, not having to use a weed eater to edge. This seems to do the job. It has a blade instead of a line and its electric (corded) so its powerful and quiet. I'm sure it will hold up good since it's just for residential, once a week work.

Edger works just fine and is a very good price. It is light in weight but strong enough to do our yard with no problem.

After reading the reviews I finally decide to get one of this and I can tell you it is amazing!!! My edges were pretty bad and this thing went through it like nothing. It is very simple to assemble and very easy to use. Don't think about; just do it.

Good for Small Yards
4 Star Review   By TheBear on Home Depot - Jun 29, 2012

For the price point, unit performs pretty much as expected. I have a small yard and it is adequate. It would be a chore to use this unit on a large yard. It is not designed for heavy use. I have centipede grass and it required multiple passes to completely edge. Too soon to tell how it will stand up over time.

Edge Hog

After years of neglect on a courner lot, the edger easily helped the clean up. It was easy to use, light weight and did the job! I'm a 55 year old women, with not much experience with lawn equipment. I'm thrilled with the results

Great edger that makes my job quicker and easier.
5 Star Review   By BAH14 on Home Depot - Jun 3, 2012

I am coming from using a spade edger and rotary edger in the past. Those tools actually work well but it takes a lot of time and work. With spade edger, I am jumping on the spade edger like a pogo stick and moving a measly 6 inches at a time. With the rotary edger, you get a tremendous workout but the rotary edger clogs and the wheels don't always spin. And edging with a string trimmer is good just for maintenance of the the edge but not with the first initial edging. With time and effort, those tools work and have pretty nice results but I needed an easier way and the Edge Hog was the answer. First, I went over the edging that I did before and I zoomed over and the edging came out more polished than I ever did before. It looked like it was professionally done. Then I went over the part where the edge had lots of overgrowth with tough dirt. Was I able to go over it in one pass? No. Did I expect to? No because this is tough overgrowth grass with tough roots where I was literally jumping and kicking the spade edger just to dig in. I went over the edge with Edge Hog, used the spade edger to help get a little dig and then went over it one more time with the Edge Hog again. Sure I wish I had a gas powered $300 edger that I can zoom everything in just one swipe but I don't want to spend that much money and this Edge Hog made my lawn job so much easier and quicker even if it takes multiple passes on the initial edging.... After that first tough dig, I am zooming over the edges in a couple minutes with no more multiple passes. You should be too. I heard some cons on here like that they felt the need to push hard against tough dirt (*Don't do that. Let the blade do the work. Slow and steady on the initial edging), Edge Hog not working nicely in wet dirt (*manual says don't use it in moisture/wet environment), swerving? (*use the guide and the 2 black arrows that line up perfectly), multiple passes on initial edging? (*unfortunately that is somewhat expected because it is electric and not the powerful and very expensive gas models... Is it worth to go over a couple times just on the initial edging to save like $200? I think so.) I can't comment about the durability as I haven't had it that long. And I can't comment about the trencher because I haven't tried it yet. If I have issues, I will update this review. I would give this Edge Hog a 4.5 out of 5 and recommend it but don't expect the performance of $200-300 gas powered edgers that go through the INITIAL edging quickly in one swipe. After that initial edging, the edging becomes very easy, very quickly and looks very polished.

Good - but handle not sturdy
4 Star Review   By Lance on Home Depot - May 23, 2012

I used this for both edging around sidewalks and drive and as a trenching tool. It was very easy to switch it from one task to another. It is powerful and the motor bogged down only once or twice throughout the day while in the trenching mode. The only issue I have with it is that it is not sturdy. Although the long pole going up to handle held up to the trenching work, there were occasions when the pole was twisting and I was concerned it would bend.

Edge Hog Electric Edger
2 Star Review   By Candido on Home Depot - May 22, 2012

Assebles easily and its electric! No gas, pulling, smell or noise. It has an adjustment lever for trenching although I dont think its too effective. I used it twice and got the job done. Its annoying to have to use the long extension cord and it should have more power. hopefully it will last forever and then it will be worth it.

Pull up edge guide broke after using edger 4 times.
3 Star Review   By Robert on Home Depot - May 9, 2012

The edger did a great job the 1st 3 times I used it, on the 4th use, the pull up edge guide broke which caused the edger to drag the ground instead of rolling along. I will be taking it next week to a Black & Decker service center for repairs.

Overall Great Edger for Small Jobs
5 Star Review   By Joseph129 on Home Depot - May 8, 2012

I bought this edger to replace a gas-powered edger that quit after two seasons. I was a little bit anxious about using an electric edger due to the need for a long electric cord, but even with a 100' cord, the edger does not draw so many amps that it will not work with a standard 15-amp household circuit. I really like the very heavy-duty and thick blade on this machine. It digs through hard, dry dirt and makes a nice finger-width trench. It is adjustable for depth and has guards to prevent the blade from contacing the sidewalk or driveway while edging. It is easy to transport (by tilting and rolling it on the back wheels). Note: You can't roll it "flat" (on all three wheels) because the blade contacts the surface. Assembly out of the box was simple. Construction seems sold. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase. I have a small-medium size typical neighborhood yard to edge. If you own a landscape business, however, this product is probably not for you.

Awesome product for under 90 bucks!
4 Star Review   By BossHog on Home Depot - May 5, 2012

Just got this today so I can't tell you how long it will last. Took about five minutes to put together, very easy and no tools needed. For the price the handle bar and unit is very sturdy even during use. The weight is very acceptable. Who wants a flimsy piece of junk that will break the first time you put a little pressure on it!!? I noticed the black handle bar can be attached either way for both right or left handed people, very nice. I don't under stand other reviews I read about it hurting their backs. The handle bar has two adjustable slots. I'm about 5' 11" and had it on it's lowest setting and stood perfectly straight. I ran it for a few hours and never once felt fatigued. I haven't edged my yard in about 4 years so the growth was pretty extensive. Once I got used to it, it was extremely easy and zipped right thru the dirt and grass with very minimal bog down. What bog down there was, was due to myself pushing down and forcing it to cut through the really thick spots rather than letting the machine glide over the top and letting it cut through. Once I figured that out I was off to the races, even did the next door neighbors yard. Overall I am very glad I made this purchase. I wish I hadn't waited this long to buy it. I honestly thought edgers were more than this thing was (I should say a good quality edger). I will be using this thing all the time and if I only get a few seasons out of it, I only spent 84 bucks including tax! With a factory two year warranty and a local Home Depot this was a no brainer!! I also own a electric Black&Decker hedge trimmer that I have used for over 7 years now without a single issue!! Another great product and pleased customer. I only gave it 4 stars because I have only used it for the first time today. It feels and runs like it will last a long time though!

Well worth the money
5 Star Review   By Richard on Home Depot - May 5, 2012

I am a guy who reads reviews before purchasing a product. In the case of this edger, after years of using my heavy-duty battery operated weed wacker to edge my front sidwalks I took the plunge on this unit. I could not be any happier with the product after 2 weekend uses. I set it on the deepest cut, which after years of using the week wacker required a lot of dirt to be moved from the edge of the sidewalk. This edger did the job great. Now, each time it will be that much easier to get that professional look now that the trench has been created. Two thumbs up!!

Edge Hog 11 Amp 2-In-1 Electric Landscape Edger
3 Star Review   By RayE on Home Depot - Apr 19, 2012

It works fine if you don't mind rocking back and forth as it only cuts when you pull it toward you. I've had this model (750) for about 2 years and use it approximately every 20 days during spring and summer and it burned out already. For the price it's not too bad but not great either. My last B&D as well as a neighbors worked backwards too.

I wish I hadn't bought it.
1 Star Review   By gearheadenough on Home Depot - Apr 9, 2012

I liked this edger when it worked, but it didn't work long. Within 6 weeks it shrieked and sounded stripped. I took it back to Home Depot and they exchanged it. Again in less than two months it was stripped again. I wanted to know what was going on so I took it apart. There is an unnecessary gear between the motor and the blade. The plate that holds the gear in place is held in place with very small, very fine threaded machine screws and they had stripped out of the aluminum body. Thus the gear was out of place and stripping. I got a new gear and installed it but the bushing the gear rotates in is sloppy and won't hold the gear so that it will mesh with the pinion. Permanent stripping. The machine was no good in less than a season. To fix it would be to replace it and I'm not going to do that.

Great Item
5 Star Review   By PC4CAB on Home Depot - Apr 7, 2012

Used the trenching feature to install an underground electric dog fence. Worked great! Trencher is very easy to setup, and made very accurate cuts in the lawn. Have not used it as an edger yet, but I suspect it would work just as well as the trenching feature.

Very Pleased!
4 Star Review   By Eric on Home Depot - Apr 2, 2012

I have been looking for an edger for about a week now and once I came across this product and read the reviews people wrote about it I decided to give it a try. I recently moved into my first home and trying to compete with my neighbors for the best lawn in my community. Well, this edger will definitely give me an advantage. Since the first time I used it I was very pleased with the ease of it's use and just how well it edged my lawn/sidewalk. Best purchase I have made so far and I don't regret it for a second. In my opinion, it can compete with some of the more expensive gas powered edgers.

5 Star Review   By Mari on Home Depot - Feb 28, 2012

This is the 2nd B & D Hedge Hog I've owned. After not needing to do my own yard-work for a few years, I gave away my original. Now I'm back to owning a home with a small yard and I didn't hesitate in purchasing the same model I had before. Its a reliable product and true to my memory, it does the job. I just find it a little expensive...I would have thought it might have come down in price.

3 Star Review   By Trevor on Home Depot - Nov 1, 2011

Major complaint: You can't see where you're going. The so-called "trenching" is anything but. But for simply edging along sidewalks/driveways, the edger has enough power and torque to get it done.

Does a good job edging except the blade is a little too close to the guide......you have to be careful you don't grind/chip the concrete edge! I'm going to see if I can put a washer/spacer on it to move the blade slightly away from the guide to avoid damaging the concrete edge.
