Ariens 34 inch zero turn mower
5 Star Review   Home Depot

Bought this after comparing to the Toro 32 inch zero turn and because 38 inch tractors are pretty extinct while my gates (which will not accommodate a 42 inch deck) live on. I thought the 14.5 HP B&S might barely be adequate but am pleasantly surprised at the power it provides. I have seen negative comments about the narrow drive tires and truth be told, I would prefer wider ones BUT the narrow tires are adequate and only tear up the lawn if the operator gets carried away. Like any other zero turn it takes a little getting used to, but even with a narrower deck it shaves considerable time off the mowing time required for the same lawn with a 38 inch tractor. The only bad thing about it is that is does not have a hitch for attaching a trailer in the 34 inch model but one can be ordered as an accessory.

it was delivered on time with my teaching how to operate. so far I haven't found anything negative to say about the mower except don't do a 180 when stopped as it will tear up your lawn with the stopped wheel. again I love it

1 Star Review   By Mower on Home Depot - Jul 6, 2012

I purchased this mower over two years ago. A couple of weeks ago a magnet broke off the fly wheel and destroyed the alternator and ripped off two mounting towers from the cylinder assembly. If I do the work, that is about $500 in parts alone. I see that they are currently using a 14.5 hp instead of the 13.5 hp they originally installed. Hopefully this addresses power issues I had after installing the bagger. I am currently attempting to get this fixed under the warranty but I think the engine warranty is for two years.I am careful with all of my vehicles/mowers and conduct preventive maintenance and timely repairs and services. This is just a factory defect. This mower has about 60-70 hours of use. My last 5hp Briggs and Stratton lasted 20 years. I guess they don't build them like they used to. A replacement engine is the most economical choice at this point. I am just afraid to install another Briggs and Stratton. I initially had problems with the blade belts falling off and had to make adjustments, but not before the belts were damaged. They will soon require replacement. The bagger is very expensive and required extensive modifications to work properly. In addition, the bagger mount had to modified to accommodate a tow bracket. The blades are soft and require constant sharpening or replacement.

Not Real fast, but it starts every time and gets the job done. The skinny tires in the rear leave ruts sometimes. An hour meter and headlight would be nice.

over all a good zero turn
4 Star Review   By raytechinc on Home Depot - Mar 20, 2012

Pros Good power even with the Bagger installed. Foot pedal for adjusting the mower deck height very nice. Comfortable seat. Bagger has good vacuum power. Cons Rear tires are to narrow. if you turn to quick they tear up the grass. the engine cooling intake area prone to clogging with clippings when using bagger. so you have to make sure to clean it when you dump the Bags. A little more about bagger. I have been using it to pickup leaves that have collected in areas of my yard for years to the point that they are turning in to dust. I have filled up about 30 times (2000 lbs.) so far. It is able to fill the bags in less than 5 minutes when pushed but sometimes clogs the hose if you push to fast.

the most amazing machine i have owned
5 Star Review   By scott on Home Depot - Nov 26, 2011

I love machines, and I have to cut grass. Now I love to cut grass with my favorite machine. I have a lot of tools in my shop and I appreciate the precision, accuracy, and power of an excellent tool. The precision control and power of the Zoom 34 is something I had never experienced in a mower, yet realized within just a few minutes of practicing. I purchased the non-powered bagger last month thinking it might be able to handle grass clippings. However, I just cleaned up my hilly, 1 acre plot from fallen, wet oak leaves 6" thick in 2 hours, no kidding. The mulching attachment really works, and I was and still am amazed with its suction and mulching capability. An impressive machine. BTW, this is the first time have ever written a review for a tool. That's how impressed I am.

This product should not be considered a lawnmower
1 Star Review   By JoeM on Home Depot - Nov 26, 2011

This is by far the worst "lawn equipment" I ever purchased. The belt would jump off the pulleys with the least bit of friction (tall grass). Have had to pull my push mower out several times to finish the job. Bought in November one year and sold it in the summer of the next year. Charged half what I paid to get rid of it so I could buy a real mower. Absolutely no traction at all, have seen Tonka toys with wider rear tires. I basically purchased the mower because it was from a reputable company and made in America. I see now, it's not about where it was made or assembled, but the quality of the product. It's fun to ride on and play with but so is a go-kart, as far as cutting your lawn, they both do about the same except the go-kart was built for fun not mowing. Not only will you have problems from day one, but to add to your frustration, no one will work on them, not even the company you purchased it from. No wonder there has been about a $600.00 dollar price drop, Ariens even want to hurry up and get rid of them. STAY FAR AWAY.

A bad experience
1 Star Review   By Bolene on Home Depot - Nov 15, 2011

The mower was delevered to me with a known problem but without my being informed. When I complaned about the problem no one seemed interested in solving the problem as they didn't seem to know how to. I am now waiting for HD to pick up the mower.

Just bad Luck?
1 Star Review   By HappywithSS3200 on Home Depot - Oct 23, 2011

I purchased an Ariens Zoom 34 ZT back in Oct. The first one arrived with striped paint and a rust spot (half foot long, 1/3 inch wide) on the engine. I simple refused the shipment. The replacement came about 2 weeks later. It worked for 15 minutes and suddenly the engine shut off. It couldn't be revived after checking the manuals for all potential issues. And it wasn't wise to get my hands dirty just to risk the warranty. The ridiculous thing was nobody want to fix this thing, not the dealer who assembled the mower, not Ariens, not the Briggs and Stratton. They all found possible ways to blame this issue on others. So, I had to call homedepot to take it back. They responsibly did so (I gave homedepot a 5 star for this). Imagine if the break down happened a few month later and I had to go through the warranty process. What a nightmre it could have been. I almost felt really lucky that it broke down in 15 minutes so I can return it as quickly as I can. It definitely my better choice to spend my 2K on a different brand. No Ariens Mower for me anymore!

Ariens Zoom 34" Zero Turn Mower
5 Star Review   By Darrel on Home Depot - Oct 18, 2011

I have only used this mower a couple of times so far, but my lot is about an acre, so it got a good test. I am very satisfied with the way it handles, and like the 34" cutting width because it allows me to enter the back yard through a small gate rather than having to go all the way to the rear side of the lot to go through our double gate, so if access through a gate is a problem for you, this mower will actually go through a standard 36" gate with little trouble. Adjusting the cutting height is simple with the foot control on the deck, and it seems to cut very smoothly and evenly, considering it has no wheels on the mowing deck itself. Fuel tank is more than adequate at 2 1/2 gallons. I am more than happy with this mower.

Loving it so far!
5 Star Review   By Notyouraveragegrandma on Home Depot - Oct 17, 2011

This is my first summer using the Zoom 34. I love just about everything about this mower with the exception that it has the tendency to rip up the lawn a bit if I make too sudden of a turn. I mulch and I do have to mow more frequently or the mower does leave tracks of grass behind. Also this being my first fall clean-up I'm finding that the mower doesn't "pick-up" the leaves and pine needles like I'm used to when I bagged but overall it is a very nice machine.

This mower is easy to use, and does a terrific job!
4 Star Review   By HappyCamper1 on Home Depot - Oct 4, 2011

This is the best riding mower I have ever owned.I am still getting used to handling the mower, but it is great for areas with a lot of trees and bushes, which I have. I have a 3 acre lot with a lot of front landscaping, and trees in the back. This mower made it simple to maneuver around all the trees and bushes without having to make a big loop to mow completely around everything. I only have a few issues; It is a little loud, and seems to use a lot of gas, but I am hoping that is because it is brand new and needs a little more running time. It is also an extremely bumpy ride, but the value and ease of use far outweigh these few things.

Superb Amercian built mower
5 Star Review   By VainSaw on Home Depot - Jun 23, 2011

If you've never driven a zero-turn mower before it takes some getting used to. Managed to drive mine off a hill. Found out the hard way that fortunately this mower has a pressure sensor in the seat so it will shut off as soon as you stand up (or jump off!). Easy to use once you get the hang of it. Even at only 14.5 HP the Zoom is actually quite fast at full throttle (probably close to 10mph). It can climb fairly steep slopes with good traction. Has a Brigs and Stratton engine and comes with a high quality cylindrical air filter found on commercial units. Solid steel welded body design. Has a fair amount of vibration on bumpy surfaces. I have about 1/3 acre of grass to cut and it used to take me about 1 1/2 hours by my manual self-propelled. With the Zoom it now only takes about 1/2 hour. With the mulch kit it mulches nicely as long as the grass is dry (apparently typical of riding mowers) and even better when the deck height adjustment is set to maximum. I prefer cutting my grass longer so I leave the deck height at max. The grass looks an order of magnitude better than with my Cub Cadet self-propelled. Oh, and made in the USA! Note on installing/replacing blades (necessary with mulch kit installation): since there is no way to lock down the blades from turning to get the blade shaft bolts off, you need to prevent the blades from turning. I did this by inserting a screwdriver through the holes in the deck and propping the blades against the screwdriver to prevent the blades from turning. Then you can use a rachet and socket to remove the bolts from the shaft.

All I hoped for...
5 Star Review   By Randyonewheel on Home Depot - Jun 5, 2011

A little tricky learning the zero turn, (a few lawn dirt spots will attest to that) but seem to have mastered it now. Wish the engine had an oil filter...Loud and fast, this mower is the Harley of zero turn non-commercial mowers. Expected it to be underpowered with the 14 HP, but rarely will bog down. Very happy!

Great little mower for smaller yards
5 Star Review   By TWWW on Home Depot - May 29, 2011

I did alot of research on zero turn mowers.I was looking to purchase one for my smaller city lot. This Ariens mower fit the bill. The mower cut very nicely. It was pretty easy to learn as I have never owned a zero turn rider. It does lack some power on hills so if you have any steep hills consider a more powerful engine on a larger unit. Overall though for my yard this unit has enough power to get the job done. I would reccomend this unit to anybody with a smaller yard that does not have steep hills to climb. Its actually fun to cut the grass now!!!!

Good for the price
4 Star Review   By reedmj on Home Depot - May 2, 2011

This mower is great for the price. It can fit through a normal sized gate which is great for fenced in areas. I have no complaints about it. Obviously it is a smaller deck size so it does take slightly longer, but it makes up the time in manuverability. It is easy to cut around something as small a flagpole. The one con that I find with this mower is that the rear wheels are narrow and it is very easy to make ruts if you aren't careful when mowing. Other than that, it is a great mower!

great value
5 Star Review   By Fireguy2 on Home Depot - Apr 9, 2011

I ordered this mower online after about a year of research. I compared this mower with a Toro. This model was about $700 cheaper. It only took about a week from time of order to time of delivery. It goes from the factory directly to a local lawnmower shop. They test it out and then set up a delivery time convenient for you. I have only used it one time so far. Last year it took nearly 90 mins to mow with a 22 inch walk behind. With the Zoom 34 I was done in about 30 mins. The mower has plenty of power for a smaller model. It cuts nice and even. I would definately recommend this particular mower for anyone who has a medium sized lawn that doesn't wanna spend half the day walking it.
