Broken in 15 minutes
2 Star Review   By Trent on Home Depot - Jun 6, 2013

While the product appeared fairly well made and was easy to assemble, the neck crumpled within 15 minutes of light use on soft soil after rain. The neck is made of a light gauge metal and the bends in the design create weak points. Home Depot had a new part sent to me right away, and I'm now having a brace welded to it to reinforce where it bent. Other than the weak neck, the product appears pretty decent.

Product works good but takes a little time to assemble, great value!!
5 Star Review   By stan3759 on Home Depot - May 28, 2013

The 48in tow plug aerator from Agi-Fabs takes some time to assemble. The aerator works good as long as the ground is somewhat soft like the day after a heavy rain for the three inch penetration. It still works when ground is hard but it only goes in about an inch. It is the best product for the money.

Took 2 hours to assemble, but works great.
5 Star Review   By LWSinSpokane on Home Depot - May 14, 2013

After assemble I loaded 70 pounds of weight on the unit and then used a 10 hp lawn tractor to pull around the yard which is on a hill. The Aerator worked will. Have use only once as I purchased it less than a month ago.

Does a great job
5 Star Review   By paul on Home Depot - Apr 30, 2013

Very happy with this purchase. Does a great job of pulling plugs out of the lawn. If your lawn is as hard as concrete and not absorbing nutrients this is a must have in your lawn care arsenal. My lawn took off after one good aeration followed up with a little lime as opposed to years of expensive lawn care weed and feeds that just run off the surface and down the drainage pipes. Also great for overseeding as the seeds fall right into the holes and make direct contact with the soil. The seeds also have somewhere to go if it rains too hard rather than them getting washed away.

Good for the price
4 Star Review   By podjo1 on Home Depot - Apr 30, 2013

After researching the other aerators, this one turned out to be the best value. It was a bear to assemble but patience helps. The tines are definitely sharp. It takes weight to really get the tines to go deep and wet ground helps but it did a good job on my yard which is sloped and rocky in some places. The only complaint is that you have to get off the mower to reach the handle to raise the tines. Or my arms are just to short. Good product though.

Great product that works well.
5 Star Review   By ChurchLawn on Home Depot - Apr 24, 2013

Although the box was in poor condition when the aerator arrived, all the pieces were there and undamaged. I found it easy to follow the directions and the assembly went well. I hooked it to my lawn tractor, set 2 concrete blocks on top and began to aerate. I was very pleased with the performance. The plugs were thrown out onto the lawn as expected and I didn't experience any problems. The unit is very well built and heavy duty and should last a long time.

Good, inexpensive plug aerator
4 Star Review   By sblaker on Home Depot - Apr 18, 2013

Ive used this aerator once and am happy with its performance so far. Assembly was fairly easy, and the unit seems to be solidly built. It works well on damp soil, I used it the day after it had rained. I figured out that it works best if you load the weight tray with lots of weight and move slowly when using it. I had over 250 lbs on mine (though I think its only rated for 140lbs.) and it seemed to work ok, pulled 2-3 inch plugs out of the ground. It pulled pretty easily behind my 20hp lawn tractor. Home depot shipped it to my front door in just a few days for free! I would recommend this product.

be ready for days of assembly!
4 Star Review   By Dave on Home Depot - Apr 2, 2013

OK, I expected some assembly required, but the manufacturer could have made it a little easier by reducing the number of parts and simplifying the assembly. Video instructions on the website were helpful. The assembled product did a good job, but required a lot of added weight to properly penetrate the soil. The engagement lever is almost impossible to use without de-mounting the lawn tractor to move it, which can grow tiresome quickly. On second thought I should have gotten a narrower version that would fit thru a standard gate easily.

works as expected
5 Star Review   By Fred on Home Depot - Mar 27, 2013

Mine arrived in excellent shape. box in one piece and all parts there. I assembled without putting the spikes on until the last step turned upside down. Tried that after reading other reviews. It did not affect the assembly IMO and was safer when tightening all the bolts for the handle and its brace and center brace. there are burrs on the spikes from sharpening and even brushing them will result in a scrape. Plugs were anywhere from 1" to 2.5". We have red clay

Does the job!
5 Star Review   By whalebellyscl747087 on Home Depot - Mar 27, 2013

Assembled in about an hour. Weighed it down with two sixty lb. Bags of sand and it plugged nice two to three inch plugs of good old red Alabama clay. Will easily sink off in muddy spots in yard so avoid towing in saturated areas of your yard. It done exactly what I needed it to do and can't wait until it dries out to use again.

Great product, does the work it is supposed to do.
5 Star Review   By Hobbyfarmer on Home Depot - Mar 19, 2013

Home Depot delivered this item in a reasonable amount of time. It was a little difficult to assemble but no missing parts or problems. I attached it to my riding lawn mower - added some weight to the tray as suggested in the instructions. The aerator worked perfectly for my soil which is heavy clay. I expected to have to clear the plugs but the machine kept plugging - no jams!

great quality aerator
5 Star Review   By wally on Home Depot - Dec 25, 2012

i have nothing but good things to say about my agri fab tow plug aerator . the aerator was delivered to the house in an extra heavy cardboard box. i really enjoyed the assembly , the instruction were very easy to follow. i would recommend using a work bench to assemble the plug cutters onto the axle.good advice where a long sleeve shirt and work gloves ! those cutters are sharp !!!then use the shipping carton for assembling the weight box . this way when you call the wife out to the shed to show it off it will look real nice . now for the operation . hooked it up to the riding mower and made a few laps around the yard , with the cutters in the raised position. i did that just to make sure the lever stays engaged. worked good don't want to aerate any concrete ! next released the lever and did a lap without weight . pulled out 1' plugs .finally i loaded the weight tray with 2 concrete flower pots . oh yea remember that shipping carton ? cut it into 2 pieces that will fit in the tray. this way your plug tiller will not get scratched up .well with the added weight the plug tiller turned into a hole plugging monster about 2inches deep. it pulled nice and didn't have any rattles or squeaks. in my opinion this is one of the best well built products you can still purchase that is still made in the USA .

Great aerator for the price
5 Star Review   By Geddy on Home Depot - Nov 6, 2012

This aerator takes a while to assemble, but the directions are very clear and the parts appear to be high quality. With 80 pounds of ballast in the tray, the aerator did a fine job pulling plugs from my very compacted soil. I look forward to using this for years.

Missing parts and poor packaging, but good areator
4 Star Review   By Mike on Home Depot - Oct 16, 2012

Aerator was delivered (on time) but with missing parts and poor packaging. Small parts were not packaged and laying in the box. This is a good aerator but is suffering in reviews due to packing issues? Not smart Agri fab! Only other complaint was in directions in installing "spacers" under tray. Not clear at all. Used 4 cinder blocks for weight and aerator performed well.

1 Star Review   By KingBee on Home Depot - Oct 16, 2012

Long time to assemble. Missing parts for assembly Can't hold the recommended weight of 140 pounds as this forces the wheels to come out of the locked position. Low grade metal construction. Would not recommend or buy again.

This product exceeded quality expectations
5 Star Review   By TomH on Home Depot - Oct 16, 2012

This product far exceeded expectations in terms of both weight and quality. It is definately heavy duty piece of equipment. Be prepared though to spend a good two hours in assembly and follow instructions closely to avoid back tracking. Lots of parts so best to lay them out by size etc. But, one change I would make in assembly would be to install the 32 aerator knives as a final step rather than first step. My initial use only produced inconsistent sized plugs with largest being an inch and a half which I attribute to lawn being a little dry. It was loaded with maximum weight. Product was shipped as promised. Based upon my experiece thus far I would definately recommend this product.

A great product with only a minor flaw
5 Star Review   By Aerator on Home Depot - Oct 16, 2012

Great product. Actually fairly easy to assemble (takes about an hour). The aerator is fairly heavy but will still require added weight to really create nice plugs (the built-in tray easily allows for that). I've very little complain to express on this product, aside from one minor flaw. Because it is absolutely a bad idea to use this machine while crossing driveways or when backing up, the knives need to be lifted fairly often. This cannot be done while sitting on the tractor since the handle is way too short. This is not really a problem and certainly not a show stopper but maybe something that could be remedied in the future.

Seems well made, quality construction
4 Star Review   By jack32 on Home Depot - Oct 2, 2012

Delivered on time. However, box arrived with holes caused by the shaft being too long for the size box. Plastic bag inside holding the nuts and bolts of thin plastic had ripped open and parts strewn throughout. In fact, I found a couple of parts which had fallen out of the hole in the box in the driveway where the box was dropped off. I lined up all the parts per instructions and a few were missing, as others have reported. You would think they would have cured the packaging problem by now after so many complaints. I called customer service and they promptly sent the missing parts. Assembly was no problem; just follow directions. Parts are sharp, but I didn't use gloves and no cuts. Just be careful. I loaded a bag of sand and two cinder blocks on the tray, probably > 100 lbs total (lay down a protective cover so the tray doesn't get scratched - I used part of the cardboard delivery box). I used the aerator after some rain the previous day as suggested. Maybe my lawn is very compacted because one pass did not seem to pull enough plugs. I went over most a second time. The plugs were 1 1/2 - 2", none were 3". Fertilized the next day and the lawn looks good after a couple of weeks. The product seems solid and hopefully will last a long time based on two expected uses per year. Overall satisfied.

Happy Customer
5 Star Review   By HandyAndy on Home Depot - Sep 27, 2012

Works great without breaking the bank. I appreciate the pneumatic tires for short turns and transitions to concrete. After spreading seed following the aeration, grass was growing in days from the broken ground. Assembly is required; be aware, if that's not your thing.

Good Aerator at a good price
4 Star Review   By garagesuds on Home Depot - Sep 14, 2012

I knew what I was getting when I bought this. Very simple design and great price. Using this product is mostly about timing. Wait for some rain, add 120+ lbs, take advantage of soft soil and you will be happy with performance. Worst summer in decades in cenral Indiana. Just had to wait for some late summer rain and take my time. The only thing I don't like about the design is the deck handle. I can drop the deck while sitting on the mower, but can't reach the handle to pull the blades up(and I have insanely long arms). Nice product overall.

Excellent product for money
4 Star Review   By Trevor on Home Depot - Aug 19, 2012

I have used this product for 3 years commercially and has worked very well. I was hoping for only 2 seasons but it is working great and has a lot of life left in it. The only thing that failed was one tire went flat....thats it. I tow it behind my Toro Zmaster and I am able to back it into tight places and really plug a lot of 2 in holes into the ground. This is a great product and have told many of my colleagues about it. It was easy to put together, no issues. Save a few thousand dollars and get this aerator.

3 Star Review   By Ridgerunner on Home Depot - Aug 7, 2012

The aerator performs very well. It was easy to assemble, very well illustrated instructions. My only problem was missing parts. The box arrived in terrible condition, beaten up and holes all over. Six or eight bolts and nuts were missing along with a couple of short spacers.

Great for the price!
5 Star Review   Home Depot

Great product with clear directions to assemble. It took me about 1 1/2 hours to fully assemble without an assistant. There is a video on the mfr's website to assist with assembly which I thought was pretty cool even though the paper directions were clear as well. TIPS: Assemble the unit wearing gloves, long sleeves, pants, and good shoes. You will have to maneuver your body in close proximity to the tines - I cut myself several times because I did not wear appropriate clothes to assemble. I plan to use a rubberized spray coating on the block surface to aid in anti-slide and for protection against scratches that may lead to rust.

Food plot maker
4 Star Review   By GreenDumb on Home Depot - Jul 17, 2012

It works great, just little difficult to assemble. You will need a second person to assist with the assembly. FYI I bought mine to assist in make food plots. I cut the grass real low, then ran the aerator over the ground, making several passes to expose the soil. Seems to work fine

It Works!
4 Star Review   By JAM5387 on Home Depot - Jul 1, 2012

Make sure you use it after a day after a good rain. You also have to make several passes to get sufficient plugs. Use it once and you are already ahead of what someone would charge you to do it for you.

This aerator works very well. It takes nice plugs out of the ground (2" in wet and 1" in very dry). Very large and cumbersome to store.

Easy to use
5 Star Review   By DrAjay420 on Home Depot - Jun 13, 2012

Strongly recommend wearing gloves while you assemble this product. Worked like a champ, and made pulling 2-3 inch plugs easy with limited weight added on top. Strongly recommend using this product after it has rained and the ground is soft. The packaging could have been better as the box was all beat up when it arrived, although it arrived on time. Luckily nothing was damaged or missing. I would buy again.

Not bad. Home Depot needs help with shipping
4 Star Review   By mike142 on Home Depot - Jun 12, 2012

Waited for product to arrive. Once it showed up, the box looked like it was drug behind the UPS truck for 5 miles. Lots of missing parts. Happened with the Thatcher I ordered a month ago as well. Other then that, it is a good unit. Could use a bit stronger wheel attachment points to handle some weight.

Does what it's supposed to do very well
5 Star Review   By Eric on Home Depot - May 29, 2012

The aerator arrived intact in its carton. The packaging allows pieces to slide around, so some scratches - no big deal unless you plan to enter your aerator in a show. It took a couple hours to put together. The plug blades are very sharp so look out... My riding tractor pulled this easily with about 100 pounds of blocks and made nice holes. I overseeded, got some good rain and now have better grass in bare spots than ever before. Much better than the self-propelled rentals I've used before - faster and easier to maneuver = more aeration in the lawn and better grass.

Appears to be good quality attachment with excellent price
4 Star Review   By Gsquatch on Home Depot - May 22, 2012

This is well built. All metal construction. The one negative I had seen in the reviews before I bought it was concerning the assembly of the product. Make sure you've got a couple hours set aside to put it together. It will take time. Once assembled it performs admirably. I've only used it once. I assume it will stand the test of time because it is so well built. Can't beat the price!

Straight-forward assembly. Works well, easy to operate.
4 Star Review   By Dani on Home Depot - May 22, 2012

Assembly was relatively easy; the assembly instructions were pretty clear. Assembly would be simpler if only one spacer were used on tray bolts. No problems operating the unit in damp soil, whether compacted or not. Tray is just the right size for concrete blocks.

A Pleasant Surprise
5 Star Review   By OB1974 on Home Depot - May 20, 2012

I needed an aerator for my back yard lawn, which is about 5.000 sq ft. I could have rented one for $80 per day, but knew I'd use one at least twice a year. After considering the available products, I chose the AgriFab 48". After ordering it on-line, it arrived in 5 days. The box was totally in tact, unlike several reviewer's experiences. All the parts were included and the quality of the workmanship was spot on. It took me about an hour and a half to put it together. The on-line videos and instruction manual were probably the best I have come across in many years. The price I paid was $20 less than a leading hardware chain, and after researching a major on-line vendor that sells lots of products, it just made sense to purchase this item at Home Depot. There was no shipping charge for UPS delivery, which also saved a considerable amount of money. I used the aerator to prepare my yard for new hydro-seed. The soil was somewhat hard, but the product worked as described by many viewers and on-line videos. I used to 60 lb. bags of sand and didn't need to strap them to the frame. Occasionally the wheel lowering handle started to slide back, so I jut bungied it in place. It cleans up easy, and having rubber inflatable tires makes this a good quality product. I used a John Deere riding mower to tow it, and just kept it at slow speed and made wide turns as recommended by the manufacture. If you have a large area to aerate and plan on using it more than once, its worth the price.

Solid
4 Star Review   By oopsiedaisy on Home Depot - May 8, 2012

The thing pulls around the yard quite nicely. The plug size is pretty accurate at 3 inches, which seems deep enough for our lawn. It's pretty sturdy, so I'm sure it'll hold up very well over the years. The only flaw I can think of is that I had to attach a rope to the lever that raises it onto the wheels. Without the rope, there's no way I could reach the lever from the seat of the mower.

Aerator is good product and made in USA
4 Star Review   By Joe5 on Home Depot - May 8, 2012

I've only used it once so far but it did a reasonable job. I loaded it with 3 - 40 Lb bags of water softener salt (max weight is 140 Lb) but I would have preferred the plugs to be a little deeper - I'd say they averaged 1-1/2". The ground was a little hard so I'm going to try again after a good rain. I'm also going to add grease fittings to the knife Assembly since there is no good way to lubricate the shaft. Pros: Relatively well made. Good value. Made in USA. Works fairly well. Easy, though somewhat time consuming, to assemble (be careful, knives are sharp). Shipped quick. Cons. Lever that raises aerator knives can't be reached from tractor seat. Box arrived fairly beat up - fortunately no pieces were missing.

GREAT value, well built.
5 Star Review   Home Depot

I did a LOT of research on core aerators before I bought this one. Compared to other aerators that I saw in some local stores, this one is far superior. -The weight tray and frame are made from HEAVY gauge metal. Seemed much thicker than some of the other ones I saw in a similar price range. -The overall width of this one was wider -The price on this one was tough to beat. Some comments -Some people have complained that it takes forever to put together. It took me about an hour. I have a very complete tool set, and made ample use of an impact driver when tightening up the spade bolts. There's 36 spade bolts to be tightened, so if you set them all by hand, then go back and tighten with power tools, that cuts A LOT of time off the install. -Be careful with the order in which you put the spacers and spade assemblies on the axle shaft. There is a correct order. -Be careful with the spades...they're SHARP. I cut myself 2x putting it together. Overall, I'm very happy with this aerator. The value was phenomenal. Great price, free shipping, quality build. I put 4 cinder blocks on it for weight. The one modification I did make was to add a pair of tie-down hooks so I could hold the blocks down with some ratchet straps. Cost me $4 and about 10 minutes to drill some holes in the tray and mount them. If you use ratchet straps to hold down the cinder blocks, put some cardboard or something between the blocks and the straps or the corner of the blocks will wear though your straps. I aerated my 2.6 acre lawn while I mowed without any problems. I've got a heavy clay soil with a lot of rocks. I definitely saw the aerator go over exposed rocks without bending the spades, so that's a plus. Again, great buy. I'm very happy.

Excellent aerator for the money
4 Star Review   By Dutchpaintman on Home Depot - May 1, 2012

pros--Easy to use and does an excellent job of taking 2" - 3" plugs out of hard clay lawn. 4 cement blocks push the spikes in the lawn good. Need enough HP and weight to pull it on any incline. cons--Wheels are cheap and bend easy. Will need to replace sometime. Takes time to put together 300+ parts in the box. Shipper damaged box. Retaped. 2 bolts missing

I did some research and finally chose this aerator. Product was easy to assemble and worked as advertised. I covered half an acre in about an hour and a half. Fulfills Its Purpose
5 Star Review   By 59YearOldGeezer on Home Depot - Apr 26, 2012

Ordered on Sunday, shipped from IL on Monday, received in NY on Wednesday. Carton was a bit damaged, but all parts were there. Agri-Fab does need a packaging engineer to design a Styrofoam or corrugated insert to hold the parts. After I got my tools together it took 1 hour and 37 minutes to assemble the aerator. The instructions were perfect; all you have to do is read them and look at the illustrations. Agri-Fab.com has a series of assembly videos if you need more. Recommend sockets and ratchet plus 3" extension in addition to the wrenches in all 4 sizes the instructions list. Gloves and a heavy long sleeve shirt/jacket are not a bad idea due to the sharp knives. I didn't - one small cut. Towed the aerator with my 25 year old 8 HP rear engine rider. Used 2 rubber bungees to hold two heavy concrete blocks on the tray after padding it with old towels. Pulled out 2" plugs. Had to remember the aerator is a lot wider than the mowing deck. Worked exactly as expected.

Great Product that Gets the Job Done
5 Star Review   By Rappo on Home Depot - Apr 16, 2012

Product performed as advertised. Product arrived in a short amount of time, as expected. Box was torn up in shipping. This resulted in the contents missing a nut. After a short trip to a hardware store, I was back on track. Assembly Instructions were straight forward and easy to follow. Took about about 2 hours to assembly. On my first use, I was thrilled with the results. It pulled nice 3" cores consistantly. Product is a quality product at a reasonable price.

Good overall -- wheels not as pictured and described
4 Star Review   By Dave on Home Depot - Apr 7, 2012

Overall, this aerator is well built with thick strong steel, except for the tow bar. The wheels packed with mine are not as pictured on line, on the box, in the assembly instructions, nor as described (see photos). They are described and shown to be 10" round by 4" wide with a wide looking turf tread, but mine are only 3" wide with a narrow, rounded, wheelbarrow-like tread. They ARE pneumatic, and do have bearings, but are far narrower and cheaper looking than expected. The tow bar is surprisingly light weight and of thin gauge metal, compared to the rest of the aerator. While I expect it to work fine in normal forward use, I would NOT recommend backing up even a little bit while aerating, or it may bend or fold as described by another reviewer. The box arrived in poor condition with several holes, damaged from the inside by the sharp contents tossed freely around inside -- perhaps the manufacturer should bind them together with some fiberglass packing tape, or indiviually box some of the contents within the box. The hardware parts bag was also torn open, but surprisingly, all of the small parts from it were found rolling around somewhere within the box -- none were missing. Overall I expect the aerator to work well, but I deduct some quality points due to the lower-grade wheels, and the somewhat thinly made tow bar.

Plug aerates like a professional lawn service for a fraction of the cost.
5 Star Review   By HudsonLawnman on Home Depot - Apr 3, 2012

The assembly instructions were easy to follow and the parts went together very easily. It did take about 2 hours to sort it all out and assemble but the time went by quickly. Using the aerator was easy. I would recommed using at least 100 lbs of weight and waiting until the ground is relativly soft before aerating. I used 4 bags of water softener salt strapped to the paltform so I wouldn't have cinder blocks laying around all year. The plugs it pulls out are about 2.5 to 3 inches long even in compacted high traffic areas of your lawn. I aerated a couple of days before spreading a pre-emergent and grabgrass control and I can see an improvement in my lawn in just 2 weeks.

AGRI-FAB vs. BRINLY-HARDY
4 Star Review   By BirdHunter on Home Depot - Mar 28, 2012

AGRI-FAB 48" (wider than Brinly): 13 gauge steel box (thicker than Brinly) 12 gauge steel knives (thicker than Brinly) The square plates have 4 "spot-welds" to attach them to the spindles. (worse than Brinly). Spindles rotate on plastic split bearings. Pneumatic tire pressure is adjustable. 3-year warranty (better than Brinly) Agri-Fab did not respond to repeated e-mail inquiries for technical information. BRINLY-HARDY 40": 14 gauge steel box 16 gauge steel knives The square plates are welded 360 degrees around each spindle. Spindles rotate on plastic bushings. Tires are semi-pneumatic; not inflated and can not adjust pressure. 2-year warranty Brinly customer service was much more responsive to questions via e-mail.

Good product, Great value
4 Star Review   By Turfman on Home Depot - Mar 27, 2012

Very pleased with the aerator after the first two uses. It works well and the yard is now littered with plugs (a good thing.) Assembly wasn't as difficult as previous reviewers have indicated. There were a couple of steps where the instructions weren't particularly clear, but all in they are well written with good pictures. The aerator will have paid for itself after I use it again this fall. I expect it to provide several years of good service.

For the money, an excellent piece of gear
4 Star Review   By al6336 on Home Depot - Dec 27, 2011

For the money, an excellent piece of gear. I have used professional grade aerators in the past. Pro grade are made to be used nonstop and take a beating. They are also very expensive to buy or rent. This is definitely a home owner grade piece of gear, but an excellent home owner grade piece of gear. It is also economical. Home Depot rents powered aerators in my area for about $75 a day. The Agri-Fab aerator pays for itself in about two uses. Lots of parts to assemble, but not difficult. I live in north Texas and have various types of soil ranging from rocky to hard clay. On average, this aerator operates as advertised for depth of plugs.

This aerator took two hours to assemble and did a good job. A good value. Don't know if it would hold up for commercial applications, but it is more than enough for a home owner, even with a large yard like mine. The wheel bearings are not robust enough, but that only affects transport, not the aeration performance.

4 Star Review   By dogtrainer on Home Depot - Nov 8, 2011

When our lawn care specialist told us we needed to core aerate,he suggested we go to Home Depot and purchase one for around $200. Since they did not carry them in the store I purchased on- line with some reservations as to how sturdy this machine might be. Much to my surprise, it is very heavy duty and did a great job on our lawn. Picked up 2"cores. Best to do it when the lawn is damp. The only two draws back of this machine are: you cannot raise or lower it from the mower and it takes about 2 hrs. to assemble. Also, the packing is too flimsey and you are in dange of losing nuts and bolts during shipping. Several other people remarked that they had missing parts. We had only a couple of washers missing so they were easily replaced. These are the reasons I gave it 4 stars and not 5.

Great aerator
5 Star Review   By Chris on Home Depot - Nov 8, 2011

I just love this machine. I have 3 acres, and didn't take no time to double pass it with this aerator. The only complaint I have is it is a bit challenging and confusing to put together. I had to grind about 1/4 inch off the bottom of the trip handle to fit it since it was fabricated too long. Pay close attention to the diagrams, keep a measuring tape handy to measure the length of each spacer when instructed to install. I like the fact that every two rows of plugs turn independently of the rest therefore doing less damage to the yard on turns. Heavy duty parts and hardware came in the box. It should last many years of trouble free use.

4 Star Review   By Jimmy on Home Depot - Oct 25, 2011

Well after using it the first time it was more than what I needed. My yard is not that big but if I had an acre or two it would be a piece of cake. I used 180# weights and the ground was moist (rained 2 days earlier). The 48" dug deep into the soil since I used 160 instaid of 160# but you need a strong engine especially when going uphill. I have 22hp and it held up except when I have wheel spin.... Get on at HD before they find out it was a steal ......

4 Star Review   By Louwee on Home Depot - Oct 25, 2011

I new that I would have to assemble the aerator, however, I am 65 and do not have a lot of tools. Assembly is relatively easy with the right tools. It is more challenging with one socket wrench and a pair of pliers. I also ended up in awkward positions during assembly. That being said, it works well. I am pleased with it and would recommend it as a very good alternative to paying a service to do aeration.

Easy to use, get's the job done, good value.
4 Star Review   By JoeC on Home Depot - Oct 23, 2011

Took me over 2 hours to assemble the aerator. Instructions are easy to follow but plan on 2 or more hours for assembly. The aerator works great, but I don't like the transport wheel design. The instructions say to leave the bolt and nut that fastens each wheel loose enough so that they can spin freely. The problem I encountered is if you leave the wheel nut too loose, it tends to loosen along with the bolt while in motion and therefore falls off. Then again, if the wheel nut and bolt is fastened to tight, the wheels do not spin freely. You have to fasten the nut & bolt somewhere in between, spinning freely without having the wheels loosen and fall off while transporting the aerator. For improving the design, I would suggest the manufacturer mount the wheels to a wheel bushing for better performance and durability.
