One Makita Two Makita
5 Star Review   By Edisto62 on Home Depot - Jun 11, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

As the title states I have two of the Makita compressors - Mac700 and the the Mac 2400. I bought the Mac 2400 for more CFM and storage (two hot dog tanks). Both perform admirably, but the main reason I bought the Makitas is the quiet operation and the quick filling of the storage tanks. Both will fill in less than 2 minutes providing plenty of air to operate any pneumatically driven tool. Customer service was great and shipping a breeze. In fact the delivery guy put the Mac 2400 right in my garage. Now that's service.

Better than expected
5 Star Review   By Gldaugh on Home Depot - May 21, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I bought this model based on customer reviews and I wasn't disappointed. It is pleasantly quiet as compared to the two oil less compressors I previously owned. It arrived undamaged and ready to set up immediately upon un-packaging. I followed the directions on break-in and since break-in it has performed flawlessly. I use it to occasionally run a finish nail gun and general around the garage/house chores. A best buy!

Makita compressor
3 Star Review   By Gary on Home Depot - May 14, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I bought the Makita MAC 2400 to replace my old compressor. At first I thought the MAC 2400 would be perfect for my business as it was compact and had more than enough power for my needs. After using it for a couple of hours on a job site I determined that it was too heavy to pack around the job site. I took it back to Home Depot and ordered the MAC 5200.

great product, high quality all around
5 Star Review   By estebab on Home Depot - May 11, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Makita's compressor is first class. Purchased about a month ago and have used for a variety of household projects. Drives two nail guns with ease. This is a quality compressor all around. It's a bit heavy so check the weight before you buy.

3 Star Review   By Rick on Home Depot - Mar 19, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Never owned a compressor and was excited when I saw the apparant quality of the mac2400.I went through the 20 minute break in period and noticed an oil leak.It was leaking because the drain bolt had been hit so hard that it cracked the piston cover. This was done before packing I had read reviews of damage from makita shipping. Sent it back and ordered a 5200 model with wheels since these compressors are heavy. Shipping and manufacturing are not comparable. Hoping for better results this time.

Quality Air Compressor
5 Star Review   By KUfan on Home Depot - Mar 14, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I have had this air compressor for about 6 months and it is the best one I have ever owned. It is built very solid and is very quite when running. I have installed two hardwood floors and numerious odd jobs around the home with no problems. It is a little heavy but is built to last. I prefer an oil compressor to an airless. This is a quality product and I am very satisfied with my purchases.

Pinch pennies somewhere else.
5 Star Review   By Toan on Home Depot - Mar 14, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Before even reading any reviews on this compressor I already knew I was sold. After reading the reviews from this compressor and many others I couldn't get to Home Depot fast enough. The closest store that had any in stock was about 30 miles away (out of the 8 stores in a 30 mile radius) which I didn't really mind since I'm in the process of remodeling my home and each store has something different. At 6:50 am Sunday morning I was loading it up in my truck and hanging base around 9. The compressor is quieter than what people say or whatever videos you see online. Even in a room with no carpet and semi gloss walls it hums. Easily can be used throughout all hours of the night and early morning without cops being called. If only there was a nail gun just as quiet. The only complaint I have is that all over the display, the box, and the compressor it self, there are tags and warnings saying to add oil to the compressor before using but when I took the compressor out of the box, the oil bottle was empty and there was already oil in the compressor. Better to be safe than sorry I ended up changing the oil on the compressor since I had no way of knowing how long ago it was added. All in all, an amazing buy. True, it might be a little more than some other compressors but if you've used tools before you know it's best to not cheap out and buy something that is built to last and will not only get the job done, but that will get the job done right.

So far I’m very impressive
4 Star Review   By MSU00 on Home Depot - Mar 5, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I have not had the Makita compressor for very long; thus, my rating of it will remain as a 4 until I have more time using it. But so far I am very impressed with the compressor compared to the Porter-Cable Pancake Compressor the Makita is replacing. The Makita is SUPER quiet when compared to the Porter-Cable, builds up quickly and easy to operate. I did a ton of research before making the purchase, and so far the compressor is living up to what I’ve read. The only negative thing I can comment on is the weight. It’s seems to be built solid, and the weight reflects that.

Quiet & quality!
5 Star Review   By GT123 on Home Depot - Feb 19, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This Makita replaced a Bostitch that I had for a few years. Holy cow; you get what you pay for. This is SOOooo quiet there is no comparison. It fills and recovers in one third the time at one third the volume. I shoot so many more nails before it needs to recover. What else can I say. It is quite heavy, as others have noted, but I can handle that. I researched most all options in this size/usage range and would buy this one again!

4 Star Review   By Crafty on Home Depot - Jan 15, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

My first online purchase with HD - great experience. Item arrived on the date predicted and in perfect condition. One negative comment: I couldn't track the item in transit between point-of-origin and the local UPS office. Not knowing that the item was actually on schedule until the day it was out for delivery was somewhat annoying.

After one week, two other contractors asked about my new Makita compressor. They liked how quiet it was, and they liked the design. Although there was another compressor available they stopped using it for mine. It did fine on a job with poor electric supply.

Quiet and Solid, a professional's tool.
5 Star Review   By AllTenFingers on Home Depot - Dec 27, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I make my living as a finish grade carpentry. I use many air tools in the process. I've gone through many protable air compressors in 30 years, this is my first Makita. It's quiet, solid, shock mounted and hands down my favorite so far. I'll know more in ten years or so but my first impression is a really good one. I priced this unit at every available source and Home Depot was by far the best buy. I had it shipped direct and it took four day, that's it. Bravo!

Works as it should!
5 Star Review   By KMCFLA on Home Depot - Nov 6, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I have had my compressor for over a month now, and have used it twice. Thus far, it has performed as I had hoped. I performed the break-in as stipulated in the manual, and it comes up to pressure quickly and relatively quietly, and there have been no pressure leaks (be sure to use Teflon tape on all of your air tool connections). I was impressed with the level of workmanship and build of this tool, and it was shipped to me without any issues. It took me a year and a good amount of research to decide on the right model for my needs and intended use. I even ended up speaking at length with a Makita Technical Service Representative about this model (would highly recommend as he was very informative). I wanted a well-built tool that would perform without issue (hopefully) for many years, and I actively maintain my tools for this reason. This tool will not be an exception, but should be easy to maintain. So far, I am very pleased with my purchase, and I look forward to using it more.

Awesome little compressor
5 Star Review   By jhhoffma on Home Depot - Nov 6, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Purchased a couple months ago, and have used it a couple times. Takes only a couple minutes to get to full pressure and recharges quickly. SUPER QUIET!! My household vacuum is louder. Not a lot of capacity, but for small little jobs like this is meant for, it's just fine. Like any compressor, just remember to drain the tank after every use to help keep it lasting for years!

5 Star Review   By MRJEG on Home Depot - Sep 27, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I ordered my MAC2400 Friday and it arrived six days later(thursday). The build quality is top. A little heavy but shows the quality. After breaking in the compressor i cycled it and it filled up to 130 psi in 1 minute 18 seconds. Best part is that it is not loud... it purrs... that is definitely a plus when running in a 20x20 garage. Can't wait to use with my floor nailer. Will update if any issues.

Bought this after alot of shopping. First bought a ridgid twin stack. Horribly loud and heavy. Took back and ordered this Makita. I own alot of makita tools already and they all have worked great for many years, this air compressor is no different I believe. A bit on the heavy side but I dont carry it around a lot. Very, very quiet. A little slow to refill if your blowing continuosly with it but it works great for all my needs. Arrived in perfect condition

Versatile compressor at a good price point
5 Star Review   By Lynx on Home Depot - Jun 28, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I purchased this compressor online from Home Depot and the transaction was excellent. The product arrived, undamaged within a week and has met my expectations. After doing a lot of research, I purchased this unit because the 4.2 CFM will allow me to run air nailers, air wrenches and even some paint guns. The unit is quiet in operation, holds pressure and has an easy pressure release on the bottom of the tank. As others have mentioned, it is heavy and the inlet air filter is a bit vulnerable on the side of the unit, but I can over-look this for the reliability, quietness and CFM this compressor delivers.

Runs with little vibration and is quiet. Air filter is above the oil check and fill. This is not great and will place a 90 on it and make horz. can do small texture jobs like a cieling etc. Perfect for most portable jobs.

This is a great compressor and why HD doesn't carry it in their stores is beyond me? I'd think every contractor would buy one. I did a lot of resurch before buying this unit, as did so many others who submitted their reviews, and found this unit to e of the fit and Finnish people have come to expect from Makita. This unit is nice and quiet. compaired to all the others.

Solid performer
5 Star Review   By Dave on Home Depot - Jun 6, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I bought this to replace a Porter-Cable pancake compressor that I had bought as a refurb several years ago which started leaking. I'm replacing the roof on my house and wanted a compressor I could count on. I picked the Makita based on numerous reviews and I have not been disappointed. The unit pressurizes quickly with far less noise than the old P-C unit. I like the 1/4-turn purge valve over the screw type, but I'd like to see a better on/off switch. It's basically a heavy gauge wire lever. Not a dealbreaker, though, and I'd recommend this compressor to anyone looking for a quality unit. It's a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for.

It's a heavy dude, but I knew that when I ordered, & fortunately I'm just using it around the house & not trying to hoist it in & out of a truck all day. it has performed flawlessly so far, and less noisy than some. I'm very happy with it.

Solid piece of hardware
5 Star Review   By CraigP3 on Home Depot - May 16, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Im in IT and use an Air Compressor daily to clean dust out of computers, Ive been through 3 or four different brands that have burned up on me (all air cooled). I looked at many reviews and found the MAC2400. Packing was good it arrived safely. So far it has the best quality guages I have seen, its Oil lubricated so I feel as long as I keep the oil level up and clean this unit appears it will last. One minor complaint the air filter could fit better as some have stated. But it's a very small issue and does not hinder the funtionality in any way, the other is the weight, it is a heavy compressor for its size, for a small compact compressor its a beast to carry around. I am 100% happy with the compressor and with my purchase from Home Depot.

Overall a Great Value
5 Star Review   By SawDust on Home Depot - Apr 19, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This compressor is heavy and relatively well built. I enjoy how quiet it is. What would I change? Well, I moved the air filter inside the cage so it didn't get knocked off while moving it. Then I mounted the unit on a dolly with an FRL air conditioner so my air tools get quality air. Overall, I am very satisfied with this compressor.

Love the compressor....hate the packaging and shipping.
4 Star Review   By jkeane2 on Home Depot - Mar 27, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

The compressor itself is an excellent machine. Plenty of pressure and fills fast. INCREDIBLY QUIET. That i read about before purchasing, but still impressed me. You can run it in a house without disturbing others around you. I have heard louder garbage disposals, seriously. Follow the break in instructions before closing the drain valve and it does help. Only issue i have is that i have a small leak with the oil reservoir...very small leak. I just needed to make sure the screws were tightened. Not sure if shipping or manufacturing. Shipping/Packaging: This part is the only negative i have about this. The compressor is packaged great and secure...except for one part. The bag with the air filter, oil, and instructions in it. It is just laying on the top of the compressor right beneath the top of the box. While my box appeared undamaged when I received it, the screw connection on the underside of the air filter still causing damage when bouncing in transit. It is about 1/2" pipe protruding from the underside of air filter. It caused the face plate of the compressor (housing the gauges) to become dented. nothing was creased and I got lucky the gauges were not broken, so i could actually repair the dent myself and still retain the new look to it. The 2 gauges have a slightly lifted up gauge inside the unit and the needles catch on it near the top of the gauge. So i will need to actually repair/replace them, but they do work. All of this could be avoided with a simple piece of cardboard or holder for the air filter in the packaging. Very stupid oversight on Makita for this. Overall: A+ for product itself. D for packaging. I still would highly recommend the compressor though.

Believe me when I say I have been through a lot of compressors. I am impressed by this Makita. Even thou I expected a good product, without seeing one in person first, I'm glad I went with this one. Well made, great regulator, perfect stance, since it stays upright while driving. Solid motor, yet wont trip breakers.

This is the best compressor, for the price.
5 Star Review   By JimmaJam on Home Depot - Feb 28, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

It has a lot of power. I like a compressor that needs oil added, because it will make it keeps the machine cooled better and will last longer without breaking down. Changing the oil is easy, just unscrew the plug and drain it, just like a car, so easy a caveman could do it. I looked at every compressor out there, and this is the best of the best.

Taking your chances!
1 Star Review   By stosh on Home Depot - Feb 12, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Really did not get a chance to use this product, since my first one was damged and the second leaked oil. The first one was damaged due to poor packaging. The bag with the air cleaner hit one of the gadges so hard the front of the gadge was broken. The second one I believe was used. I ran the compressor for half an our, but had to shut the thng down becase the crankcse leaked oil everywhere. I gave up and returned the compressor to Homedepot because the bottom of the box was so saturated with oil UPS would not be able to pick it up. Homedepot was very understanding, since I was in the store I bought one in the store.

My wife got me this for Christmas, it is one of the best tools/equipment I have. I love it. It fits great, because it's not huge. The power is amazing for it's size. I use it almost everyday.

I had a pancake compressor that was loud , slow , and vibrated a lot ( it would actually walk right acrosss the cement ) This compressor has none of those problems. Its quieter, faster , vibrates less, and seems to have a faster recovery time . Will work well for what I want.

Best purchase i made in a while.
5 Star Review   By steve on Home Depot - Jan 27, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Best investment i ever made. ... Like my buddies, I had the chance to buy cheaper models of "pancakes". But noticed their pancakes were breaking down way to much. So i opted for the better quality and it paid off. The outlets i plug into are often outdated and will easily blow fuses/trip breakers. Never had that problem with this. Only downside i have is the weight. 80 pounds. But quiet ... worth it!

Makita MAC2400 = EXCELLENT Compressor!
5 Star Review   By RVC1965 on Home Depot - Jan 17, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

The Makita MAC2400 is the second air compressor I have owned in the last ten years. The first one was a Craftsman maintenance free / oil free compressor of which I bought without conducting any research. Although the compressor did what I needed it to do, it was very LOUD! Also, there were just some minor issues I had with it over time which would keep me from purchasing another. However, this time I decided to perform some significant research before my next air compressor purchase. Out of all the air compressors out there, I had narrowed my search down to the Makita MAC2400. The reviews I received, both online and in person were outstanding for the Makita MAC2400. It seemed as though it would fit my needs the best. Keep in mind, an air compressor is nothing more than a tool. What may be great for me, may not be so great for you. It all depends on what type of projects you intend to use it for. If you intend to run a die grinder or some other tool which would require a great deal of air, this may not be a good choice. The most important factor to consider when buying an air compressor is the PSI and CFM ratings, not necessarily the tank size. After using the Makita MAC2400 almost daily for the last couple of weeks, I cannot say enough good things about this compressor! It is an EXCELLENT compressor and has performed everything I have needed it to do without the least bit of trouble. Also, this compressor is VERY QUIET compared to the maintenance free models out there, including my old Craftsman. I would have no problem firing the Makita up in my garage at 3AM if I needed to. It is seriously that quiet. I would not disturb any of my neighbors. In fact, this compressor is even quieter than some of the more expensive two-stage compressors I have seen & heard. I would DEFINATELY recommend the Makita MAC2400 to anyone who is looking for a very dependable, well built, quiet and reliable air compressor. This compressor is great for airing up tires, balls, rafts, running 1/2 inch impact drivers to bust loose lug nuts to rotate or change tires, running air ratchet drivers, cleaning areas with an air gun, operating two (2) 90 P.S.I. nail guns at the same time...of which I did for two days straight...no problems whatsoever! For the money, this is truly an excellent machine and I don't think you could ever possibly go wrong with the Makita MAC2400. Good luck and I hope this review was helpful to you!

Very pleased.
5 Star Review   By Will on Home Depot - Dec 20, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Honestly, this is the first air compressor I have owned, so I can't say that I know how the Makita performs compared to a 'typical' compressor. But I did use it with a framing nailer, and the Makita performed quite well. It is a heavy unit, but hey it is a heavy-duty piece of machinery, so I don't think you can complain. I did not have difficulty moving it, and since I am using it at home I decided to permanently locate the compressor on the back porch and buy a 100' air hose that is long enough to reach everywhere in the house- seems to be working just fine.

I need dependability in my work therefore many of my tools are Makita I have not used this compressor much yet but it is a very nice compressor. It turns at half the speed that the competition does and it is a Makita so I am sure it will give me good service. I research before I buy and this compressor is the best in class. Sr. Mapache. Great Professional Compressor
5 Star Review   By Rich on Home Depot - Nov 6, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I own several compressors but nothing like the Makita compressor. I have a 10-men crew for doing primarily roofing and sheathing and every guy is asking for the Makita compressor. The compressor is very quite, has plenty of power and provides ample air for the job requirements. I tried to buy this compressor at the store but I was told that its only available on line. The home depot service was prompt and delivery was smooth. I am looking forward to buy additional Makita compressors so my guys don't have to fight for it every morning.

Product was defective twice....
1 Star Review   By Bill on Home Depot - Nov 5, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I did research prior to purchasing and decided that this compressor was a quality product that would suit my needs. I am a fan of Makita products as well. Upon receiving the first one, the pressure gauges were both broken and cracked. I returned the compressor and reordered, I realize issues due occur. The second one looked fine out of the box, I did the break in as specified. I noticed a puddle of oil under the compressor. It was another defective compressor. The only highlight was my local Home Depot. They took both units back and completely refunded my money without hassle.

Heavy
4 Star Review   By JimA on Home Depot - Oct 29, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This is a heavy compressor so keep it close to where you are working. It is semi-quiet compared to its size and other brands. Sadly, when I bought it, it did not come with oil and the top plate was bent, but it works fine despite the damage. The airbreather took a little work to attach as you have to cut the plastic shroud to get it on to fit. Other than that, I am happy [so far].

Makita MAC2400 is an excellent compressor
5 Star Review   By member metalsman - Dec 13, 2007

Strengths: Very quiet running, excellent build quality, short recovery time

Weakness: Heavy, air cleaner housing contacts plastic shroud

The compressor was shipped to me undamaged, packaging seemed adequate if not drop tested by the shipper. This unit is considered portable but it does weigh a hefty 70 lbs. Some people have mounted it to a small two wheel cart for easier use. The build quality seems excellent. Add the oil that comes with the compressor and run the unit for 30 minutes with the drain valve open to break it in. As a previous reviewer noted, the air cleaner housing comes in contact with the compressors plastic shroud. I'll keep an eye on this but the vibration from the unit seem minimal. As for noise level, this compressor is very quiet. When I first started it up for break in, I was surprised how quiet it was. I'm using the unit to drive nail guns and the recovery time is short. Overall a very nice compressor and I would buy it again.

Just plainly the best
5 Star Review   By member bmcfair - May 15, 2007

Strengths: Quiet. Powerful enough for everything around the house. Nail guns (multiple) paint sprayers.

Weakness: Little heavy but just put it on wheels.

Built Makita solid just like all of their other products. Very quiet. Can hold a conversation while standing right next to it. Great shop tool for that reason. Highly recommend.

Makita MAC2400 Air Compressor
5 Star Review   By member dkaudio - Mar 29, 2007

Strengths: Makita quality; low noise level; fast pressure recovery.

Weakness: Unit is almost too heavy to be considered "portable"; intake air cleaner hits plastic compressor shroud.

Purchased this compressor instead of any other brand because of my very good experience with Makita tools. This compressor is very solidly built, but this does cause the weight to be a little high for carrying the compressor. The unit is quieter than any other compressors I have used. The only negative thing I can say about the construction of the compressor is that when you install the intake air filter, it is firmly pressed against the plastic compressor housing. I plan to cut the shroud back a small amount to relieve this interference. All thiongs considered, I would buy the Makita again.
