NICE ENTRY LEVEL UNIT
4 Star Review   By MIKE BALA on Norwall PowerSystems - Aug 11, 2013

Got this unit at the beginning of 2012. Perfect size for my needs. Nice resin design with easy access to the unit from the top. Installed with a friend in less than 2 days. Only had to come on 1 time due to a power loss. Norwall had the best price. Only issue was the wait since I ordered after a major Nor'easter in October 2011. Thanks Norwall!

Photos are miss-leading
3 Star Review   By Scotty on Home Depot - Jun 9, 2013

Generac shows a lot of photos of this unit always against the home, with plantings all around. Page 4 of the manual states it must be 5' away from everything including windows. Page 5 shows a picture of it up against a house. Not the kind of thing I wanted sitting in the middle of the yard.

Good investment thus far
4 Star Review   By CMoe on Home Depot - May 26, 2013

We purchased and had installed the Generac 7000 Watt generator and so far it has excellent response. There are some points that could make the generator easier when it comes to maintenance. Generac should have a cycle switch on the side of the unit to run it for maintenance and not have the customer to remove the top cover to do a run, also the run time should be extended to 30-45 mins as 12 mins is not long enough to allow the generator to warm up during maintenance run.

Quality product
4 Star Review   By anonymous on Norwall PowerSystems - Apr 4, 2013

The Generac 7kw I purchased was a pleasant surprise. The installation was simple with the very user friendly transfer switch. Directions are clear a and the wiring is easily identified. This unit is an inexpensive alternative to portable generators. One thirty amp double pole will run my Central A/C and six additional circuits will make for a very comfortable home the next time the power goes out.

Excellent product for a great price!
5 Star Review   By Strych920 on Home Depot - Jan 8, 2013

This is an excellent product for a great price! I could not find a a portable generator with the same electrical capacity, quality or comparable price. Especially a tri-fuel unit as during Sandy, gasoline supplies were low. NG is a must! The auto transfer panel is top notch! Comparable to Cuttler Hammer and the like. Heavy gauge steel construction with copper bus bars, Siemens breakers and neatly, zip-tied wiring. High-end work on preassembly at the Generac factory. Transfer occurs, from time of power loss to generator service, roughly 10-15 seconds. Install was a bit detailed and time-consuming, but rather straight-forward. Definitely not a do-it-yourselfer project. Knowledge of electrical panel wiring, wire ampacity, panel load balancing, gas supply requirements and local electrical and gas codes are A MUST! You'd hate to install it, spend quite a bit of time and money on the ancillary supplies required for install, just for an inspector to tag it and cut it out of commission. Not too good! Definitely do the research and know what your local codes require before purchase. Also, an often overlooked detail is your gas supply capacity. This unit requires 119000 BTU's (at full electrical load) or roughly 119 C.F.H. at a minimum of 5" W.C. pressure at the meter. To give you an example: my meter supplies 250 C.F.H and is regulated at 5" W.C. My furnace also uses 119000 BTU's. At full electrical load with both the generator and furnace on, I'm using 238 C.F.H.; not much room for other appliances to be on. Especially a water heater or dryer than can use about 40-50 C.F.H. Know your gas service capacity, the regulator specs, what your appliance requirements are and plan on what you need to supply! You might need to upgrade your gas service to run this thing if you want the luxury of using multiple gas appliances at once and using its full electrical capacity! I've read some negative comments about the weekly exercise/maintenance, composite design and install distance from the house. 1. The weekly exercise is a must! You want this thing to be reliable. This is the purpose of its self testing folks! It's set up by simply holding down the "Set Exercise" button at a designated time and day of the week. From that point on, it will perform this exercise weekly at that time and day. I recommend after it does this test to check the panel to see if any errors are present. This is the whole point of the exercise: maintaining reliability! Why would you want to skip its weekly maintenance??? 2. Composite design, in my opinion, is a plus! It' will last forever and will minimize maintenance to the generator housing. The only maintenance you need to do is the required air and oil filter and oil changes and other required maintenance for the motor. 3. Because of the composite design, you are required to install it at a minimum of 5' from the dwelling or any windows. I don't find that a problem at all!!! I wouldn't want a possibly hazardous and flammable piece of equipment next to my house, just like a BBQ. And furthermore, my local codes require it to be that distance from the house. I don't understand the issue with that? Most people install it at the far end of their property because of the noise. (But it's not that noisy and I have my master bedroom window on the 2nd floor right over the generator.) It's the equivalent to a lawn mower at best. Nice, almost automobile-sized muffler on the motor. Not too noisy at all. All-in-all, a great product at a great price! Since my install after a month, I already had one power outage for a few hours. The unit performed as expected. Power off, 15 seconds later, generator restored power to my essentials. Easy as that! Supplies needed: 10/3 (or 8/3 depending on code and distance) wire and fittings for dual leg, 30A supply from generator to panel; 14/3 wire and fitting for service sensing, battery charging, control module and auto transfer operation (a little discrepancy in the instructions. It says you can use 18 gauge wire at 300V. Good luck finding that and why not just use a heavier gauged wire for safely???); 6/3 wire with ground for supply of power from main to auto transfer panel, 50A double pole breaker place in mains panel for auto transfer supply, any other necessary Siemens Type-QP breakers (comes with a few 15A, 20A and one 30A double pole breakers); all necessary conduit and fittings, 1/2" gas supply line and valve (I used galvanized pipe overground); cement slab if you want it higher and bolted down; a car battery with a 500+ CCA capacity; proper 8' grounding rod with wire and fitting. Highly recommended! I hope my review was comprehensive and helps:)

This product performs as advertised!
5 Star Review   By Walt on Home Depot - Dec 17, 2012

The Generac CorePower 7000 watt generator/natural gas delivers as advertised. If you are able to install on your own it will only take a few days to complete all the necessary steps. If not, coordinating the electrician and plumber will take time but it is worth the wait. Once completed, the CorePower 7000 started immediately without hesitation. The directions provided make easy reading. I almost look forward to the next power outage.

Many years of reliability
5 Star Review   By John F on Norwall PowerSystems - Nov 10, 2012

I have had the 7KW Generac/automatic transfer switch at my home for over 6 years. Has worked flawlessly whenever needed, including several 3 day(+) power outages, where it ran 24/7 with good quality power (118-123 VAC; 60 - 63Hz). I installed and have maintained this unit myself; they have a great diagnostic manual available on-line. It is laid out in a logical manner and is easy to work on.

READ BEFORE PURCHASE
1 Star Review   By 247Electric on Home Depot - Oct 18, 2012

This generator is very nice looking and I love the size/build. There is however one MAJOR downfall This unit is made of a plastic composite type which means it does not meet the typical generac fire rating. What does this mean to you?..... The generator must be placed 5 feet from the house instead of the normal 18 inches. You will not get a 1hr fire rating in a residential structure 99% of the time. So that means increased install costs plus a unit sitting 5 feet into your lawn. This also means trenching to the genset for a neat install. I wish they would have told me this in the home depot specs. It's a shame becuase the unit looks awesome and is a good amount of KW for most emergency needs.

PEACE OF MIND
5 Star Review   By Dearydot on Home Depot - Sep 18, 2012

This is exactly what we needed. It arrived in good shape, was hooked up by an electrician with no issue, and ran beautifully when tested. This is such a relief for me, having an elderly, sometimes frightened mother on oxygen. I know that she feels more comfortable when the frequent Florida storms roll through.

Great Value
5 Star Review   By Steve M on Norwall PowerSystems - Jul 18, 2012

Best value on the market after doing a lot of research. Only problem was with UPS who said they would deliver it on a certain day; waited all day, never showed. After calling them, they said they needed a truck with a lift-gait (big surprise) and it was tied up until a week later. So, it sat in their warehouse for a week.

Almost perfect...
4 Star Review   By Robert V. on Norwall PowerSystems - Dec 11, 2011

Great price and quick delivery from Norwall, not too hard to install, it meets all of my service needs. Only issue was first time I lost power it didn't start because a small bee had built a nest in the air intake. Service call therefore was not covered under the warranty, even though that would appear to be a design flaw. It has worked fine since then.

3 Star Review   By ib77 on Home Depot - Nov 28, 2011

To date there has not been a power outage so it is impossible for me to judge the quality and value therefore I gave it an average score. It was installed easily by the electrician and the plumber and all the parts were as promised. Only when there is an outage will I be able to judge the product.

Best Investment I've made in a long time
5 Star Review   By PowerJunkie on Home Depot - Nov 22, 2011

I bought this right after Irene and it showed up 2 week later. Very, very easy to install. I did it myself althought if you're not comfortable with gas or electrical work, then you might want to hire someone. But beware, that installation is not cheap. I had quotes from 3K to 7K. Did it myself for about $350 in parts. Instructions were great and when I hit the first test, it started on the second try, due to the air in the gas line. Ran it throught all of the test and it worked everytime. A couple of weekends later I was ready to close up the breaker box when I bumped the main Circuit breaker. Was in the dark in the basement for less than 30 seconds when the Generator started powing. I had installed a light on the generator panel and so I had lights. Closed everything up and then hit the main breaker back on and everything transferred back. It runs every weekend for 10 to 12 minutes and hasn't missed yet. As far as sound, I found it is very reasonable when you compare it to a portable gas unit. The only thing I now plan to do, is add battery backup to the sensitive devices to protect from the power surge (also to maintain any settings) such as the TV, Cable system and also to the refrig (for protection).

Very Happy
5 Star Review   By Rebecca on Home Depot - Oct 11, 2011

I purchased this generator after hurricane Irene to ensure food wouldn't spoil and we'd have heat if power went out this winter. According to the electrician who installed it, I got an AWESOME deal!! So far haven't had to test it, but feel confident we will be able to get through the next power outage without any problems.

Louder than I expected
3 Star Review   By Elaine on Home Depot - Oct 4, 2011

After it was installed we did a test run. It seems to be able to power a lot of stuff. The true test will be when we actually lose power. I was a little surprised at how loud it was when it was running. Not much difference between it and a portable one as far as the noise level is concerned. Also I wish there was a way to set the exercise timer so that it would test less frequently, say once a month. One a week seems a little extreme.
