Looked at several in this watt range. choose this one because of value and ratings. supprisingly quiet. had it shipped direct to home. arrived safely. well packaged. comes with battery and additional accessories for connection. added oil and started right up while on propane. Read owners manual!

Overall, I am well pleased with this purchase.
5 Star Review   By PJPJ on Home Depot - Mar 16, 2013

The product came with all the parts required for assembly. The instructions were reasonably clear and in pretty good translation. I bought this model because I really wanted the option to use propane and not have to deal with storing gasoline since the generator will get only occaisional use. The assembly went well. It would be nice if the handles had a slightly longer bolt and two nuts each. Then they could pivot and drop down out of the way for storage. A quick trip to the hardware store and $2.10 took care of that and the generator fits in the garage just fine. The battery had enough charge to use the electric start, and the generator fired up first try. You need to have a long throated funnel to fill the oil, but the good thing about the design is that it's impossible to overfill as long as the unit is level. This unit is pricier as compared to the gas only models, but for me it was worth it. From the specs, it seemed to be quieter then other models, but I can't say for sure whether that's the case. I haven't run it enough to know how long it runs on a tank.

I'm using it for home back up. I'll probably never have another power outage. Since it will be used infrequently, I wanted propane (can also use gas). It was the only smaller unit that offerred 30 A 240V. Price was very good. Takes a bit of time to set up.

It's just the best generator I've used out camping in the middle of nowhere and in the mountains. It is very simple, quiet, and better than I expected, for real.

Dual Fuel Option
5 Star Review   By JimW on Home Depot - Feb 25, 2013

I needed a generator that had the ability to run longer than 8 hours on a tank of fuel and to not have that fuel degrade the carburetor, or in the tank. I chose this unit because it could run for 8 hours if necessary on gasoline, or 2 1/2days on 100# of propane. The low oil shutdown protects the engine. It assembled and started readily, but it awaits the big test.

Arrived damaged but works
3 Star Review   By je923 on Home Depot - Feb 20, 2013

The generator was damaged when it arrived, the box was not. I almost returned it but decided to try it. It works ok and I can beat the damage area out. It seems to have shipped out this way. I recommend for the ease of use.

Propane powered generator is just right for my travel trailer
5 Star Review   By dereknliza on Home Depot - Feb 9, 2013

Since I carry twin 40 pound LP taks on the front of my Jayco Jayflight travel trailer I thought why not use that fuel source instead of luggng around an additional stinky and dangerous gasoline can? I have a 12' extention hose and will run the generator with those tanks. The generator has a flip toggle swich to run 120 volts or 240 volts. You chose. Never flip between 120 to 240 with the breaker on the unit in the 'on' position. My trailer runs on 120 volts with a 30 amp service. I needed a 3200 watt power source to run my air conditioner. The summers in WI can be very hot well into the night so I need to cool the indoor temp down in order to sleep better. The Dura Max unit comes with an electric starter and battery. That will save my shoulder so I can enjoy more Kayaking instead of pulling on a recoil. I started the unit right after I assembled the wheel kit and removed the packing braces. After I added 20 once of sae 30 oil I closed the gasoline fuel supply valve and connected the propane tank. It started right up! I did not need to choke it. Just depress the propane pressure release valve twice and it ran great. One side note: the battery for the unit is automatically charged by the generator. It does not need separate charging. Never leave the fuel valve open for the gasoline supply if you are running propane, and never leave the propane connected and use the gasoline to run the generator, and finally remember to depress the propane pressure relief valve before starting the unit to run on gasoline. I disconnected the battery for storage in my basement until camping season arrives. It is also big enough to power most of my home in an emergency power outage. I also purchased a XP3030RV adaptor since this unit comes with a 4 prong twist lock. This adaptor converts a 4 prong twist lock into a 3 prong standard 30 amp RV plug. The generator is 135 pounds, and is truly 69 decibles. I recommend this unit.

Good Buy
5 Star Review   By Cipher on Home Depot - Jan 28, 2013

I owned a Duromax Generator model 5500w running 6500w surge for over six years before it was flooded by hurricane Sandy. When came time to buy a replacement it turned out that Maxtools do not make 5500w model any longer. I had to opt for 3500w because it was more manageable weightwise than its counterpart 8000w unit. I have to say that new unit is way quieter than the one I had before. After much consideration to buy more popular brands the main reason I bought Duromax generator again was that it has never EVER failed to start. It had always started on the first cranked. No drama.
