This newer Model only has 18 in. down rod
4 Star Review   By MarvinF on Home Depot - Jun 4, 2013

This is a great fan, I am disappointed that there is only one down rod in the box. When I bought my first Altura it came with a 4" down rod, and worked perfectly in my bedroom with 8' ceiling. Now I had to call Hampton Bay and purchase the short rod as it is not sold as an option at HD. In addition, now the electrician has to come back another day to finish up the installation.

great fan for great room
5 Star Review   By Calin on Home Depot - May 28, 2013

so my great room is big, really big and it would get cold in the winter and a little hot in the summer. thought we have great a/c for summer and a fire place for winter we would still get some cold/hot spots...that is until I(being an electrician) installed the fan. Everybody that see's the fan falls in love with it. in fact I have installed the same fan in most of my neighbors homes. I also have one in my bedroom and it amazes me on how quite it is during the night. in other words, it looks nice, it's built nice and the price is right. the only thing is that I had to use scaffolds because of the high ceilings. get one before they're gone!!!!

Quality-looking fan, but watch out for the bar code number!
5 Star Review   By jtflag on Home Depot - May 28, 2013

I really like the look of this fan, mainly due to the curved wood blades and that it matches my beam and wood ceiling. I finally bought and eventually installed it. But, the exact same stocked fan will have slightly different options, so watch out. The last 4 digits of the bar code will be either 6068 or 6168. The former has a receiver that is separate and must be installed between the rafters, or maybe the canopy bracket, if you are really good with tight electrical work. The second (6168) has an already-wired receiver in the bottom. It also has a provided 9V battery supplied for the remote. Other than the bar code digits, you can't tell the difference from the outside boxes--they are identical. I needed the 6168 because I was installing the unit on a solid beam; there was no room for the receiver with my pancake electrical box on the solid beam. Once I got the fan with correct bar code number, the install was very straightforward. I used a short down tube (6"). I don't know why reviewers state you need a helper. If you set up the fan and run the parts together prior to hanging the fan, you only need to plunk the down tube ball onto the canopy bracket and you can then do the wiring and light kit install (optional) at your leisure. The lowest speed has no sound at all for my fan. The next two speeds have a slight hum. The recommended light kit (SKU 568 978) is a bit odd. It comes with two CFL 14W bulbs. So, the kit cannot be used for different light levels, yet the fan instructions state the remote can do that. You do get the on and off control, which is fine for me. Light is a tad dim, though okay for a lower ceiling (mine is 9 feet). There are no instructions (fan nor light kit) on how to get the fan to adapt to the kit. After some fiddling, I discovered that the very bottom has a cap that unscrews. It is well-put together--I thought for about 20 minutes that the cap was molded into the lower base. The light kit, however, is low quality. The glass mounting hole was cut askew, so the mounting was initially very tilted. I simply bent the bottom mounting disk to compensate, but it was tricky. Oh, and I returned the kit for exchange as well--the first one I got had a broken CFL (!?) bulb and the other one would not turn on. The recommended light kit is also ugly, in my opinion. There are some really nice kits out there that are not Hampton Bay that reviewers show here; I like the ones with dark brass trim around the top of the glass. I wish the reviewers would cite the models; someone let me know, if that is possible. I'm going to replace mine when I find a better looking one. Summary: Very nice fan, easy to install, but bar code indicates a secret model (upgrade?) with no info, and a weird light kit is recommended for it.

Great looking fan!

Looks great and moves the air. Blades turn slower than I thought they would but you can feel the results. Very quiet. Looks great in our family room!

Excellent airflow, good efficency
5 Star Review   Home Depot

This fan puts out some of the highest airflow available. Don't believe the reviews about low air flow, instead look at the numbers. At medium speed it puts out what most fans do on high, on high it's among the top available anywhere. Search for ceiling fans with CFM of 8000+ and it's a short list. The 68" is 8500-8700 CFM. I installed mine at the top of a split stairwell in a 2000 sq. ft. cathedral ceiling home. Prior to the main floor would be 65-70 and second floor would be 78-80 with the furthest room reaching 85 with a computer on. After installation the entire house is ~70 (thermostat setting) and the AC runs 1/3 less. For me one decent priced, not to mention very handsome, fan corrected the climate of the entire house and reduced my overall energy bill noticeably.

2 out of 3 work great...
4 Star Review   By VapexPR on Home Depot - May 15, 2013

I bought this fan about a year ago for the living room of my last house and it worked flawlessly. I just bought two more for my new house. One for the Master BR and the other for the living room. The one in the BR works great - quiet, powerful & easy to install. the living room fan however is constantly reversing itself, changing speeds and shutting off. I'm sure HD will make this right.

Does not move air as expected
2 Star Review   By Craig on Home Depot - May 11, 2013

The fan Looks great is well made but they put an under powered motor in it. On high setting you can stand 6 feet from the tip of the blades and not feel air moving. If you sit directly under the blades you can feel the air but do not get beyond the tips of the blades. I put a piece of tissue paper that they separated the blades with on a cart aprox. 5 feet from the tip of the blade and it did not move. 8700 cfm my foot. I have cheap white fans that HD sells for $89.00 AND THEY MOVE 10X'S THE AIR. Wish it worked as well as they look.

The best ceiling fan we have found
5 Star Review   By CaerLlewys on Home Depot - May 3, 2013

There are only two things wrong with this fan: It doesn't spin fast enough to create a visual disc, and the blade tips aren't painted yellow. ...But you won't care about those if you're not a vintage-aircraft geek. :) This is a very well made fan, with properly curved aerodynamic blades that move a lot of air virtually silently. There's no yanking on chain switches and counting how many times you pulled the chain; the included remote lets you switch directly to high, medium, low, off or reverse with a single button press, as it should be. The fan installs easily if you're competent with basic hand tools and electrical wiring, although the step of lifting the motor assembly and downrod into the hanger mount can be quite an effort if you need to do it one-handed. You will need to run a three-core power cable (two cores plus ground) to supply power to it; 16-3 insulated wire is sufficient. I suggest you do not try to screw its hanging bracket directly to the junction box like most fans; this fan weighs almost 50 pounds fully assembled, and that's too much weight to be safe on junction-box screws. One thing to note is that there are two additional wires in the lower switch housing, one white and one blue with quick-attach connectors; the install instructions do not at any point mention these two wires or what to do (or not do) with them. DO NOT TRY TO CONNECT THEM TOGETHER. They are for an accessory light fitting, and they should not be connected to anything if you are not installing a light fitting onto the fan.

Amazing Fan
5 Star Review   By JNDSAYRE on Home Depot - Apr 28, 2013

We have had this fan for over 5 years now in our large family room with a vaulted ceiling. It moves an unbelievable amount of air and looks beautiful while doing it. We are getting ready to buy a second one for our master bedroom as we have never found one we liked better that moved as much air.

This fan is great!
5 Star Review   By member mitchandshanna - Apr 26, 2013

Strengths: Moves air extremely well even at low speeds. Classy look. Very quiet. Easy to assemble.

Weakness: Potential for blades to crack during assembly.

We removed the old fan/light combo from our living room, installed can lights, and then decided on this fan because of its looks. Once we installed it, we were blown away (no pun intended) by it's efficiencey. Our neighbors asked me where I got is because it works so well that they want one, too! On the lowest speed it's virtually silent, and you can feel the breeze and watch the blinds moving slightly - 15 feet away! The only warning I would give is this: During assembly, when bolting the fan blades on, be careful not to tighten them too tight - the blades are made of a light-weight wood and it seems to me that too much torque on the bolts would cause them to crack. This didn't happen with mine, but I was careful not to over tighten them. Otherwise, this is an excellent fan!

This fan is ideal for any large room with high ceilings
5 Star Review   By gkern02 on Home Depot - Apr 23, 2013

I wanted this fan for a large master bedroom with a tray ceiling and it is ideal for our needs. We had ours installed by an electrician, but watching him made me realize how simple the process is. We are very pleased with this fan because of its look and functionality.

Build your great room around this fan. You will not be sorry!
5 Star Review   By Beasur on Home Depot - Apr 22, 2013

I didn't install this fan so it worked without a hitch for the five years I owned it. It took on our 19 foot ceiling in our 25 by 25 ft great room and filled it with wonderful breezes.I have visited friends and saw them turn their fans on high to try and get some airflow and then let them watch in wonder as the great fan circulated the air even on low. Whisper quiet, not a huge consumer of electricity, it is the first thing that I will install in my new house. Before the TV, before the beds, before the couch, comes the fan. What can I say? I'm a big fan of the big fan.

Bad quality, start to finish
1 Star Review   By retiredgamer on Home Depot - Apr 21, 2013

First purchase: Opened the box. Fan blades suffered severe manufacturing defects, wood splinters, cracks, and misplaced mounting holes. Returned immediately. 2nd try: The manual skipped multiple, critical steps, making the installation literally impossible, were anyone to follow the directions line to line. Luckily, the fan installs pretty easy without the directions. While installing, I noticed that many joints were metal on metal, almost guaranteeing this product to be horribly noisy and a very short lifespan. After installation was complete, turning the fan on revealed loud, grinding bearings and a horrible electric buzz. I'm returning this one, too. I don't really feel like bothering with a 3rd attempt.

5 Star Review   By Nanadx3 on Home Depot - Apr 15, 2013

We have a 17 ft. Ceiling but my husband installed it by himself with no problem. It is very nice looking and works great. Just a tip, we were stopping it then trying to reverse the direction. We called the help line and were told to put it in medium speed then hit the reverse button. It stops itself and then reverses itself. The lady said she gets a lot of calls with this question. Also light kit has necessary parts for both finishes.

Fabulous Fan
5 Star Review   By yoshi379 on Home Depot - Mar 25, 2013

This fan is SO nice. We had it installed in a log cabin...it looks fantastic. The blades are carved wood and look substantial. The fan resembles a wooden airplane prop. It really moves a lot of air. I only wish they made the 52 inch model of this fan with the rubbed bronze instead of nickel...I am going to have to spray paint them to install them in the bedrooms...but it's worth it.

bought 4, only 1 worked properly
1 Star Review   By billinboca on Home Depot - Mar 17, 2013

I bought two alturas about a year ago for separte rooms. One works fine. The other one lost the highest (3rd) of the 3 speeds, with the 3rd speed being about the same as the first speed. So the speeds go: low (1), medium(2) and low (3). I returned the one bad fan and replaced it with another altura, and had same problem. Then tried a 3rd altura and had same problem. 3rd (high) speed was never attained. Beautiful fan, but only one of 4 I bought has 3 fully functional speeds.

Fabulous fan!!
5 Star Review   By Qtrhrs on Home Depot - Mar 13, 2013

I purchased two fans for our 15 x 25 great room, and they fit perfectly in the space. The ceiling is 18' so I also bought the 48" down rod that was suggested. The scale of the large blades and down rod work well. I would not change a thing. The top of the fan is easily visible from our second floor, so I would recommend taking off the stickers that are attached to the top of the motor, before you hang them.

Super Easy To Install
5 Star Review   By Craiger on Home Depot - Mar 8, 2013

Our living room is quite big and has an eleven foot ceiling. We needed a fan that could handle the volume of air so we picked the Hampton Bay 68” to do the job. Assembly was probably one of the easiest I’ve ever done. All the parts were there and with the easy to read instructions it was a breeze to assemble. The entire installation took me under an hour. We especially like the remote control because you don’t have the unsightly chains hanging down in the middle of the room and best of all the remote has a directional reverse switch. I especially like this because now I don’t have to climb the 10’ ladder to reverse direction twice a year. Love it!!!!

quiet at all speeds, moves air as it should at all speeds, really enhances the look of any room, I used it in a great room and it is an eye catcher even at 11 feet, remote control is the best. will be buying another one just like it for a smaller room so I will get the smaller identical look one.

Just beautiful
5 Star Review   By Deej on Home Depot - Feb 23, 2013

I surface mounted this fan in our Ranch house. We have since moved and I am looking to purchase two more of these fans with light kits and this time i will use down-rods as we have higher ceilings in our new living space. I chose to hardwire this fan. At the time of purchasing this fan only had options to use the remote. Searching online I found a lot of different options on getting it to be hard wired. I did the relay trick where you use the remote and put it in the direction you want it to go on high speed and then kill the power. I hardwired it back in and the speed control works great with my fan dimmer switch though the direction does occasionally change and to make it change i have to turn it on quickly and turn it off and turn it back on again.

genuine wood
5 Star Review   By Barbara on Home Depot - Feb 2, 2013

I love the look of this fan with its genuine wood curved blades. All my other fans look cheap in comparison. It is completely silent and moves a lot of air even on low speed. I would definitely choose this fan again.

My husband wanted a ceiling fan for our family room. I did not want one that looked cheap. This one with the susbstantial hand carved, real wood blades is awesome. It moves huge volumes of air, gently and works quietly and well on all 3 speeds. There is no wobble. The remote works well, but my husband (an electrical engineer) installed a Hampton Bay wall switch also. He did note that some of the complaints may have had to do with installation. It may not be a DIY project for some. This summer was lovely and now it gently pushes down the warm air from our high ceilings. I love this fan!

After 1 year the fan got stuck going one way
1 Star Review   By bharmsun on Home Depot - Jan 8, 2013

The fan worked great for a year. It comes with a remote which makes it convenient when summer becomes winter you can at a touch of a button put the fan in reverse. However it doesn't have a manual switch and if your fan gets stuck on winter mode when its hot it becomes an expensive decor. Any tips?

Unique curved blades
5 Star Review   By Johnnie on Home Depot - Dec 29, 2012

Beautiful fan with genuine wood blades and easy to install. I bought the suggested light fixture for this fan and it looks wonderful. I definitely recommend this fan. The air movement is great and the motor is super quite. Johnnie Washington DC

This fan rocks!
5 Star Review   By Pres on Home Depot - Dec 19, 2012

This fan was installed on a vaulted ceiling with a longer bar to extend it down more. This fan does not go fast but it sure circulates the air! The house feels so much cooler now. We are going to buy the smaller version for the bedroom. If you have a vaulted ceiling or a great room this is the fan for you! Enjoy

Its a really nice fan overall
5 Star Review   By bryan on Home Depot - Dec 11, 2012

I had to install a switch wire and an electrical box to hang the fan from my living room ceiling, but once those items were installed, installing and assembly of the fan was easy. It is a really nice looking ceiling fan.

It's flush mountable, and I have measurements!
4 Star Review   By MessyLectric on Home Depot - Dec 6, 2012

I'm an electrician, and I've probably installed over a hundred ceiling fans in the last 15+ years. I wanted a ceiling fan to circulate the air better when I have a fire in my fireplace. I know from experience building computers, that the larger the fan blades are, the more air a fan can move, with less speed and relative wind noise. This fan delivers that! It spins surprisingly slow, yet moves a lot of air. I think the negative reviewers are trying to judge this fan based on the speed of the moving air that they feel while standing under the fan. This fan won't produce high air speed, because it spins so slowly. This fan is great for air circulation inside a room. It's not good, if you want air speed to help evaporate sweat from your body on your deck. Fact #1: The curve in the blades cause the fan to work better when it's blowing down, than when it blows up. Fact #2: When flush mounted, this fan measures from Ceiling to- A) Top of fan blades =5" B) Bottom of fan blades =8 1/8" C) Bottom of fan without light kit =11" D) Bottom of Hunter light kit (sold here at HD) =18" Flush mounting is a pain in the keester. Because flush mounting doesn't use a down rod, you can't hang it from the ball while you wire it, so you either need someone to hold the 40 lb fan while you connect wires, or you need to fashion a STRONG hook to hold it up. I mounted mine on a 9' ceiling with a light kit, and there's still 7.5' of clearance underneath.

No complaints here
5 Star Review   By dn010 on Home Depot - Dec 2, 2012

I purchased the 68" fan after some hesitation - I was a bit worried after reading other frustrated customers comments about poor airflow. I have a cathedral ceiling with a beam running down the middle, about 12' high. I used the old 4" down rod from the old fan, cut the motor wires a little shorter and then installed everything. I have about 12" - 14" clearance between blade tip and the beams that run to the wall and the fan itself is about 24" away from the top of the ceiling; the book calls for 21.5" clearance all around. I have no issues with airflow; on high the fan doesn't turn extremely fast but moves a lot of air for me. It is silent and doesn't wobble; I've had a few other fans which needed to be balanced. I really enjoy the remote, my last fan had string attached to pull chains to turn it on and off. I've installed a lot of fans and other electrical components so this one was easy. It needs to have the remote unit installed/wired to the fan which was easy for me. I didn't get one with a light kit since I have track lighting - it was unnecessary for me to have it. All in all I have no complaints, I think the fan looks good in my living room, I couldn't picture any other fan to go in besides this one so I'm a happy camper.

Faulty Switch

2 bad fans
1 Star Review   By 13clearlake on Home Depot - Nov 2, 2012

Installed 2 fans took both back. With no load (blades removed) no motor noise, fast motor speeds in all speeds. Installed blades, motor loaded up, slowed down and noise in all settings. Manufacture said bad motor--. Would have to pay for shipping both ways-- returned fans to Home Depot. They had another one in the return cart already. If you can get one with a good motor, would be a great fan. After 2 installation on a vaulted ceiling--no more Hampton Bay fans.

fits a big room
4 Star Review   By keylime on Home Depot - Oct 21, 2012

We purchased this fan for our living room which has a vaulted ceiling. It cools the room down great bc of the large blades on the fan. My only complaint so far is that the stain they used on the blades is not very good. They are dull and rough in spots. I tried to polish them with furniture polish but it didn't help much. The fan looks fine as long as the blades are moving. Just thought the finish on them would have been nicer. As for the installation it took my son almost 4 hours to install it. He said there were a lot of screws and the holes didn't line up with where the screws were suppose to go.

Looks Large but Moves Little!
2 Star Review   By Dave on Home Depot - Oct 4, 2012

This fan has a MAXIMUM SPEED of 70rpm! You read correctly...70rpm! Most ceiling fans move 70rpm at their slowest speed and 170-200rpm at high speed. Seems the manufacturer relied on a greater "pitch angle" for air movement while lowering the speed of blade rotation. If this fan had proper RPM's, it would rock. As it is, it's going back in the box as a dud! I have this on 11' ceiling with only a 1' down pipe and there is little air movement. Many reviews like mine on the internet. Wish I would have read them earlier. Love the 68" spread but that does not make up for poor air speed.

Super Nice
5 Star Review   By Handy1 on Home Depot - Oct 3, 2012

Not only looks great, but really works well. It is large, so high speed isn't super fast, like smaller fans. However, it really pushes the air very pleasantly. I love it. Generic remote is my only complaint....too cheapie for a fan this nice.

Looks good and works great
5 Star Review   By GTinWI on Home Depot - Sep 24, 2012

I have had this fan in the great room for close to a year. I'm going to purchase a second one for the master bedroom, a light kit too. The fan is big and it moves a lot of air. I run it mostly on low and medium. The remote control is awesome. I used a 40" extended downrod on mine. A friend liked mine so I installed one on her living room ceiling. Again, looks and works great! These fans just look good. Workmanship is excellent. I gave good for ease of installation because the fan is heavy. I really could have used a helper because of the weight. If you want a classy fan that really works then this may be for you.

Dissapointed in fan speed/air movement
2 Star Review   By JPhil on Home Depot - Sep 23, 2012

The fan moves extremely slow in all speeds. It is very hard to believe this fan moves the cfm that it is rated for. The fan looks neat, but it's performance is very disappointing. A higher RPM motor for this fan would've made this fan much better.

Not All That
2 Star Review   By BigTex on Home Depot - Sep 15, 2012

First of all if you think this fan moves alot of air you haven't bought it - it doesn't- HD should make you produce a reciept to write a review.... I like the way it looks like a propeller from a plane, but the high speed on this thing is the low speed on all my other ceiling fans, no it doesn't move air, but it looks good ... hang it in your living room for commentary, not your master bed room fortrying to stay cool during all these Texas summers.

Great Fan!!
5 Star Review   By David on Home Depot - Sep 12, 2012

Purchased this fan to replace a 56 inch fan in my family room. As A lot or reviewers mentioned it does move much slower than smaller fans but produces MUCH MUCH MUCH more air flow even on low and medium speeds. With the fan on high it produced a "chill" in the room. I have it on the lowest setting and it’s perfect and still moves a lot of air. I anticipate this fan in conjunction with the new wood burning insert purchased this year will drastically reduce my heating bills this winter. The remote control is an added bonus....no more getting a ladder to adjust the speeds or put into reverse. Very easy to install and absolutely no wiggle or wobble. My only complaint is a very, very slight noticeable "hum" while running.... But once the room is filled with people talking, TV or music it is not noticeable at all.

This fan is an absolute DREAM
5 Star Review   By Sterly on Home Depot - Sep 9, 2012

We have two of these gorgeous fans. Our first we bought a couple of years ago for our living room that has high ceilings. We live in an area that has very hot summers and this is a lifesaver on a humid day. Even on low this fan moves so much air, it's wonderful. We then bought a second one for our cabin and so glad we did. Sure, it is a bit pricey but you really do get more than your moneys worth.

5 Star Review   By Maxter1 on Home Depot - Aug 23, 2012

I have had this fan for six months now and it is by far the best lloking fan I have owned but also really helps cool down my living room with super high celings. The blades don't have to turn very fast because they are so big but it creates a "breeze" effect I love it. Make sure you are not putting this close to the ceiling as it is too large. It must hang at least 18inches below. Mine is much lower than that. great buy!

Remote failed under a year
3 Star Review   By Paula on Home Depot - Aug 19, 2012

All and all the fan is good, however the remote failed after 9 months and now the fan will not function properly. It's a $25 replacement fee (the best price I found). Didn't expect tp pay more under a year for a fairly expensive fan. It's the highest price I have ever paid for a fan in my life. I tend to believe you get what you pay for but not in this product.

Love this fan
5 Star Review   By 101curlyQs on Home Depot - Aug 18, 2012

This is the best fan I have bought. It is big for the great room and best of all we live in AZ where it is hot all the time and keep it on low. It does move slow but the way the blades are curved and the size it really moves the air. Even on high it stills moves a little slow which is great because you are not blowing everything around or drying out your eyes. I am buying the smaller one for our bedroom too.

Total waste - No airflow
1 Star Review   By JasonB on Home Depot - Aug 18, 2012

The fan looks really nice and installs easy. Unfortunately, it hardly moves any air at all regardless of the speed setting. High speed on this fan is low speed on any other fan in our house. The 42" $50 fan in my kid's room works much better than this one does. Will be returning tomorrow unfortunately. Great looking fan but doesn't move enough air to make it worth the $. The wood blades are pretty cheap too... seem like they could easily break w/o much effort.

Motor Overheats on High Speed
3 Star Review   By Thomas on Home Depot - Aug 17, 2012

I bought this fan in April and wrote a five star review of its performance. Now four months later I am having seconds thoughts. I started hearing a clicking and grinding sound coming from the fan so I checked to see if any of the screws or hardware needed to be tightened on the unit. When I touched the motor casing I was surprised to find it extremely hot near the top of the fan motor. Not just warm mind you, but so hot I immediately shut it down because I was afraid it could become a safety issue. The fan only made this noise on high speed, so I now believe that the motor was being overloaded trying to turn the large fan blades at the highest speed. Home Depot was very accommodating and couldn't have been nicer at letting me bring in my fan motor and swapping it for a new one from an unopened box on the sales floor. Time will tell if the new motor experiences the same overload issues on extended high speed operation.

It's a wonderful addition to our family room. To those who think that it doesn't move a lot of air, all you have to do is push the reverse on the remote control. Believe me it moves ALOT of air. It's beautiful and quiet.

Nice Fan but has some quirk's!
4 Star Review   By CableGuy92614 on Home Depot - Aug 14, 2012

Bought the fan mainly for it's size and appearance. In looking at all the fans at the Depot, this one really stood out. I installed it in our master bedroom, which really isn't that large of a room, maybe 15' x 20' tops. Fan went in without many issues, although like some of the other reviewers here stated, it only comes with a 18" downrod. I wanted a more flush to the ceiling install so I ended up cutting down the rod to about 6" in total length. You could also simply go buy a new shorter downrod if you so desired. After it was installed, I found 2 issues with the unit. My experience with ceiling fans is that when you want to reverse the motor, you stop the fan, push the reverse button on the remote, and then re-start the fan. According to Hampton Bay, the fan has to be running in medium or high speed, and then you push the reverse button. I have my doubts about this as it seems that this would put undue wear on the motor over time, but that's what they told me to do. In other words, if the fan is stopped and you push the reverse button on the remove, it does not reverse the direction of the fan. The fan needs to be running in order for it to change direction. Second issue was with the CFL bulbs that came with the fan. When I turned off the light (I purchased the optional light kit) one of the bulbs flickered for about 15 or 20 minutes and then finally went out. I called HB and they stated that even though the light kit states that it's made for CFL bulbs, I was to replace the CFL's with standard incandescent bulbs instead and this would resolve the flickering issue. I have not changed out the bulbs yet but plan to do so this weekend. Other than those 2 issues, the fan is very nice, very quiet and does turn slower than smaller fans but due to the size of the blades, it still throws quite a bit of air around.

2 Star Review   By BobM on Home Depot - Aug 13, 2012

It's all been said already...wish I had paid more attention. This fan is slow even when set to "high". Great Fan - tweak the features.
4 Star Review   By bugman on Home Depot - Aug 10, 2012

Bought the fan for a 17 ft tall greatroom in our log home - it replaced a different brand of 52" fan. I was leery of the fan based on reviews, but loved the looks. The fan moves lots of air - it stirs the air on low, and really moves it on high, far more air than the other 52" fan. I had an independent installer install the fan, and it went well - he did the tall ladder work! The wiring for the fan out of the box is only for a 48" downrod, and my installation needed a 72" rod - so had to splice the wires. This fan is designed for a Great Room and recommended for long downrods - put longer wiring in it! I used a 3rd party light kit, which installed easily, and works OK - the Altura light kit doesn't have near enough light for my room. The installation instructions were not clear about the fan accepting a universal light kit, but a call to Hampton Bay answered that. Instructions also not clear about which downrods would work - seems any do. The remote with this fan works as expected. All is all - a great fan; moves air, no noise, no vibration, looks great in my installation.

Great Fan
5 Star Review   By Dino on Home Depot - Aug 6, 2012

This fan calls for an 18" downrod, I called Hampton Bay and they told that I had to use no less than a 18" downrod. I have low ceilings and could not use the 18 " downrod, not with my height. I cut the rod down to 5", drilled mounting holes and mounted the fan. Not only does this fan look great, but even with the 5" downrod it cirulates the air. We love this fan and every body that comes to our house falls in love with it. I'm getting the smaller fan for the bedroom.

Disappointed
1 Star Review   By H2osx4 on Home Depot - Jul 31, 2012

I wish I had read these reviews before purchase and installation. The fan looks great! But there is not enough power to generate much air flow in the room (18' ceiling in a 20 X 13 room). Nice to look at, but no power and I agree with one other reveiwer...not enough light kit options. We purchased a "it will do" light but does not add to the appeal to the fan nor the room.

All Show little GO
3 Star Review   By UnKool on Home Depot - Jul 30, 2012

Great looking fan with aerodynamic looking blades, box says it will move 8752 cfm (cubic feet per minute) of air twice the standard fans with the price more than doubled, light kit extra - Please turn the fan on at Home Depot to check/test airflow before purchasing, I would have not bought this unit if did an actual test of air flow, instead of believing the truly fabricated specification claim of 8752 CFM. The 3 speeds go from slow to slower to slowest, definitely not worth the money if you want strong airflow. Remote is nice. It is physically impossible to move 8752 cfm on 90 watts (.12 horsepower)

Great looking, all show no much go, a bit pricey
3 Star Review   By fujijohn on Home Depot - Jul 29, 2012

Bought the fan because of the looks, size and appearance of the curved blades that looked aerodynamically efficient. Install in 3 hours due to 15' ceiling & light kit. Pluses- looks great, very quiet, nice remote. Minuses- doesn't move more air than the 50" fan it replaced. High rpm is very low, installation is twice as hard as the smaller fans, broken bulbs came with light kit, hd wanted me to bring the whole lite kit back to exchange for broken bulbs. Reccomendation is to first test the air flow at the store, so you don't get hugely disappointed after the long install.

2 Star Review   By MrOpinion411 on Home Depot - Jul 24, 2012

Attractive looking fan but poor functionality. The motor was not strong enough to turn the blades to produce a decent breeze. Definitely something for decoration purposes only. Amazing!!
5 Star Review   By mookerblu on Home Depot - Jul 12, 2012

Love this Fan!! It is absolutely gorgeous!. The blades are incredibly light despite the heavy look. The fan itself is quite slow moving even on high speed, however moves triple the air that my previous fan did. The installation was a little tricky since it was installed on a 30 degree sloped ceiling about 15 feet in the air. The remote box has to be installed inside the outlet box which was tricky since there wasn't much room. My only complaint is I wish it came with other options for the light kit as I really need a light but do not like the ONLY light option.

This fan looks great installed. The install was typical with no surpsrises. I especially liked the way the blades installed compared to other fans. No brackets to install, just bolt the blades right to the fan. It moves a lot of air too. I had previously purchased some more expensive fans for other rooms, but wish I had gotten this one for those rooms instead.

Airflow is lower than expected
4 Star Review   By ShellsBells on Home Depot - Jul 6, 2012

I gave this fan a 4 star rating because while I LOVE the look of the fan (very classy) I am a bit disappointed with the amount of airflow it provides. On the high setting, it seems like the blades are moving pretty slowly (maybe because it's such a large fan), but I do not feel as much air as I would have expected on high speed. I don't think I would exchange the fan however because I really think it has a great look and the size is perfect for out large living room. Also, the additional light fixture provides a nice glow to the room. It's not too bright and not too dull...it's just right.

AWESOME FAN!
5 Star Review   By Carrie on Home Depot - Jul 5, 2012

Have 2 story. vaulted ceiling great room that was always difficult to keep cool in the summer. Air conditioning had to be set at 69 just to keep this room cool (afternoon sun in room). Looked at many ceiling fans that were large, no light kit included, that could use a long downrod AND install base at an angle. THIS WAS PERFECT. The slow speed is so you can see each blade, BUt, it is amazing the amount of air it moves....med/high speeds actually cause a chill. We have raised our air conditioner temp to 72! Research does show you can raise air conditioner temp IF you have air circulating via ceiling fan. Quiet (very slight hum if room is silent) and no vibration. I have always had ceiling fans in all my bedrooms, so I know a good one from a bad one. LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS FAN!

Great looking. Quality construction and details.
5 Star Review   By MountainBoy on Home Depot - Jul 3, 2012

Fan is one of the best I've owned. It is a beautiful, quality fan. Quiet and reliable. This is my second and the first has been turning constantly for 2 years. Electronic control installation is a bit cramped with all the wiring, but be patient and it will all fit up there. Make sure you follow the directions so you don't repeat any steps. But once it is up it is beautiful. Don't put a light kit on it. It looks so much better without one.

bought this fan yesterday and got it hung up this morning. doesnt turn real fast like a 54" fan, but with the blade design, this thing moves some air. if it wasnt for the air movement you cant tell its on. cool summer days

Great fan, with awesome looks.
5 Star Review   By Bill on Home Depot - Jun 27, 2012

No other fan in the store was as impressive as the massive 68 inch Altura. Installed its very quiet and moves the air just fine. I added a light kit which makes it more impessive. Everyone that has seen it are speachless and just say wow-nice fan. Thats the reaction I wanted.

Good value for the money
5 Star Review   By Bigredfishcatcher on Home Depot - Jun 26, 2012

I am also an electrician and had no problem with this fan. The fan does what it is design for. It circulates air virus blowing air. For the proper application it is great. Quiet and a good looking fan. If you want a fan that blows air then do not get this one.

Product has insufficient support and parts
1 Star Review   By Daniel on Home Depot - Jun 26, 2012

product (Hampton Bay fan) is made for large rooms with high ceilings. Fan only comes with standard (18") downrod. 36" downrod needed for high ceiling (13') in my house. Replacement downrods in store (Hunter) incompatible with Hampton Bay. Compatible downrods (Westinghouse) not availabe in store and unavailable nationwide in size needed (only 12 and 24" available). These wouldn't be useful for a larger fan in a higher room. Why sell the fan in the first place? A waste of time and resources for customers. Better product planning and resources needed in this case.

Too Slow to Cool Anything!!
1 Star Review   By Nette86 on Home Depot - Jun 25, 2012

I bought this fan for my bedroom. I have cathedral ceilings so I have an extended rod. I can sit right under this fan and feel nothing, even on high. :-( I wish I had seen it in motion prior to purchase. If you want to see the maximum speed, look at the video link. .. that is the fast mode. I paid an electrician to mount this, didn't want to pay to take it down and do another. It's a beautiful fan, but it serves no function.

BEAUTIFUL FAN!
5 Star Review   By Suzanne on Home Depot - Jun 6, 2012

I am not really a fan of ceiling fans as I think most of them are ugly. When I saw this fan at Home Depot, I couldn't believe it was there. It is beautiful - don't get the light kit - it cheapens the look of the fan. We got a longer rod - they can be gotten from Home Depot - the bronzes are not exactly a match, but you cannot tell because it is up by the ceiling. This is NOT a fan you run on high - it is for low or medium speed - it is stunning if you heed what I say.

Great looking fan
5 Star Review   By CPMacinnes on Home Depot - Jun 6, 2012

I replaced the fan in my Great Room with this unit, based mainly on the way it looks. The curved blades are beautiful. I agree with other reviewers who say that the blades don't spin particularly fast, even on high, and that it does not generate a hurricane of wind. It moves air, but it does not feel as windy as my other ceiling fans. Extremely quiet though. I liked this fan so much I bought two more to use outdoors on my covered patio, even though they are not recommended for outdoor use. After two years they are still working perfectly. My house has separate wall switches for Light and Fan. The instructions tell you how to wire the fan to a single switch, but it is easy to figure out how to put the lights on a separate switch. We bought another, much more expensive fan, that could only be run on one switch, so I started checking for this on subsequent ceiling fans.

Great fan, Silent! Moves lots of air!
5 Star Review   By Lance on Home Depot - May 29, 2012

I love the unique look of this fan and it does it's job even better! I have this fan in a vaulted great room. On the low setting it moves enough air to keep things cool, but you hardly notice the draft and it doesn't make a sound! It's all remote controlled including reverse, which is nice, no climbing ladders any more. The included "downrod" was too short for the vaulted ceiling, so had to buy a longer one. You can buy a light kit separately, but for this fan the kit looked ugly and I didn't need it for for this room.

Best Fan Ever Made
5 Star Review   By Sarah on Home Depot - May 28, 2012

We have two of these in our home - one in the living room and one in our bedroom. Really old house, no a/c, very little insulation, 9-11' ceilings. Rooms get very hot and humid in summer! This fan is phenomenal. Whisper quiet, excellent circulation even on low setting. Optional light kit looks great and has a dimmer. Love the remote control. Curved wooden fan blades look classy and keep things breezy and cool - no need for window a/c units or any other fan. We LOVE this fan!! Installation was a little tricky, but no major issues.

.Stay away...
2 Star Review   By wallnj on Home Depot - May 28, 2012

Remote stopped working and had to install wall switch. Ordered new remote, no luck. It is stuck in one speed and who knows what is wrong. Less than 2 years old, very disappointing. Probably a circuit in the fan, but seeing similar complaints and no resolution on bulletin boards... STAY AWAY!

It's exactly what we wanted
5 Star Review   By coolinvegas on Home Depot - May 23, 2012

Not sure why some people had so many problems because it works great and it was easy to install. It has a soft and comfortable downdraft......and very quiet.

LOOKS GOOD RUNS BAD
1 Star Review   By MyOpCounts on Home Depot - May 18, 2012

We bought this fan for our high ceiling living room because we really like the style. After a not-so-fun 1/2 day of many trips up and down an extension latter installing this uncommonly heavy unit, we stood back and admired the great looking fan. THEN WE TURNED IT ON and discovered a LOUD HUMMING SOUND in all 3 speeds. We could just imagine trying to watch TV, let alone have a conversation with that significant humming sound. So, I drove back to HD and exchanged the unit. The replacement fan was just as loud on high. Another disappointment is the fan does not move much air...go figure. We disassembled and returned the thing, having wasted gas back and forth to HD and an entire day.

Looks fantastic, but could use one higher speed
4 Star Review   By AZGuy on Home Depot - May 17, 2012

The fan looks fantastic on my vaulted ceiling. The curved wood blades really set this fan off. The install was as easy as fans go. The fan required no balancing, it runs dead smooth. I have to agree with all of the reviews that state the fan runs slower than most 50" fans. It does move a lot of air, but it will not "blow" on you like the smaller fans. It is as if the fan needs 1 more speed for that to happen. I have a 70" Hunter Douglas fan that runs similar to this fan.

I love these fans. Have two in our great room. They are going to save having to put in central air-conditioning. Beautiful!
5 Star Review   By Sess on Home Depot - May 15, 2012

Have one set on pushing air down and one on pulling air up. Makes our great room so comfortable. Thought maybe they were too big (bought two 68" fans) but they work beautifully on low and high. Would buy them again. The wood is magnificent too.

Confused!
4 Star Review   By Kitty on Home Depot - May 12, 2012

I purchased this fan yesterday and had it installed today. Its only been installed 2 hours.......Im confused! Some reviews responded too slow, some too fast. Mine is very slow, however its seems cool. Dont really have the full effect until this Texas-heat hit tomorrow! Question: Should the fan move slow on high speed or is it a fast moving fan?

Garbage
1 Star Review   By NWarman on Home Depot - May 6, 2012

The first fan I bought had a problem with the motor. It was defective. I returned it. The second had such cheap screws that two stripped when I attempted to mount the fan. That meant a trip back to the store for a third, which died after 24 hours of use - another shot motor. I am disgusted with the product, to the point that I posted this to have others avoid the aggravation I have gone through with this model.
