IF I COULD RATE IT A ZERO I WOULD.
Weakness: Motor Blow Out In Two Months, Poor Workmanship, Falsely Advertised
My Exacto Boston School Pro Pencil Sharpener rating needs to be ZERO because it is a ZERO.
We live in a school district that still send to the classroom and endorses the hand crank pencil sharper that screw on the wall. This is a bad idea in the classroom especially when you have 20-25 students in the class room, lined up to sharpen their pencils in the morning. The students would spend 30 minutes in the morning just to sharpen pencils. This product is advertised as SCHOOL PRO that teachers endorsed, “SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR CLASSROOM USE. THE ONLY KID-TESTED, TEACHER-APPROVED ELECTRIC PENCIL SHARPENER” so I thought it would be a good idea for my daughter’s class, what a mistake.
I bought 4 of them for second grade classes in the building, and kept one for my home, as when it is homework time we need pencils with 3 children in the house. They were all loud, would only work for 5 pencils then shut down for at least an hour, and after only 2 months of use they all completely broke one after another. The motor would quit working and internal mechanism failed. When I gave out the pencil sharpeners I was hailed as a hero but when they broke I was scorned. I used their return policy and got all new pencil sharpeners, but the replacements all broke within 2 months also.
What I have learned from this experience is only buy a commercial grade sharpener for a class room, ask around, do research on what you are buying, read the reviews and believe them they bought it so that person would know. I had read bad reviews on this product, but I thought that person just got a bad one, but when it happened to me, I felt taken advantage of. I paid $40 each for the 5 I bought totaling $200 what an expensive lesson. If I could rate it a ZERO I would. This pencil sharpener is junk, don’t waist your money.

tried it twice
Strengths: quick and quiet
Weakness: blunt and broken pencils
First one I had within three months was only sharpening down one side of the pencils. They replaced it and within 4 months it was sharpening the pencils, but somehow it would break them about 1/4" down so when you would go to write it would fall out. Certainly not worth the money.

Boston School Pencil Sharpener
Strengths: Large holder for shavings, multiple pencil sizes, cord length
Weakness: Became dull after about 7 months, breaks pencil lead (graphite) when dull
I returned my first one after about 7 months because it was breaking the pencil lead (graphite) when sharpening inexpensive pencils. Boston replaced it with an E-ACTO. It became dull after about 7 months and is now breaking pencil lead again. Can't use it and Boston tells me there is no way to replace the blades.

No Repair Parts
Strengths: It sticks well to counter
Weakness: Goes out of adjustment very quickly
This unit sticks well and hold a lot of shavings. The automatic start is operated by a thin, small spring when a pencil is put in, it pushes on a lever that will move and activate a micro switch to turn it on. This Spring Breaks very easy and then the Pencil Sharpener stays on! A metal piece of metal that acts as a auto-shut off gets out of adjusment very easily and then the pencils get sharpened either too far, on the side etc; This unit is not even made in the USA. I've tried to get parts and I was told "You can not get parts for these." THESE BOSTON PENCIL SHARPENERS (model #1670) ARE JUNK. Schools should stay away from these. With the spring breaking while nobody is around it could over heat. THIS COULD BE A FIRE HAZZARD...

The first period of time - all...
Strengths: Does various sizes which most others dont do.
Weakness: Got blunt very quickly. Inside 6 months - one had to spend up to a minute to sharpen a large pensil.
The first period of time - all went well. But the fact
that it went blunt within a short period of time and
I could find no way of resharpening it ment that I
must now buy a new one. My advice - Avoid any sharpener
which offers no easy replacement for the cutter mechanism.
This happened just through home use. In a school environment
this would have occured much sooner.

Don't buy it
Strengths: Worked great for about a month
Weakness: It stops working quickly
Students complained after a month that it wasn't sharpening their pencils. And people wonder why schools pay so much money out...they need supplies that last longer than the school year!!! And supplies that they shouldn't be buying yearly.

Boston School Pro is a keeper!
Strengths: This sharpener is quiet. It sharpens very fast. I like the see-through shavings container...it helps to know when to empty.
Weakness: I sure haven't found any weaknesses. I'm very satisfied.
My 1st graders love this pencil sharpener. It is lightning fast and sharpens into a short sharp point. I have not found a pencil yet that it will not sharpen. I have 2 electric sharpeners, but my class will only use this one, due to it's ease of use. It is very quiet and gets the job done quickly.
I have a teacher friend who recommended that I try this sharpener. She has used hers for 2 years, and it's still going strong.

Boston School Pro Pencil Sharpener
Strengths: Sharpens even pencils that are coated and jam up other sharpeners. Sharpens various sizes of pencils.
This is the best pencil sharpener I have ever used. It sharpens everything including pencils wrapped in pretty coatings. We have one in every classroom in our school. You will love this sharpener!

Not good for school, not continuous
Strengths: Pretty colors
Weakness: It is not reliable
This pencil sharpener lasted five weeks in a second grade classroom in St. Paul, MN. Now it overheats in five minutes. The kids tested it and it failed big time. The teacher does not approve, I am sure. This is not a good product and I do not recommend buying it at all.

Boston School Pro
Strengths: Love the way you can empty it, it's really easy for students to do by themselves. It's kind of heavy so that is really good for counter type sharpeners. I really like the price as well. Thanks!
I really like the overall product, it's easy enough for students to empty by themselves, and has the heavy weight that counter top sharpener needs, and the price wasn't half bad either.

Strengths: It's nice looking
Weakness: Does not last more than 7 months.
I bought this product for my first classroom and expected that it would perform as better in than others with high volume use. It started going wrong when the graphite would be broken coming out of the sharpen. Then the points got duller. Next, it began to take longer sharpen each pencil. Finally, it just stopped sharpening to a usuable point. A new teacher does not need to make repeated pruchases of the same product; there are enough things for us to purchase. I would not recommend this product even if you could replace the blade.

don't waste your money
Weakness: loud, breaks pencils, wears out quickly
I am a school teacher and I sharpen about 45 pencils everyday. This sharpener worked really well for about 3 months. After that, it got very loud and now breaks the pencils or only sharpens one side of the pencil. I will never buy another one, which is the conclusion that several of my other colleagues came to as well! Don't waste your money!

Strengths: the first few weeks it works great
Weakness: after the honeymoon...it's divorce court
I thought I was buying a "heavy-duty" sharpener and spent nearly $70 for it last year thinking I would save money in the long run. Nope. It worked great for the first month or so, then, you had to push the pencil in for a long time to get it sharpened and eventually the motor would seize. Hey, what do you want to be that this piece of _____ is made in China?

Steer clear of this one!
Strengths: None I can think of!
Weakness: Has spent more time getting fixed than sharpening pencils.
Between myself )my wife is a teacher) and the school janitor, this over-priced sharpener has spent more time on the repair bench than in the classroom - the drive mechanism fails consistently and the cutter has gone dull in a very short period - the school paid $40 for these units and will not make the same mistake next time.

Don't waste your money. Breaks pencils. I agree with other unsatisfactory reviews. I was pleased for about 6 months...now I am ready to trash it and look for other options.

Boston Pencil Sharpener for 6th Grade
Strengths: Large capacity, "heavy Duty" Motor
Weakness: Shor life ??
This is my second unit that I am using in a elementary 6th grade environment.
Man, the first one was a tank, and with extreme heavy use, it lasted me a whole school year. This second one though, it seem to be less rugged, although from the outside it looks identical. For example, the old one would crank with a lot of torque, where as this one gets stuck even with pencils with stickers on the outside. I don't get it.
There is really no other choice out there. All others are real, light duty. I wish I could replace the blades. . . seems a waste to have to replace the whole thing.
