Works Great
5 Star Review   By JoeNick on Home Depot - May 21, 2013

This was my third hot water dispenser. All three same model. The previous ones lasted about six years. The only difference in this and the last one was the handle. The first one I owned had a sturdy plastic handle. Happy I kept the old handle when the one on the last one broke after a few years. Also, the washer securing the spout into the top of the dispenser tends to wear out from rotating the spout. Easy to fix when it happens. It's really convenient to have an affordable hot water tap. It reduces use of the microwave and running the hot water for washing small items. It's easy to replace but first installation may take a little longer. I recommend this product to anyone looking for the convenience of hot water on tap at an affordable price.

My Hot Shot 1 has lasted since 2004
4 Star Review   By Sammie3269 on Home Depot - May 13, 2013

I got almost nine years of service from this product. Yes, it occasionally sputtered and the handle broke twice. But I called customer service, and received a free handle both times. I used it a lot. Am now going to order another one to replace it. Hopefully, this one will last 9 years also.(I had the first one installed, will try to install this one ourselves.)

Not as nice as I had hoped
3 Star Review   By Phil on Home Depot - May 3, 2013

I bought this Instant Hot Water Dispenser model because of the faucet height. This particular model has the tank right under the faucet, however, which was not made clear on the box or brochure. This forced me to make a new hole (I was replacing a previous model which had burned out) because the tank wouldn't fit where the old faucet had been. The faucet valve appears to be flimsy. The faucet frequently dribbles, and steams, and the valve handle is not at all solid feeling. "Flimsy" is the term that comes to mind. I have no reason to think this product will last very long.

5 Star Review   By chattamab on Home Depot - Apr 23, 2013

We installed this as a replacement. The original hot water dispenser (same make, btw) had begun spitting out tiny black granules and failed to heat the water after 9 years. So far so good.

So annoyed I quit using it after one day
1 Star Review   By MrJosh on Home Depot - Apr 14, 2013

I bought this little heater in order to have hot water on-demand for cups of tea. It installed easily enough, but works terribly. At the factory preset of 190ºF, it boils all of the water out of the tank. Per instructions, I turned the thermostat down low enough so that it quit constantly bubbling/steaming, but by that point, the water was coming out at a mere 165ºF, so I had to heat it up the rest of the way in the microwave. What's the point?!

Worked great for 8 years
4 Star Review   By Huggie on Home Depot - Mar 26, 2013

Got mine in April 2004. It just stopped heating, April 2013. I guess I got my dollars worth out of it. Not sure if I am going to replace it or not; I didn't use it enough. If I do replace it, I will install it myself.

just okay
2 Star Review   By anotherproject on Home Depot - Mar 12, 2013

This is our fourth unit in 9 years. The first one leaked right away so we replaced it. The second unit lasted three years until it stopped heating the water. The third unit started leaking after 5 years and we just installed the fourth unit. I don't know how long these are supposed to last, but I'm not overwhelmed. Too bad there isn't more of a selection because I'd be happy to try another brand that fit my sink. It does do a good job of heating the water and you can adjust how hot you want the water to be. The installation was pretty easy, considering you have to crawl under the sink to do it. I like the convenience of having the hot water instantly, and it's much safer than lifting/carrying a pyrex measuring cup to and from the microwave when I need hot water. It's a good product, but they need to make it to last longer than 5 years.

4 Star Review   By teadrinkersx2 on Home Depot - Feb 5, 2013

This was a replacement of the same unit I installed in 2002. The old one got a small hole in it. I am more than pleased that I got 10yrs. out of the other unit. I have my reverse osmosis water hooked to it, this may be why it lasted so long. Use it multiple times a day as both of us are tea drinkers.

5 Star Review   By Tomato on Home Depot - Jan 18, 2013

I installed one in 2006 mainly to please my wife who had asked about one. I was dubious, but since installed it has become indispensable - we all use it routinely. Six years later it was working fine until I broke the handle pressing maybe a little too hard. I'm here now looking for the replacement. It's been a great 'luxury' I wouldn't have a sink without one.

1 Star Review   By Jims on Home Depot - Oct 29, 2012

I'm on my second dispenser. Worked intermittently, spit and spewed everyday and now the tank leaks. Of course it's out of warranty. Going to try a waste king brand. It has very good reviews and costs less.

Better than nothing if you don't want to brew a whole pot of coffee.
2 Star Review   By Ldev on Home Depot - Sep 11, 2012

Takes a few seconds for the water to come out of the spout. A lot of "spitting" air and hot water. First cup of water that comes out each morning has to be microwaved. These do not have a long shelf life, they break frequently.

Working
3 Star Review   By HomeownerArt on Home Depot - Jul 24, 2012

1. Instruction never said to insert chrome outlet. I had the unit installed and I went to insert the outlet and the holes did not line up. I tried to move the top to line them up and then the handle come off. Could not move cover to align. 2. I had to remove the entire unit and then I had to insert a phillips head screwdriver and managed to move the pipe inside. 3. installed the handle again. 4. reinstalled the entire unit. 5. wanted the handle on the side but the unit would only fit with the handle behind.

5 Star Review   By Kathy on Home Depot - May 23, 2012

We had a different instant hot water at our last house and have been missing it for 18 months. I chose this one for the low price and complete system in one box. I had it professionally installed. I like this one better than the one we had before. Great for making tea, instant coffee, or decrease cooking time with anything needing boiling water. You won't regret getting this product.

5 Star Review   By Skip on Home Depot - Sep 27, 2011

The longevity of these hot water dispensers is rather limited to 3-4 years, and then they begin to leak. This one is inexpensive, and does the job.

Exact replacement
4 Star Review   By Jimm on Home Depot - Sep 20, 2011

This item was an exact replacement for my unit which burned out after only 3 1/2 years..In my opinion, the unit is overpriced based on the materials and assembly labor. I hope this unit lasts longer.

A poorly engineered product
1 Star Review   By shopper on Home Depot - Sep 16, 2011

This entry level water heater replaced the same model which lasted seven years before the tank corroded and leaked..The flow lever deteriorated a year earlier. I bought the same model online via H D for ease of reconnecting but the "NEW" unit spit and emitted steam from day 1 of installation. MANUFACTURER'S Customer service suggested "waiting a week to let it get used to your location" (like a new puppy ?) I returned it to HOME DEPOT store for refund and bought another brand (lower cost..better design, works great )unfortunately not carried in store by H D

Long-lasting convenience
4 Star Review   Home Depot

When I bought my first home, one of the first things I asked for was an instant hot water dispenser for my kitchen. My mom thought I was crazy, however after she saw that I used it (in the winter) almost every day she realized I really would make use of the unit. After I got married and had my first child, we even used it to quickly add hot water to the formula to make a slightly warm bottle, used it to make instant oatmeal and of course used it to make hot beverages. I was in that house for just over 5 years and had no problems with the unit (this model). When my husband and I bought our first home together and moved in, it was one of the things I insisted on having. Aside from the above-mentioned, I also found it handy to quickly remove oily kids fingerprints from the backs of CD/DVD's. Once again we bought this model. It worked fine, although was a bit noiserier than I remember the first one being. At around 4 years of age, the handle began sticking and sometimes wouldn't quickly stop flowing, a few months later the heather stopped working. I will buy another one, likely this same model because it is very cost effective. I love the unit and wouldn't have a home without one for the convenience factor!

Tank Developes Leak
1 Star Review   By nsudemon74 on Home Depot - Aug 23, 2010

I installed this unit not three years ago. The tank has developed a slow leak at the bottom of the outer cover. I read several other reviews and found several users have experienced the same problem. This product has a serious design flaw that could damage your cabnets.

Love this hot water dispenser
4 Star Review   By AmyNJ on Home Depot - Apr 30, 2010

Have been using this every day for a month and am very pleased with the temperature and availability of the hot water supply. I will say that it could use more insulation around the unit both for efficiency and sound. Not that the unit is loud, but you can hear it when it goes through a heating cycle. Installation wasn't hard, but converting the copper supply pipe on the unit to work with the nylon supply pipe from the water filter was a chore. Overall the convenience and ease of use makes this totally worth it!

Not the best on the market
2 Star Review   By member stevedana - Dec 18, 2009

Strengths: Heats well

Weakness: Very loud sounding

We enjoy the product for what we need it for. Our biggest complaint is that it rumbles a lot as it is heating the water. It is very irritating. I also feel it probably uses to much electricity to heat but have not really tested it to know for sure. Next time I will do a little more research before buying one.

Instant Hot Dispenser
5 Star Review   By Larry44 on Home Depot - Nov 16, 2009

We have had these in every house we have owned for over 40 years and love them. Easy to install and provides plenty of hot water for all our needs, both cooking and drink making. We have never had one fail and it was one of the first items to be installed when moving to our new home.

You get what you pay for
1 Star Review   By member fcubed - Apr 26, 2009

Strengths: cheapest instant hot unit on the market

Weakness: does not last long. horrible customer support.

I redid my kitchen 9 years ago and have already had 3 of these due to various failures. This time the tank gave out an flooded my sink cabinet with water. Unfortunately, once you use this model, you can't use any other without major changes to the installation because of the size and hookup. There is a reason they only give you a 1 year warranty. Do your self a favor and buy a more expensive unit from the start. It will save you money in the long run.

Used to be good, now not so much
2 Star Review

Strengths: instant hot water

Weakness: tank starts leaking after two and a half years

I've now had five of these twist-handle type under sink hot water heaters. The first, bought in 1984, lasted for over ten years, before the tank gave out and sprang a leak. The next one lasted four years. The last two have only lasted two and one half years before the tank began leaking (unrepairable). The warranty is only for a year, so you wind up dismantling and tossing out the whole unit and having to buy another. Very disappointed recently - I had thought it was a GREAT product originally, but the quality of the tanks has gone downhill.

Has worked for us
4 Star Review   By member yenrab66 - Feb 8, 2008

Strengths: Dispenses hot water. Long lasting

Weakness: Uhh, gave out after 8 years.

We bought this in 2000 when our twins were born. It was perfect for warming formula in the middle of the night. We've moved it to our 3rd house since then, and it recently started having problems with draining the tank between uses. (Like a check valve quit working.) We don't use it for formual anymore, but it's great for hot chocolate, Post-Um, quick rinsing, etc. I plan to buy another. Hope the other 2 reviews are anomalies, because I'd hate it if they're not making this product as well as they used to.

This is a reasonably good one. they usually last about 10 years I'd highly recommend having this (or an upgraded version) in ALL homes. It's a can't-live-without appliance in our household." I am on my third one in 25 years.

Expensively convenient
3 Star Review   By SUMMERCLOUDconst on Home Depot - Dec 7, 2007

Although the cost of this unit is fair by todays standards, the cost of operation should warrant it obsolete. The first cup might only cost pennies, your next cup the following morning could be well over a dollar. I like the one piece faucet-tank construction. However the lack of insulation on the tank makes the unit reheat and reheat the same water as often as every twenty minutes. The 500 watt heating element will heat the water to any temperature depending on the setting of the thermostat and do it quickly. The absense of maintaining that temperature is not a feasible trade off for the lower cost of the unit. We've owned dozens of simular units and I have installed and repaired hundreds of hot water dispensers. Simple repairs of these units greately increase their life. Installation of this unit was simple. However, I could not find specifications for the faucet to back splash distance to accommodate the handle clearance until afterI purchased the unit. A seperate hole had to be drilled. I would reccommend this unit only if some means of insulating was considered. And perhaps a switch operated power source for long periods of non use. With todays concerns toward energy conservation, despite comfortable incomes, manufactors should place the overall cost of a product over the cheap price to get it sold.

How to heat your sink
2 Star Review   By JDGranbury on Home Depot - Nov 13, 2007

As I unpacked the unit I wondered how long it would last, looks real cheaply made. I had my plumber install the unit, it went in fast and with little problem. Its the operation that concerns me, its noisy and due to the fact that the hot water tank is attached directly to the sink, unlike the more expensive model, it does an excellent job of heating the sink in addition to the water stored in the tank. I am afraid that the cost of operation will be higher than normal due to the design of the tank.

It's and okay unit.
2 Star Review

Strengths: None really, it works fine for the price.

Weakness: Does sputter steam and hot water once in a while, but I haven't experienced that enough times to make it an issue.

We have had this unit for about 3 or 4 years and it has worked fine considering it's about the cheapest one available. Considering the other two reviews, I'm surprised ours has lasted this long, but it now only dispenses cold water, so when we buy another we will probably upgrade for a better longer lasting unit. Also only used by two adults and not abused in any way. Love the concept, but if you are considering buying one, you may want to save a little more money and upgrade a bit.

piece of junk
1 Star Review

Strengths: hot water when it works

Weakness: the whole thing is cheap and everything about it breaks.

I went through a handle breaking off last year...handle cost about 99 cents to replace and the shipping was 10 bucks. A year later the whole heating element broke, which is not replaceable so the whole thing is now trash. Of course it only has a year warrenty and the thing barely made it a year before it was toast. Save your money and buy another brand even. Insink Erator has horrible customer service to boot.

Terrible Product
1 Star Review   By member grosslawn - Aug 7, 2007

Strengths: The idea behind the product

Weakness: Poorly engineered product.

My house is three years old and I've had two of these dispensers. Neither worked properly. They both quit heating water after several months, and sputtered and spewed, and it was only used occasionally by adults. Now just cold water comes out. I'm buying a different brand next time.

Insinkerator 1 is junk
1 Star Review

Strengths: hot water - but that's what we paid for

Weakness: burst after two years - junk

I've gone through five of these in eleven years - they are just cheap junk. I bought because it fittrd in the limited space available, but having the darn things burst one day is expensive and annoying.

Don't buy
1 Star Review   By member irsmalls - Feb 21, 2007

Weakness: Black plastic lever breaks off. Water not hot enough. sputters.

In two years of use by 2 people, the black plastic handle has snapped off. Also the unit sputters steam and hot water. The manufacturer says to turn the temp. down to avoid this, but your have to turn it down so low that then the water is not hot enough. My unit is not under warranty for the handle as the warranty is only good for one year. Don't buy this as it is made cheaply.

LOVE IT!!!
4 Star Review   By Woods on Home Depot - Feb 2, 2007

I'd give this a 5* rating if it's lifespan was longer. We're on our 2nd one in just under 4 years (and it's probably getting close to time for a 3rd one...) But, they're pretty reasonably priced (though our first one was right at $100 four years ago), and my hubby was easily able to handle installing the new one -- so no repair costs. :) The convenience of this little gadget, however, definitely outweighs any of the negatives. Even my young daughter can make herself a bowl of oatmeal or a cup of hot chocolate w/ ease. Only safety concern I've had is people confusing it w/ a soap dispenser and sticking their hand under the water. But that's been VERY rare and they only do it once.... LOL I'd highly recommend having this (or an upgraded version) in ALL homes. It's a can't-live-without appliance in our household.

No Good
1 Star Review   By KAGW on Home Depot - Jan 4, 2007

We are on our second one of these products and now this new one is not working properly. It says you can get 40 cups of "almost" boiling water in an hour, but even when it was brand new we couldn't really get a second cup of tea in a row. The first cup is hot enough (not sure I'd say "almost" boiling), but the second was barely luke warm. Even turned all the way up (in the hottest position) it did not have enough hot water to produce a second cup of tea (or whatever). We had to microwave the water to make it boiling just to steep a tea bag. Now this second system won't even give us a first cup of hot water and keeps spitting out steam and spattering water all over - yet the water is not hot when you push the lever. We are very disappointed in this product and feel we've wasted a couple of hundred dollars for nothing.

IN-SINK-ERATOR Hot-1 hot water dispenser
5 Star Review   Home Depot

This product was easy to install. It works as advertised. The only dislike is that it is somewhat noisy when heating the water but that does not take long for each cycle.
