M-Audio Studiophile AV 40
4 Star Review  cnet.com - Mar 27, 2008

THE GOOD: The Studiophile AV 40 is a larger-than-average PC speaker system that makes a bigger-than-average sound; large 4-inch woofer, 1-inch tweeter; 20 watts per speaker; rock solid medium-density fiberboard construction; Bass Boost switch. THE BAD: Large size (for PC/desktop speakers) may be an issue for some buyers. THE BOTTOM LINE: M-Audios Studiophile AV 40 is a PC speaker for music lovers who care more about sound quality than compact size or rock bottom pricing.

Great
5 Star Review   By member corman107 - Aug 8, 2008

Strengths: Strong bass for having no sub. Incredible separation of sounds. Many different connections.

Weakness: Bass isn't as great as some systems that have a sub.

My goal was to find the best speakers, with the overall best sound quality, and without a subwoofer(due to space constraints), all for $200 or less. After reading numerous reviews, these M-Audio's sounded like they fit the bill. Much to my surprise, when I tried them out for the first time, they utterly destroyed my previous set of 5.1 speakers in every possible category, except for bass. This is forgivable because they do not have a subwoofer. However, my main use for these speakers is music, not movies or games, so the amount of bass is more than enough for my needs. These are by far the best 2.0 speakers I have ever listened to which cost under $1000 for the pair.
