The ION TAPE2PC cassette recorder is a fine addition to the tape archive arsenals. I have quite a few cassette tapes that I used in the distant past to record events and live broadcasts from special occasions from the radio dating back 25 years. Some of these tapes are very fragile. I was really worried about 6 of my tapes, that I only had one chance at putting the music I had on them on my computer. In all everything turned out great and I can't be anymore happier than I am right now.
This unit is basic and comes with three versions of software you can use to record to your computer. When I got it I unpacked it, connected it to my computers usb port and it was recognized right away. I put the software cd in and it came up and displayed the three ways, which were to record basic, basic using ITUNES, and advanced. I used the basic with ITUNES version. The basicITUNES version did everything I wanted and was intuitive enough for me to follow along. Note: Recording individual tracks are a breeze but some thought and attention is required when recording live broadcasts without pauses. In my case I used "Create a New Track" to create individual tracks while I was recording. When I was finished recording the program asked if I wanted to import the tracks into ITUNES and I did. I was then asked to put in an album, artist and track titles. When finished it automatically converted and imported the music into ITUNES
I have been playing the music I recorded (via cd player) in my truck and they sound great.
Bottom line is that if you have tapes you really want to archive, buy this unit, it comes with everything you need.

do yourself a favor

Strengths: none

Weakness: all

buy an inexpensive single cassette deck and a sound card,then you can download all analog sources and not get stuck with this pile of junk.let the buyer beware!

ion tape to pc so easy a caveman can do it

Weakness: works to well

got as a christmas gift hooked it up and started to move my old tapes to pc and then to cd this was the easiest pc iteam i ever installed
