This portrait demonstration was completed on location at the North Port Art Center, North Port, Florida, USA on August 1st, 2008 during a weekly portrait class. During the course of the demonstration, artist and teacher, Ron Sanders, shows a common method for progressively building an oil painting through the following stages: 1.) composition 2.) drawing 3.) value 4.) color 5.) texture and 6.) detail. During the demo, Ron discusses the reasons for this progression and its benefits, use of a temperature based palette, analysis of color by hue, value and chroma, color mixing, brush use, and paint application. This 2-disc set has a total run time of approximately 169 minutes. At the end of disc 2 is a selection of other works by the artist that give the viewer an idea of how the artist applies these techniques to a variety of subjects of various complexities from plein air landscapes to studio figurative paintings.
