Commercial???
2 Star Review   By ewargaerga on Home Depot - Jun 4, 2013

I don't know what commercial they're referring to, but this is about as flimsy as it gets. I bought two, started assembling one. The shelves get bent in shipping, but the metal was so thin you can bend them back into shape with your fingers. The only saving grace is that once finished, braced, and loaded (not TOO much stuff), it was passable for light to medium storage. Took a long time to assemble with tons of screws. Can't beat the price. I am returning the second one and have already gotten a higher quality Edsal unit to replace it that is far sturdier and much easier and faster to assemble and it only somewhat more expensive ($69 instead of $39).

Okay product, but good price.

Get what you pay for. Was missing a piece when I received it, and the holes aren't aligned the best. With a little hard work they're installed and now my stuff is off the ground.

solid shelving unit - plenty of nuts and bolts
4 Star Review   By Hoarderwannabe on Home Depot - Apr 30, 2013

it takes some effort to assemble and about 45 minutes (30 after some practice) but the result is a sturdy shelf. I turned several shelves upside down to give the shelf a lip and keep things from sliding off. Definitely worth the money - it's a solid inexpensive unit. OH - it came with plenty of nuts and bolts so I didn't have to chase everything I dropped.

Weeble Wobble - must modify instructions for stability
1 Star Review   By rabf on Home Depot - Apr 30, 2013

I bought two of these shelves to use as industrial-style bookshelves in my house. I followed the instructions to put the first one together, hoping all the while that when I finally got to the "tighten all screws" part, it would sturdy up a bit. It didn't. Nothing lined up and rolled metal on the underside of the shelves entirely blocked some holes. The down/upside of the whole thing not lining up is that the metal is so thin, you can pretty much bend it to your will. Even together and with all the screws tightened, I picked up one side of the shelf and the whole thing turned into funhouse twisty version of itself. I ended up using it as a shelf in my potting shed where I'm less concerned about aesthetics. I was so angry and frustrated with the first shelf that I put off assembling the second one for weeks. But when I finally did, I overlapped the main vertical supports by three holes instead of just one as the instructions recommend. That made it far more steady, since the crossing supports also had to overlap a bit.

made of foil!
1 Star Review   By Oleggio on Home Depot - Apr 21, 2013

The two shelving units arrived a few days ago and I hoped they'd be better than same-priced shelves I purchased at Costco. Today, I opened the first box and tried to put it together. I've expected that there are plenty of nuts and bolts, but I didn't expect the shelves and support be so flimsy and all bent, especially at corners (where bolts go in). The product is made of sheets of metal just slightly thicker than foil. It's bends easily and the manufacturer packed items too tightly. When units are shipped, it doesn't take too long before the parts are all messed up inside the package. I gave up after wasting an hour on trying to push the bolts through. I checked, the second unit has the same problem. So, I'll return them both to HD. Also, the instructions are poor. I compare it with IKEA's instructions which are text-less, but have excellent representation. Here, the instructions are verbose, but surprisingly poor. For example, manufacturer doesn't tell you whether the bolts should go in from outside in or from inside out (trust me, it's not obvious) and so on. Thing plastic caps are provided for the legs, but I imagine they easily come off leaving rough metal exposed on the floor (with heavy weights on shelves). If you want to disassemble it, you'd be going through the same nightmare of unscrewing a hundred or so nuts and bolts. HD mostly provides high quality products at various prices, but this product is out of it's normal line of business.

The shelving units were hard to assemble and flimsy.
3 Star Review   By Marcella on Home Depot - Apr 16, 2013

I chose price when finding shelving (thinking all would be similar), and it was a mistake. The shelves are flimsy and bend with weight of boxes I needed to store. Also the shelves were not easy to assemble, not rocket science but lots of screws and braces and holes to keep even for shelves,

Steel shelving that gives a net 12 square feet of additional storage per unit
4 Star Review   By PiedPiper on Home Depot - Apr 2, 2013

Well designed steel shelving units that will hold over a half ton of items. Taking 3 sq ft of floor they will store 15 sq ft of items. The assembly can be a bit tedious, but when completed are very good addenda to a shop.

good value compared to some
4 Star Review   By naterater on Home Depot - Mar 27, 2013

I didn't have a whole lot of money to spend on shelving so you get what you pay for. The product is a little time consuming to put together and hard to get straight when tightening down bolts. Fairly rigid and able to hold a descent amount of weight. for the price I can't complain about much. It does much better screwed to a wall.

Price/Utility makes this a good buy.
5 Star Review   By Kreative1 on Home Depot - Mar 19, 2013

Expect to take a min. of 30 min. to lay out and assemble. Don't tighten bolts until you have all shelves and braces in place. This will allow better bolt hole alignment. When everthing is assemble and tightened, it is a good light to medium duty shelving unit for the shop or garage. Just what I wanted! Note: You can use a screwdriver to put into the holes to assist with alignment.

OK for price
2 Star Review   By Sonnyze on Home Depot - Mar 12, 2013

The unit took about 2 hours to assemble. A power driver is a must. The shelves are very thin. It will do for my need but next time I will spend a little more for a stronger type.

Great light- to medium-duty utility shelves
4 Star Review   By mongo on Home Depot - Feb 26, 2013

These come unassembled and are a bit fiddly to assemble (85 screws per unit!) but, once you get the hang of it, they only take an hour to put up. They are light, easy to move and hold a lot of stuff.

Sturdy shelves

I can't find these shelves in the stores anymore. I use them for storing heavy boxes of closed files in my office archives. A challenge to assemble, but do-able.

An excellent Buy
4 Star Review   By ram3 on Home Depot - Nov 20, 2012

The unit was home delivered in excellent condition Instructions easy to follow and all parts intact to fit the shelves required a little extra force because during shipping the steel does bend a bit. It required that little extra manipulation but on the whole it is really a good product

Very poor quality of shelving
1 Star Review   By beachbird on Home Depot - Aug 14, 2012

This took 2 days to put together and it does not stand erect but rather leans to one side, even though it was put together according to specs. Very disappointed in this product from Home Depot and it is useless as it is. Will have to purchase a replacement for our purpose.

Not worth your time
1 Star Review   By Hank on Home Depot - Apr 24, 2012

Half the holes did not line up with the uprights. The shelves actually bent in the middle with very little on them. I ended up buying the plastic shelves which went together easier and held everything I put on them. Only plus was made in USA. I would have returned them but had too much time into putting them together.

less than expected for medium duty shelves
2 Star Review   By nick on Home Depot - Jan 3, 2012

I bought 3 units and each one had defects. The packaging was very poor allowing the shelfs to get damaged and paint to be chipped. The corner supports were cut the wrong length for hole spacing. The self edge bending was wrong causing alignment problems. The punching & shaping programings are wrong for shelf hole alignment. The quality inspection is very poor by any standard.

Pretty good finished product
4 Star Review   By Joanna on Home Depot - Dec 28, 2011

I actually spray painted this oil-rubbed bronze, and am using it for light use as a bookcase in my living room. It took spray paint well, with no sanding. It nicely mimics the look of chic weathered industrial home shelving. It arrived with every shelf bent in a frightening way. I started painting anyway, with fingers crossed. It took forever to build. I wouldn't call it sturdy, the shelves flexed and warped as we built it. It comes with zillions of nuts and bolts, some of which were impossible to pop through the appropriate holes due to the bend of the shelves. Finally with the addition of the side and back beams, it became sturdy and straightened itself out. It looks good now, but quite the suspenseful building experience.

Standard quality for the price but difficult to assemble.
4 Star Review   By AuntieEm on Home Depot - Dec 6, 2011

The materials and workmanship are about what I would expect for the price, and the assembled the shelves work as advertised. One shelf was damaged in transit and had to be bent back to shape. Also, some of the fasteners were in places where it was difficult to get a wrench. After finally getting it assembled, I'm satisfied with its' performance. It holds what the ads say it will and my storage space is neat again.

This is not a heavy-duty shelving unit
3 Star Review   By Conroite on Home Depot - Jun 11, 2011

This unit is very wobbly and unstable until all bolts are tightened. I do not believe this unit could ever hold the 1200 pounds claimed in the description. It is nice that it is 18 inches deep though. Instructions were very easy but I was short 9 screws and bolts. Bought some more and I am happy with its final status.
