Ralph Lauren was born in The Bronx. From a young age, Lauren had an unusual passion for design and spent a portion of his time in school selling ties to fellow students. At age 28, Lauren opened his first necktie store and sold some personal design of ties under the “Polo” label. But what really put Lauren on the fashion map was his classic Polo short sleeve mesh shirt with the Polo logo in 1972. The collection has expanded since to children's clothing, shoes, accessories and home furnishings. Today, the Ralph Lauren brand for men and women can be found many stores around the world.
