Good value-easy installation
5 Star Review   Home Depot    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

With the mounting frame supplied in the installation kit, along with all needed hardware, this attic ladder was a breeze to install. The only negative was the "insulation" attached to the door cover. It was very thin and loose from the cover, but all else was fine. A very good value for a sturdy piece of equipment.

Better quality than the in-stock store models.
4 Star Review   By Dean on Home Depot - Feb 19, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I had installed this particular unit before and liked its sturdiness over the models that are in-stock at the stores. This unit has channel mounted adjustable legs that are much better that just sawing the length off. The framing is also wider and more stable. Its easy to install, better quality, and cheaper also than the others.

Not bad for the price
3 Star Review   By Rich on Home Depot - Feb 12, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

The ladder works fine. It was easy to install. However I feel it's a little on the cheap side in construction. The insulation wasn't even glued down so it was just falling off and interfeared with the closing of the door. The thing I like least is the wood base/door. It is the thinnest cheapest wood I have ever seen and I'm not sure how long it will hold up. My opinion it should have been at least 1/2" thick not 1/4". CHEAP.

Sturdy and practical
4 Star Review   By MaranaAZ on Home Depot - Feb 7, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This ladder was fairly easy to install. Once in, it felt very sturdy. The adjustable feet didn't include any matching nuts for the bolts, so I had to run out to buy 4 ($1.50), which was annoying. The plywood face had a 1" chip in it. Other than those minor annoyances, I am happy with the product. It operates smoothly, and looks great. It's sturdy enough that I (200 lbs) can carry heavy boxes up into the attic without worrying. There are enough handholds that even my three year old has no problems going up and down.

This arrived in 4 days, and I installed with help of grandson. Plainly written instructions made it fairly simple. Adjusting (cutting) the legs for proper floor contact was straightforward. It is a well made and sturdy product, feels very firm and safe.

It took two of us a day to install this because I needed to do some extra framing due to my home construction. In the end, it was functional and very steady. I'm a big guy and have a knee replacement as well. The 350 lb. weight limit is reassuring. Good product!

Good product
3 Star Review   By jack on Home Depot - Jan 23, 2013    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

The product was easy to install and meets our need. The prep instructions need upgrading. Since the ladder meets the floor at an angle the initial cuts needs to be at an angle not straight as per the instructions. I followed the instructons but found I had to make additional cuts (which is a pain) to get the feet attached properly. Otherwise we are satisfied.

4 Star Review   By Hammerhead on Home Depot - Dec 18, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This item is exactly as described. I am extremely happy with the performance of this ladder. It is constructed very well. If you think you will exceed the weight limits, spend the money for the better model. Installation can be tricky, but hey, I did it. It is a fairly light unit and was able to install it with the help of my wife. I recommend using two 1" x 4" cross supports to screw into the ceiling to hold the unit in place after raising it into the preformed opening. This will hold it flush to the ceiling while you secure it permanently. This ladder will make Christmas decorating a much easier task. Ho, Ho, Ho!

OK for the price, I'd recommend in the right situation
3 Star Review   By bh123 on Home Depot - Dec 12, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Overall it's got some flaws, but it's not bad for the price. Lightweight but I'm planning on using it infrequently and I'm not storing anything heavy or bulky in my attic. Go heavier duty if you plan on using frequently or store anything big/heavy. Instructions are ok. I found it very difficult to nail the frame. You are supposed to leave the ladder closed until it's nailed in because you can split the frame by opening it when it's not secure, but there just isn't any clearance to drive the nails with it closed. I was able to open it just enough without damaging it with help from two other people below while I was above. But I could see many people getting frustrated with this and damaging the frame by opening it all the way to nail. I also had an issue with getting the feet to sit flat on the floor when the ladder was down. I measured and trimmed the ladder just as instructed, but the feet are still slightly off the floor in the back. I contemplated drilling my own holes for the adjustable feet and changing the angle of the ladder to get the feet flat, but that was causing the hinges not to completly close. Ultimately, I left the feet a little off because it's much more important to have the hinges close all the way. They really need to make the foot angle adjustable on these for the ladder to work for different heights. The plywood that faces the room is not pretty. Some exposed bolts and the wood is a bit coarse. I plan on gluing on a thin veneer to it that will make it look nice.

Wish I would have installed it years ago!!!
5 Star Review   By Denny on Home Depot - Dec 11, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This is a nice sturdy, smooth operating ladder without the weight and creaks and cracks of a wood ladder. I am so happy to have this ladder installed, after 14 years of lifting myself off the top of my 6’ stepladder like a gymnist on the parallel bars. I wish I would have done this years ago! I’ve climbed my share of wood attic ladders in the past, and I feel safer on this aluminum ladder than I ever did on any of the wood ones, easier operating too with the gas cylinders vs springs. Treat yourself to this ladder!

It works, after some repairs.
2 Star Review   By twistsol on Home Depot - Nov 20, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

The ladder came with one piece of the frame split and the corners on the underside were not aligned with each other. This is the show side inside the house. The insulation was a piece of half inch styrofoam with a reflective surface. All three insulation pieces had curled and peeled away from the door and interfered with the door closing when they moved around. The ladder itself and the closing mechanism work quite well and once I rebuilt the frame, installation was a snap. The adjustable feet are much better than cutting off the end and hoping you get it right.

Louisville Ladder
4 Star Review   By Rick on Home Depot - Nov 13, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This is a very well made ladder. There was only a small problem with it and the delivery of it. It apparently was dropped so it was a little crooked with the installation. I was able to adjust the fit and it works very well. I would reccommend this ladder as it is of good qualiity and worth the price paid for it.

Good thing I was able to engineer the instillation w/o much help from the instructions. Never did find out where the shim I was to use later should have been used. Got to love it when you get extra parts for other projects. PS. Installed it all by myself.

This attic ladder certainly met the requirement for access and was adjustable to meet various ceiling heights. Easy to install. Directions were clear. Included all hardware required for installation. The ladder has a little more flex than expected when climbing it, but seems sufficiently sturdy. The gas cylinders prevent the door from slamming shut.

Great Attic Ladder
5 Star Review   By traderjack on Home Depot - Nov 6, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

We replaced two old wooden units that were 17 years old. These are far more sturdy than our old ones and have a 100 lb higher capacity. The measurements were exact and fit our openings like they were made for it. It does take two people to install easily. I had a rolling scaffold that I borrowed that made it easy. Removing the old actually took longer than installing the new stairs.

5 Star Review   By ChrisnMyr on Home Depot - Oct 2, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Purchased to replace a broken, spring operated, attic door. Once installed I found that it operates sooooo much better than its predecessor. No more fighting to hold the door down as you unfold the steps. Once down, it stays down. Very little effort is required to lift back into place. The mechanism that closes the door, closes it tight. Will never purchase another spring actuated door again!

4 Star Review   By DIYinCody on Home Depot - Sep 26, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Good installation instructions. Strong and stable product. Fits larger range of heights than many products. Can be installed with one person using adequate temporary chocks. Used screws and additional shims instead of nails and single shim provided to better control installation. Door panel is thin and can not only warp, but bends excessively at hinge end during opening and closing. Added reinforcing strips along each side at hinge end from hinge to first cross brace to adequately correct this weakness. Insulation needs to be glued after installation to prevent movement and warping.

Good quality attic ladder for the price
5 Star Review   By Scopeland on Home Depot - Sep 6, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I researched several ladders as I would be accessing my attic space often(twice/week) from a visible main hallway. So I was looking for durability, easy of use, and aesthetics, to a degree. This ladder met my needs well and I would recommend to another buyer. Shipped fast from HD online and came with all the parts. My recommendations: 1. If you weigh over 200lbs, invest in the 350lb max. I am 190 and am fine with the heaviest boxes, but I can see that it couldn't take much more. 2. While the instructions recommend the nails provided and warn against decking nails, I would invest in a good high shear strength screw(avail at Home Depot). I say this because once the nails are in, there's no adjusting, while with the screws, you always have a way to fix an error. Overall my door functions properly, but the shims could have used a little more fine tuning to center the door over the frame when closed. Nobody but me will know, but that is more than I prefer.

Upon completing installation, the ladder was very sturdy and rigid. Even my wife tried it out and she felt very sure footed.
5 Star Review   By Clark on Home Depot - Mar 20, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

The hardest part was rounding up two other helpers to hold it in-place while I was in the attic temporarily securing with the strapping. I am very pleased with all aspects of the design, ease of installation, and the finished product after installation. The only disappointment was the insulation. I hope that Louisville will either secure the insulation to the hatch or use a different product to insulate.

Very good quality !
5 Star Review   By edfolks on Home Depot - Feb 14, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Relatively easy one man install with a little planning. Needed extra shims to accomodate the out of square house framing, just something to consider. Overall a very good product for the home, far more stable than wood version.

Very Nice Attic Ladder
4 Star Review   By GDW1 on Home Depot - Feb 12, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Very nice product -- meets my needs. Good quality, lightweight aluminum folding ladder for easy attic access. Complete with understandable installation instructions and most installation material (needed shims and casing and I chose to use lag bolts instead of the nails that were supplied). Easily installed in a few hours. Overall a very good value.

Disappointed in the quality
2 Star Review   By kf519 on Home Depot - Feb 12, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

My fiance and his father installed this. They are extremely handy. Unfortunately the hinges bent and quit functioning the very first day. All they did was walk up and down a few times carrying some partial sheets of plywood. They are trying to fix it now but what a mess. I was disappointed in the quality.

Good replacement for wood ladder, should include better fasteners
4 Star Review   By Shopdweller on Home Depot - Jan 24, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This seems to be a good ladder and a very good replacement for the wood ladder that I replaced. To make this even better I threw away the low grade nails and used good quality screws to fasten it to the framing. As many folks have pointed out, the manufacturer should glue the insulation panels into place. I did that before I completed the installation using 3M 77 spray adhesive.

My 62 year old wife and i (68years old) had no trouble installing but get online for better instructions don't use the hanging straps instead use boards below the opening to hold ladder up for installation

Good for price
4 Star Review   By cpl1775 on Home Depot - Jan 12, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

We bought this to replace our old and untrustworthy wooden ladder system. It was nice to open the box and see that it was mostly all put together, just required adjustment of the leg lengths. The hardest part was getting it into place but was able to do so by myself by using ropes and ascenders from my rock climbing bag. It has been a huge improvement from the wooden ladder. My wife and I have used it several times since to store our Christmas decorations and I liked being able to carry the boxes up and down with confidence on the ladder.

A great attic ladder for the cost
4 Star Review   By Kelly on Home Depot - Jan 10, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This ladder is lightweight and pulls down very easily. Closing is a snap-literally you hear a snap- when it seats into the frame. We were worried about the cold and heat seeping into the room from this unit but have not felt anything because of the tight, snug fit when closed. It was easy to install-less and 2 hours. It feels a bit wobbly when going up and down the steps but aluminum does 'give' a bit. Overall, a good product for the purpose.

5 Star Review   By handypersons on Home Depot - Jan 3, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Had an attic ladder in a previous home but it was wood and was heavy so it was hard for me to pull open and shut. This aluminum ladder is really light weight and sturdy. Excellent product! We purchased as gift before Christmas. Great price, free shipping and fast delivery. I would order from Home Depot again.

This attic ladder is fantastic!!!
4 Star Review   By Diver on Home Depot - Jan 3, 2012    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

After doing some research and reading many reviews I chose the Louisville Ladder Elite. The installation was a breeze and quite simple with only two people. The ladder exceeded my expectations in regards to overall quality. I would recommend this to anyone searching for an easy access to their attic.

Not bad but not great
3 Star Review   By WyoChess on Home Depot - Dec 27, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I understand why HD is switching to a different mfr. of these ladders. The quaility of the Louisville is okay but feels flimsy. Installs easy. Purchased on sale with a big discount otherwise I would have waited for the better quality at the higher price which was on back order.

Installed this pull fown ladder two weeks ago. Pretty easy install for two. Need more shims than provided. The ladder adjusts quite easily to accommodate the actual distance between floor and ceiling. The unit is a significant upgrade over the wooden type ladders.

Watch out for the Swing Width!
4 Star Review   By joey on Home Depot - Nov 23, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

This is a great ladder for the price but the swing width is large. In my house, the ladder goes in a hallway with a wall near one end of the opening and a doorway near the other end. I measured the length of the ladder away from the wall and it was well under the 79" swing width of this ladder, so I installed it so the ladder comes down on the doorway side. The ladder still just barely touches the top of the door frame as it unfolds. It works but just barely. Most 8' ladders have a 70" swing width. Since this ladder is universal 8-10', it has a longer swing width of 79". It might not work for every situation. Check before you install, especially if you are replacing an older 8' ladder.

Ok, but not fire rated.
3 Star Review   By Qualityhouse on Home Depot - Nov 8, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Beware this product is not fire rated. I installed in a finished, attached garage. When the city inspector came, he said it is not to fire code. We were ok because the area above the ceiling and next to the house was rocked with fire rated rock but we had to mud and tape the joints to meet code. So it worked out but it was a close call.

This ladder is a very sturdy product. It is better built than the Werner ladder. Installation was straight forward and clear. I would recommend this attic ladder.

A bit flimsy is right.
2 Star Review   By Chrger1970 on Home Depot - Oct 25, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I have to go with what another review said. It could use some brackets to strengthen the arms. I closed the door and one of the arms ripped out without any real effort. If there was a steel plate and a bolt it be strong enough to last. It was easy to install, it just needs some work in the flimsiness dept.

A Great Ladder
5 Star Review   By Ayres on Home Depot - Oct 21, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

A very well made product. 10 times better than the wooden ones. Well written instructions make for an easy installation. Adjustable legs make for solid footing. Another big plus is it is rated for 350#. . I've had a wooden one before and this one is far more superior.

Good
4 Star Review   By John on Home Depot - Oct 18, 2011    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Overall, I consider the ladder a good buy. The one negative - it doesn't fully shut. One side droops by 1/4"-1/2" when the ladder is closed. I'm not sure if the plywood cover is warped or what, since the ladder frame itself is level & squared. Still happy with it, though.

A Bit Flimsy
3 Star Review   By Wadelo on Home Depot - Aug 31, 2010    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Installed it pretty easy by myself( I do most projects alone). The ladder itself is Flimsy( will be reinforcing soon) and the area where the hinge is connected to the frame is lose. Would have been better if they used bolts instead of rivets(again I will remove those and install bolts) Over all it is a good attic ladder, the marks to cut for different heights was great and it came with the nails which was nice. The directions are also very well done and easy to follow.Get rid of the rivets and this ladder will be the best out there!

Go for it
4 Star Review   By 4stanton on Home Depot - Jan 1, 2010    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

Bought this ladder after caring a step ladder up and down the stairs (for 5yrs) to change the filter in my HVAC system. Installed it with a little assistance from my 13 yr old son in about 2.5 hours. I have 8 foot ceilings and found the marks on the side of the ladder useful when cutting the latter to fit my installation. Make sure you have a good hack saw to cut the ladder as it is manufactured for different ceiling heights but is easy to adapt to your ceiling height. I would have rated it 5 stars if the frame was made out a thicker plywood. I don't plan on using this ladder more then once a month so it should be fine.

A Superior Product
4 Star Review   By ENL1 on Home Depot - Dec 27, 2009    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

I replaced a wooden Werner attic ladder with this one. The Louisville ladder is a much superior product and the gas cylinders much better than springs. The flimsy metal straps that the Werner springs were attached to broke.

attic ladder
3 Star Review   By motherfigure on Home Depot - Nov 16, 2009    ( See more reviews from Home Depot )

The Louisville ladder seems sturdy but narrower than anticipated. The plywood hatch was somewhat flimsey, and may not stand up to repeated use. I plan to reinforce it BEFORE it breaks or chips, and hope for the best.
