Description
Vitacost KriaXanthin Antarctic Krill Oil contains a 100%-natural extract of krill, harvested from cold Atlantic waters. Krill oil, derived from krill (shrimp-like crustaceans), is a good source of two of the most studied omega-3 essential fatty acids, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Omega-3 essential fatty acids are essential to the body and must be obtained through diet. Since the typical American diet is generally low in omega-3 essential fatty acids, taking a supplement such as Vitacost KriaXanthin Antarctic Krill Oil is a convenient way to obtain these important nutrients without increasing fish consumption. Krill oil is also rich in vitamins A and E and functions as a powerful antioxidant.*How does Vitacost KriaXanthin Antarctic Krill Oil support health?Provides the easily absorbed omega-3 essential fatty acids DHA and EPA, as well as antioxidants, for total-body health support.* Supportive but not conclusive research shows that consumption of EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. Helps reduce certain symptoms associated with premenstrual syndrome.*Promotes a healthy inflammatory response and contributes to a healthy blood lipid profile already within normal range.*Provides protection from free radicals.*Why choose Vitacost KriaXanthin Antarctic Krill Oil?100% natural.Cold-vacuum pressed for ultimate freshness and stability.

Too fishy
2 Star Review   By Coletto11 on Vitacost - Apr 26, 2013

Maybe I'm just not cut out to take krill oil supplements, but this results, for me, in fishy burps commencing within a half-hour of ingestion. That's not to say it's not a quality product; it's just not for me.

Quick absorption of Omega 3's
5 Star Review   By Doomsy on Vitacost - Apr 15, 2013

Dr Oz said Krill Oil was the most bioavailable form of Omega oil. Having taken Omega 3 via regular fish oil tablets, I have to agree with that statement. I have a some knuckles that get stiff when I don't take Omega 3. Within a couple of hours of taking this Krill oil, the stiffness is gone. I've also seen a dramatic improvement in my skin. I used to have "crocodile" skin in my elbows and calf area. After starting on Omega 3's (the regular kind) it disappeared after about 3 months use.

4 Star Review   By joy12 on Vitacost - Apr 15, 2013

Just started this new product, yet what I wanted todiscover immediately was whether or not I wouldtaste the fish oil within a few hours of taking it...Glad to say I did NOT have an adverse after-effect.When I saw it combined with the Astaxanthin, I hopedfor the best. So far I think I will be reordering this KriaXanthin.Great product for the money!! Thanks Vita Cost.

Amazing!!!
5 Star Review   By Gerenator on Vitacost - Apr 14, 2013

Vitacost Astaxanthin has worked better for me than any other brand of Astaxanthin, and it has also out performed ANY anti-inflammatory product I have taken for my arthritis. It is great for my skin, and has saved me from sunburn,on more than one occasion. I have never taken any pharmaceutical, or supplement that has delivered better. 5 VERY BIG stars!!!

Vitacost switched formulas on this
1 Star Review   By Munyonm on Vitacost - Apr 12, 2013

Vitacost switched formulas on this several months back from I believe the BioAstin? source to another unnamed source and since then the product does not work. I believe it either has no Astaxanthin in it or perhaps they are being sold a cheap synthetic source rather than a natural source.I know because Astaxanthin is the only thing that can relieve my sinus inflammation and the product completely stopped working when this switch was made a few months back.Even the Source Naturals 2mg Astaxanthin is able to relieve my sinus inflammation but the Vitacost brand at 10mg does nothing.I would also like to know why another review from someone reporting similar to I am here on this same issue was removed. Is Vitacost screening negative reviews?

Good product
5 Star Review   By SherriinVA on Vitacost - Apr 9, 2013

My doctor advised me to start taking Krill oil for my trigylcerides, as it is more potent than fish oil. The are much smaller pills than fish oil also, and they have no after taste or fishy burps. I also found this product to be less expensive at Vitacost than at other places I searched. I *LOVE* Vitacost for keeping things affordable. I haven't had my tris rechecked yet, but I am confident that I will see some improvement with this product. Thanks, Vitacost!! :)

Not Bioastin
1 Star Review   By GLev on Vitacost - Mar 14, 2013

Changed the formula, Vitacost brand was Bioastin before, now it's not. The few positives Bioastin provided on my skin quickly vanished with this new type. Any inquiries to Vitacost on the source of this type of astaxanthin was refused. Back to a Bioastin brand I go!

5 Star Review   By mdbchris on Vitacost - Feb 26, 2013

As long as I'm on this I do not burn in the sun. Living in FL and being very pale this is awesome for me. It means I can spend more than 20 minutes on the beach and not at 8am! lol But I've also noticed while taking it my mood is uplifted and my mood doesn't swing like it does when I'm not on it. So I will be sure to keep taking it.

I love this krill oil. I love the fact that it not only works but is so much cheaper in price than some other manufacturers. Doesn't have any after taste, and no fishy burping taste. Great source of Omegas that everyone needs. Great for non fish eating people.

I recommend this product to my clients
5 Star Review   By ColorfulLife on Vitacost - Feb 26, 2013

I have been taking this product for the past few months and I can tell you that it will definitely improve your cholesterol. I tell my clients all the time, that they can eat more fish (Salmon, Mackerel, Sardines and Tuna) rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acids or they can take a fish oil supplement. My Total Cholesterol is now 147 and my HDL is 87! As always, ask your PCP before adding any supplement to your diet.

A great product
5 Star Review   By Bobe on Vitacost - Feb 26, 2013

Much easier to take these smaller gel caps than the huge fish oil gel caps. Apparently good results because my HDL an LDL are now at their proper levels.

THEY STILL MISLABEL THIS PRODUCT !
1 Star Review   By AstAa on Vitacost - Feb 26, 2013

Thinking it was the previous BIOASTIN Astaxanthin I ordered 6 bottles. They changed it to some CHEAP formulation, refuse to tell us WHERE they get the "NEW" Astaxanthin, AND on top of that use these cheap capsules that LEAK, to package a liquid (!).THE bottle on the photo still reads "SOFTGELS" , the one I got reads "LIQUID CAPS". Returned the 5 since I opened one, and had to pay for shipping back to Vitacost. Lets see if I will ever be credited. Now I have to find some REAL Astaxanthin.THIS IS WHY THIS INDUSTRY IS GOING TO RUIN ITSELF !FDA does not sound so bad about now, at least with Big Pharma you know, when they say so many milligrams of a substance, you know you are getting that substance !

better than fish oil
5 Star Review   By healthywhey on Vitacost - Sep 24, 2012

Krill oil does not go rancid as fast as fish oil, and although it has slightly less of the DHEA and (oh I cannot remember the name of the other item), anyway, the molecular chain is smaller-- the body can more easily digest and absorb the substances.

I found the one!
5 Star Review   By JenMarks on Vitacost - Jul 7, 2012

I've always had problems with terrible menstrual cramping bloating etc. until i started taking Omega supplements last year. I started with regular Vitacost Omega Fish Oil and noticed that within 2 months my cramping had decreased significantly. Only drawbacks were the horrible fish burps. I ran out of the "regular fish oils" the beginning of this year and noticed my cramping came back with a vengeance. I researched and decided to give Krill Oil a try. I went with vitacost because of the cost and my previous experience with their superior brand. I am so glad i did! I took only 3 weeks for this to "get into my system" and "work". there are no fishy burps! i love this stuff! and Vitacost sometimes has the BOGO and spend $25 and get free shipping offers, that's when I try to stock up.

Best Combo / Best Price
5 Star Review   By Borimus on Vitacost - Jun 25, 2012

I'm close to 70 yrs old. I purchased this product for the tremendous benefits of this particular combination and price. An unexpected benefit was the diminishing in the grayish appearance of my eyes (which is a symptom of other serious health issures). I did not realize the diminishing was the result of this product until AFTER I stopped taking it! I have no doubt that the benefits of both Omegas and Astaxanthin are taking place in areas I cannot see, AND in one product, rather than two! Thank you for such a great combination in one product, at an affordable price!

great product no reflux & small tablets
5 Star Review   By tj99 on Vitacost - Apr 24, 2012

I do a lot of running and have tried taking many different fish oils, to keep my joints flexible. Unfortunately all of them have repeated on me with a bad fishy reflux afterwards. Even the non-reflux ones did. After trying these for over 6 weeks I am very happy with them. I take 2 with my breakfast and get no fishy reflux afterwards. If I take them on their own I get a slight affect, but 200% less than any fish oil. The tablets are also much smaller than most fish oils.I can't comment on the effects as I have not really got any joint issues, rather I am taking them as a preventative.I love this product and will be ordering many more :-)

Inferior Krill Oil

Fish burps are nasty! The quality seems cheap...hence the cost probably. NKO is the best....no burps and actually lists phospholipid mg's.

Krill Oil With Astaxanthin
4 Star Review   By CareBear13 on Vitacost - Sep 17, 2011

Dr. Mercola highly recommends krill oil and astaxanthin for many health benefits. I must admit I prefer Dr. Mercola's brand for quality but found this to be a great value. Very effective for joints if taken consistently. Easy to swallow but a little fishy. Will purchase again because it is very affordable.

5 Star Review   By dixichic on Vitacost - Aug 10, 2011

I've been taking Vytorin for several years and have kept my total cholesterol and trig's right on the edge to a little above the edge of normal range. When I added Fish Oil, then Krill Oil which is cleaner w/less mercury and other toxins, my labs are beautiful! Drastically improved HDL (happy day lipids) and LDL (low down lipids). That's how I remember the good from the bad. Not only CV but helps neuro (brain) health also. Low fat was a farce put on this country. Good healthy fats we NEED! That's my experience with this product.

Good value
4 Star Review   By 92103 on Vitacost - Jun 28, 2011

I have been using Krill for a few years now and this one is the best price going. I had tried NSI krill before but the fishy smell, taste, and reflux was just awful. Apparently they've improved their product. Although there is still a slight fishyness to it, I haven't experienced the same strong fishy aftertaste with this product. Olympian Labs Krill is still my favorite but double the price.

Don't buy Cheap Products
1 Star Review   By ForceFieldOfLove on Vitacost - Jun 27, 2011

When buying krill oil and CoQ10, it's important not to buy cheap products, and unfortunately, I did. The result of using this item was severe - though not immediate. After about a week, I began to itch all over my body, and turned pinkish. I could not sit still.Where ever skin touched skin, I had a rash - as if I had become allergic to myself! This was inside my elbow areas, under bust and between buttocks. I am not allergic to seafood either.Family Doctor told me to stop all these products - CoQ10 & Krill immediately - which I had done.I can say without a doubt, my system is weakened now - that those areas that got a rash and swell up, now are extremely sensitive, and the slightest clothing that touches it, or if it's hot, it begins to itch and gets red. Now forever - due to saving a few bucks, I have to suffer with this new affliction, when I was trying to be proactive and maintain my health!Vitacost does not give great customer service - never answers the return items extension, nor answers emails! They also require an RAS (Return Auth Slip), but only for their products! If it's under $10, they say to throw it away. Consequently, I had to wait for an RAS, Ship the items that were not theirs separately (which isn't cheap). It took them over 7 days to credit my account for the items that were returned on RAS, and then to make this worse, I had to call and complain I hadn't gotten credit for the other items I shipped separately after they received it 10 days prior - it felt like I was begging for my money back. I made sure to get a tracking when I send things back.Compared to Swanson, Vitacost really has bad service, bad products, and don't credit you back easily. Swanson immediately returned my money - and provide a return label to ship back free (though I opted not to use, as that would not allow me to track) they refunded the $10 shipping I spent to return it! Now that is service!

Good Omega 3 Supplement
4 Star Review   By numi on Vitacost - Apr 14, 2011

Good krill oil supplement - my only issue with it (preventing this from being 5 stars across the board) is that even when you take it with food (for me any ways) I am having fishy burps afterward. Aside from being unpleasant, this seems to me to be a good way to get necessary Omega 3's and as a bonus, includes Astaxanthin.

Off odor
3 Star Review   By Rinkey on Vitacost - Aug 11, 2010

Excellent price, but a drawback. Gels smell fishy, taste fishy and my wife smells it on my breath. Don't know if this is common or I just got a bad batch. Love the price but can't take chance on another bottle.

I was pleased with the small size of the pills (compared to fish oil tablets), although the smell is less than desirable. Overall, a good value.

Mmmm.... fishy!
3 Star Review   By TRB95 on Vitacost - Jun 30, 2010

I haven't been taking this very long, so it's hard to comment on it's effectiveness, but I can comment on how awful the product smells when you open the bottle to take it. It has a nasty, extremely fishy smell. Luckily I haven't had any fishy burps or anything like that from it, but the smell is pretty gross.

Go with fish oil
3 Star Review   By jdel0 on Vitacost - May 27, 2010

I read that krill oil is better than fish oil because of the lower risk of mercury. I do like the NSI products, and when comparing the lables of NSI krill and fish oils, I was surprised how much more mg's of DHA and EPA the NSI fish oil has (20-30 compared to 300-400!). This is what I'll be going with next time I order.

Allergy response
2 Star Review   By eldrapub on Vitacost - Apr 3, 2010

When first starting to use the Krill Oil, I had high anticipations. My use was cut short by an allergy reaction of itching. Others may have a good response, whereupon I would recommend a fair trial by anyone who considers using the product.

4 Star Review   By demgirl on Vitacost - Feb 19, 2010

I think it helped to bring down my tryglicerides and cholesterol, but I am also taking flush free niacin 500 mg. I will know more after my next blood test in a few months. I am allergic to other fish oils but not to this Krill Oil since it is made from a shell fish.Vita Cost has good prices and good quality vitamins, but they now ship to me from Las Vegas and it takes much longer than from their N.C. warehouse. They refuse to change their policy for my zip code.

4 Star Review   By kiahpenny on Vitacost - Feb 1, 2010

The quality of the krill pills are very good. Would buy them again, but they do have a fishy taste, and I do burp the fishy taste up after I take one. If they could do something about that, they would be perfect!

Deceptive Labeling! Quantity only 1/2 indicated i.
1 Star Review   By PhDbiochemist on Vitacost - Jan 1, 2010

From the labeling you will assume that you are getting 60 softgels of 1000 mg each of krill oil. WRONG!!! These softgels are only 500 mg each. Nowhere on the label does it tell you that the softgels are actually 500 mg! The buyer will have to infer this. Warning!!! Other companies are engaging in this deception with krill oil as well. This krill oil is not labelled as NKO (Neptune Krill Oil) and doesn't deliver the quantity that its label indicates. Why purchase this product?

Best Source of Omega 3 Fatty Acids
5 Star Review   By KenG on Vitacost - Sep 26, 2009

Our entire family is taking and experiencing the benefits of krill oil. Our oldest grandson, 14, is autistic, and we have noticed an improvement in his overall well-being.For those concerned about the depletion of krill, please read the comment below:Krill are a plentiful ocean resource. Less than 1% of the ocean?s 600 million tons of krill is harvested annually. This ensures an abundant, sustainable krill population. This is a plus because many people are shying away from fish oil supplements due to the concerns over depleted fish populations across the globe. J.D. Bell

krill may be endangered
5 Star Review   By lil1 on Vitacost - Sep 16, 2009

This is a fine product, and supposedly krill is a superior fish for oil--plus it includes astaxanthin, another great product; however, it is my understanding that krill has been overfished, and may be in danger. You may want to do a little research on Krill before you purchase this product.

1000 vs 500 -- be careful
4 Star Review   By joeml on Vitacost - Aug 13, 2009

Some of the krills listed on Vitacost are advertised as 1000, including this one by NSI. Others are advertised as "500." If one reads about the "portion size" in the fine print, you will see that these are all 500 mg capsules. So these 1000 are not the incredible value that they might seem at first glance. Still fairly good.It would be nice if apples could be compared to apples.

Very low level of Omega-3's
1 Star Review   By JohnV on Vitacost - Aug 13, 2009

I compared the info on these capsules to the normal, very low cost fish oil capsules I buy at the drugstore. Per capsule, there is only 1/7th the amount of EPA, and less than 1/10th the amount of DHA that fish oil provides. Unless you are interested in the tiny amount of Omega 6 in the Krill oil (20 mg), there doesn't seem to be much point in paying 5 times more for these than what fish oil capsules cost.

NSI KriaXanthin Antarctic Krill Oil
5 Star Review   By MAGESSE on Vitacost - Aug 13, 2009

This is the best price for Krill that I have ever found. I cannot use fish oil supplements because they just go through my system undigested, so I tried Krill, but it costs a fortune compared to the fish oil. Since I started using the Krill, my cholesterol is steady at 166 (down from 195) with my HDL (the good kind) and triglycerides are far above normal range. (This is a good thing). Since I believe chocolate and ice cream are one of the basic food groups, it's not my diet that gets the credit -- a lot of the credit goes to the krill.
