Not Carcinogenic
5 Star Review   By Cholla on Vitacost - Jun 8, 2012

www.ewg.org... Check out this site. The brand I was using Revlon ColorSilk is highly carcinogenic. (score of 9) This brand is the safest (score of 1. ) Others rated a 1 do not have the detailed instructions or the color choices of Light Mountain. Because my hair is chemically treated I need to wait several weeks before using Light Mountain so I decided to start now with the natural to prepare my hair. Health first!!!!

Love this product!
5 Star Review   By Krisy on Vitacost - Nov 13, 2011

I was a little scared that this product would not work but it covered all my gray and lasted for several months, it was a two step process but very much worth the end result. I already ordered another box. Very happy with my results and got lots of compliments on the color and posted my results on my Facebook page I was so pleased.

Great Product
5 Star Review   By CrazyMary on Vitacost - Jun 4, 2011

I have been using the Henna coloring for many years now. I was glad when they came out with the Color the Gray formula as it does cover the gray better than the original coloring. I particularly like the way the henna just slowly fades in color - no haunting streak going down the center of your scalp as in other hair color products. It is very healthy for your hair as well. I will continue to use this product until I can't color my hair any more!

The only downside to this product is the 2 step process, for covering gray. A bit time consuming!

Fist time switch from traditional-Very satisfied!
5 Star Review   By SkinnyGal on Vitacost - Sep 19, 2010

I have used Feria for about a year, and coloring my hair at the hairdresser for at least 10 years, so there is not much on my head except gray / white and super processed hair.I am shifting to a more green set of products after doing a lot of research on how much toxic load is created by using typical personal products, so I went to try this with some fear. I work in a place where green hair wouldn't fly, so I had a lot of trepidation.I can't recommend this highly enough.Firstly, the smell is not that bad. It smells grassy and natural, kind of like hay. I used a cheap conditioner after step 2 and it came right out - simple. When I put it on the stinging and chemical odor typical of all of the other coloring experience over the last 10 years was completely missing. I felt like I was playing with mud - very safe and natural. The product requires that you mix up 2 bowls of paste and let them "cure" for an hour or more - these bowls are called step one and step two, and all you do is add several ounces of hot water to create the paste.Step one takes about 15 minutes on your hair (or less). Then you rinse out and apply step two for an hour or more. Totally worth the trade off for something that is not carcinogenic.I found it easiest to put it on the grassy smelling paste with an inexpensive paint brush, working from the roots out about 2 inches wide, working my way through the hair with a comb (like I did with Feria).I was concerned when my hair turned bright orange after step one - this is temporary and creates a base for step two. The gray coverage is extremely effective. If you don't want a lot of red - I didn't - you simply don't apply heat to step two (what could be simpler). So to summarize, you mix it up, wait an hour, put on step 1 for around 15 minutes; rinse; put on step 2, wait an hour, and rinse. Done!My hair is a true brown and feels very shiny and soft.I used to have to color every 2 -3 weeks because my gray at the temples would show, and I hated putting all of those chemicals on my scalp. So glad to find an alternative that works.Main thing - just ignore the grittiness of the paste, and rinse out with conditioner.Great, healthy product.(The other hennas out there do not have a "step one" - the base to cover gray - they may work but this is a very safe bet. This company has put together safe botanicals to create the step one that serves as a base of color to cover the gray with the traditional henna of step 2.)

best natural option I know
4 Star Review   By littletree on Vitacost - Aug 13, 2009

This is so good for the hair - it makes it full and soft. As my hair grays more, the color seems not to hold as well. But I want to stay with the natural option, rather than use toxic color. It's quite easy to use and cost effective. You have to like a red tint in your hair.

Great product!
4 Star Review   By Peach on Vitacost - Aug 13, 2009

I am thrilled with the fact that I can cover my grey without the harsh chemicals and toxic ingredients used in traditional haircoloring. Using this product requires a bit of determination as the preparation and 2 step process are a bit more involved, but not unreasonable. It changes the look and feel of my hair so dramatically that styling is very different for a week or so after coloring. I add lemon juice and ginger to enhance the color, but also to cover the natural henna smell that lingers for a few days, which I'm not fond of. When I started using a natural shampoo, I noticed that it strips the color away more quickly - a trade-off for quality ingredients. But, I'm satisfied with Lotus Brand Inc.!
