Omron HJ-720ITC
3 Star Review  productwiki.com - Dec 18, 2009

The Omron HJ-720ITC is a fully-featured, pocket pedometer featuring a built-in USB cable for easily uploading user graphs and stats to a personal computer. Featured is Omron’s Health Management Software, a premium suite that allows users to track days, weeks, months, and even years of exercise. In particular, it measures standard walking steps, cardiovascular exercise steps, calories burned, and distance traveled. Also included is a Dual-Axis functionality wherein the device can be placed either horizontally or vertically at the hip, in a pocket, or clipped to a bag. According to expert reviewers, the Omron HJ-720ITC is completely silent and highly accurate. Unfortunately it doesn’t come with an on/off switch or reset button; it automatically resets at midnight. Plus the pedometer is slightly larger than average. Features Pocket Pedometer Omron’s Health Management System Track Exercise By Day/Week/Month/Year Measure Walking/Exercise Steps Measure Calories Burned Measure Distance Travelled Dual-Axis Functionality Completely Silent Operation Stores ... PROS: (1) ability to upload information for data tracking (2) health management software comes with it for free (3) can be placed in pocket or purse - doesnt have to sit clipped to the hip (4) replaceable battery ... CONS: (1) calories burned are not as accurate as a heart rate monitor

Danimals First Impressions of the HJ-720ITC
5 Star Review   By member Danimal58 - Jul 11, 2009

Strengths: The software! I had used the HJ-112 for a couple of years now, the memory function was great, but I had nothing to log my activities or chart progress. Now I do...

Weakness: Software doesn't allow for manual inputs if you had used a different meter...

It's functional and not overly difficult to setup for use. The hardest part was the software and figuring out what exactly my daily goals were going to be, trying to keep them reasonable and worthy. As for now I'm logging my daily activity and will comment more at a latter date. I would recommend this to anyone who has an interest in their daily walking or jogging statistics such as distance, number of non-aerobic and aerobic steps, calories burned, and fat burned.

A great buy! - Very accurate!
5 Star Review   By member roisinoc1 - Oct 29, 2008

Strengths: Will tolerate tilt - much more than other pedometers. Perfectly accurate. Safety strap is great, as pedometer clip will come off your pants from time to time.

Weakness: Only weakness is it doesn't count steps if you are just stepping around for a few seconds here or there - e.g while cooking, moving from counter to cooker. Must be walking at least 4 sec before counts.

Great pedometer - very accurate, even when it is tilted on my waist. Used other pedometers that missed steps if it was tilted. Also, this pedometer can sit anywhere on your waist - even at side - doesn't need to be right in middle by belt buckle like other pedometers. I had gone through 7 cheap pedometers in the past 2 months - all either stopped working, overcounted or undercounted. This more expensive pedometer was worth the extra money. I am wearing the pedometer constantly, to track daily steps. One downside is that it doesn't count steps unless you are walking for more than 4 seconds, so all my moving around kitchen, etc. is not counted. Also, the pedometer is a little bigger than most, and sticks out on my waist more, but at least I can move it to the side of my waist & not need to keep it right in the middle of my belly! Software is very nice - easy to use, and tracks steps by month, week, day, and within each day you can see a chart of steps by hour - very interesting. This pedometer is definitely worth the extra money - better than wasting money on constantly replacing cheaper ones.

Pedometers have come a long way!
4 Star Review   By member d_esmond - Aug 31, 2008

Strengths: Small, accurate, flexible positioning, computer connection

Weakness: Tough to access the (non-rechargable) battery, must be calibrated, no backlight,

As any computer geek, the first thing that appealed to me about this model (over the otherwise identical HJ-112 model which is $10 cheaper) is that it's got a miniUSB connector to hook it up to a computer. I've used that capability only once (typical for me) but I love knowing it's there in case I want to get really nerdy about tracking my steps. This model also has the ability to transmit its data to the Microsoft HealthVault site--so people who use that service will appreciate that. The pedometer seems accurate to me, although I have not verified it. I do plan to do that using a GPS unit here in the next couple weeks. I believe if it is not accurate then a simple adjustment to the stride length value is needed. I like how you can just throw it in a pocket or a briefcase. The pedometers of yore had to be perfectly vertical and clipped to your belt to work. Like the other reviewers I appreciate the fact that it resets itself at midnight--a nice touch. It's got a belt clip (it fell out of that once for me though) and a little lanyard you can clip to your pocket to secure it. I walk some at night and a backlight would have been handy to have but that would reduce battery life and add cost. I also wish that it used a rechargable battery (that could be recharged via the USB cable) but I understand that this model is based off the 112 model which has no USB connector. To access the CR2032 battery requires a tiny screwdriver--one is included but it's easy to lose--I almost threw it out accidentally. Fortunately I think the battery lasts a long time. For $30 this is a great fitness tool. The fact that you can track your progress on your PC or the web is just gravy.

Don't waste your money
1 Star Review   By member chrislegs - Jul 2, 2008

Strengths: none that I can tell, except that it tells the correct time

Weakness: It is completely inaccurate.

I bought this pedometer while training for a marathon and I wear it on my shorts band. It works well for the first mile or so but then after that it stops reading the distance accurately. It read 0.5 miles for every mile I ran. To top it off, because I have had it longer than 30 days, I can't return it. Seriously don't waste your money on this.

Omron Pedometer
4 Star Review   By member jvogel - Jun 16, 2008

Strengths: Easy to use, super quiet. Monitors aerobic activity.

Weakness: A little larger than other pedometers.

This seems to be a very well made and full function pedometer. It is so quiet I forget that I am wearing it. I keep it attached to my belt and it appears to be very accurate. I have not installed the software yet since the pedometer lets me view the last 7 days of activity right on the display. Everything resets to zero at midnight so it is very easy to use.

I just got my pedometer and set it up. The set up is very simple and the directions are clear. I then installed the software, plugged in the unit and off we went. This has really helped me get more active and keep track of how far I am walking everyday.

Great Little Pedometer
5 Star Review   By member jeffmilton - Mar 11, 2008

Strengths: Tiny size, accurate, easy to set up

Weakness: Small buttons are not the easiest to manipulate

No complaints about this pedometer. You can drop it in your front pocket or shirt pocket and never notice it is there. It's tiny size was definitely important in my decision to buy. Set up was easy, and the unit actually is designed nicely. I love that it resets automatically at midnight. I haven't used the accompanying software, but am hopeful that I am please with it as much as I am pleased with the pedometer itself.
