If you want the best picture and sound quality, an HDTV is the way to go. Here are some things to be aware of when replacing your analog TV with a new HDTV:
1) It’s Not as Expensive as You Think
Prices on LCD and Plasma TVs have dropped dramatically – even though they look luxurious, they’re no longer strictly a luxury item. For instance, you can now get a 23-inch LCD TV for less than $300!

2) It’s the Simplest Option
Buying a new HDTV is by far the easiest way to go – all you have to do is swap out your old TV for a new one, and you’re done.
3) Find the Right Kind of HDTV
There are three different types of HDTVs – DLP, LCD, and Plasma. Depending on your function and space requirements, one type might be better for you than the others. Stop by our HDTV Buying Guide to learn more.

4) Look for an ATSC Tuner
The digital broadcast format is called ATSC – you want to be sure your new HDTV has a tuner that can accept the new ATSC signals. Most new HDTVs have them – but just to be sure, check out our list of HDTVs with built-in digital tuners.
5) Get the Right Antenna
If you can currently receive UHF channels (channels over 13), you should be able to receive DTV signals from the start with your new HDTV. If you live more than 10 miles from the broadcast source, though, you’ll likely need an amplified indoor or outdoor antenna (if you don’t have one already) and an upgraded antenna cable. Unlike analog broadcasts, with digital channels you either get a perfect signal or nothing at all. So if the digital channels aren’t showing up, you probably need a new antenna.
Check out AntennaWeb.org for more info on adjusting your antenna.
