Compact and Rugged
3 Star Review   By member drchin - Nov 9, 2006

Strengths: No nonsense pro-grade radio, fully portable, full featured and capable hand held CB w/decent weather band receiver. Easy and intuitive controls

Weakness: Stnd antenna will not kick worth any distance, and no one wanted to reply until an external magnetic mounted base loaded whip antenna was attached (with an adapter) to provide transmit power

The best thing I found was the ease of maintaining CB communications in any vehicle I used for significant road travel. Simply plug in the AC power cord into a Power Accessory port in your vehicle and connect and position an external magnetic mounted base loaded antenna to the roof and off you go. (Radio Shack had a decent one, but might recommend finding a K40 if you can). Best for monitoring, however rather weak for CB transmission, even with external antenna. Noise level well controlled with squelch and dynamic audio level control. For more private conversation between known vehicles, I would still prefer FRS GMRS Radios, but they won't give you the wisdom of the road warriors ahead and behind you.
