Sony S1
3 Star Review  productwiki.com - Oct 25, 2011

The Sony S1 is a Android operated tablet. The S1 is designed to fold in half, resembling a folded magazine. Its rounded edge profile and 9.4 inch (1280 x 768) display allows handling to become easier and viewing angles improve when the tablet is placed on a table. The Sony S1 is lightweight and has a textured finish for an easy grip. It is available in 32 and 64GB models and has a WiFi only model or a WiFi and 3G. The tablet has 9-10 hours of battery time to enjoy TruBlack and Bravia display technologies. The S1 includes a dock and a wireless Bluetooth keyboard, which clips to the bottom of the device when not in use. The Sony S1 is also Playstation Certified, making the tablet just as much a gaming console as a PC and entertainment system. Features Innovative Folding Design Android Operated Platform 9.4 Inch Display ... PROS: (1) The "folded" design does redistribute the weight in a way that makes it feel more comfortable to hold. (2) TruBlack does actually give very good black levels and contrast on the display. ... CONS: (1) SD card slot can only be used for media exchange, and not for direct access to media (cant play video files from SD card). (2) The screen scratches more easily than its Gorilla Glass laden competitors.

5 Star Review   By Providence on Sony - Official Store - Sep 20, 2012

This was the 3rd tablet that I have purchased and this one is by far the BEST: I mean this is a SONY so you know its going to be a great product. Everything about it is awesome, from start up to end: Apps are GREAT!! I carry it everywhere: Sleek, portable, with great style: Plenty of storage for music and other items. I would recommend this product to everyone. I plan to purchase all future electronic products from SONY.

Pleasantly Surprised
4 Star Review   By Nash on Sony - Official Store - Jul 11, 2012

I've had the 16GB model since late November, and overall I've been quite pleased with it. I don't own any Apple products, and I'm not interested at the moment. The Tablet S has been very stable, often serving as my replacement laptop when I'm on the road. Aside from scanning and editing photos (the Adobe PS Touch app is OK), it's done nearly everything that I've asked of it. I keep it powered on for days at a time. I handle most of my e-mail with it, as well as buy items online, take care of online banking and browse Internet forums. What would I change? I bought the Sony keyboard, and there are some issues with keypad bounce in which a character often will repeat itself 10 times or more. The keyboard otherwise is a welcome addition when the on-screen keyboard isn't sufficient. The keyboard has no instructions, and I still don't know what the diamond key does. Many have mentioned the questionable addition of an SD card slot that doesn't integrate with the OS to allow you to install programs and store data. It strictly is for external storage, and it always make me wonder why Sony would do this and why they haven't attempted to correct it. The built-in speakers are weak and for the most part inadequate. Hooking them up to either headphones or external speakers is the way to go. The wi-fi connection sometimes doesn't reconnect when coming out of standby mode. At work, it always reconnects within seconds. At home, it almost never does to my FiOS router. I bought some stick on feet to prop it up. Laying flat on a table is a poor viewing angle, while the cradle's two positions are too upright. But these are all minor complaints. It does all that I ask. I've installed a bunch of apps, and it's yet to lock up, although some programs will crash now and then. If I were to do it over again, I would pay for the 32GB model, especially because of Sony's implementation of external memory, which I hope they soon correct.

4 Star Review   By BigJim40 on Sony - Official Store - Jun 14, 2012

I've checked out the Sony S tablet and I love it. The exterior design, feel and look of the tablet is pretty amazing. I would love to have this tablet, but there's only one major problem. Sony made the mistake of putting Android on it. If Sony put the Window 8 OS on this tablet, I would line up to buy it! Sony, please put Window 8 on this tablet or the next version of this tablet next year!!!!

Expensive Universal Remote
2 Star Review   By CaptainAmerica334 on Sony - Official Store - Jun 2, 2012

This tablet falls short of my expectations. I have many Sony products and have always been very happy with the quality of product that they produced, but this not up to the Sony standard! With a company that has some great sound, camera, and video products you would think that they could put out a product that would be at least equal to a standard phone’s video and camera. Sorry Sony, you missed this one. I didn’t buy my tablet for the camera and video, but I do like, listening to music, watching videos and streaming Netflix, but you better have an alternative speaker system or headphones because these speakers are poor quality!!! I have tried to adjust the speakers, and I have downloaded an equalizer app, but my phone beats this tablet in this category as well. Okay I have my PSP and PS3 so I thought “wow” a tablet that has the “PlayStation” compatibility. The PS1 games are very limited in number and are low quality games. The controllers will work after you buy a 15 dollar adaptor, but I haven’t found any in the Google market that are compatible with the Sony controller and I’m not into anything that Sony is offering through the PlayStation store. I’ll stick with my PS3 if I want to game. I have updated my tablet with the new Ice Cream Sandwich operating system and ever since I have done this my tablet continually is going into a “safe mode” and must be reset by hitting the reset button. I talked with a tech and he told me that this was because I was leaving it in the charging cradle to long and it was putting itself into safe mode to protect itself from over charging "really"... I have made sure not to over charge and it is still having the same issue.Okay, the last thing that I can think of is Sony’s proprietary connector. There is no other way to charge it so you’ll need to carry this bulky charging cable with you. There are no car chargers and you can’t charge through the USB. Sony I have been a loyal customer for many years, and if this product is any indication of your future, I am really looking and staying clear on another investment with the “Sony” name. On the good side, I have an awesome $400 universal remote controller.

Sony Tablet S
3 Star Review   By Desert on Sony - Official Store - May 10, 2012

I like to read. So I went from a BB Playbook to the Sony Tablet. Sony's reader software isn't available for the Blackberry OS. The bigger screen is nice. But that's where it ends. BB Os is simply better and more intuitive. Though both are very simular. Sony Tablet speakers sound cheap. Watching movies on the Playbook gives a better experience than the Sony. The Sonys shell has a cheap plastic feel. Lean it against something and it will slide. A nonslip case would be better. First thing I ended up buying was the Sony cradle. The USB and SD card slot are great. Now if they could only be used in realtime. Right now you have copy files to the tablet before you can use them. Overall if I had the Sony first I would like it better. But the little thinks make me miss the Playbook.

5 Star Review   By AppTrix on Sony - Official Store - May 4, 2012

the 16GB tablet only really has 8GB available... and the Nvidia Tegra 2 is about to be replaced. Avoid this tablet unless you're willing to replace it with another 500$ tablet soon. Nvidia's Tegra 3 released officially November 9th The Tegra 3 is a Quad Core processor with a 5th core companion the 5th core is bound to 500Mhz only and is made of super low power silicon which is what the tablet will use when not running graphics intensive apps Steer clear of this obsolete tablet .

Good product
4 Star Review   By bzanimation on Sony - Official Store - May 3, 2012

Looking at most other reviews here, I really cant add too much new other than this really is an amazing tablet. You get the best of the android market as well as sony's own apps like their music and video services, which work pretty well. Great camera for video recording and picture taking, though the front camera seems a little week. Most websites like amazon and facebook work perfect but I had a couple issues of web pages just quiting and closing on me, weather thats the tablets or my own falut for pushing a system a little much... I love playing music and watching video clips and you tube videos on this tablet as well as playing classic Playstation games on it, but that brings up 2minor issues. 1-the PS store is a little week on selections, but it as only been around just a few weeks as of this time, but i was picturing it a little more like how it is on the psp even, with acess to tv shows and movie. Hopefully in a future update. And lastly, I got the 16gig tablet but alot of the sofeware takes upnearly half of itso, its really only about 9-10gigs so... :/ Bottom line, it is really a great device in a field of impressive tablets. Plus great battery life. Its been my replacement laptop and works in someways even better, I even wrote this review using the sony tablet s while listening to Pandora radio! Worth picking up I say, but better throw in an few gig SD card.

Love It!
5 Star Review   By iandrgn on Sony - Official Store - Mar 30, 2012

I like this tablet or I am attempting to convince myself that I wasn't wrong about this product. Lets just get the cons out of the way. I dislike that Sony only went with a 32gb SDHC and not a SDXC card which can go up to 128gb. That would have made up for not having a full usb port and not allowing us to take full advantage of sd card slot. Now on to the Pros: The design is stellar. I just love the way this feels in my hands. When reading a digital magazine, my hands don't get tired. I do love the UI on this tablet too. Glad Sony stepped away and didn't just go with the stock Android Honeycomb(boring) UI. This UI is fresh, different and makes it look very unique. Not sure if I am going to keep this though. The fact that I can't go higher than 32gb and can't watch movies off of the memory card without having to port it over, is a real bumber for me. Fix this and you can easily get another star.

3 Star Review   By harry66 on Sony - Official Store - Mar 23, 2012

When I ordered this tablet, I was not sure that I would love it but I did. Had to get use to the ergonomic design since most tablets are square. It performs really well and has great picture quality. It is innovative with nice features like the universal remote. It is light weight compared to some others as the screen is not typical glass. I'm getting the quality that I expected from Sony and expect the longevity as well.

sony tablet
5 Star Review   By spore on Sony - Official Store - Mar 17, 2012

I've been using the tablet for over 3 weeks now and am very happy with the Sony S. The more I use it, the more I am pleased with my purchase. As has been said, the feel, weight and hold of the tablet is great. The angle when placed on a table is a simple but smart design. I like the overall size as it is slighty smaller than the 10" models, but bigger than the 7". Subtle, but does make a difference. Speed and wireless connectivity has been great. No complaints at all. It connects and zips right along. The screen is fantastic, deep rich colors and blacks, very very nice. I'm pleased with the software and the media remote and DLNA interchange, very cool, and one of the reasons I bought this to begin with, although it has not been the main reason now that I am using it. I plan to use the Music and Video unlimited when released. I have not used the crackle software, so have no opinion, as I travel internationally and this is blocked #along with most U.S. based services, Netflix, etc.#. I really like the Sony E-reader on the tablet. I have a regular Sony e-reader, so it picked up my books without a problems. The Zinio application is great too! Awesome for magazines. Cons. 1. that great screen certainly takes more energy, so the battery life is just average. Its a compromise. On the upside, the AC adapter charges very fast and there are good power saving settings. 2. External speakers I think could be better. I'm still working on this one. Sometimes sounds better upside down. 3. More honeycomb Android apps needed. But this isn't specific to the Sony, just that I'm finding applications are coming out for Apple first, andt then Android second, or delayed. Again, just a matter of time and a choice with going with Android platform. 4. No newspapers on the e-reader tablet. copyright issues? I'm not sure why, but I can't access my e-reader subscribed newspapers on the Sony e-reader tablet. Not an error, it is listed in the software not tablet compatible. This is a bit annoying. Conclusion. I am very happy with the Sony S tablet. Sony speciifc services and Android software I hope will roll out in the near future... I'll just try and be patient.

3 Star Review   By macky on Sony - Official Store - Mar 15, 2012

I been waiting for this tablet since it was announced for production. I am a student who carries around a laptop. This tablet replaced it. I can do just about everything I was able to do with my laptop. In addition, I managed to download textbooks as well. So now instead of my backpack weighing something like 15lbs, I have only tablet and a notebook for notes.

A great device hamstrung my Sony's dumb use of a custom connector and NO usb charging. Also, come clever person at Sony has decided that a mobile device like this does NOT need a car charger. Doh, doh and Super Doh. I think even Homer Simpson would not be that dopey! Seriously guys, you dont have kids who need entertaining in the back of the car. Oh yes, I must remember to keep the Tablet fully charged before any car journey!

I liked it a lot better than the iPad 2, the only downsides were the memory saying 16GB and only have 8GB available, and I connected it to my PS3 and it said Unrecognized device. It did work with Media Go so I did get to move movies to it, I still like it though, been wanting it forever.

I decided to purchase a tablet for business purposes. I bought an Apple iPad because I had heard so much about it and all of the available apps. When I got it, I found it difficult to set up my personal wireless internet for the first time. I had trouble keeping a good wireless connection. I tried to use the free wifi outside of a Starbucks and had to go inside to get a good connection. I never had that kind of trouble with my laptop. Later, I did a mock presentation and realized that I could not view flash websites. Needless to say, I took the iPad back and traded it in for the Sony S. I could not be happier. The wireless set up process was easy. I can once again relax on the patio at Starbucks on the internet. I can play Playstation games on the go whereas with the iPad, I could not. I was on the internet, playing games and watching flash videos within the first fifteen minutes of having the Sony S and there is so much more to discover. I would have to say that the iPad is prettier. Holding it felt natural. The screen was wider so each page looked great. In the end it came down to esthetics versus functionality. I am happy with my decision to choose the superior functionality found in the Sony S. By the way, it very is durable. Unfortunately I have already dropped it twice from about 3 feet up and it is still ticking. P.S. I should get paid for this, but I did not. The Sony S is just a really great tool.

Almost perfect
4 Star Review   By NewspaperGuy on Sony - Official Store - Feb 18, 2012

Bought the Sony Tablet S a couple of days ago, and I am just not happy...too many gimicks. So, I watched a video explaining the many features of this tablet, and I thought that this would be a good investment. Boy was I wrong. Tru-black? What is that? I own both an iPad 2 32GB and the original Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0. There is just something about the Sony Tablet S's screen that just doesn't seem right. It's as if the screen is not as sharp as my other tablets, and the vividness is just lacking. It really takes away from the viewing experience. I really wish the screen was a bit brighter. Also the color temperature is hideous. That may by why the screen seems off. As a television manufactuer, they should have created an option for adjusting the color temperature of the screen. Whites don't really look white, but more like a dingy off white on the Tablet S. Speaking of the screen, I can't figure for the life of me what Sony did with the wallpaper settings. I can set a full resolution (resolution matching that of the Tablet S's screen) wallpaper, but this scrollable wallpaper feature causes the photo to become distorted due to the crop factor. Um, hello! Sony's new model camera's have this awesome feature for taking panoramic photos, why not include default wallpapers that are taken with this feature! Or, give us the option to disable the scrollable wallapaper. Okay, what is the big deal with this transfer of files from the SD card? I have always envisioned a tablet with expandable memory. I thought I was getting that when I bought this tablet, but apparently that was not the case. Sony, hire app developers that will design a hord of widgets! That is what makes the Android OS shine. That's the whole reason I bougtht an Android tablet. Yes, I can download widgets from the market, but it is so much better when they are designed specifically for the device. Sony seemed to yield to marketing strategy to limit the standards of their tablet. Yes, it is full of features, such as DLNA, Playstation Cetified, the Remote Control App, and it's ergonomic design. However, why do I need extra cables to add a port for HDMI? Why isn't there a flash on the back for the camera? Why won't this tablet accept a micro SD card not only for transferring data, but also reading document, photo, video, and music files? Just wondering when Sony is going to push the boundaries of the tablet, as oppose to just market around the status quo? The only reason I got this tablet instead of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus is because it has a bigger screen, and I mostly purchase Sony products anyway. I would recomment this tablet if you really like the available Playstation games. Using this as a universal remote is also a cool feature. The Sony Tablet S has a lot of great things going for it, but it is just the small things that doesn't make it exceptional.

Best Android Tablet on the market
4 Star Review   By weaponx88 on Sony - Official Store - Jan 29, 2012

Over all this tablet works as it should and runs pretty smooth until you get online. The wifi reception is at 1 - 2 bars max while ALL my other devices are at full reception so it is not the router but definetly the tablet. The reception fluctuates constantly from 1 - 2 bars and constantly even drops. It works mediocre at best while simple google searches but beyond that it is useless. All other applications work "OK" for now.

This tablet was awesome
2 Star Review   By musick76 on Sony - Official Store - Jan 29, 2012

I'm very pleased with the tab S. A lot of the early issues have apparently been fixed. I'm using the Ice Cream Sandwich version of Android, and it seem pretty sound. The remote control feature was easy to set up(no Sony HD tuner support though), and I added an app for a Google TV remote control that is great. Throwing media to the Google TV was somewhat of a problem, but I downloaded another app that solved that problem. Sending stuff to the tab S works well. The charger/dock is a great addition, especially if you have trouble plugging the power cord into the tablet: the tab slips into the dock with no problem and you can run useful apps, like "Cassandra" while the tab is in the dock. That gives you time, temperature and news while the tab isn't otherwise busy. Angry Birds, Pinball Heroes, Amazon Instant Video, Google Maps and traffic, etc., etc. The tab s is fun and useful.

Almost Perfection
4 Star Review   By packercruising on Sony - Official Store - Jan 25, 2012

Review of Sony S Tablet * I ordered the tablet on Oct 25 from digitalBargains, through Amazon and received it Nov 2. * The first thing you notice is that it does not look like any other tablet on the market. It is thicker on top so that when you hold it in the portrait position most of the weight is on the one side and it is less strenuous for reading. What might appear as a marketing ploy actually has ergonomic value. This also allows room for the USB port and SD slot. * Charged it before use and set up was a breeze. * Battery life is listed as 6-7 hours. I used it for 3 3/2 hrs general use and the battery was still at ½ power. It has 16 G of storage and 1 gig RAM. It weighs exactly the same as an iPad2. * It starts up very quick and is very easy to navigate. * Connecting to the internet is very quick and the processor seems even faster then my laptop. * I am not sure how good audio and video are supposed to be on a tablet but both are very good here. The speakers are better then the ones in my laptop. * It has a GPS, which I didn't even know about until I printed out the User Guide. It zoomed right in on my current location. * As with other devices you can rotate and stretch the screen. It is capacitive touch. * Setting up your email is pretty much automatic. You can sync it to your PC account and do not have to use webmail. * Rear facing camera is 5 mp. DLNA automatically synced with the TV so I should be able to swipe pictures directly to the set. Oh, and it has a universal remote that works well too. * If Play Station is high on your list of reasons to want this device, you may be disappointed. It comes with a pinball game, which works very well, and Crash Bandicoot, which might be good if you already know how to play it.. Very hard to find online instructions for it. The Play Station Store only has about 10 games you can purchase for it. * The on-screen keyboard is really neat and changes depending on it's function. * One of the reasons I was interested in the Sony S Tablet is that I already have a Sony ereader. The tablet has a large enough screen that you can turn it to landscape and have 2 pages at once on the screen. Turning the pages is a breeze. * This gets a 5 star rating as it has exceeded my expectations.

Love it!
4 Star Review   By Rumrnr629 on Sony - Official Store - Jan 24, 2012

Sony Tablet S Review For starters the Sony S Tablet is the first tablet released by Sony Entertainment, This 9.4 inch screen is a great size tablet, as well as designed and programed to stand out from other tablets on the market. The look of the tablet is unique from the rest of the tablets on the market. The top of the tablet is a rounded 1 inch edge, while the bottom is around 1/4 to 1/2 inch. So that when you look at it from the side is give you a more triangle look, what this does is gives you and angled surface when laid flat and typing, as well as gives you a more firm grip when in portrait mode to give more of a book feel, making it more comfortable while reading e-books. The tablet has 2 cameras one on the front and one on the back however i was disappointed to see no flash from the camera. The sides of the tablet are recessed in hiding the buttons for power, and volume, as well as ports, such as the headphone jack, and under a little Tab is a SD card reader, and mini usb port. The charging port is on the bottom, however i was not thrilled about how the plug worked, this is because it feels loose. We do have the dock for the Tablet which make charging easy, as well as you can have the tablet when plugged in work as a clock or digital picture frame. Out of the box the Sony S Tablet comes with 3.1, but instantly ungraded to 3.2 Google Android Honeycomb Operating Systems. This already places the Sony S Tablet A head of Most Tablets on the market. Playing with the tablet is can see that Sony went the extra mile with this, not only does it have the Android Markets but Sony personalized applications. Sony gave this tablets Sony music unlimited and video unlimited subscription service. This tablets is also geared towards Sony PlayStation users, while it is still in development or beta, the Sony S Tablets are going to be capable of playing Sony PS1 and PSP games, having a full PlayStation game store. As of right now it does come with Crash Bandicoot. Another great feature on the device is that it has a inferred, which gives it full capability is being a universal remote for any brand TV, DVD, cable box, and any other audio/video devices. To further incorporate itself into your living room the Tablet is fully DLNA capable with other DLNA devices. The release of the Sony S Tablet came with exclusive rights to be the only tablet for a set amount of time to have Crackle Video service and Foursquare. As for hardware this device is comparable to most higher end Android tablets in terms that it is running a Tegra 2 dual core processor with 1 gigabyte of Ram. There is the 16 and 32 gigabyte storage that is expandable with a SD card. The camera's are rear 5mp and front is a 0.3mp for video chat. Much like most other tablets it comes with WiFi b/g/n and Blue-tooth 2.1, however is does lack a HDMI port or even attachment. This big question is that how does the Sony S Tablet stack up against other tablets? For a price tag starting at $499.99 i would say it is right up there with the iPad and Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1. The great thing about this device is you have the customization of being android with a smooth interface developed by Sony, much like the Samsung Galaxy tab. If i have not already owned the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 i would be at a loss trying to choose between the Samsung and Sony. The great thing is that Both Samsung and Sony are two electronic companies that are leading the industry from TV, DVD players, to Laptops and Now tablets. This is another device i would recommend over the iPad and iPad2. One thing that would make me choose the Samsung over the Sony is the accessories for example the Samsung Keyboard dock, HDMI, USB, and Memory Card adapters. The Sony S Tablets come highly recommended as a tablet to purchase for your home.

Beautiful product!
5 Star Review   By TMcNulty on Sony - Official Store - Jan 23, 2012

This tablet is the best on the market. Its new and growing but its doing so quickly. Everything about this tablet is extraordinary genius. Having the play station store along with the android market make it the ultimate handheld gaming console. Playstation game quality, it's AMAZING! Add the sony network that for a cost gives you a library of a million songs instantly, and the best movie selection out there. They even get some movies before they are in the theater. Now the ir remote may be the coolest feature, though thats tough to say. I have my three tvs, 3 satellite boxes, my home surround system, blu ray disc player, and my sons rorry toy remote control car all controlled by my S tablet. Since my tablets always with me, I never spend a second looking for a remote. Its awesome because the ir is built in. That means you dont need a wifi or 3g signal to use it. Plus you still have apps in the market to control things through wifi. The final piece to this master piece is the dnla function. You can take what your viewing and throw it to pretty much any tv or device in your house. Blu ray players, game systems, laptops, and most tvs built in the last 7 years. That means no wires, no downloads just a few buttons and your sharing a movie with the whole family. I think the SD card slot is a sucess because it makes it possible to carry countless amounts of data that can be imported or exported effortlessly with the opening of an preinstalled sony app and the press of a button and its done. You could carry and have hundreds of movies with you that you can put on your tablet in a couple of minutes. Videos take up to most space if you send them to the sd card in the slot then your tablet dont get bogged down with unnecessary data. Just load the movie you want to watch and put it back when your done. Likewise 16 or 32 gigs is more than enough space for apps and songs, save files. Without Videos slowing you down taking up all your space 16 gigs is more than you need. And the final thing is there is an adapter which should come with the tablet but is available for purchase that allows you to plug in other devices using a usb. I have family with ipad 2's I wouldnt trade my tablet for all of theirs. One last thing people complain about 3g, the truth is 3g, 4g is not that great, and spotty at best. You have to pay to have it on a device atleast $30-50. If you get a mobile hotspot you pay the same but can use the wifi for 5-10 devices. So your a fool if you pay for each device separately. Smartphone data package $30, tablet data package $30, wifi for laptop, $30, ohh you have to do this for your spouses and childs devices too. Ill just use a hot spot, and ofcourse home wifi, not to mention the wifi offered just about everywhere for free. 3g 4g in a tablet is a rip off. Heres an idea download the book before you leave the hotel to go to the beach. And if your camping your 3g wont work anyway.

5 Star Review   By phil31169 on Sony - Official Store - Jan 21, 2012

This tablet is great, but disappointing at the same time. If you have a home theatre system or other multi-remote entertainment system, you are dying to own this tablet and may not even know it! Just don't expect to use it for video chatting or for any other front camera utilization unless you keep a flood light handy. I mean, really Sony. You make outstanding cameras and camcorders. So what were you thinking here?

Really loving my Sony S 16gig, but am sorry there is no card storage, only SD card for transferring files. I'm a rabid Android fan, so enjoy the internet experience. Sound for music is very shallow and tinny with no options for adjustments.

Considering that I wanted to own a nice Android tablet and from a reputable company, I ordered this tablet for well over $400 last year. In the last 6 months I've had to send this twice to Sony for repairs. I will not advise anyone to buy this product. Also, I'm disappointed with Sony. I had a very high opinion about this products.

S Tablet
3 Star Review   By bluemems on Sony - Official Store - Jan 15, 2012

I got the Sony 16GB tablet 2 as a media controller for my home entertainment system. This turns out I fail for the sony marketing. As of 3.2.1 firware relese: The WIFI is flacy. It sometimes disconnect for no apprent reason. Since the device is a stay at home device I have the wifi set to always stay connected. The front and back camers are terrible. very noisy and grainy, it reminds me of the early days of camera phones. The back camera is a lot better than the front but still very noisy. I have been using facetime a lot on my iphone and I can use in normal lighting. The front facing camera is so bad I can't even use it for Skype. Why sony Why? I've hoping both problems can be fixed by a software update but as of now, sony tech suppot thinks the cameras are great. As for software is this is my greatest disappointment in the Sony tablet S. The HD Media Remote app will only work for Sony devices 2011 beyond. It will only work with my Sony STR-DN1020 AVR. The Remote Control app is clunky to use. You setup a remote profile for each device, then it's like having several remotes on your lap at the sametime. There is no concept of a single integrated remote with macros to control your entertainment system. So now I don't bother using the Sony tablet as a remote because it's more trouble than using the real remote. The DLNA app is terrible. It's like no real thought was put into it. Very basic design to give a very minimal user experience. Worst it's not even integrated with the Music player app, Gallery app or Video player app. The Music app can show you the music play status when play music from a DLNA server but it will not navigate the contents of the server or update its database with the content of the server. The Gallery app can only display contents from the internal storage or from Picasa. It will not access the pictures on DLNA server. The Video player will only access internal storage contents. It will not access DLNA server contents. To make matters worst the DLNA will not play videos generated from my DSC-WX1, DSC-WX5, or DSC-HX9V camers. I have 3 years of mp4 videos and the Sony tablet S will not play any of it. My Sony xbr-hx909 will play the video, the playstation 3 will play the video but not the sony tablet S. Why oh Why? My iPhone and iPad can play the video using a DLNS client.. I can even play the video on the iPhone and send the audio the the sony SA-NS500 speaker. Why can I not do this with the Sony Tablet S? Why is the no compatibilty between sony products? Even worst because the Sony tablet S can not play the video, it will not even let you throw the video to a device that can. The Sony Table S faild as a media content controller, it not even compatible with sony's own formats. Also, the touch screen seems to hang sometimes when trying to use a slider control. I've seen this several times. And the touch screen doesn't seem to be as procise and you would expect. Bottomline, I got this to contol my media around the house and it faild big time. It seems I would have been better off getting another iPad. I will have to check the return policy to way my options to wait until Andoid 4.0 and hope sony improve the software. After that my only option is to put this on ebay and get another iPad. This was my first Android product and so far I have been greatly disappointed. I thought I'd try something different instead of apple iphone and ipad.

I have been playing this tablet for past 3 days. First impression is - this is an awesome tablet!! Sony got this right. All good things bundled into one. No questions that this tablet will be a strong contender for leader position once application on honeycomb 3.2 catch up (verson Apple). Rear camera images are definitely good. IR remote. Few drawbacks - - Availability of Apps for honeycomb. - the tablet becomes almost inoperable while charging. I belive it has something to do with the capacitative touch display. - quality of images on Front facing camera is passable(expected out of a VGA).

3 Star Review   By SrChief on Sony - Official Store - Jan 13, 2012

Key strokes duplicate very easy. It is very hard to enter anything without having letters etc doubling. Very little info on use is supplied--its just learn as you go. Did not receive entertainment package as advertized so have not tried a lot of the features. It does have a few extras that are not on other tablets that other family members have. I think I should have just upgraded my laptop!

I've had my tablet S for little over a week now and am so far loving it. I returned a Dell xtreak that I got for Christmas and got this. I had some reservations at first because some previous Sony products had left a bad taste with me, at one time every electronic device I owned was Sony. This tablet is well built, fast and runs every app I've treid flawlessly. Movies play clearly, the wifi connects quickly and very little lag has been noticed. Some web pages move slow but most of that is my broadband connection. I would have given the tablet 5 stars if it had an hdmi output, but so for that is the only con I have found.

Sony Tablet S1
5 Star Review   By mrsonny on Sony - Official Store - Dec 20, 2011

I love this tablet and the reason I chose this one is because i love sony products and this tablet is great. I love the IR i can control all my stereo home system, blue ray , my yamaha receiver and tv of course. Internet browsing is really smooth and I love the fact that i can watch other movies for free on crackle so now i have netflix plus crackle to watch more movies without paying so much on cable. Another reason i chose this tablet over the iPad is because i have an apple computer at home and the iPad its just a small version of my iMac so I needed something different now I have bigger options and more applications to play and explore. I am very happy with my sony tablet, i love it, totally different from the iPad. iPad its nice but i needed something more stylish & unique, I have always been a fan of sony products.. So go ahead buy a sony tablet and have fun with it.......Note: My wifi with the sony tablet works great!! I always get a full bar.

Great Tablet
5 Star Review   By Kevo on Sony - Official Store - Dec 6, 2011

Ultimately, if you would like the world's most expensive universal remote, then be my guest and buy this tablet. The wifi shuts off after the screen shuts off. This is not good as the tablet will not sync anything unless the screen is on. I suppose if you buy the cradle, then the screen will allow it to sync because the screen stays on. However, I really did not like the plastic feature as well. It felt extremely cheap. I thought I would like this over the iPad because I thought it would work with my PS3; however, I was wrong. You have to buy a seperate cable, which is pointless. Sony has really been letting down, including Android. I completely switched to the iPhone and iPad...I literally have no complaints whatsoever about the Apple devices. They work perfectly.

I was very dissappointed when I found out my 16 gb tablet was actually an 8 gb because the operating system takes up about 8 gb. also tech support said the only way to have a slide show of my photos was to copy them to the device, it will only show one photo at a time from the additional memory card very dissappointing.

Full Review, Compared to Samsung and Apple
4 Star Review   By hickslv426 on Sony - Official Store - Nov 15, 2011

I just feel that the PS Certified aspect is somewhat misleading. You can only play the select downloadable games from the PS suite site to play on the tablet and they are few and far between. I thought that being PS Certified, I would be able to transfer my old PSone & PSP games from my PS3 to the tablet. This is not the case. It's not backward compatible. I would have to buy them again. Also, if they were focusing on gamers - Why not have DS3 connectivity to play the games with the controller instead of the touch screen? If you can use a bluetooth keyboard, why not a DS3? If this is something that can be sorted by a firmware upgrage then I would buy this tablet.

I really wanted to love this. Tried a xoom and took it back and got this. Design and everything on this is great. Fact you cant read from sd card without downloading some app to do it is ridiculous. The throw feature would be cool if it could be thrown to my tv or even the ps3 which it cant since it only acts as a dlna client. Maybe there is some fancy way to get around it but for the price I expect it out of the box. It throws to my computer, but if I wanted to see them there I would just look at them on there without this. Have a sony camera that does hd movies, and cant even view them on here as its not compatible. Tablet has potential with updates maybe, but needs to become compatible with other sony devices...

5 Star Review   By tabletFamily on Sony - Official Store - Nov 1, 2011

Having played with the Samsung Galaxy 10.1 and the Sony S for several days side-by-side you really start to see and understand what Sony is trying to do. It is very easy to hold and you do not get fatigued using one hand due to the asymmetrical design. But a small trade off is when I play 2 player glow hockey for example, it doesn't lay perfectly flat. On the other hand, laying landscape on the desk is much better on the S due to the incline and eases typing. Holding the Galaxy for a long time starts to wear on the hand - I will take the Sony trade-off. And I think this is part of another trade off Sony made that I rated as a con but appreciate it nonetheless. The plasticky case helps in the weight area whereas the Galaxy was very dense and led to the hand fatigue due to the thin bevel digging in to my hand, in any orientation. Using this for the kids online text books is great too (we went to several sites to confirm - some sites do need to be adapted to tablet based GUI interaction still). Not to mention having the wrist strap because you know it is going to get dropped. It is way to easy to accidentally drop the Galaxy when we are outside using google sky map in the dark night (its gorilla glass did the job though - hope the S will hold up too if and when it happens). Honeycomb OS has its issues but that is with all droid based pads. Only question not known yet is overall durability, time will tell.

Not the work horse
1 Star Review   By katori on Sony - Official Store - Oct 31, 2011

I got my S1 and it was happy days, until, I started using it. USB is not the normal USB. If I pay five hundred dollars on a unit it better have proper cables with it. Memory card: First I thought new standard until I saw the new Y series which still uses the duo. Workspaces which would be open a program and then goto another workspace and open another. Once the program is open it is all. Out of box there is no word processor, no unzip. Apps market. This is a bad place. Took for way too long to get through the TOS with it multi-links. My first app was for my eMail which did not want to be my old eMail only my new google account. It was alful interface it gave me a simple folder look which was too small to click on the right selection. It does not play well with flash. I would have it fighinting between acting in the flash window and the browser window. The other apps I downloaded were not complete. They would do one thing and not another. I play with linux so I am used to this when I am not doing important things. Open source here makes me feel like I will never find the right program for doing things. I called Tech support which they do good work. They told me I can bluetooth files This is okay if they are small. Get too big and it is slow. It does not like folders. So Sending a hundred pictures is yes send send to tablet yes something being sent yes accept. For each file. This is only if it knows what it is. If I want to send anything to MY tablet I should not have that problem. I did not find a way to sort the files by name only first one on last one shown. Google wants to know all of my business. If I want to make a schedule I should be allowed to without having to login to my account. The same for my contacts. The price I paid I want to be able to do more than my t250 which is XP and over five years old. I should be bring a new product in to my system not looking to throw all that stuff away because this does not play well with others. The feel is good. The things I did do were quick. The graphics are strong. The touch screen works well. The support I got was good. It plays games music videos simple surfing and do non important stuff. This is too much to pay.

Could be better!
4 Star Review   By lyrisist on Sony - Official Store - Oct 30, 2011

Decided to buy now when I heard of the playstation controller was added with an update. Am dissapointed as I thought the games could be played on the large screen by throwing or a cable temporarily. This should be done soon. I have 2 Bravia TVs that are wondering what were you thinking?

Form and Function A+
5 Star Review   By Electro on Sony - Official Store - Oct 17, 2011

I was mulling between an iPad 2 and this device. I decided to go with the Sony because of the PSP and universal remote capability. This tablet has not disappointed and I am just starting to realize that the things you can do with this tablet are almost limitless. I have downloaded some apps off the market and have fully customized the device to fit me and my needs and now I just love it. I wish the universal remote was more like a logitech remote where you can program multiple devices and they are all controlled by one single interface. If you want to put the volume up on the surround sound you have to select surround sound and then change the volume and if you want to change the channel you have to switch to the cable box and then change the channel. I am also a little disappointed with the PSP because there are only a handful of games out right now. I was hoping to play games like god of war on the tablet but no luck yet.

Lousy Tablet
1 Star Review   By td1684 on Sony - Official Store - Oct 13, 2011

Overall I like the tablet s but there are a few little things they could have done better on such as seen as this device is playstation certified they should have made the ps3 wireless headset compatible, also the ps3 should recognize it. Bigger selection on ps store would be nice and the file transfer thing is a bit weird but I am getting used to it. Although I think the ipad and a couple other tabs have better touchscreens sonys is very functional but cold clearly be better....but one of the biggest negatives is the charger....seriously??? Whoever approved this design should be fired. who knows where and why they came up with this why not just make it micro USB like 90% of smartphones nowadays?? Everything else IS bearable with this well put together device its just hard (when im deciding whether or not to take my tab on the go) to look past the stupid charger.....just terrible....again fired.

Almost Great...
3 Star Review   By ChrisDeQ on Sony - Official Store - Oct 10, 2011

I personally feel that this is gonna beat iPad2 and all other competitors. The NVIDIA Tegra 2 (1GHz Dual-Core) & 1GB RAM gives really an added flavor to the Sony's S series Tablet. IR Remote is really a very good feature which every other tablet manufacturers are neglecting. Thanks to Sony for that. Good Luck Sony!

So far so great!
5 Star Review   By MrLazyman1234 on Sony - Official Store - Sep 28, 2011

The Sony S1 Tablet is a great tablet for all ages. It comes with gaming for kids and can also do many business like thing. Its touch screen is very smooth and its shape is perfect for typing. The battery life is pretty decent compared to other tablets. Although it has its ups, it also has its downs. The Sony S1 tablet has very little internal memory. Of the 16GB I have, I can only use about 8.92 GB's. Another downfall about this tablet would be that it has a bright green light that flashes at night. I have not found a way of turning it off but Sony may include a update for this in the future. Over all, the Sony S1 tablet is a 5 out of 5.

One of the best tablets in the market
4 Star Review   By Betty7cool on Sony - Official Store - Sep 25, 2011

I own an ipad2, and this is almost as good as the ipad2. Sony tablet S1 has a good design that I think it beats ipad2. It has a fast response performance. It has some good features. There are a few things they can improve. 1. The keyboard seems a bit delay on the clicking sound and the response is not consistent. Sometimes it is very sensitive that would give me double letters, but sometimes it is a bit delay. It is not as smooth as to ipad2. The green arrow cusor is ignoring. A lot of times it places on somewhere that is not right, I need to spend time to move it back to the place I want, but then it would go back to the place that is misplaced before. I don't know if it is an Android problem or Sony, but please fix it. 2. For pdf reader, it is not as smooth as ipad2. I'm using goodreader in ipad2 and using ezPDF Reader in S1. Sony shows a cleaner and shaper text and diagrams on reading pdfs, but it takes longer time to load the pages and the zoom function is not smooth as ipad2. 3. Missing VGA out. I am a professor in college and a designer, i would like to use it to show class notes and presentation, but it is missing the VGA out or mirror image that ipad2 has. 4. Apps crash sometimes. S1's performance is fast, but not as stable as ipad2. It has to be fixed. I don't know if it is an Ardroid issue or if Sony can help fix some of their custom apps. The Browser crashes quite often and is not supporting all the website. I need to download another app to get the full website experience. 5. The speaker sound quality can be improved and need to be louder. 6. I still couldn't find out how to mute the keyboard clicking sound. I was using it in a meeting, but it was too noisey. I had it muted, but when I was typing, everyone looked at me. It was still making sound when I used the keyboard. 7. When will they release more ps or psp certified games? 8. If they can make it the SD card as an external storage, it will be perfert, but now whenever I need to read the pdfs on my SD card, I need to transfer them to the internal memory. It would stay internally, but it takes up the space that I only have 3gb available. Overall it is a good tablet. If they can fix those problems and improve the keyboard preformance in the next update and add the VGA out function, the tablet market is yours, Sony!

Must have!!!
5 Star Review   By AlwaysSony on Sony - Official Store - Sep 20, 2011

I've had the Sony S Tablet for 3 days, it seemed to be working just fine last night when I shut it down with around 16% battery life remaining. This morning it would not turn on. So I assumed that the battery had run out of juice during shut down. I plugged it in and left it for a while. I then tried to turn it on. No response. I then left it until the charge light turned green, unplugged it, and tried to turn it on again. No response. So my husband is now on his way to return it, and get a replacement. If the next one does the same, we will be asking for a full refund. As for the performance when it was working. I really liked it. It was fast on websites, the e-reader was great and really easy to use. I loved that it had Crash Bandicoot pre-installed. I didn't have much time with it to explore the other features. However, the battery life was not as good as I'd hoped. I've heard that it should last 8 to 10 hours while in use, depending on what you use it for, but I only got about 5 and a half hours, just from using the e-reader and browsing the internet, no video streaming or gameplay. Considering the price, I need the new tablet to not have any faulty aspects, and I need to find some way of improving the battery life to its expected level, so I can use it during long flights. Perhaps leaving it to charge a while beyond the change of the charge light to green, is the answer. Perhaps this one was dropped at the factory or in the store. I have hope for the next one, none-the-less.

Broken after 3 days
3 Star Review   By dani08 on Sony - Official Store - Sep 19, 2011

Got it as an alternative to iPad my wife already had since some features such as flash were a breaking point to my web related work. It is very enjoyable to see the web pages loading in exactly the same way as they do on a desk top. Overall I like the product, but I wish the developing team could pay more attention to things like the charging cable. Why oh why you had to make a separate cords and a box? Could be better to have just one! Other than that, yep I like it and I am taking it to my vocation destination to read the news and to watch the Netflix in the evening. Thanks SONY!

I love my tablet, I was worried at first because I had a tried a few other tablet that didn't compare to the IPAD. But I must say I am so glad I went the Sony S1 Tablet, it is the best tablet out there for the money, and yes I even like it better the the IPAD speaking from my personal experience.

Wifi Problem
2 Star Review   By EWLSWE on Sony - Official Store - Sep 18, 2011

great buy, I did buy 32GB of memory for it, the only issue I have is that it can only be used as a storage card. You cant set it to be a default location or anything, everything must be manually transferred to it.

Great But.... A little disappointed
4 Star Review   By CamiloMorales on Sony - Official Store - Sep 18, 2011

This tablet delivers an excellent experience for the end user. It's light, fast, it has very good image quality for surfing on Internet, for watching videos. I only miss that the SD card can be used better, next models show allow users to get full advantage of the information on the SD card.

Interesting alternative
4 Star Review   By Carbon on Sony - Official Store - Sep 15, 2011

I've been using this tablet for about a week. I paid $399 for it, which I strongly believe is a decent price for the product. Competitively, this product is better than what some top competition has to offer for the same or higher prices, and it stands out on its own. I'm not sure about some complaints about plastic, which happens to be very classy but I guess to each is own. This product also doesn't get hot after extensive use like some other tablets including iPad, so, kudos to a beautiful plastic effect. On the flip side, you have the wifi issues whereas when tab goes into sleep mode it disconnect, even with it set to always stay on. I'm thinking this is to save battery but I'd rather they didn't do that. When the screen is too bright while using it on battery, chances are the screen would go blank. In other to bring it back on you'll have to hold down power button for 10 seconds for it to restart so you can have your screen back on. Otherwise your option is to set the screen level on average and below. I'm guessing this is also to save battery but I'd rather they didn't do that. Other than that this has been a great experience with this beautiful and well thought out equipment. It's fast and powerful enough for what you can throw at it. Best of all you'll stand out at Starbuck or your local library or work or school or what-have-you. It works for me.

the ultimate
5 Star Review   By mehran on Sony - Official Store - Sep 12, 2011

i am very pleased with this tablet, granted its my 1st one so i am subject to the wow factor but still, apps like gmote and swiftp work flawlessly, the remote is perfect, (could use a skin or 2) and the screen is very very good even for reading books. missing is hdmi out and i wish it was an option on the cradle at least. i also don't understand why they locked out the sd2? slot like they did making it a hassle to use files from the sd slot. however workarounds are there and all and all i am very happy with this tablet. even with the now supported ps3 controller function i have found the ps1 games to be a waste of space, however the ps3 controller (via Bluetooth) does work with all aspects of the tablet. (including emulators) i highly recommend this tablet

Very Promising?
4 Star Review   By jmorales0201 on Sony - Official Store - Sep 10, 2011

This tablet is pretty much everything you can expect it to be. I use it for just about everything, from online browsing to reading my favorite articles on pulse. Youtube is extra awesome on here too. My only problem is that I bought a 32gb memory card for the tablet, and it doesnt read or save any apps on it. Apparently sony divided the internal memory card into 2 sections. Mines is a 16gb version, and the memory is split into 2 sections one is 4gb for apps and then there are 8gb that is the "storage". I can only file transfer the things from the sd card to the tablet, it can't read the multimedia from the external sd card. Other than that the tablet is really good.

I text with it, keep an eye on the weather, ive read a fiew books on it, check email, netflix, skype and alot more. Long story short I see this as one of the best things to drop out of Sony. Almost Perfect
4 Star Review   By Muzics on Sony - Official Store - Sep 8, 2011

Sony has made a good product here but unfortunately it falls short on some very basic levels. The feel of the tablet is great and its very light and fast, after waiting this long for Sony to enter the market I expected a little more. I had to return the first tablet due to the connection on the power cable, it would not allow it to charge. The loop connections on the ac adapter that make contact with the tablet are spring loaded and would not come up to make contact. I can see this being a problem down the road for some and I recommend purchasing the cradle if you can, it’s a good price. Now to the USB connection which I find non standard, why Sony didnt just make it a mini USB like all the other Sony products (PSP,camera's), this is another nickel and dime gimmick that’s uncalled for. So now you have to purchase the USB a/b cable (which should have been included) plus another USB cable to connect to that, silly at best. The price point of 499.00 is a little high for a 9'' tablet especially with no USB cable, maybe the ir remote has something to do with that. The IR remote however works flawlessly with most devices, receiver,tv's,dvd players blueray, etc. a great feature. These minor possibly major design flaws are easily forgotten once you start using the tablet, its very fast and the software features for remote control and being able to throw a video/ or audio to other devices max out the cool factor. I also have an Acer A500 and the S tablet beats the Acer hands down on performance, on some features and product weight. The DLNA feature is also a giant plus which will allow you to connect to other devices on your network and play the media from that device on the tablet, or watch it on your TV with the throw feature. I would have like to have seen a 10'' version but again missed the mark. The display is crisp clear and provides great contrast and color and the controls are well placed on the side close to your fingers.Battery life is also not that great however I have only had the tablet for a short couple of days, but compared to my Acer it doesnt look good. Overall I can only give the S tablet a weak 4 since Sony had all the time in the world to really bring it. These minor design issues of USB and power connection I hope will be resolved in Version 2 of the S tablet, and will propel this product from being just good to greatness.

best tablet ever
5 Star Review   By ninja5964 on Sony - Official Store - Sep 7, 2011

This is nice design and no problem with plastic. Although I basically like this tablet, Wi-Fi connectivity is a big problem now. I am not sure if this problem is only in my device or not. Especially under battery use, network connection is immediately down, even when wifi signal is strong. And, wifi setting doesn't work correctly in case, especially phase 2 authentication can't be chosen to anything, but always to "None". This network problem never happened in my HTC phone, which wifi is reliable and setting works properly. Without network, this device is useless. Total Space is only 8.92GB to store your data and application storage is 3.94GB. Therefore, you should not expect to use 16GB for user storage.

Awesome ! A fair change to my previous tablet
5 Star Review   By Vader on Sony - Official Store - Sep 7, 2011

I have had the tablet for about a month now and really love it. The one thing I wish Sony could have done better was the charger. While most electronics of this type are going to micro or mini chargers (like on your cell), Sony went the opposite direction and the charger is horribly designed. It makes portability a little more difficult as now you have to drag yet another charger around with you. Makes it not very portable. The table itself is wonderful - easy to use and navigate - great picture - battery life is OK depending on how much you use it.

Sony Racing With iPad2
4 Star Review   By Krish on Sony - Official Store - Aug 31, 2011

Tablet works great, all web sites work with this thing, the ir remote is awesome it works with my samsung tv, direct tv satellite box, pioneer receiver, and a 400 sony blu ray play. However it will not work with a ps3, but I may not have found out how to make it work yet. The real problem with it is the 8.92GB free space I knew I wasn't going to get 16GB but I thought I would be able to add a 32GB sd card, like I can with my Evo, but I was wrong I should have read the specs. better. All n all good tablet but I will be taking it back tomorrow for the 32GB one.
