3 Star Review

Strengths: It does boost antenna reception minorly

Weakness: It's not going to knock your socks off

I live in Phoenix where I pick-up "24 digital stations"... some repeats, but I get a decent variety. I noticed my Fox and my Channel 3 were a little in-and-out. I bought this signal booster here, and while it no longer goes completely out, I still find I get the distortion still. My signal fluxuated before booster: 0%-40%.. after booster: 10%-60% (on the weaker channels that I've observed). So it did make a difference... but don't look for "wow" results. Verdict: If your reception is ok, this will make it better. If your signal sucks... invest in a better antenna!

Boosted Cable Signal which feeds my TV and Internet Modem
4 Star Review

Strengths: Package contains extra cables and is easy to hook up.

Weakness: A little large

My digital cable was great on all stations until I subscribed to the internet through my cable company. Ever since, months, certain stations would break up or just not come in. My internet connection has been fine but ESPN did not. Being college football season, Go Tigers, I had to get ESPN working again. I hooked this booster up before my first splitter (splits to a back bedroom tv and front room cable box (with modem)). Right away all channels on both TV's were perfect plus my internet is still working fine.

Motorola Signal Booster
5 Star Review   By member dlj156 - Jun 5, 2007

Strengths: Simple to install. Works great. Ingenious power cord design.

Weakness: Cords provided are too short and you will have to use other connectors. Especially for the power supply however the cords are of good quality.

I had real bad signal problems before buying this product. Since installing it my reception has been better than ever. I did have to go out and buy some cable to complete the install but it was a minor inconvenience and the payoff is definitely worth it. If you are having problems with your cable reception, go get the Signal Booster.

Motorola Signal Booster
3 Star Review   By member jireynolds67 - Apr 17, 2007

Strengths: Still not determined

Weakness: Lower channels on one television have a poorer quality picture. This may be due to the current location of the booster.

I have six VCR’s and two Television sets hooked to my cable, in three separate locations in the house. I also have a Cable Modem for my computers. The signal for VCR’s and Televisions is normally good but the Cable Modem drops out fairly frequently. I ordered the Motorola Signal Booster to see if I could improve my Modem reception. I still have some dropout of signal but I believe there has been some improvement. I am still installing the booster in different locations on the cable to determine if it will improve the signal to the modem. I do know that the quality of the lower channels on one of my televisions has decreased. This may be due to the current location of the booster.

3 Star Review   By member bnayback - Dec 5, 2006

Strengths: Improved the few channels I was having a problem with..

Weakness: AFter about 6 months, it started to cut out my cable modem.

After using this booster to boost both my cable tv and modem, my internet connectivity went out. After troubleshooting I determined that the booster was the culprit. I had to move the booster using a 1 to 2 splitter to only accomodate the TV and even then, I am still getting some lines in the TV. I may have to get a new booster to see if this one is bad.

5 Star Review

Strengths: Eazy instal, instant results.Power is delived via RG59 cable with F connector so if you need a longer run to your powersource you can use a longer cable that you may have around.

I have 5 tv's in my house and sat tv, so I get my local channals from an outdoor antenna. As I was not getting a realy good signal on my tv's I hooked one tv up where the antenna enters the house and noticed the signal was great. I do live on hill so I thought I should be able to get good reception. After I hooked up the motorola signal booster where the tv antenna enters my house before the spliters to the seperat tv's all my tv's got great reception some chanals come in as good as my satalite channes and I found one channel I did not know I had. I would highly recomed this product if you have signal loss do to long runs and mutliple splits.

5 Star Review   By JohnByt on Provantage (Channel Engine) - Sep 23, 2006

Strengths: Does exactly what it is designed to do, amplify a weak signal.

Weakness: F Connector for power is a little clunky.

Have 4 televisions, cable modem and a media pc tuner connected to this drop amp. Corrected a weak signal issue that was causing poor picture quality on upper channels, poor upload speed and degraded download speed on home network pc's. This device is an amplifier not a magic box. If you have a poor quality signal it will help but won't fix the problem (Garbage in then a amplified garbage signal out). If you're incoming cable signal level is under +2db then you will have to correct that first. This drop amp supplies +15 db of amplification and provides a suitable signal level for all the devices listed above. The signal strength from my cable provider is +6 db at the ground block (Most Digital Cable Boxes have a setup screen that will display the signal strength at the set top box. You may have to search on line to find out how to get into setup). This +6 db signal level suitable for 1 television and the cable modem. The addition of the extra televisions dropped the signal to a point where picture quality and data rates were not acceptable to me. This product solved my problem.

Strengths: It works! And very well!

This is a product that actually performs it's designed intentions. It cleans up the signals and I now have almost the same as DVD quality on channels that were horrible before. I can't believe the difference. I'm ordering more for friends and family and maybe a spare. It's that good.

Solved all my problems
5 Star Review   By member gfeldt - Jun 5, 2006

Strengths: Ease of use

Weakness: Mail in rebate

I live in an apartment building with a cable modem, TiVo and HDTV all connected to the same outlet. My TiVo worked fine but the cable modem would lose download speed at night and my HDTV w/cable card was always loosing the signal and blacking out. I realized I had a weak signal when I disconnected the modem and TiVo and started getting better reception on the TV. I bought the Motorola Signal Booster based on reviews and now everything work perfectly. I connected the booster right at the cable outlet and split all three of my devices off the booster’s single output connection. The modem works at top speed (upload and download), my HDTV with cable card never loses signal and the TiVo works fine too. A bit expensive, but worth every penny considering how much I spent on the TV and computer.

good product, but price/performance does not make it a good purchase
3 Star Review   By member tlesh - Jul 16, 2005

Strengths: worked as described and boosted signal on most channels

Weakness: analog channels below 30 were not amplified greatly and are still quite snowy, although this may be due more to our cable quality

I only give this item 3 stars because I bought a Radio Shack booster for about 15 dollars less and had exactly the same results. The Radio Shack booster, although it claimed to only boost the signal 10dB when compared to Motorola's 15dB may have actually had slightly better signal quality. Thus, I think paying the extra money for this booster is a waste. It does the job, but the price/performance ratio is pretty bad.

4 Star Review   By member libertybell - May 13, 2005

Strengths: Easy to install

Weakness: RG59 cable

My cable drop runs into a 2 way splitter. One goes directly to the cable modem and the other goes to the Motorola Signal Booster. The signal booster feeds a 4 way splitter. Three legs go directly to 3 TVs. The other leg goes to a 2 way splitter. From there the 4th TV and a VCR/TV capture card in the PC are hooked up. The cable modem is trouble free. The 4 TV's look good except the one that's at the opposite end of the house. The Motorola Signal Booster has made a definite difference even on the distant TV. While it's not as clear as the other TVs it is better with the booster than without it. I guess I have asked a lot of the Motorola Signal Booster. BTW, TV on the PC looks good as well. I installed the booster outside in the cable demarcation box. Specs say it can operate from -40 to 140 degrees F. I like the fact that the "power cord" is a coax cable which made it much easier to run it indoors to a power outlet. BTW, I cut my own RG6 cables and attached compression connectors rather than use the RG59 cables supplied.

Weakness: Destroys the signal.

I just received the unit today installed it and I'm sending it back. I purchased it to get better HDTV and cable modem reception. My analog signal prior to installing the booster was excellent. My digital signal was good, but some channels experienced intermittent signal problems. My cable modem works well, but also has intermittent issues. After installing the booster, my analog signal went from excellent to S***!!! I had more snowfall on my screen than Yosemite this year. Unless you want to have the experience of watching TV outdoors on a Merry Snowy Christmas, don't buy this product!!!

Strengths: Does exactly what they advertise - improves your Cable TV picture quality and your Cable Modem Speed.

I have my cable split three ways and one of my TVs was getting a bad picture. After I installed this signal booster, the signal improved greatly to all my TVs. The TV that previously had a bad picture now looks great. At first, I was hesitant about purchasing this booster because I had used a cheap Radio Shack booster in the past and it made no difference. I must say that this Motorola Booster is definitely worth the price. Not only did my TV picture improve greatly, but my Cable Modem speed also improved. I would highly recommend this product.

Strengths: Good quality, relatively inexpensive (if bought over the internet), does the job

Weakness: None so far

I bought this not so much for a cable modem boost (my broadband is plenty fast for me), but I have 8 tv's scattered throughout the house and some at the far reaches had a somewhat grainy appearance. Once I hooked up this booster it definitely made all the pictures look great, even those at the end of the line. I'm very happy with the results and see no reason not to give it 5 stars!

2 Star Review   By member bestreviewer - Dec 12, 2004

Strengths: easy to install, do see signal increased in my Motorola SB5100 modem's signal console.

Weakness: The 2 coax cables that come with this booster are RG-59!!! Motorola tries to save a few cents! This amplifier makes 2 channels to have a line on the screen, that line wasn't there before.

I bought this for my cable TV. My signal is good. But after several splitters, the signal is not as good for my another TV, so I bought this and installed it right before my house's first splitter. There is a slight improvement on the picture, but not much. But it actually makes 2 channels to have a line on the screen, it wasn't there before, not sure why. My cable internet connection was great before installing this amplifier, but just went to the Motorola SB5100 modem's signal console to verify the signal increase, I did see the increase. But it doesn't help because my connection was already in top shape. I realized that the 2 coax cables that this booster includes are RG59!!! Why would Motorola include such an old standard cable just to try to save a few cents? RG59 is one of the reasons that can weaken your cable signal, so these cables kinda of cancel out the signal being boosted. The price is high for this product by the way, I expect them to include RG6 cables which are today's standard and cheap as dirt. Note: this amplifier won't increase your broadband speed beyond what you are supposed to have! If you see any increase of your broadband speed, it's because you had signal loss before, and now you got what you should have after the amplifier compensate for the signal loss. So, if your connection is already in top shape, it won't give you more bandwidth!

4 Star Review   By member ariescom - Nov 27, 2004

Strengths: easy installation, good signal increase

Weakness: supplied cables for connections are not high quality

The Motorola Signal Booster substantially increased the signal supplied by my cable company allowing for much clearer picture definition on my plasma TV and an older TV. Be sure to install the Booster at the point of entry in your home or apartment. In my case it did interfere with the internet cable, and it will not actually boost the cable internet signal. I solved this problem by using a good 2.4 GHz 2-way splitter at the point of entry to slpit the primary cable into one for the internet without Signal Booster while the second split went to the Signal Booster then on to the remaining cable for TV.

4 Star Review   By member blumchi - Oct 19, 2004

Strengths: Easy to install, good signal amplification, good value

Weakness: Packaging difficult to open

Highly recommended if you are considering replacing existing cable runs to improve TV signal quality. We recently had problems changing over from analog to digital cable TV on Comcast. We have 2 older RG-59 cable runs in our house installed by the previous owner that would have been extremely difficult to replace. The downstairs TV outlet reception was fine, but the upstairs run is probably around 100ft and was getting artifacts on many channels; in fact some channels were not even coming through. I purchased this Motorola amp through Pricegrabber for $40, and installed it prior to the splitter as recommended. The reception on both outlets are now fine and we saved the cost and trouble of rewiring the house with newer RG-6 cable. Hopefully this is a quality unit that will last a while. Only problem faced during the install was opening the silly impenetrable plastic blister pack that is commonly used by so many manufacturers these days. That is my pet peeve that prevented me from giving this product 5 stars.

Strengths: It has made my digital cable boxes and cable modem all increase speed and quality.

Weakness: Surges can kill kill it easily but Motorola is very good about replacing it quickly with a new one.

Before I received the booster only my digital cable box nearest to my incoming cable worked correctly even then it would tile most of the time. After connecting the booster my siganal strenght increased and both my boxes worked prefectly. My cable modem even gain speed from 2 megs to 3 meg downloads. I have VOD on my boxes and before the booster was added all I could get was the menu to select the movie and then would say signal low or lost now all those problems are gone. I had a bad lighting storm 30 days after I had connected the booster called motorola's tech support and they gave me a rma num and replaced with a new one very quickly. Note make sure if you have to call you have time to hold on phone can take awile for person to come on but it is worth the wait.

Strengths: Greatly improves signal strength.

Weakness: Mainly helpful if cable problems are result of weak signal.

I just installed the unit and it has made a noticable impact on my TV reception. Stations that were snowy from over-splitting are now much cleaner. Downstream strength on the cable modem was greatly increased (upstream unchanged) though I already was getting decent transfer rates so this had no impact.

Strengths: Works as advertised. Very noticeable increase in downstream power (-19dBmV became -9dBmV), 66% of advertised maximum through 3 splitters. Downstream SNR also increased from 25dB to 37dB.

Weakness: Expensive if not bought online.

The Motorola Cable Signal Booster works as described. Easy to install as all extra cables are provided. Noticeable difference in power level and SNR (mostly in downstream, as upstream had almost no change).

Strengths: improved reception, simple installation, good tech support

Weakness: only can support 3 outlet

i bought this to improve cable reception. have 4 cable outlet in house. i used a 4-way splitter, 3 outlets showed dramatic improved reception and 1 outlet still grainy. tried to switch cable placement on the splitter but still can only support up to 3 outlet. called tech support they said booster only supports 1 outlet and by using a splitter will degrade the siganal. suggested another motorola booster with 4 way splitter and gave me the product number BDA-100S4 but still unavailable.

Strengths: Ease of installation. Works great at improving signal.

Weakness: None that I have seen.

We recently got high speed internet service and were having trouble gaining access on our 2nd computer in the network. After installing the Motorola Signal Booster we have plenty of signal to run the network as well as remarkable reception in the Cable TV picture. I just purchased a second one this week for the television in the basement. The cable had been split a number of time and signal was poor in the basement. Now the picture is much cleared and problems are solved. I would highly recommend this product, although it would be nice if the cable company would do what they are suppose to so you don't need additional signal boosters.

Strengths: cheap,easy to install,works with pay-per-view,actually works

Weakness: rf cable ends are not well made, should have outside installation application

Overall the product as purchased from your website was a good value, considering that the list price for most stores was twice your cost. The cable ends fell apart when they were tightened. Currently have 5 TVs and one cable modem hooked up with the booster and so far the booster seems to be doing the job.

Strengths: Does the job

Weakness: No detailed instructions

I was trying to boost my broadband signal and split the cable to my computer and TV. I discovered that this worked only if I put the splitter first - then put the amplifier between the splitter and the computer.

Strengths: Good build quality

Weakness: expensive

I bad snowy pictures on some channels (70 ~ 80) from my analog cable. After intalling the motorola signal booster, it's much better. Still not perfect, but definitely better. I also tried a $31 radioshak booster, it works too, but not as well as this motorola one. I also tried it on my Silver Sensor antena, hoping to boost my over-the-air HDTV reception. But it doesn't work. I live in downtown Chicago. The multipath problem is the main cause of bad reception, not weak signal. So buy it only if you are dealing with weak signal. An odd thing is that it uses an RF cable for power supply. I guess it makes lower noise. But is it necessary to waste a RF cable?

Strengths: Very easy to setup. It's basically idiot proof.

Weakness: Improvement not worth the price.

I set this up on my tv expecting a decent improvement. I was experiencing some graininess on several channels (I have about 70 channels). There was a noticeable improvement on about 5. The remaining stayed at or near the same quality. I don't have a cable modem so I can't review how it affects their improvement. Had this been priced around $15-20, it would have been worth it. The normal asking price between $40-$80 I feel is way too much (at least for the results I received).

Strengths: Improves cable signals for long runs and splits

Weakness: Unfortunately, cable channels with poor signal gets even worse when amplified

We have six televisions in our house, three upstairs, two in the first floor and one in the basement. Original cable installation was for one TV only on the first floor. I then used a 6-way splitter and long cable runs to connect all our TVs to cable. The picture quality of the TVs upstairs and in the basement were a bit snowy. I installed the Motorola Signal Booster at the source where the cable first enters our house and it improved the picture in all our TVs. Not perfect though as there are some cable channels with dirty signal which when amplified gets even worse.

Strengths: Extremely easy to install.

Weakness: As far as I could tell, you would need to buy and install multiple boosters to service other equipment in your house. If that's not the case, the instructions were not clear on how to accomplish.

My TV was receiving extremely bad reception- probably due to the extensive cable that runs throughout my house (it's a 4,000 sq foot house) the TV that was getting terrible reception was at the far opposite side of my cable source. Once the booster was installed it did fix this problem, so I highly recommend this product!

Strengths: Easy to install. Improves cable picture quality immensely.

Weakness: Expensive unless bought over the Internet.

Back in September when we had the cable company come out to install our cable modem for high speed Internet, they added a 3 way splitter outside to accommodate the digital/analog line coming in to our family room, the digital/analog line coming in to our bedroom after about a 50 foot run of cable, and the new cable modem line. The fast Internet has been fantastic, but the analog signal on numerous stations in the bedroom had been degraded to the point where some of the channels had diagonal, parallel lines running through them. I tried many combinations of things at first to correct this which included taking off my A/B switch that was bringing my two lines (I split the line coming into my TV in the bedroom so I can watch one thing and tape another) back into one to the TV. It was at this point I stumbled on to bi-directional signal boosters. After much research I was convinced that the answer was the Motorola Signal Booster, but it's price was $80 at Circuit City. After doing some Internet searching I was able to get it new from a company, BCD2000, over the Internet for $41 and shipping. Even after the reviews I was skeptical that it would work. I am skeptical no more. I hooked this baby up and all of my analog channels look fantastic in the bedroom and I once again have my A/B switch hooked up with no degradation problem at all. I am tempted to hook it up to the family room TV and then split the line back to the bedroom to see if both TV's could benefit from this. The analog channels that had the lines in them look almost digital quality now or in other words as good as analog can look. The bottom line is that the Motorola Signal Booster is a must when splitting your analog cable line in numerous directions.

Strengths: Ease of installation and improved picture quality.

Weakness: No significant impact on broadband bandwidth.

Started to have picture quality problems because of the number of splitters throughout the house. Also had intermittent drops with broadband service. It resolved both issues, including a significant improvement in picture quality, but did not improve broadband bandwidth.

Strengths: Improved picture quality.

Weakness: Not much improvement found in broadband service.

I purchased this in hope that it will solve the intermittent loss of siganl problem for my cable modem. It has reduced the frequency but not completely solved the problem. Picture quality of the TV improved as expected.

Strengths: Ease of hook up. Small power supply easy to fit in tight home network boxes. Great signal. Strong construction. Motorola quality. Power supply is connected via coax so longer connection can be made.

Weakness: Quality of coax provided w/ unit is best used in the trash can. Caused signal loss. Used cheapo to hookup power supply.

Good results. Would recommend to anyone w/ cable or other coax hookups to try if signal loss over long runs or multiple taps is a problem.

Strengths: EASY TO USE AND INSTALL

Weakness: HAVEN'T SEEN ANY YET

PROVIDES STRONG SIGNAL, THE CHANNELS NO LONGER FREEZE. PROVIDES BETTER PICTURE QUALITY. IT IS EASY TO INSTALL AND USE. THE PRICE OF THE PRODUCT IS VERY REASONABLE COMPARED TO PLACES LIKE CIRCUIT CITY WHICH CHARGES ABOUT $20 MORE.

Strengths: Easy to assemble/install.

Weakness: None.

Purchased in anticipation of chasing "ghosts" from long runs of Comcast cable. Didn't appear to do much. Must be a Comcast problem. Perhaps the unit would be more valuable to someone with digital cable.

Strengths: Well made. Easy to install and use.

Weakness: One of the coax cables broke when I attached it to the booster. Fortunately I had extras.

This unit was purchased to replace an existing booster from Radio Shack. The RS unit was an older unit that had one input and four outputs. The signal strength seemed to be ok so I felt satisfied with the results. After changing from DSL to cable modem, I decided to get a amplifier/booster that would be compatible with cable modem service. After installing the booster the cable modem showed no improvement. I felt that it was probably as good as I would expect with tests from DSLREPORTS. The video quality has improved where I get much clearer reception. I ended up using a 1-to-4 splitter that was compatible with cable modem service. I almost bought the booster from a retail store for $100. Using PriceGrabber I paid about half that (including shipping). Thanks PriceGrabber!

Strengths: Little box greatly improved internet cable connectivity and performance.

I had a problem maintaining internet cable connectivity. I had a pretty long run of cable with two splits inbetween. This product boosted the signal so that I finally had a reliable connection and faster web surfing. Excellent product for the money. I am going to buy another for my cable tv since I have 6 televisions in the house and numerous splits.
