Philips SRU4105/27
3 Star Review  productwiki.com - Dec 7, 2008

The Philips SRU4105/27 is a universal remote capable of controlling up to 6 different devices. Features the ability to save up to 10 of your favourite channels with easily programmable icons, there is no manual or device codes needed due to the remotes ability to automatically search for other equipment you own. Features 49 button remote icon programming for 10 channels ready to use with Philips A/V equipment, and the ability to automatically search for others powered by 2 AAA alkaline batteries ... PROS: (1) extremely inexpensive (2) really easy to use ... CONS: (1) uses AAA batteries (2) fairly basic

Philips Remote
1 Star Review

Strengths: Good concept but.....

Weakness: .....poor execution. The learning feature seems to have a severe limit on how many commends it will hold. Once it reaches that limit it freezes up.

The thing wouldn't even hold all ten numbers for my Comcast digital adapter box. Avoid unless all you want is an on-off switch.

A Truly Universal Remote
5 Star Review   By member houghtonsnow - May 22, 2009

Strengths: Controls up to 5 different devices, favorites buttons, learning capability, good range.

Weakness: Buttons are not very responsive.

This remote has replaced my TV remote, satellite DVR remote, receiver remote and DVD player remote all together. - Favorites buttons. Just pressing one button the remote will send the favorite channel number. - Setting volume controls to any mode. So I can adjust the volume of the receiver while switching TV channels. - IR learning from another remote is very helpful. - Good range and great battery life too.

Good remote in the 80s
2 Star Review   By member mozillafirefix - Dec 5, 2008

Strengths: It works if proper device codes are identified

Weakness: Difficult to find the working device code; Buttons not very responsive

I always wanted to have a universal remote control but its high price always made me wonder if it is worth to buy one given that remotes are always free with my electronics purchase. Well, this $10 universal remote is my fist purchase just because its low price. And I regretted to waste that $10. Although it claims to work on Philips electronics out-of-box, I found the factory default settings are good just to turn on/off my Philips LCD TV, switch channels, and turn up/down volumes, then nothing else. It took me about one hour to try different "device code" just to make the "Input" button work (the one which switches TV-AV1-AV2-... etc video sources). And I could never make other essential buttons like "Widescreen format", "Menu" and "CC" work. The learning function, if not defective, works in a funny matter in the sense that I'll have to press the same (learnt) button for twice before I can get the same effect as from the original remote. Oh well, this remote may be a good product in 1980s. but it simply does not catch up with the time.

A nice universal remote
5 Star Review   By member sudhakar_parsi - Oct 31, 2008

Strengths: Very Easy to setup. controls up to 5 different devices works with more than 325 brands

Weakness: Missing LCD display. But that is fine given the price we are paying for it.

I recently purchased this new Universal remote from newegg com. I pretty much started addicted to this remote. Its simply superb. Allows you to operate up to 5 different devices, from most electronic brands on the market. (325 + brands). Very easy to setup. I was able to configure my TV, VCR and DVD players in 5 minutes. Most important feature I liked in this remote is you can quickly get to 10 of your favorite channels with a single click by placing a sticker on it (stickers are included)

Good Remote
4 Star Review   By member softball18104 - Oct 26, 2008

Strengths: favorites buttons

Weakness: no LCD, small volums/channel up/down buttons

This remote is exactly what I have been looking for. The biggest feature is that it has 10 preset favorite channel buttons. You just program the channel number into one of the spots and it remembers them. You then place a sticker ( included ) onto the space next to the button and you can quickly get to 10 of your favorite channels. Mt TV uses channels such as 68-4, 77-8, 103-4, etc, so it is nearly impossible to remember combinations like that. This remote does. There is no LCD on the unit. I thought there was. They include stickers of hundreds of channels that you can place next to your favorite buttons. Also, the channel and volume up/down buttons are a bit small and takes some getting used to. Overall, a good remote for the price.
