Sanyo PLV-Z5 Home Theater Video Projector
5 Star Review  projectorcentral.com - Oct 13, 2006

Not many projectors warrant a rating of five stars across the board. Even on high quality performers we can usually find some flaw or design limitation that causes us to knock down the rating in one or more categories. However, there is no justification for rating the PLV-Z5 any less than the full five stars. For a price of just $1,695 including a three year warranty, the buyer gets an extensive feature set, stellar image performance, and one of the best values in home theater projectors we've ever seen.

Sanyo PLZ-V5
5 Star Review   By member blownrx7 - Jan 15, 2007

Strengths: EASY setup. Great, clear picture. Easy to adjust throw distance and size

Weakness: None so far.

This is pretty much plug and play. After messing with a Denon receiver for a couple of hours, it was a pleasure to confront the Sanyo and have it work (and quite nicely) on the first shot. The picture is crystal clear and the colors are very true. I am using a DVI to HDMI connection btw. I'm only projecting on a white piece of photo paper for the moment until I decide the size screen I want. Still, the colors look very good. I was looking to go to a smaller screen size based on the various recommendations for my viewing distance, but even if I go WAY BIGGER than I am supposed too, the picture STILL looks amazingly clear with excellent contrast and without graininess! I may be smitten because this is my first projector but I went to enough high-end stereo stores and auditioned the behemoth Sony's and Ben Q's along with InFocusand others of that ilk and the technology has just reached a point where you don't have to break the bank to have a GREAT projector and this Sanyo leads the pack. I considered the Panasonic PT-AE100 but did not need the extra lumens (and extra expense) since I have a totally light-controlled room. I always associated the Sanyo brand with cut-rate electronics but this unit certainly is NOT and just for good measure it has an industry leading 3-year warranty! Highly recommended!

Excellent picture, easy setup
5 Star Review   By member ps2pg - Dec 27, 2006

Strengths: sharp picture and good contrast. Easy adjustments.

Weakness: Adjustable feet only in front. If the actual screen is belowthe projector and lens shift is not sufficient (e.g. mount below the ceiling), you may need to put something below the back feet.

I use the the Sanyo PLV-Z5 in the living room, about 12 feet away from the screen, behind the seats. Excellent results. The remote even works when pointed towards the screen, that is in the opposite direction of the projector. The usage of the features through the remote is very intuitive. It has some nice features like capturing your own startup logo, but haven't explored all features so far.
