Most Bang for the Buck!!
4 Star Review   By member chiefdeputy911 - Feb 14, 2007

Strengths: Lots of input options with 2HDMI ports. Great menu system. Excellent Picture. Good viewing range for DLP TV.

Weakness: Remote could be backlit.

This is definitely a cosmetically and aesthetically pleasing contemporary looking HDTV. Very easy to set up. This DLP HDTV is highly recommended; do not hesitate to purchase. In my opinion; The Most Bang for the Buck!!!

Review of Samsung 46
2 Star Review   By member cadillact - Jan 23, 2007

Strengths: Lots of inputs and nice to use when playing consoles games since it has a special game mode. Nice HD picture and great to use in bright rooms since it has a 2 brightness settings for the dlp lamp.

Weakness: Upconvert 480i to 720P. My tv had a slight geometry error on a 4:3 picture the lower part of the screen was about half an inch narrower than the top.

First I wanted to say that this tv is the bedroom TV and not my primary TV. If it was my primary tv I wouldnt have been buying. I have cox cable and HD channels and wathing DVD in 720P is great. As for standard content 480i either in analog of digital is not that good. If i set my cable box to output 720P for Standard definition content its looks worse on the tv than letting the tv do the conversion to 720P. SO I let the box output 480i and then the tv do the conversion. Even then I'm not satisfied with the picture quality. My Sony CRT RPTV outshines this tv by lightyears when it comes to displaying 480i since MY CRT can displays this without converting the picture. I'm not an average "joe" when it comes to tv. I have had my CRT tv calibrated by a pro. For example my wife cant see any of the flaws that I see. She cant even see the geometry error. I dont know if I will call samsung to have them send a tech out since it still under warranty, but probably I will. The converted SD content looks blocky, fussy and smeary. I dont really have any other word to say about it. My friend have exactly the same tv so I knew what I was going to get minus the geometry error. So for the price and HD and upconverted dvd content it was a good buy in my mind. Its the biggest tv that I can fit in the armoir and still have enough clearance for ventilation. I use component input and not HDMI and I'm going to try HDMI to see if that reduces the error or not. So I give it 2 stars as it is not without the error I would have given it 3. Next time I will not purchase a 720P tv but a 1080i or 1080P since prices are coming down on these models(to fit my budget) on the same size as this tv.

Great size. Great price. Great brand.
4 Star Review   By member nedburlesonii - Nov 28, 2006

Strengths: Good price.

Weakness: Does not cook popcorn very well.

Samsung products are increasingly one of the top products in many product lines, like Sony was supposed to be while I was growing up. The products are less expensive than most comparable products. Most of the DLP TVs I have seen have good pictures and enough inputs to allow most components to hook-up. This one is no exception.

Nice features for an intermediate size HDTV.
4 Star Review   By member stperona - Nov 13, 2006

Strengths: HDMI input, lots of inputs, 720p, Game mode, & easy setup

Weakness: No digital cable card reader

I replaced a Sony 32" CRT with this model. I picked a size comparable in height. I didn't want a five foot wide television for every room. Superb features and 720p resolution. Game mode for my kid's gaming. Extra inputs for everything imaginable. The setup was simple. I'd love to see 1080p but the sub $1250 price makes up the difference. The size is great for smaller rooms. Don't spend $3000 for other sets in the size range, buy this one.

Great Valued Large Screen TV
4 Star Review   By member eagle05l - Sep 26, 2006

Strengths: Versatile, excellent picture quality, large number of easily assessable input options, intuitive on-screen menu, excellent picture quality, light weight, compact, quiet, smart and effective packaging

Weakness: Spotty quality control (TV required some tweaking before getting it to work, see more in Comments below), remote control buttons too small and hard to identify at a glance

The unit is well-built, well-packaged and quite stylish. Set-up was easy with its auto channel search and easy to use on-screen menu. Copies of the quick reference guide and full menu are available for download at the Samsung site. Here is the detail on my ‘Quality Control’ comment under ‘Weaknesses’ - This particular unit was having problem fresh out of the box. It (basically the lamp) would not stay on for more than 5 seconds upon plugging in the AC cord. After numerous attempts in resetting it (plugging and unplugging the AC cord) without success, I finally had to consult the ‘Problem Diagnostics’ section of the manual. Based on the flashing pattern of the indicator lights on the front panel, the problem was indicated as an improperly aligned lamp compartment door. Looked for the compartment door in the back and it felt secure with 4 Philips screws. Took a gamble and opened up the compartment door and noticed a small contact switch. I actually got the set to stay on after playing with the switch for a while. Did not want to press my luck and carefully closed and secured the compartment door while making sure the set still stayed on. I am quite sure the switch is still faulty since it was allowing the set to stay on with the compartment door open (basically defeating the safety feature). I may call for Samsung service to get the switch check-out/replaced while the set is still under warranty. So far, the set has been performing beautifully with no further issue. Overall Rating would have been 5 stars if I didn’t have to play technician.

Buy this TV.
5 Star Review   By member sandbox711 - Sep 7, 2006

Strengths: Picture Quality, Price, looks, quality. 2500:1 Contrast Ratio

Weakness: - Only one HDMI port - PIP only works with a seperate cable input (If you have digital cable you can only look at PIP from an analog channel - Cant hang on a wall (who cares!)

Lets just say that this is the first time in my life I was so happy with a large purchase that I decided to write a review online. So here it is: After searching stores and reviews for 6 months I purchased this TV from circuit city. This TV always stood out for its superb picture quality when compared to the hundreds of other LCD and plasma TV's. I was constantly torn between the thinness of LCD's and Plasmas vs. the picture of the DLP Samsungs. Then it hit me. Why the hell do I need this TV on the wall? At 13" deep, its like the thickness of my toasted oven. So the samsung came home with me. Oh my and what a beautiful TV it is. Right out of the box. Regular TV looks good, but HDMI made me almost lose it right there. If you buy this tv you must upgrade to HD or its not even worth it. It will change your life. Also, one of the good things about DLP is that the bulb needs to be replaced probably every few years. Good you say? Wouldn't that be bad? I don't think so. That means you get a brand new TV pretty much every couple of years for about $200. LCD and plasma are trash once they get a dead pixel. But this Tv. You'll be glad you did.

So far this is an excellent choice
4 Star Review   By member ahipp - Aug 18, 2006

Strengths: Picture quality, size, weight, look and feel

Weakness: None found yet

I had a 30 inch wide screen HD CRT TV. I don't care about the LCD/Plasma hype, CRT offers the best picture quality in HD. The problem is the sets are huge/heavy and the 30 inch screen was too small for the space. I just couldn't justify the amount of money for an LCD. A good friend suggested DLP and I could live with the price. So far I love it! It looks like it was made for the space I have it in. The picture is excellent. I'll let the propeller heads worry about LCD vs. DLP while I enjoy the football season!

Great Picture and Price
5 Star Review   By member webclick - Aug 6, 2006

Strengths: Amazing picture, color and clarify is superb, 2 component inputs, size and weight, price

Weakness: remote control

The DLP technology is a perfect step up for anyone that wants to upgrade to HDTV but not pay the price for a plasma. I am very pleased with this TV, the picture is so clear on regular and HDTV channels just with component cables. The 46" size is big enough, I was considering the 51" but for $400 more it did not seem worthwhile and was concern that analog signal picture may not be as clear. This is a great buy and with prices continuing to go down it is definitely worth the money. The remote is poorly designed but it's so easy to use a universal remote that has an input button to switch between the various inputs. It does take a few seconds to turn on but there's little to complain about as I am very happy with the purchase.

Sweet deal
4 Star Review   By member netboyz - Jul 21, 2006

Strengths: Clearly labeled inputs on the back of the unit; 2 HDMI inputs; Easy to use, intuitive remote; Easy to navigate menu system; Great picture quality

Weakness: Built-in audio speaker quality could be better

This is a fantastic deal! A cosmetically and aesthetically pleasing, very contemporary looking TV. Fantastic picture quality, especially with HD or DVD input. Has a wide angle of viewing as well--something other DLP TV's seem to be missing. Love the matte finish, as it helps to reduce glare. The remote is very intuitive to use, and the menu system is simple to navigate. Speaker quality is average, however. A relative light TV (75 lbs) for its size, too. We bought it with a matching stand and it accents our bedroom amazingly well. Perfect! I highly recommend as it is the best bang for your buck.

Great TV
5 Star Review   By member bigxexay - Jul 16, 2006

Strengths: Amazing picture quality.

Weakness: Built in speakers aren't very good.

Got this great tv recently & am very impressed. Picture quality is fantastic. Hooked up regular "rabbit ears" & am getting digital signals free of snow thanks to the built in HD tuner. DVD looks amazing w/component cable but w/an upconverter dvd player & hdmi cable, picture looks even better. Highly recommended over the Toshiba and Sony brands. As for the bad, the remote really sucks; it is very badly designed. Audio from built in speakers aren't great either, and it's recommended to hook up 5.1 or at least 2.1 speakers.
