5 Star Review   By member uboena - Jul 28, 2006

Strengths: Awesome picture and design no where to put the components but they make a stand that you mount on the wall where you can put all the components. Absolutely marvelous picture

Weakness: takes a while to turn on

I bought this television refurbished and what a deal i got. Bought it with a little hesitation ut wen it came it looked brand new and for 1000 dollars cheaper than it was new locally to me. No complaints the tv is great, Everyone who has been in my house asks me where did i get my tv. Thank you powerseller you guys came through.

Strengths: The widescreen is extremely nice.

Weakness: None.

The stand goes w/ this TV. It is so strong, not that heavy. I love this TV. Great to buy. The picture is so clear. Have many functionality available. Nice to have it.

5 Star Review   By member thesauceman - Apr 21, 2005

Strengths: PICTURE QUALITY! Option to fine tune each individual station, user ability to change out main bulb( no service call), ready to go out of the box, built-in pedestal, touch screen.

Weakness: Viewing in a well lighted room only good directly in front of TV.

I can't get over how incredible the picture is. Well worth the investment. Probably should have gotten the 56" model. Recommend getting the matching Samsung HT1000 Home Theater and component stand.

5 Star Review   By member gblachstein - Feb 15, 2005

Strengths: Awesome picture quality, even on non-HD stations. Great black levels.

Weakness: Cannot use any hi-def inputs for PIP, No front input jacks or media slots, Remote control. Definately requires some calibration.

This TV looks amazing! I ordered it from www.shopsunshine.com for $1000 less than BB and CC. I was afraid at first ordering such an expensive item over the internet, but I had no problems with them what so ever. I use my Xbox as my DVD player and it looks great. The one thing that is totally gay about this tv is that you cannot have the PC input or the other HD inputs in a sub picture.

2 Star Review   By member iceman36 - Feb 15, 2005

Strengths: Picture quality is excellent

Weakness: Audio/video out of sync from home theater

I strongly recommend potential consumers of this product research the "lip sync" problem before you buy it. I wish I had. The issue is most prevalent when running audio/video thru a HTS. Its like watching a badly dubbed movie. You hear dialog before you see the characters speak. The only fix I've heard of is getting a an audio lag function either as a feature to the receiver or as an add-on device. I've heard the add-on devices reduce audio quality so for me its not a viable option. Even if you go with an audio lag, it will need to be adjusted sporadically as the lag changes. Did I mention its not all the time and its worse some times more than others? In all fairness, this may occur with all DLP's and/or other technologies, but I know for a fact it is a problem with the Samsung 5085W. Caveat emptor!

5 Star Review   By member rsegal - Feb 6, 2005

Strengths: Great HD picture. Well designed on-screen menus. Stylish contemporary design. It has it all.

Weakness: The remote.

After a year of research and a visit to the 2005 Consumer Electronics Show, I picked this model. At the show, Samsung displayed prototypes of the next generation 1080p monitors. I asked a representative if I should wait for the new ones or buy the HL-P5085W now. He told me he had a hard time seeing the difference and recomended I buy now. That was the clincher for me. I highly recommend getting the matching stand. It makes the hookups much easier, fits under the monitor and is very well made. I have read that professional calibration will bring out the best picture. Even though I used the Sound&Vision Home Theater Tune-up DVD, I plan to pay for a pro.

4 Star Review   By member nvr2late4 - Jan 27, 2005

Strengths: Design! This design is far ahead of the competition. It is easy to use and set up. The color is vibrant and I had to do very little to do except 'tweak the color'.

Weakness: Compnents.... In order to set your components around the unit (surround sound/DVD, cable box etc.) you need shelves!

I would recommend the purchse of this unit without hesitation. The price is a bit lofty but it is something you appreciate every day you get in front of it. Again the drwback is that your not done spending money there, you'll need to open up the wallet and spend another $400 on the TR-85 shelving unit.

Strengths: HDTV & DVDs picture, all the inputs (HDMI & DVI), look and feel.

Weakness: Remote sucks, regular channels look pretty bad. Not a thin as Toshibas and Mitsubishis DLP's.

The best DLP out there so far. HDTV is great but I wish the regular broadcasts were a little better looking. You need to be about 10 feet away for optimal viewing. Also viewing angles are better then most other DLP, not as good as Plasma of course but better then predecessor DLPs.

Strengths: outatanding HD quality, great design

Weakness: normal digital signal(non HD) is poorer than conventional crt tv

Bought my Sammy from DIGITAL 1234.COM. Saved over $1000.00, also bought the complementrary component stand,TR85 ,saved another $150.00. They said it would take 7-10 days to receive the above, it showed up in 5. There was a weekend in the middle of the 5 !!!. Can't say enough about the Sammy"s Jaw dropping HD quality. My 8 yr old son, hasn't closed his mouth since he first looked at it, nor have I!! I do Film and video editing for a living, and after working a long day in front of a bank of calibrated tv monitors, the Sammy is a welcome departure. Gotta go... there is a huge dinosour in my den about to make my son's jaw drop even further!

5 Star Review   By member dcallen24 - Jan 13, 2005

Strengths: Amazing Color, DLP 4 Generation Chip (HD2+, HD2 Plus), Unique design, 50", HDMI, DVI, and VGA.

Weakness: Might have trouble figuring on where to place your compnents unless you buy the stand. Touch sensitive buttoms on the pedalstal are not very senative. Having to replace the $250 bulb every 3-5 years

I am one of those obsessed individual who will not only go to the store a stare at all the TV's to try and find, "The One", but I will also go and research the electronic components that are inside the TV and read endless reviews/posts. Thankfully my wife has just learned to roll her eyes. Most of the DLP TV's that are currently out (as of 01/05) are using the 3 Generation HD3 Chips. That is not to say they are bad, but they are not equivalent to the 4th Gen or HD2+ chip (which I only saw that Samsung and Toshiba had models using them). DLP chips have 1.3 Million tiny mirrors on a one 1" X 1" chip. They rapidly move on little hinges that reflect the light from the bulb and pass it through the color wheel and then the image is projected onto the screen. This in turn produces a crisp clear picture that has superior color and black levels to any standard rear projection screen. There is one issue, I have read posts of people some times being able to see a rainbow when the glance away from the screen quickly, but I also read only 2% of all people can even see it and very, very few actually get annoyed by it. My wife, parents, friends and I have not seen any rainbow effect with this TV. I also read that the HD2+ (4 Gen) Chips have reduced that occurrence anyway. My friend has a 2 year old Toshiba 52" standard rear projection and the HL-P5085W does circles around it. In the last year I have purchased and returned 7 different televisions because I was unhappy with the quality. I can definitely say that this one is NOT going back!

Strengths: Ease of use in menu's onscreen

Weakness: All inputs are on the rear of unit, and somewhat inaccessable when pushed flush up to wall.

This TV has the capability I was looking for to display HD ready TV as well as non-HD programming. The picture can show flaws in the signal, but by turning off the Dnlie setting, it will "fuzz" out the edges of non-HD programming to give a great picture.

Strengths: Aesthetics. Clarity of picture.

Weakness: Price. Adding DVD/Surround sound equipment breaks aesthetics.

I bought this at Fry's where showing internet prices helped reduce the selling price. The set works great, has all the connections you need from DVI, S-video, HDMI, Component video, etc. Very hiqh quality picture.
