Excellent Bulb Life
4 Star Review   By member Richard0147 - Oct 3, 2009

Strengths: I have 4800 hours on my original bulb and everything is fine. Press "Menu" then "2470" to see hours at lower left of screen. I have cleaned the bulb housing a couple times with compressed air.

Weakness: TV is a bit dim in a bright room, but I knew that before buying it.

I've had this TV three years and have had no trouble at all with my bulb life. I did have the TV serviced on warranty for a faulty overheat condition. This was a blinking yellow light, replaced free of charge.

Mitsubishi WD-65731 65 in. HDTV DLP TV
3 Star Review

Strengths: good picture

Weakness: life of bulb

Now that I've purchased the tv and ordered the bulb the geek squad say it will take 2 weeks for delivery of the bulb! 1 Year Bulb life is unreasonable. Bestbuy or any dealer should be required to state the one or less yr. bulb life before the purchase. I purchased the 65" 1/2007 this is my third bulb to be installed.

Poor Lamp Life - Excellent Picture
3 Star Review

Strengths: Good picture and sound - ok price for the size.

Weakness: Lamp life is unacceptable.

I love the picture quality of the television and the sound is great as well. My concern is: I've had this television for just over a year and have already had 2 lamps go out in it. Luckily the first lamp went out in the forst year and I got a replacement from Mitsubishi under the manufacturer's warranty... Luckily again - I purchased the 5 year extended warranty which includes 1 free lamp. My only concern now is that in 6 months it will be out again and I will have to start paying $250 every six months to get the lamps replaced. This television is only on in the evenings when we get home from work and on the weekends. It's not like it runs all day... therefore I think it is unacceptable that the lamps keep going out so fast. I had a Sony big screen that I purchased 14 years ago and it still works and has NEVER needed a new lamp.

misubishi DLP TV
2 Star Review

Strengths: Great Picture, love the split screen when watching sports.

Weakness: The lamp!!!!! So far I had 2 lamps go out since I purchased the TV last Sept '06, I have been averaging 8 months of life on the lamp.

At a cost of $200-250 plus shipping etc... I could scream when I think I have to spend that EVER YEAR just to replace the lamp. I should have researched the lamp cost prior to buying this DLP because I seriously would reconsidered buying. The sales pitch for dlp over the other hdtv's is it will last 10x longer, but they fail to mention the lamp costs. The original lamp lasted 7 months, the replacement lamp 10 months.

Just TRY to get a lamp replacement when you need it!
2 Star Review   By member BooDeb0822 - Dec 31, 2007

Strengths: Great television for picture quality, etc.

Weakness: I've read other reviews stating 1st lamp went out in 90 days - mine lasted 11 months.....

Not only is the lamp life unacceptable but trying to get a replacement is nearly laughable. Mitsubishi's authorized reps consisted of two businesses in my locality (I don't live a rural area). One is no longer in business, the other didn't have it in stock and had no idea when they would. Of course, my lamp went on a Sunday. Today is New Year's Eve so even Mitsubishi's parts department is closed so their 'customer service' rep couldn't even verify they had one in stock. Ordered lamp on line - you have to follow up with faxed purchase date receipt and a copy of the printed out order before they will ship it. Their shipping policy is 2 day (if they have it in stock). The next shipping day will be Jan 2nd and if in stock I'll get it Jan 4th. So 6 days from time it died and no TV and no other options to get a lamp. This is my first Mitsubishi product and since it is a television, an expensive television, I really believe lamps should shipped via overnight. The rep said he would pass on my suggestions regarding improvement in their customer service. Tried the numerous on line vendors figuring if I could get one I'd just have one on hand when the next burns out - out of stock, out of stock...... Not sure I'd recommend this unit - what good is a television if its lamp life is so short ($250 if not on warranty)? I understand the DLP is relatively new technology but its certainly been around long enough to have decent support by now.

Best Value for Good Quality Big Screen HDTV 1080P
5 Star Review   By member Glenn20 - Jun 29, 2007

Strengths: 1. Excellent DLP picture quality -- comparable to Plasma. 2. Great price for a 65" TV.

Weakness: 1. Only a fixed audio output. No option to switch to variable output. 2. Risky item to have shipped without it being damaged.

If you're reading this review, you have probably been going through the excruciating process of comparing Plasma, LCD and DLP. I personally found the variety of opinions to be confusing and exhausting. Ultimately, I found my two top considerations to be "best picture" and "best price". I looked at many televisions before choosing the WD-65731. I wouldn't say that the picture on this TV is better than a plasma, but it's pretty darn close. The question you have to ask yourself is whether the negligible difference is worth paying two-and-a-half times more money to get a 65" plasma. I'm very happy that I picked this Mitsubishi DLP. The picture is tremendous. Sometimes I feel as if the picture is too clear, because I get distracted when I watch the news and see all the blemishes and make-up on the reporter's face -- stuff I would never see on other televisions. As far as DLP televisions are concerned, this has the best picture out of all the models I looked at. And for a 65", the price was unbeatable. The first TV to be delivered to me ended up being shattered inside. I was fortunate to have bought the TV from a large, reputable merchant who gave me no hassles at all. They sent out another television and picked up the broken one at the same time. Since this is a product review and not a merchant review, I won't go into more detail on this particular aspect, but let me just say -- This is a very large and fragile item, so make sure you buy from someone with a good reputation for customer service and backing up their products. Lastly, the only negative issue I'm struggling with is that I can't run this through my Bose theatre system the same way as I did my previous television. You should always turn the TV speakers off when using a theatre system, but when you do so with this TV, you can no longer use your TV remote or Cable remote for controlling the volume. This is because when you mute the TV speakers, the audio output that is being fed to your sound system remains fixed. Some other televisions allow you to switch to a variable audio output within the setup screen. This TV has no such option. So now I'm stuck using my Bose remote to control the volume and I dislike having to use several remote controls. I have a Bose that uses only an RF signal, so I'm unable to program my other remotes to run it. That would be my only downside to this TV. Overall, I rate this television with 5 stars due to the high quality picture and excellent price. It's a great value for the money.

5 Star Review   By member merrimac - Apr 10, 2007

Strengths: Sharp image, excellent color

Weakness: Channel change is very slow

Just bought the TV last week and I love it. The QAM tuner picks up many unscrambled HD channels (I don't have digital cable). The HD picture is simply amazing, much clearer and sharper than the DVD. The SD image is good, too. I watched a NBA game last Sunday and it was like I was sitting in the stadium. I can even hear all kinds of sound coming from the field, as well as the audience. Also watched a hockey game and it was the first time that I can see clearly the small hockey moving around the field from a TV screen. It took a me a while to get the HDMI to work. I didn't know to turn on the HDMI in my DVD player, initially. The TV's manual should tell the user to do so. I found this by searching the internet. Some complained noisy fan or color wheel. Yes, I can hear it when the TV is mute and the room is quiet. But it's very small and doesn't bother me. It's very sluggish to change a channel. It takes a good 2 seconds to change, no mater a HD channel or a regular channel. And I don't have a set box or a cableCard. The cable is directly connected to the TV.

Strengths: Excellent picture; easy to program

Weakness: Burned a lamp in ninety days from purchase

Everything everybody else says about this TV is true. Excellent picture; easy to program; etc. My big disappointment was the lamp life. Burned a lamp in just over ninety (90) days from TV purchase. Yeah, sure, it's on a good twelve (12) hours a day, seven days a week. No excessive turning on and off; good ventilation; etc, all the things they prescribe. Let's see how long the second lamp lasts.

5 Star Review   By member shyus - Jan 21, 2007

Strengths: Price, size, connections, HD, DLP

Weakness: slow warm up

This is the TV, price, quality, on and on, hands down the best. Easy remote that controls everything, including my Bose system. The price and quality as compared to Plasma, is indistigushable. I purchase a plasma and the picture is terrible on dark movies. Thius one is brilliant and there is never any glare. Watched 007 swimming in the ocean, and felt I was in the ocean with him. Would have rather purchaed the 73" model, but for $1k more didnt understand the increase, happy with this model. I like the most is two CATV jacks, the remote is simple. I luv it!!

4 Star Review   By member dale7d - Dec 26, 2006

Strengths: Great Color with HD channels and most DVDs'.

Weakness: Sound and display of non HD Channel, could be better.

The quality of receiving the HD Channel is great, I love the colors. When hooked up to cable TV with high definitions box and subscription the picture on the screen looks like it is coming into your living room. Watching your favorite sporting event(s) in high definition on this TV is a real eye opener. If you enjoy playing games on your XBox or Playstation you are going to enjoy what you see and it is really awesome. Mitsubishi a great quality product , this TV is amazingly light for it size and its technology is far advance compared it competitors. I definitely recommend that you try this product for yourself, go ahead and take one home today you will love it.

Mitsubishi 1080p 65"DLP TV
5 Star Review

Strengths: Superb resolution, excellent color and contrast, good brightness.

Weakness: In high speed scenes, such as in sports, there appears to be some slight distortion of movement. Barely perceptible, and only when watching HD (live) sports.

Overall, I'm delighted with the TV. As previously noted, the color, contrast, resolution, and brightness are outstanding; as they should be in a HDTV. I've read other reviews where the sound quality was deemed to be somewhat inferior; however I don't share this view. The sound was fine; however all movies should be routed through a surround sound system for superior effect. The multiple input/output connections are very useful, especially when using HDMI cables.

Best picture I've seen
5 Star Review

Strengths: Gorgeous picture. Also has split screen ( the equivalent of two 27 inch tv's side by side---

Weakness: since it's DLP, you wait for the lamp

This is the best TV I've seen, even plasma at twice the expense. You would not get a better tv spending thousands more. It also has a better warrenty

Mitsubishi WD65731 Amazing TV Great Picture
5 Star Review   By member Tahoen4u - Aug 17, 2006

Strengths: Picture Quality, Remote, Functionality, Inputs

Weakness: The blacks are almost too black when sitting in a dark room and the movie is mostly black and grey.

This TV is amazing the picture quality is second to none. When hooked up to cable tv with high defintion box and subscription the picture on the screen looks like it is coming into your living room. Watching a football game on this tv in HD is something to see. You will not be disapointed with this unit at all. Playing video games on an xbox 360 or any other type of gaming system there is no lag and the picture quality is awesome. Buy the set get it home and let the viewing begin. All I can say is you wont be disapointed.
