InFocus Play Big IN72 480p DLP Projector
4 Star Review  projectorcentral.com - Jun 28, 2006

The InFocus Play Big IN72 is the newest entry-level projector in the InFocus product line, and is designed to replace the Screenplay 4805. It is a major step beyond the SP-4805 and it does not disappoint. It produces a beautiful, bright picture with well saturated color, suitable for DVD movies, video games, and other 480-line content. While its performance with High-Definition content isn't as impressive as other 480p units, it is also brighter than those other models. And at street prices now reaching the $999 mark, the IN72 will ensure that InFocus continues to enjoy a significant share of the entry level home theater projector market.

great image, poor functionality (computers)
2 Star Review   By member ajpietr - Apr 4, 2007

Strengths: the projector has great picture quality and a low noise output.

Weakness: computer hookup is impossible

I love the projector itself, it has great picture quality and a low noise output. I am very disappointed with it's non-ability to be hooked up to a computer using a VGA for better quality. yes, you can hook up an s-viedo cord, but I don't have an output s-viedo so i had no way of using my computers high graphics on the HD projector. I was disappointed with hooking up by using my computers VGA port, and converting it to the m1-da dvi port on the back of the projector. After spending $60 for the conversion piece, and $20 for a transition piece from dvi-d to VGA to still not having it work. I was very frustrated. overall the projector is great, but not for a computer set up.

For the price its downright amazing
4 Star Review   By member momomchine - Feb 22, 2007

Strengths: price, image quality, hdmi input

Weakness: only 1 composite video input, unit gets REALLY hot, not hd

I have only been using this for a week but so far I love it. I got it on Woot for $600 with a $200 rebate. I hooked up my DVD player through HDMI and my Playstation 1 through composite to it. I am projecting onto a wall (not a screen) and movies & games look great anyway. I am annoyed that there is only 1 composite video input because I wanted to hook up my old Sega Dreamcast too. Oh well. One last important note: Despite the HDMI input its NOT an HD projector; it displays only up to 480p, not 720p or 1080p. So if you have an XBOX 360, Playstation 3, HD-DVD or Blu-Ray player look elsewhere. That being said, there is a noticeable improvement in image quality when using HDMI instead of composite even for standard definition dvd's.

Strengths: quality

Weakness: price...can get for 399.00 599.00 through the company

EVERYONE SHOULD OWN THIS PODUCT..problem is now i have to get some movie seats with cup holders lol. The very best thing to do is determine a blackout room, get a retractable screen and use the projector for computer, movies, games not lifetime. So i retract the screen and watch my 32" for regular programs. 12" away is the best...96" image...most beutiful images yopd

Infocus IN72 Projector Review
4 Star Review   By member chongtay - Nov 29, 2006

Strengths: Bright Excellent Picture Lower Fan Noise

Weakness: Size Appearance Color No Lense Cap

I brought this projector to replace an Infocus projector SP4805. First, I have a better movie watch experience due to its lower fan noise; I can now concentrated more on the movie rather then being distracted by the fan. Secondly, the picture it display is vivid and bright, and I don't experience any Screen Door Effect on this projector. However, there are some minor thing that I don't like about this projector: I don't like its bigger size and appearance and color, they looks like a toy for little kid. In addition, the projector does not come with a lens cap, so I have to wipe the dust off the lens sometimes. Overall, this is an excellent projector at a good price ($699), I would recommend this projector because of its excellent picture and lower fan noise.

4 Star Review   By member bearjanet - Oct 1, 2006

Strengths: Excellent picture quality. Stylish. Very quiet compared to Infocus 4805

Weakness: A little too big

Overall a very good quality DLP projector. Long lamp hour. Comcast HD channels look stunning on my 76" screen. A little too big for a home projector but it is very quiet. I love this projector

Great projector at an affordable price!
4 Star Review   By member shrivasd - Sep 19, 2006

Strengths: This is a great projector, not really entry level and has a lot of features at the price. The projection on a wall is good quality too so you dont have to buy a screen seaparately.

Weakness: The only weakness i could find was the keynote setting if projecting top down from a height - the settings are okay.

Overall a good projector to watch movies on your home theatre - I got this at a good promotional price too and the features are good enough. There are better models available in the LCD range but they come at a steep price too. Recommended to buy!

Great Projector!
5 Star Review   By member rivercool23 - Sep 13, 2006

Strengths: (1) Really impressive pictures; (2) Very convenient to use; (3) Price is relatively atractive;

Weakness: Not so many choices for the connection; a little bit noisy

With this stylish projector, it is really easy to turn your living room to a real theatre. After using it for almost one month, I'm still very happy with the quality. Well, as somebody else said, I'm a little bit worried about the replace of the bulb, which might not be cheap. But considering the life of this bulb about ~3000hrs, it is too early to say replacement... Again, I recommend this projector and its affordable price.

5 Star Review   By member wjarcher - Sep 11, 2006

Strengths: great video(hd, dvd) quality, easy to set up

Weakness: none so far, only concern is that how long the expensive bulb is going to last

This is one of the best affordable projectors in the market. It has a great video quality, i used it to watch dvd movies and I can say that it is definitely awesome. It also has HDMI input, so if you have comcast, i strongly recommend it because they will give you the cable along with the receiver. I have not tested how it is to play xbox games on it, but I am sure it will be fantastic considering the quality it presents when playing the dvd. I cannot believe that you can buy a projector less than $1000 which rivals those office projectors that cost more than $3000. The fan noise is negligible. You won't regret buying it.

Strengths: Bright picture, swivel stand, zoom/focus dials, Excellent price, Nice sleek black case

Weakness: few non standard peripheral interfaces like USB to PC or DVI

Ready to entertain you, out of the box projector. This being the first projector for us i am very happy with it till date. It is a beautiful little projector which was can place on a table top with the swivel base. The picture is quite bright with well saturated color. Loved watching DVD movies on it and/or playing video games. As someone mentioned before that the lamp replacement is quite expensive at the moment. The good thing is that it has long lamp life and hopefully by the time this lamp dies i can afford to buy a new projector. Over all we are very happy with this purchase

in72
2 Star Review

Strengths: good picture

Weakness: customer service

Wait time to reach tech support or customer service by phone averages 45 minutes (I speak from experience!). Don't be fooled into taking the offer to leave a message instead of waiting....calls are NEVER returned. The head of Customer Service is never available as she is always "traveling". Tech support's final effort, when they either cannot diagnose or correct a problem, is an offer to trade in and upgrade to a better machine....at a substantially higher cost to you. As a savvy consumer, you'll do better price-wise almost anywhere else online than the InFocus Store, whose prices are 10-20% higher than any other online distributor on the in72 and most other models.

Strengths: Great picuture, quiet, bright. Good black

Weakness: special dvi cable needed. Warranty only 1 year.

Great projector for movies!
4 Star Review   By member gsowa - Aug 29, 2006

Strengths: Bright, great color depth, dark blacks, crisp whites

Weakness: DVI requires special cable as the plug is slightly larger than regular DVI

I bought this projector to use in my mobile DJ events for showing music videos and photo slideshows of the event (by hooking up to my MacBook Pro's DVI output. The projector does a great job of projecting on walls and projector screens and is nice and bright. The colors seem to be perfect and the blacks are nice and dark. I have used this projector in my back yard as well to have an outdoor movie night with my friends. With a DVD player hooked up to the component input this projector produced an awesome picture. I felt like I was at the drive-in! All in all, I would highly recommend this projector to anyone.

My First Buy, great projector
5 Star Review   By member s_sukhani - Aug 29, 2006

Strengths: 1) Awesome picture quality, even under 2 75 watts lamp the projection was bright. 2) Very quiet, no humming from the fan 3) Cool design.

Weakness: 1) No USB interface for PC connection, would love that, but not exactly a weakness.

Great affordable product for movies with sleek design and awesome picture quality. I bought this like 10 days back, have watched quite a few movies, even with divx's the quality have been very good. The projector is ready to go, just power it, and connect to the source. The menu is very easy to navigate. + the remote has a blue lighted buttons which can be turned on or off for easy access . Would highly recommend it, and for the price its going around ($600-$700) its is very affordable.

nice home use projector
5 Star Review   By member leopardli - Aug 22, 2006

Strengths: vivid color, easy connection

Weakness: none so far

Bought this projector for home usage. I basically use it to watch DVD movie and HDTV. The color is very vivid and it can support up to 11 feet length. You need a big screen or a big wall. The life of the lamp is long, 3000 hours. Suppose you watch movie with it 3 hours a day, you can have this projector for 3 years.

Excellent first projector
5 Star Review   By member camoxb - Aug 2, 2006

Strengths: Excellent picture, screen size up to (rated) 165 inches, digital inputs, great price

Weakness: None so far, little weary about bulb replacement

This is my first projector purchase, so I can't really compare it to anything. However, I am completely satisfied with it. I was able to purchase this projector for $700 including tax after rebates and price matches. This is a DLP projector, with a set of component, HDMI, S-video, and DVI inputs. The bulb is rated at 3000 hours. I looked into bulb prices, and at the moment, Circuit City sells a replacement bulb for $388. Out of the box, the projector is ready to go. Just plug it into the wall, and plug in a source. I first tested the projector with my DVD player. I would recommend using component connection or HDMI when viewing DVDs, not composite. To me at least, there is a huge difference between the quality of the image when using component. I have this projector sitting in my closet on top of a drawer about 13.5 feet from my wall. It produces an 88" diagonal image at 1.1x zoom. The projector has a manual zoom dial to make the image smaller or larger, and a manual focus. The projector takes maybe 20 second to fully warm-up. I don't have a screen yet, so I project on my wall where the picture is still stunning. It really is a different experience to watch a movie at home on a projector instead of a TV. Pair it up with a good home theater system, and a bag of popcorn and your good to go. Picture is bright and color are vibrant. Fan on projector is barely audible especially if you are watching a movie. To achieve the best picture, of course, all the lights need to be off and the room needs to be dark. However, the picture still looks great with room lights dimmed. I have tried my gamecube and n64 on this projector, and again, it looks great. I have not tried the projector to watch television yet. Remote control is sleek and is blue backlighted and easy to understand. Overall, I would recommend this projector to everyone. Everyone wants to comeover and watch movies or play games on it!
