REMOTE IS BAD PLAYER IS GOOD
2 Star Review   By Kooky486 on Sony - Official Store - Jan 27, 2012

This player is ok not great. Upside, It's light weight, great battery . Down side. You have to go into "OPTIONS" every time and change the screen format to get a full picture. The remote has no on/off button and isn't laid out very well. Needs to have a 10"+ screen. I replaced a 6 year old Philips PET1030 that was by far better than the Sony, unfortunately they stopped making them. I'll purchase something else next time.

Great Christmas present
5 Star Review   By Greeny on Sony - Official Store - Dec 27, 2011

This player has a long 6 hour life. The screen is better than most other portable players but not as good as some tablet screens. I like the touch strip for controls over push buttons. Sound is not loud but clean. It has a composite video out with special included cable as well as line in. Remote is big considering it is for a tiny player but laid out nicely. I would have liked more video input formats than just AVI and MPG. It wont play most of my MPG files since the resolution is often higher than 750x480. It does not play any Apple formatted video or audio. It reads Dane, Sandisk, Lexar and other flash drives beside Sony micro Vault but it is probably easier to just record AVI files onto a DVD and play them. I can have up to 6 two hour movies on one DVD in AVI (640x360)

4 Star Review   By THEREVEREND on Sony - Official Store - Dec 4, 2011

THE CONTROLS ARE TOO CLOSE TOGETHER ON IT - SO YOU NEED TO USE THE REMOTE AND THE REMOTE DOES NOT LAST - MY PLAYER IS GOOD BUT CANNOT FIND A WAY TO CONTACT THEM TO BUY A NEW REMOTE... BIG DOWNSIDE -- MAY HAVE TO BUY A WHOLE NEW PLAYER JUST BECAUSE THE REMOTE WENT OUT!!!

The Best In It's Class
5 Star Review   By mikeatsu on Sony - Official Store - Jun 25, 2011

The Sony DVP-FX970 is awesome at this price point. Having researched all other comparable players and personally tried out many; the Sony is better in every category except battery life in some cases (although 6 hours is still very solid). The screen picture quality is fantastic. It's not HD, but its close to the best you can get without bluray. It is the highest resolution you can get at this price. It's a clear, crisp and bright picture. The sound quality is great for a portable player. This player is as sold as any portable DVD player I have held. The Sony has a nice feel and design. The biggest reason I am writing a review is to clear up some things that were vague in other reviews, around the internet, but I feel are important to those who may be a little more tech savvy or even for those who may want to learn a few things. Key points about video playback: * Along with the .mp4 files this player WILL PLAY .avi files that have been encoded with MPEG-4 simple/advanced simple formatting. I use AVS video converter 7 and select the default "to AVI" conversion settings. * Any .avi or .mp4 that is DivX formated will not be recognized. No DivX. * I highly suggest the .avi container over the .mp4 because in my experience with this player the .mp4 files will not resume to where the movie last stopped if you press play. A .avi file will resume to the last point you stopped the movie. * You DO NOT need a USB flash drive to play movie files. You can burn the video files right onto a DVD. I recommend using the program Imgburn to burn the files to DVD. It's free and it automatically burns the files in the proper directory format that the player reads to read the discs file directory. Key points about USB: * This player WILL recognize most USB flash drives. I have a san disc cruiser micro and it plays video great. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BUY A SPECIAL SONY USB FLASH DRIVE. * My guess is that those who are having problems with their USB flash drives don't have the right file type on the drive or they are not selecting USB via the input button on the side of the player. It is possible they have a USB flash drive that just won't work, which I believe is the exception not the rule.

Good Product
4 Star Review   By Sekh on Sony - Official Store - Jun 4, 2011

Overall the product is good, lasts for about 5 hours, has Swivel screen, rotates about 180 D, touch screen is very easy to use.Good entertainment for kids. Can connect to TV as well. only cons i see is that, if you are looking for USB Flash Drive then be ready to spend 20 to 30 bugs as it supports only below Sony Micro vault Flash drive and Digital Camera (Released after 2008) models: USM-J/B Series, USM L-Series, USM-LX series, DSC-T series, DSW-series, DSC-H Series, DSC-S series and DSLR-A series.
