Sony XBR-65HX950
3.5 Star Review cnet.com - Nov 20, 2012

THE GOOD: The Sony XBR-HX950 series produces deeper black levels than any current LCD or plasma TV, giving excellent overall picture quality. It evinces accurate color, offers plenty of video-processing options, and can properly handle 1080p/24 sources. It also has a beautiful, thin-profile exterior design with Gorilla Glass, and its Internet suite includes numerous streaming services and widgets as well as built-in Wi-Fi. Its 3D image shows minimal crosstalk. THE BAD: The extremely expensive XBR-HX950 shows some blooming artifacts, and its picture deteriorates more noticeably than usual when seen from off-angle. Its menu and Internet service design is lackluster, and Sony does not include 3D glasses. When displaying 3D, the image flickers when dejudder is turned off, and it deteriorates rapidly when you tilt your head. THE BOTTOM LINE: Although its priced higher and performs worse than the best plasmas, the Sony XBR-HX950 is still one of the top-performing LED TVs ever.

Super happy
5 Star Review By pickyguy on Sony - Official Store - Jan 26, 2013

I purchased this TV 5 days ago and was immediately amazed by the quality of the video right out of the box with no tuning. I upgraded from an 8 year old Sony HDTV, so the quality of this set was obvious the minute I turned it on. Blacks render very black, and shades of grey are very subtly graduated - the way you expect them to be. There are plenty of professional reviews on the picture quality, and it is something that must be seen to appreciate. Photographs also render similar to what you'd see on a high quality PC monitor. It's very enjoyable to sit and view photos on this television. On the downside, the remote control is a mess and whoever designed it wasn't thinking about key navigation controls so tightly grouped with other menu keys. I find myself using the navigation keys then inadvertently pressing a menu key that moves me away from the desired feature I was using. This is a big problem when using the built in software that connects to the interent and is used for setting options. It really forces you to use a 3rd party remote to overcome the terrible design of the Sony remote. I had high expectations for this TV prior to purchasing, and it has not disappointed. It provides an amazing visual feast for your eyes.

Some of the reviews complain about flaws that require several exchanges made me apprehensive about buying this TV, but I'm so glad I got it. The full glass is elegant and the chrome stand is attractive too, although the ring shape does not really match the screen. But the picture blows me away! Screen uniformity is excellent and the black level is nearly indinguishable from the frame. I am so relieved that there are no dead pixels or permanent lines like some reviewers complained about. I have not used any of the advanced functions since I use it with a cable box. I am super happy with this TV.

Great picture, terrible software
4 Star Review By theDarkBrainer on Sony - Official Store - Jan 7, 2013

The picture tube in our 20+ year old 38” RCA Home Theater television burned out recently. After considerable amount of research on LCD, LED and plasma screens, I selected the Sony XBR-65HX950. The new 65” size for the Bravia was one of the main reasons. The video and audio qualities are superb. The colors are so clean and the clarity of scenes and faces make every program and movie so much more interesting to watch. The holiday musical programs were especially vibrant. I liked that the screen was already mounted to the table-top stand and how sturdy it is. The initial setup was easy to execute and the HD installation by the cable provider took less than 30 minutes. The price for the television was a consideration being it was double other choices that I had in mind. I am happy that I invested in a premium television with many high-tech features. A Sony Blu-ray 3D player just arrived and the grandkids will certainly enjoy their visits.

Great picture, terrible software
4 Star Review By theDarkBrainer on Adorama - Jan 7, 2013

This is the best picture. Very, very happy with the TV. I bought Sony home theater (BDV-N790W), very easy integration. Just plugged the HDTM cable and it work perfectly, it seems the TV controls the home theater. Then programmed my Fios remote to work with the TV, and suddenly i'm working with single remote all three devices. Very happy. However, the device has downsides. No support for USB keyboard ... none at all. The support told me to use Sony remote for tablet or phone. works very good, but not substitute for real keyboard. The mouse cursor is lagging a lot, almost useless. No support for USB camera either, need to buy Sony camera for that. Also, I hit a page size limit on the browser trying to see my picture on picasa. Just said: "Page to big. Go back and try another page".... Also, on the positive site, great integration with Windows Media Player. I set up a server, and it works flawlessly.

An Amazing Viewing Experience
5 Star Review By df99 on Sony - Official Store - Nov 27, 2012

I am a person who reads many a reviews and performs a ton of research before i make any sort of purchase big or small. I bought my EX645 60" Sony about two and a half years ago. When i got i thought it was great, but it always lacked a certain "wow" factor for me. The picture was nice but didn't pack that punch i was looking for. I started doing some reading about the Sony XBR, and first off i seen the hefty price tag, all be it scary i continued my research. This TV was also 5 inches bigger than the one i had, and low and behold a week ago I decided to make the plunge SITE UNSEEN and purchased the TV. I don't know how to begin telling you what this TV is. The picture truly looks like you are looking through a window, it is crystal clear. I upgraded my surroud sound, upgraded my Sony Blu ray to the Sony 3D Blu Ray, and bought a new receiver. WOW that is about all i can say. I finally found the TV that meets ALL my expectations. I cannot speak much to the Wi-fi although i did play with it a bit, but i have a computer for that and i don't stream movies from netflix. I wanted a picture that blew me away when i sat down to watch TV and THIS ONE INDEED does all of that and more. During the night scene's the black is perfect, my other TV the blacks almost seemed gray and blocky. The whites are pure and so crisp, if you are looking for a tv with a totally amazing picture THIS IS YOUR PICK! Some folks think the stand is ugly i for one like different, and think the stands sets this TV apart from the rest! I also bought the glasses which is my only CON i feel Sony should have included them for a 5000.00 TV. But we did watch a movie in 3D and it was stunning. I don't truly have enough good to say other than this tv will be with me alot longer than 2.5 years!! :-) You can't go wrong with this purchase WELL worth the steep pricetag!
