Sony NSX-46GT1 46-Inch 1080p 60 Hz LED HDTV Featuring Google TV, Black
3 Star Review  productwiki.com - Mar 3, 2011

The Sony Internet TV NSX-46GT1 is one of four Sony Internet HDTVs released in mid 2010 alongside the matching, Internet-capable NSZ-GT1. The top unit in the series, the model combines an LCD frame with LED backlighting and integrated Google Television. As well as accessing standard analog/digital cable, users can also stream content directly from the Internet. Once connected by either Gigabit LAN or WiFi, users can access YouTube, Pandora, Facebook, Twitter, etc. More importantly, the TV NSX-46GT1 provides access to the Android Market and the ability for users to link their mobile phone to it. Featured also is a QWERTY remote (described as looking like a gaming controller) that makes it simple for users to navigate the web, type, and search. Features 46” Sony Internet TV (LCD) LCD w/LED Backlighting Google TV Built-In Upgradeable Platform 1080p Video Upscaling 24p True Cinema Technology BD-Live (Profile 2.0) Integrated 802.11a/b/g/n Integrated Gigabit Ethernet NTSC/ATSC/Clear ... PROS: (1) built-in Flash and HTML5 enabled Chrome web browser (2) first TV with integrated Google TV interface and functionality (3) intuitive, customizable, modern looking and responsive Google TV UI (4) built-in WiFi and Ethernet connectivity (5) minimalist aesthetic ... CONS: (1) lacks a swivel stand (2) optical mouse has sensitivity issues - poor in comparison to the Revues touchpad (3) built in Google search doesnt search Netflix titles (4) the first TV with Google TV software - will be the one with the most bugs and fewest features that will be ironed out in future software and hardware revisions (5) only 60Hz refresh (thus clearly not 3D capable either)

Awesome TV
5 Star Review   By Blake72h on Sony - Official Store - May 16, 2012

I bought this TV because my little bro threw a Wiimote at the old tv and ruined it. With this tv since it has Gorilla Glass it is fully protected from blunt and sharp 'attacks' from kids. Its also pretty cool playing android games on a 46' screen. I wish it had the traditional XMB UI like most Sony products have now but its sill nice. The refresh rate is standard nothing special. If you want a supper high performance gaming tv this is not it. But if you like Universal user-friendly, with a lot of features this is definitely the best TV you could ever buy. Its goal is also to try to make older pieces of equipment obsolete since it has 4 USB's, 4 HDMI's, and 1 Component Input. If Sony ever made a second Generation I would totally buy it.

Limited Operation
3 Star Review   By Sonni on Sony - Official Store - Jan 13, 2012

Overall this is a first generation google tv. That being said, it has limitations. Browsing the web can be hectic if you have to dwnld a vid from a webpage. There is no Flash! The remote doesnt have a last channel button or function. There is limited amount of apps and the web experience is limited. If your gonna sell an internet tv, a google tv then make sure customers have a true alternative to a conventional CPU. SONY, you have alot of work to do on this model line. Sometimes I think I made a bad decision by buying not 1 but 2 of these tvs, 32'' and a 46''.

1 Star Review   By beza on Sony - Official Store - Jan 7, 2012

It's hard to believe I can sit in the comfort of my living room and dial in to the Philharmonie in Berlin and enjoy a vast archive of concerts dating over the past several years. It''s why I made this expensive purchase (I already had a Bravia 32"set and could get the internet through my Sony blu-ray player with a dongle in its USB), but this, with its remote is more enjoyable.)

4 Star Review   By gerald on Sony - Official Store - Dec 28, 2011

I finally decided to step up my old boob tube to this tv. I read all the reviews online about how it was bad for gaming but i ignored them. We got this tv home hooked it up and i started to play my favorite video game and noticed a good 1/4 second lag. That doesn't sound like much but if your a gamer it makes all the difference in the world. I emailed sony support about this and they said that lag was normal operation due to advanced processing blah blah blah, so i guess underperformance is normal for sony. So if you are not a gamer its an ok tv.

It's not simple
5 Star Review   By Rickybob on Sony - Official Store - Oct 31, 2011

For the simple TV watcher, forget this TV because it's over your head. But if you are one of those people who enjoy technology and can accept being on the cutting edge of whats the future, this is a fun start. The picture quality is G.I.G.O. I first used SD, not so good. Switch to H.D. and was very happy with the result. Internet movies were good on both SD and H.D. I know I can gain access to many of this TV's features on the computer, but it's time to merge the two into a more robust entertainment center. Although I have only had it for two day, I know I made a really good purchase!

False Advertizing for 32" Google TV
1 Star Review   By Maggie on Sony - Official Store - Oct 1, 2011

Except for PBS, I have not been able to find a single network that will allow me to watch full episode TV programs streaming from its website on my Sony Google TV. One gets an error message that is a variation on "The device...you're using is not currently supported." Xfinity TV also does not work on it. There are many web articles that verify major networks won't play with Google TV. Why would I buy an Internet TV that won't let me watch TV from the Internet? Additionally, since I bought it, my router is unable to maintain a connection. I'm boxing this thing up and returning it to the store.

There are some variables
4 Star Review   By TheWhiteDog on Sony - Official Store - Sep 25, 2011

There seems to be a wide range of opinion among reviewers in respect to picture quality with the NSX-46GT1. My experience has been that the quality varies with the source (garbage in, garbage out, to borrow a phrase). My provider is Comcast Cable; I also have a Sony BD player. That said, SD TV channels tend to be grainy and lack contrast. HD channels, on the other hand, are excellent. DVDs look very good; BDs are superb. HD and BD content have great depth and contrast. Indeed, given the quality of these formats I can't imagine that 3D would add much to the experience, except expense and hassles. I have not yet tested internet content extensively but, with a 6 Mbps (optimum) DSL connection and an 802.11g wireless router, Netflix content varies in quality, depending on the resolution of the source. A recent movie looked acceptable, somewhere between SD and HD cable programming quality. I'm sure if I had high-speed cable Internet service and an Ethernet connection to the TV, streaming would be better, but I cannot attribute any issues to the TV itself. What I do find annoying are the onscreen controls. I was used, with my old Sony CRT TV, to being able to adjust the color relatively easily to adapt to variations in picture quality from one channel to the next. To do the same with the NSX-46GT1 is more complex and time consuming and, hence, often not worth the trouble. On top of that, the supplied user documentation lacks any comprehensive instructions on how to use the remote or adjust the settings. The onscreen instructions refer to non-existant hard copy resources. Nor is there any further documentation available online at this site. Given the complexity of using this TV set compared to older models, I find this lack of documentation inexcusable. Unfortunately, there is no category above for usability; if there were I would rate this set no better than three bars. Fortunately, the onscreen instructions for setting up the TV were adequate - though, with the necessary software updates, it took some time to finish. Once setup was complete, however, exploring the settings was tedious in no small measure due to the absence of adequate documentation. I can only imagine what a headache this would be for a less technically inclined user.

Much more elegant than I originally thought
5 Star Review   By Kelvweb on Sony - Official Store - Sep 15, 2011

I installed this TV, thinking that my wife would never use the Google portion of the TV - that only the kids and I would view and surf at the same time. Within 10 minutes - she "got" the remote and wants us to add the Google box to our other TVs as well! Great design, great TV quality, tremendous value. An unsung "WOW" product from Sony.

2 Star Review   By Jjohn on Sony - Official Store - Aug 27, 2011

Screen veiwing is BAD OMG its bad, Like looking at a really LOW res LCD computer monitor, Looks good when you use the apps and the interent but for TV watching or DVD or Netflix it stinks,. Sony really dropped the ball with this TV/IPTV Sony is getting where they make cheap TV's but charge out rag prices. My sujestion move on to Samsung or LG On the Plus side SONY makes great Camcorders But they should stick to cams and stay out of the TV market

Good Picture Overall - Not Good with Xbox 360
5 Star Review   By JossMorante on Sony - Official Store - Aug 25, 2011

Overall picture quality is very good for most shows. Sports leave something to be desired due to 60Hz refresh rate. Why they didn't use 120Hz I don't know. I like the thin profile and picture looks good from any angle. My son is disappointed though because the internal picture processing causes a lag with the Xbox so that games are essentially unplayable. There is no "Game" mode like on some HDTVs to help with this, so he is out of luck. Seems like a software update could alleviate this but have searched the Sony site and they just say that it is the normal way this tv operates. The two handed remote takes some getting used to and I am still not comfortable with it yet. As we have a cable box remote for channel changing, the Google remote, and our surround sound receiver remote, its a lot to juggle. Wish it came with a universal remote. My wife is satisfied with the tv, although I would prefer something better for sports. Also I REALLY don't like that if you go to say, NBC.com and want to watch an episode or skit from SNL or The Office, their videos are blocked. I heard it was some contractual thing but it is extremely annoying. Why have web browsing if you can't have access to what you want? Overall, the picture quality is very good for most shows. The 4 HDMI inputs is good to have too. I would prefer that sports show up better, but as my wife likes the tv I guess we are stuck. The price for this size tv was very good as it looks like Sony is reducing the price on all its Google tvs. I heard from a sales person that the agreement with Google and Sony has been severed, so I just hope that Sony continues to support this tv.

AWESOME now and will only get better with time!
5 Star Review   By YoungGrandpainCA on Sony - Official Store - Aug 14, 2011

The best part about Google TV is that it will continue to get software upgrades over the air and so will only get better over time. There are some content websites that are blocking like Hulu, but I'd rather have access to the entire web than to have 15-20 crummy apps. That means I can watch stuff like TedTalks, ustream videos, YouTube, etc. It takes my TV to a whole new level. Android Market will be launched in the spring of 2011 only making this thing even better. I can't wait! BUY ONE!

An innovative device that disappoints.
3 Star Review   By fakebritishguy on Sony - Official Store - May 18, 2011

I really, really want to like Sony's Google TV...there is so much potential here that I sincerely intend to keep it around. Sadly though, this TV misses several simple details that keep it from being the center of my living room. Namely, and I sincerely CAN'T believe the engineers at Sony missed this: Screen lag. Say you plug in your Playstation 3 (an irreplaceable Sony Product BTW) and load up Killzone 3 or a DVD...it'll take you about a minute to realize that your controls feel off...like they're lagging behind the game. It actually kind of reminded me of trying to play games back in the day on an AOL connection. Watch a DVD with an external surround sound system and you'll swear that the sound doesn't match the motions of the actors mouths...truth be told, it doesn't. Hook the Google TV to your computer (HDMI of course) and you'll probably think that your mouse is moving sluggishly or that navigation isn't as smooth as on a simple LCD monitor. From all of this, I asked Sony tech support if there was any recourse for all of this to which they said "No, it is a natural product of the advanced display processing that the TV performs" of which there is no option to disable. Disabling those "features" one by one in the settings does little to improve the condition. To top it off, the Android OS driving the TV lacks the best feature of any Android Device: The Marketplace. Google has said several times that they intend to implement this functionality, but as yet they haven't. Also, after the most recent update I experienced frequent crashes in the browser's Flash Plugin (and which was fixed with a system restore). The positive: the integration of Chrome, Flash, and a couple of useful applications that the TV comes with makes for a convenient all-in-one package that I do sincerely appreciate. The "cool" factor though, is perhaps it's best feature. Almost every friend of mine is intimidated by the remote at first, but find it intuitive and easy to use. They're equally impressed by the ease of access to YouTube and Pandora. Makes for an amazing "going to sleep" device. In short, unless you've an audio receiver capable of / the know-how to program a 100 ms of audio delay, no desire to play video games, and/or a ridiculously slow mousing style, Sony's Google TV is best kept in your bedroom...in fact, it's perfect for that. Hope I've been of some help, -25 y/o male with geek tendencies.

Awesome product
5 Star Review   By dxzkq on Sony - Official Store - May 4, 2011

Great product. My whole family loves it. Accomplishes key tasks very well. I would like to see more apps for this device and improved functionality of the keyboard. It is almost impossible to use drag and drop functionality with this keyboard while my kid was playing some games online. Does not show up my video files on HDD as a play list. Recognizes FAT32 format only, had to purchase a separate hard-disk since my current disk was formatted in NTFS. Has little success so far in setting up my laptop as a media server. Search function does not search for files in the HDD connected to the TV.

2nd Sony TV and my LAST
2 Star Review   By Johnreiland on Sony - Official Store - Apr 24, 2011

I have had it with Sony. I had a sony TV that was defective and could have burned down my house. Sony offered to settle with me if I paid over half of the cost of a new sony bravia. Much to my dissatisfaction I did and got a new 46" bravia. Just over 1 year old and I mean just over by days the volume would just stop or be very gargled. I replaced my cable box and hdmi cable and still there was a problem. Sony sent me a software update and still not fixed. Now sony won't do anything as it is out of warranty. Well I can do something. BEWARE do not buy a sony product.

Good Start, but not THERE yet!
3 Star Review   By Arun79 on Sony - Official Store - Apr 16, 2011

3 Features that will make me buy right away and make me evangelize this TV to all my friends are: 1. Built-in BLU-RAY player. 2. Supports world wide power specs (230V, 50Hz). 3. Refresh rate of 120Hz or above. Probably add an additional remote - another simpler/cute version just for TV, in addition to the current one.

the google technology is great, the TV, eh
5 Star Review   By MySonyReview on Sony - Official Store - Mar 26, 2011

Even the sony chat support lady didn't have any reason for the 60Hz. You want 120 to 240Hz and you want 3D ready. I'd suggest getting a Bravia or another LED Tv and the Logitech Revue. I have been using the Revue for a few days now and its incredible. I just wish the Sony folks would step up to the plate cause I really like their products, like the great NEX-5 camera is amazing.

Beautiful TV!!!
5 Star Review   By dthoj on Sony - Official Store - Mar 4, 2011

Overall, this TV amazes me! The screen is so clear and goes so well with my Imac! I love the design. Out of all the hdtvs out there, this one is the most beautiful TV I've ever seen. Looks great playing Blurays and my PS3 games. A lot of people are complaining about the 60ghz but honestly, it looks just fine to me. Besides, 120ghz looks too fake sometimes. but that's just me. The Remote is nice and easy to use. Feels really comfortable in my hands. All in all, I am Happy with this tv! Great job sony! Best Internet TV out there.

Why limit yourself?
4 Star Review   By CfC4evr on Sony - Official Store - Feb 23, 2011

We just got the 46' Google TV and at first we were disappointed to learn that the networks and Hulu had blocked access to it. But, we got over it quickly. We are Sony and Macintosh afficionados and these two pair beautifully. Why limit yourself? After we got the Google TV all set up, which was a snap, we went out and bought an Apple TV to access our iMac from another room. What is really cool is that iTunes from any computer streams content to the Apple TV including an HP media computer which records from to old analog TV. So we have the Google TV browser content, basic cable content, Podcasts, iTunes, iMovies, iPhotos, Netflix movies, HuluPlus someday (I KNOW they'll come around) AND recorded TV. For the cost of internet access $45 and a basic cable subscription $12, it all works just fine.

Know what you're buying
4 Star Review   By rickjamess on Sony - Official Store - Feb 23, 2011

Disregard what the idiots before said about contrast and refresh rate. Its well known that manufacturers' methods to measure contrast differ wildly and the numbers they give are inflated so much they mean nothing. As for the refresh rate; If you feel the need to buy into gimmicks and marketing speak go buy a 240hz TV. However, no source media (bluray, ps3, dvd, dish, etc..) you attach to this device will ever exceed 60hz, which is already double the standard frames per second in most media. 120hz and up is a waste of power, reduces quality of the program you're watching, and adds video lag to any games you might play. Be a smart consumer, not a lemming.

5 Star Review   By J5130 on Sony - Official Store - Feb 5, 2011

I received the 46” model last month and have had nothing but a great experience thus far, I can’t find any reason not to be satisfied. Beautiful image’s, crisp sound, ease of use, and the power of the Internet at your fingertips are just a few of the many great things I can say about this product. The Design is great, the controller is not as complicated as it looks *my 76 year old grandma uses it, and its ability to provide hours of entertainment will not let you down…

Great TV
4 Star Review   By mykinoakley on Sony - Official Store - Feb 2, 2011

Pros: I like the TV. The border around the screen is minimal and the TV itself is light enough that I can carry it alone (5'10 male, computer nerd, never work out). The stand is supposed to be some big whoop de doo but it holds the TV up, so it's doing it's job. There's 2 boot-up options. One saves power but the TV takes 30-45 seconds to boot up. The other takes more power but turns on almost instantly. The power taker is basically a "screen is off but TV is on" mode. It has built-in wifi which is great, and you can plug a device into the TV and use it's internet connection. I have my PS3 hooked into mine and don't have any lag when playing games. The menu system takes a while to get used to and is customizable. It has a cable that can allow it to control 2 other devices (Comcast DVR and Onkyo receiver for me). Cons: The keypad has no lighting so if you haven't memorized where every button is, you'll need some sort of light to see the buttons. SONY on the bottom of the TV is okay, but it lights up and is visible while watching. Annoying if you're trying to get a "movie theater" feel but easily fixed with a 4 inch piece of black electrical tape. All in all, I recommend this TV. I replaced my 51" plasma with this 46" LCD and don't see much of a size difference (5" diagonally isn't much).

Contrary to popular belief..
4 Star Review   By cleveland on Sony - Official Store - Feb 2, 2011

this TV doesn't deserve the bad rap it is getting. I won this TV in the Google TV contest sponsored by YouTube and have used it for close to a month now. I have to say that this TV has gotten quite a backlashing from the community and I can't quite grasp why. Sure, it doesn't offer 120hz, but you also have to understand your application - do you prefer listening to 256k or v0 mp3s? If you just listen for the music, then it doesn't matter. The software is good now, but I have a feeling that it will be great once Google irons out some of the kinks and opens up the marketplace. It takes a little bit for these things to get off the ground, and the fact that the software can be updated on the TV is a great selling point. The USB ports are also huge, allowing for communication with hardware in future apps... imagine the possibilities! My biggest complaint has got to be the remote. This blog post is pretty much spot on: stagetwo.com/2010/10/w... I've used the Google TV remote app on my Droid X and find that to be better, but still overwhelming. I'll definitely be on the look out for third party remotes. All in all, if you're on the fence or in the least bit interested, check out the TV and its picture for yourself in a store, and if you like that, then you'll be satisfied.

Stylish, Sleek, and Crystal Clear
5 Star Review   By garciamarcus on Sony - Official Store - Feb 1, 2011

For those of you that don't know 60 hz is the highest tv you need. Satellite Boxes, Blu Ray Players, PS3's, or Anything else you plug in to the TV all play in 60 hz or 24 hz. Nothing plays in 120 or 240, so there is no need for the higher hz because it does not truly play that high. The color, the whites and the blacks on this tv is fantastic. I own a Samsung UN55B800 $3800 240hz , Mitsubishi Laservue $7000 120z, and this tv compares greatly to both tv's. This is a great tv for the amount it cost. Its a perfect tv for teens, college students, pretty much anyone that uses the internet, watches you tube, or downloads music videos from the internet.

60Hz? Is this a joke?
5 Star Review   By thatsiliconvalleygirl on Sony - Official Store - Dec 8, 2010

Whoever called 120Hz a "gimmick" has obviously never seen it in action. I literally just got home from shopping around for a new flat screen and I decided then and there that 120Hz or above was unquestionably a deal breaker because of it's obviously superior performance, it doesn't just make what you're watching look "better", it actually makes it easier to watch. The best way to describe it is to say it makes content "flow", but it's impossible to perfectly describe. You really have to go down to the television display at your local Best Buy or WalMart and see for yourself how glaringly obvious the difference is. It doesn't matter if content is created to take advantage of it, anything in HD (television, DVD's, Blu-ray) greatly benefits from a higher refresh rate. Other manufacturers will be making Google TV powered devices and I highly recommend waiting to see the options that emerge. Go and find yourself a solid flat screen (1080p, 120Hz, LCD or LED), contrast ratio doesn't matter as any high end flat screen will have excellent contrast ratio, and buy a standalone Google TV device you can simply plug in (like the Sony Blu-ray player shown here). Don't skimp on important specs just to get trendy features that have yet to prove their worth.

it freezes very often
1 Star Review   By wuj1 on Sony - Official Store - Dec 4, 2010

The second time I turned on the TV, it freezed. Then after a few seconds, it restarted, but it kept freezing-restarting again and again. At the end, it just shutdown. Sometimes, it worked smoothly. But the freezing problem happens very often, which is very annoying. I did not connect anything to the TV. And it does not have anything special. You can not install any apps. So what's the point?

Great Product !!!
3 Star Review   By goofy on Sony - Official Store - Nov 3, 2010

This WebTV works really great!! The first one arrived with a broken display and Sony replaced it very quickly and kindly (very nice experience with Customer Service). Configuration is very easy. The picture quality is GEAT!, very nice sound, just with the built in speakers. Browsing the web is very smooth, the control as a mouse is very user-friendly. Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, GoogleMaps; works very very well, as other internet pages you might visit. If you try to replace your laptop with this, it is not a smart move. An extra remote control (just for TV) would be great, as not always we are using the WEB. As I live in Mexico, not all the features in the TV/WEB work, as the apps are designed to work only in the US. But even with this issue, I’m very satisfied with this purchase (i bought it in a special sale). The option of "dual view", as watching the internet and the TV is cool! We are very happy with this product (whole family). If you want to watch TV with great quality, and just browse the internet as this device is designed to (just browser), this is your the perfect choice. Great product: SONY!!!

nx800
2 Star Review   By suprdave73 on Sony - Official Store - Oct 28, 2010

I decided to go with the NX800 instead of the the google tv and i have to say, it is far superior. The Nx800 also has wi-fi built-in and gets apps. The refresh rate is 240hz and you can buy the google deal and add it to this tv and you will get a much better deal. The nx800 is a few hundred dollars more, but it is a much better tv.

It's a TV, It's Computer no it's Sony Internet TV!
1 Star Review   By utahnguy on Sony - Official Store - Oct 24, 2010

First I am an IT professional so I am not technically challenged and this concept of TV+Internet is so cool. I have an Apple TV but that just does Youtube and Netflix (i dont use iTunes that much) and so true with the other TVs which have Internet Applications. But with this TV you have the Browser ( Chrome ) ! You really have the WorldWideWeb, browse through any website, it supports Flash and it works great and it gives me everything I want. Don't know why 60Hz is bad as everything on this TV looks great to my eyes ( I am not an avid gamer though) and my Blu ray looks great, Netflix and Youtube are perfect and boy i was excited to play Wii on this huge screen. Set Up: The TV setup took 20 minutes to download some updates and then the TV restarted and I had my TV channel (i use an Antenna wire) set up done (took 20 minutes to scan and find the channels) and then I was done. Remote: This Remote is awesome, if people cant use this then how are they using the Computer or their smart phones ? The remote works well for me, the Mouse goes where I want it to go and the Keypad is good and the remote fits well in your hands. The pairing to use my Sony BD player was a breeze so now i have one remote for my TV and Movies. Also you have the Google TV app for iPhone (i have 3G and 4) and this Remote works fantastic ( you would be amazed how well the pairing works ) and the Voice Command is too good! Display: It's a Sony the display has to be the Best ! If someone is complaining abt the display then that would be a Netflix video as they Picture Quality depends on the Internet Connection. Watch a Blu Ray or any HD Channel and you would be amazed. Conclusion: This TV has so far exceeded my expectations and is the best buy, if you are not yet ready to move to 3D. If you like technology (something new), Watch TV and browse the Net this is the TV (Computer) for You !

60 hz or not?
3 Star Review   By ABitCritical on Sony - Official Store - Oct 20, 2010

As a hometheater sales associate for best buy I was naturally very excited for the Oct. 17th release of sony's google tv. Seeing that the tvs (even the 46") run at a 60hz refresh rate was increadibly disapointing. My supervissor, who attended a seminar on google tv in Orlando this past August claims that sony says the TV processes much quicker than 60hz due to the core processor that is built in. The display was set up in store today. You can bet that after hours I will be disconnecting whatever display sony has set up and watching some ESPN highlights to judge how well these things actually keep up.

Google TV, I love this set
4 Star Review   By DONZ on Sony - Official Store - Oct 19, 2010

The only reason to reduce a star is the 60hz things. Very mean from Sony on this. Just bought it today. Did exactly what is is saying. Nice design, nice colour, nice shape. Not happy to see 60hz only. I think this was mean from Sony, but from commercial prospective, Sony may have got chance to get rid of all old 60hz screens, But screen is still good and a great TV. I am starting to love it immediately. Other cons is the size, only upto 46"? I would love to see it in 52". Another point is the missing of INTEL processor name. If the TV is based mainly on processor, than it should be called SONY-INTEL TV and not Google TV. I dont know what google TV in it, to me, it is more a Sony+Intel TV. Anyway, above all great tv, bye bye Apple TV (who needs apple tv now), Cant wait to see google apps launching and using it. For Skype, a web cam would have been great.

What happened?!
1 Star Review   By StylinLikeSony on Sony - Official Store - Oct 19, 2010

This TV had so much potential and with all the marketing hype surrounding the inclusion of Google TV, I was almost convinced. Upon closer inspection of the specs for this thing I began to notice that its nothing more than a bottom of the line LCD with Google TV tacked on. I used to turn to Sony for a high end, high quality product for a reasonable price. With this 60 hz refresh rate trash and third-rate contrast ratio plus ugly ugly plastic I just want to kick this TV every time I see it in stores. Good thing no one else seems to be looking at it either. I hope you guys learned your lesson! Oh yeh, and take that 5 Star image off the products main website. This is a 1 Star TV!!

Love my Sony 46" Google TV!
5 Star Review   By Knowsalittlesomething on Sony - Official Store - Oct 19, 2010

After several days comparison shopping for a new tv, I narrowed down my choices to a Samsung Internet tv and the Sony Google tv. After comparing various features, the Sony won hands down! The Sony 60 hz thing people sometimes complain about on various review boards doesn't make a visible difference to me at all. I compared tvs with more hz side by side with Goggle TV and did not see any difference at all-even when watching football and baseball (where the sales guy told me I *might* notice a difference as this sometimes occurs with certain low-end brands). My take: Sony GTV has great "brains" so it having "only" 60 hz makes no difference. I just can' t say enough good things about my Sony GTV. It's so easy to use and and has such a great picture! The one little "issue" I ran into was really with Comcast: I wound up having to swap out the Scientific Atlantic Comcast hd cable box I had been using in order to get my hdmi cord to work with the Sony GTV. The new Xfinity Cisco rng150 box Comcast gave me plays well with GTV.

TV for nerds
1 Star Review   By Potter on Sony - Official Store - Oct 16, 2010

I've had this TV for almost a month now and wanted to post a quick review of my experiences so far. -Remote works great and very intuitive. The optical mouse is very usable, but it isn't perfect. Only remote complaint is probably a software issue where the volume rocker will get some input lag on occasion (ie you raise or lower the volume several notches and the TV takes several seconds to adjust the volume). -Speakers aren't very good. But considering how thin most sets are these days from all manufacturers, I wasn't expecting much from the speakers--I have separate audio speakers that I use, so this is a non-issue for me. Speaking of audio, this might be operator error on my part, but if I'm watching TV via the tuner and I turn on my PS3, the PS3's audio completely overrides the tuner audio even if I haven't switched the input over to the PS3. -IR blasters work well, but I wish my AV receiver supported the HDMI control feature the TV comes enabled with so I didn't have to use the IR blasters. In other words, if you're in the market for a AV receiver, make sure your receiver supports control via HDMI so you can minimize the number of cables. -Picture quality is pretty good. Granted, I realize this is a mid-range TV, so I wasn't expecting pristine picture quality of a set costing 2 or 3x. Initially I was a little worried when watching TV over my standard cable video source because there is some very very slight green tones that pop up. But after viewing video from multiple sources, I'm convinced this is a cable issue, not TV issue. In particular, picture quality via PS3/blu-ray is pretty darn good. Black levels are decent, but probably not as good as a plasma or my outgoing CRT Sony Wega. -LED backlight bleed through. Sure, it is there, but I've only been able to notice it at times such as when I've got a blu-ray loading up and the screen is totally black. Other than that, I've looked very hard for this issue and I don't notice it at all. I know edge-lit sets are known for bleeding, but I didn't find my set to be impacted negatively in any real-world way. -Browser. I love the browser. It works great. -Apps. Android Market isn't available yet, but the Google TV remote app is available if you have an Android phone. The app works great on my Droid--although, there seem to be some bugs with the remote app and the Droid's keyboard. But using your phone as a mouse works great. Other apps on the TV are mostly filler--essentially glorified web-links (TBS and TNT in particular). But other apps like netflix and pandora work great. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the Android Market will really be where this TV shines--I guess time will tell. I'm not normally one to leave a lot of user reviews about my purchases. But I think this TV has gotten a lot of unfavorable user reviews from people I'm not even sure own the TV and I wanted to give my impressions to clear up any misconceptions. The 60hz thing apparently upsets a lot of people. Personally I think 120hz (and above) are gimmicky features (unless you're doing 3D) and I prefer 60hz panels because they look more real to me. But I guess that is my personal preference. Aside from that, I think it is a pretty good TV. Sure, there is a slight price premium, but to me it was worth it if I got a highly functional browser in my living room without having to add another separate box to my television.

All internet TVs are only 60HZ!!! - Beware
2 Star Review   By HDTVGuy007 on Sony - Official Store - Oct 14, 2010

Wow- I mean, just WOW. What a beautiful TV, and Google TV to boot! This is where the future of TV is going- but NOT with low-budget hardware specs like 60hz and poor contrast ratio. A ground breaking product... ruined. Come on Sony, what's up?? Someone please fire the project manager that approved this. If you notice, they do not publish the TV specs on the product pages because they know it is 4 year old outdated tech. SONY YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED!
