Sony BRAVIA KDL-55EX500
3 Star Review  productwiki.com - Aug 3, 2010

The Sony BRAVIA KDL-55EX500 is one of five CCFL backlit LCD HDTVs announced in 2010 as part of the KDL-EX500 Series. Although priced the same as KDL-EX600 models, the KDL-55EX500 and its peers differ in that they utilize Motionflow 120Hz Technology, allowing for smoother transitions and onscreen movement. As one of the larger units in the series, the 55” KDL-55EX500 offers full 1080p HD resolution at an ultra-fast frame-rate. Included also is a plethora of connectivity options, including HDMI, HDMI Component, HDMI PC, and USB. Plus, the unit is powered by the BRAVIA ENGINE 3 and offers 100% single-remote compliance with any BRAVIA device. 5 Star Review   By TRMxKNW on Sony - Official Store - Jan 24, 2012

After many years as a satisfied Sony analog TV customer, took the leap to the large LCD panel with the 52" Bravia. Its screen panel failed in just over 3 years! I was offered this 55" TV at a cost of $900 as a replacement for the bad one (this doesn't count the cost of "repair" to determine the fatal problem). 3 years is an unacceptable lifespan for an expensive consumer product. A manufacturer not making good on faulty equipment is also unacceptable. I'm not risking my money on another Sony product.

Should have bought Hitachi
1 Star Review   By Notbuyingthis on Sony - Official Store - Sep 15, 2011

Bought a KDL52W3000 in 2008 and it has stopped working. It was $90 for a service call. It would cost another $600 to repair or $900 to replace with help from Sony. Not a chance considering that it cost $3500 when we bought it...so we should spend $1500/year to have a Sony??? Other brands cost much less than Sony then and now. We thought we were buying the best, obviously, we thought wrong.

Lacks design and picture quality
2 Star Review   By tcalaska on Sony - Official Store - Aug 8, 2011

I received the KDL55ex500 as a refurbished unit to replace my Sony KDL52W5150 which had a much better picture but they couldn't keep it running even though it was only 15 months old. The design of the frame around the screen is awful it just glares out at you as opposed to the all black frame on my previous Sony. The picture quality appears to be washed out. I have messed with all of the adjustments but have been unable to improve on my picture. Sony needs to do something with it's speakers as the sound quality is very poor. I liked my 52" picture and design quality but the reliability was very poor. When it breaks I will either buy a Samsung or Panasonic.

Good, but...
3 Star Review   By Jack9579 on Sony - Official Store - Mar 11, 2011

When I was upgrading from my 32" Dynex, I found this TV and it instantly caught my eye. For a price drop to $1,200 at my local Best Buy, I couldn't say no. I wasn't expecting to get one this large, but hey, I'm a guy! I took this home, and it was very easily set up - the picture is amazing, I don't know what everyone else is talking about. You won't be upset if your using HD! I can't review on component because I don't use it, but the HD is amazing, and the quality and color is just perfect for any TV enthusiast. I've had zero problems with my product, so I am a very happy customer. I have never been disappointed with Sony - they are becoming my home stock pile of products!

Best TV Purchase Ever!
5 Star Review   By flower1 on Sony - Official Store - Jan 25, 2011

Have been enjoying this TV for a few days and really like it. It is probably the best 55 LCD out there. Personally I do not like the LED because I think they are too bright. This one is perfect, big screen and great picture. Although you gotta have a nice sound equipment to plug it in, because the sound out of the TV does not make justice to how good the TV really is.

Great TV for your green back
5 Star Review   By Mayas on Sony - Official Store - Dec 9, 2010

I have bought this directly from Sonystyle for a best price even better than AMAZON. I wish the packaging while shipping is better, double boxed, but no damage with the single box. Set up was 15 min with my son 13 year old. Used the tutorial video from Sony as guidance. I have a bright room, but I did not see any speck of reflection during the day as the ambient sensor jack up the brightness and best picture quality I have seen. I have done my research for over 2 months on LEDs (Edge Full array), Plasmas, Samsung and Panasonics and Vizios, but this is a technology you can trust for another five years (bough 5 year warranty from Sony). When the dust settles on LED, who knows, the Quantum dot technology might kill LEDs in the future. Tip: When you call ask for the best price from sonystyle over the phone. I am extremely satisfied and will update latter.

5 Star Review   By Loose on Sony - Official Store - Nov 9, 2010

I got this about 10 days ago. Had BEST BUY hook it up. Read some of these reviews while waiting for delivery. I've owned SONY TV's for the past 20 years. You guys had me a little worried. The picture is GREAT. I feel like I could walk right into the screen. I'm an older guy so I do have hearing loss. Go ahead and make fun, but it sounds good to me. When you critique something. People have the urge to want perfection. No, it doesn't have BOSE home theater quality sound. Let me tell you this. I shopped around. If you can get a better 55" TV for what I paid.........I'll eat this TV.

Sony Bravia KDL-55EX500
2 Star Review   By BobE on Sony - Official Store - Sep 5, 2010

I think I took a step down from the 52" KDL3100 I had. On the 3100, the picture was IMPECCABLE and the frame was ONE COLOR, MATTE FINISH. Who is the genius that put this shiny finish glaring in my already occluded eye? And the silver strip at the bottom? The frame on the 3100 was ideal. Also the picture quality is not as clear and seems too bright or washed out. The only reason I gave away the 3100 was because twice in 8 months the lamp made noise and the TV would not come on and it blinked 13 times. I got it to come back but was worried it would die while I had company over to see it. So I opted to just get a new one and let my friend have it to use while it worked. Is there another model that doesn't GLARE at me while I'm trying to watch? You cannot beat the STYLE of the frame on the KDL3100 52" and why did you change it? The felt bottom was an improvement, the other one had stuck to my glass table, but I managed to pry it free. Honestly why can't you leave a good design alone? Very disappointed.

I did my homework on TV's. I decided on the 40" sony. I love it! The picture is crystal clear. I also got a sony blu ray player and now Im ready to buy a 55" for my living room. Motionflow is good when you watch an action movie but does take some getting used to.

It's a Great TV
4 Star Review   By TheGeek10908 on Sony - Official Store - Jul 12, 2010

It's a great TV, except for, first of all, the sound is horrible. You have to turn it up to like 60 or 70 to hear it, and second, every time you turn on the TV, this extremely loud chime comes on. I've looked everywhere in the settings and there is no way to disable it. I switched from a KDF-55WF655 from 2004 because it had this horrible blue blob looking thing in the bottom of the screen and you only had to turn it up to 7 or 8 to hear it good. I am extremely disappointed you have to turn it up so loud to hear it and that a extremely loud chime comes on that wakes everyone up when you turn it on.

5 Star Review   By Germany2010Champs on Sony - Official Store - Jun 17, 2010

I recently upgraded to this Tv from a 12 yr old Sony BigScreen. I think for the money this size TV is great the blue on it is better than the 3000 dollar projector i have that i havent turned on since i bought the TV. The screen has no glare so no matter what time of day or if its directly in sunlight u get a great picture. MotionFlow with the World Cup has been amazing! GO DEUTSCHLAND!

5 Star Review   By 07FX4Chick on Sony - Official Store - Jun 12, 2010

Received this TV as settlement for Sony Blue Blue Blotch problem on a KDF55XS95S TV. The sound is terrible and cracks at low volume, fidelity is worse then my old RCA TV from 1975. Audio output is fixed rendering my Sony Home Theater System useless, unless you want to use multiple remotes, explain that to my wife. The power consumption is terrible, over 400 watts. If I had any other option I would not keep this TV. Sound and power make it a very poor replacement.

AWSOME TV!
5 Star Review   By Ric06 on Sony - Official Store - Apr 24, 2010

The good: The tv is big and impressive and has tons of inputs. Gaming is great on this TV, looks great, works great with the PS3 The bad: Motionflow makes all your movies and tv look like a soap opera, turn it off first thing. After a while of watching movies my roommate asked me "Whats wrong with the picture, why does it look like a soap opera?" We discovered that it is Motionflow. Even on the low setting it has this weird effect. I use it for gaming only but I generally just leave it off all the time. The different 'scenes' like movies, gaming, sport... are all horrible and don't seem to be optimized for anything. The movie setting makes everything look dull, gives everything a green & brown tent, seems to have less contrast too. The picture on the tv does not appear as sharp to me as my old Samsung, to be fare the Samsung was smaller. I used to get comments about the picture quality on my Samsung, no one has commented about the picture quality on this TV. The speakers are very horrible, if there is any bass the TV will actually 'rattle' and 'clip' the audio. There is no audio normalizing so when watching a movie you have to constantly adjust the volume. The ambient light adjusting feature sounds cool but in my experience it always makes the picture a little too dark, even with the brightness turned all the way up. Overall the tv is alright but I wish I had bought a slightly smaller and cheaper Samsung.

This is the best TV we have had! It is replacing a 55" LCD that we moved to another room. We plan to hang this up on the wall soon. The picture is night and day compared to the "other tv". Sony did an EXCELLENT job with this TV!
