Sony BRAVIA KDL-40BX420
1.5 Star Review  productwiki.com - Apr 5, 2011

Sonys BRAVIA KDL-40BX420 is a mid-range HDTV and is the middle model in the BX420 set of products. Its features are practically the same as the others, the main distinguishing factor being the 40" display size. Main features include multiple HD inputs (PC, HDMI and Component) and an automatic brightness selector based on the light conditions in the room. It has integrated speakers as well as a 5.1-channel audio output. It automatically shuts off when not in use, and has a 176 degree viewing angle from both vertical and horizontal directions. Its remote control can sync with other BRAVIA products, such as receivers or disc players, to act as a universal remote. This TV has several preset display modes such as gaming or sports, and a USB input to display portable digital media. There is a 46" model above and a 32" model below this one in the same series, the KDL-46BX420 ... PROS: (1) value - Full HD compliant (1080p) HDTV with a 4" panel (2) good picture quality - images appear vibrant and colorful with good black levels ... CONS: (1) glossy bezel/stand - picks up fingerprints and dust (2) only 2x HDMI inputs (3) poor sounding speakers - not a good choice for watching movies (4) only 60Hz - no 120/240Hz modes (5) CCFL-backlit - uses more energy than LED HDTVs

So Ecstatic
5 Star Review   By judebd on Sony - Official Store - Aug 6, 2012

I am very unhappy with the screen banner that appears on the screen and blocks out a portion of the picture. I have called Sony and they tell me there is no way to remove it. If I would have know this problem was on the product I would not have purchased the TV no matter how much I like the other features. I feel it is a misrepresentation of this product.

Happy
5 Star Review   By stalepie on Sony - Official Store - Jan 14, 2012

LOVe this TV!!! Just got it today, but will update/delete this review if anything goes wrong. Black levels are excellent for an entry-level LCD (it has no LED-backlighting). Colors seem perfectly accurate and look great when turned up 10-15 notches. I recommend adjusting the settings a good bit to your liking, such as going into advanced and playing with the contrast and black level settings. Eventually you'll find a combination that really makes this baby sing! Only downside is poor sound -- best buy a pair of speakers or more, or a soundbar or something like that.

Everyone is 5 ft tall & 2 ft wide
2 Star Review   By bobolink24 on Sony - Official Store - Dec 21, 2011

Why build a 40" tv if you can't get a nature picture using the full screen? Without cutting off the top and bottom. Without having 4" wide black strips around the perimeter? I've set all the settings the same as my 46" which I don't have a problem with. Same aggravating result. This web site and and the menu for telephone tech support are just as bad as the tv picture I sh have kept the old RCA. .

Functioned for 5 Days
1 Star Review   By Malhutch on Sony - Official Store - Dec 19, 2011

This TV stopped working after 5 days, refusing to start/reset and all I have is a flashing LED. Customer Technical Support was unable to help, now I have to inconvenience myself to run it to some "approved service center' in my work time. First Sony product for 10 years...................... probably the last too.

Bravia KDL 408X420
1 Star Review   By PACKERFAN on Sony - Official Store - Dec 13, 2011

After researching Bravia TVs, I decided to go ahead with this model since it is one of the newer releases for 2011. I'm glad I waited, as this TV is clearer and more vivid than those of some older Class styles or rival brands. Picture quality is clear with no fog or motion blur. PS3 games and Netflix look absolutely amazing. The only thing this TV may need now is a sound system to broaden the audio experience. In stores you may see this TV's picture slightly less bright than others, but that is because of the built in light sensor that's located on the front of the frame. The picture automatically adjusts to best fit it's surroundings, and that's what's truly great. No fussing with brightness settings all the time. Overall, worth every penny. Stick with Sony and you won't be disappointed.

It's an OK TV
4 Star Review   By Rastus on Sony - Official Store - Aug 11, 2011

I bought this TV because I have a lot of Sony equipment and didn't research this as much as I did other brands. It has no PIP function, no clock, and the remote is limited in functionality. It's an awkward process to switch to a device such as a DVR and to make picture and sound adjustments compared to my 12-year old TV. You can make adjustments to the sound quality, but even then the sound is fair at best. I definitely would not have bought this TV if I had waited a couple of months and knew of Sony Pictures' political actions. I know it's Sony Pictures, a Hollywood entity, but it still has the Sony name attached.

Nice HDTV
4 Star Review   By bmc12 on Sony - Official Store - Jul 14, 2011

I have had several LCD’s and LED’s tried prior to this baby also; I have tried comparison with concurrent 2 LED displays from another 2 renowned brands. There I could dispute the myth of LED advantage over LCD’s except power usage. That would be tackled by the Eco feature built in and some adjustments to the display properties and you are through. BX 420 display and the other graphic characteristics seems superior to others. Deep Blacks, Accurate colors in mid range and above is well ahead especially to an entry level model. The matte screen gives an added advantage in bright atmospheres. There may be initial glitches when we plug it for the very first time but, there you get so called settings to do the trick. Customizing it with good care you could overcome all these. Even you could customize the sound system to a very good standard and the surround sounds work great. I love it and enjoy every bit of it’s performance.
