Samsung LN52A650
4 Star Review  cnet.com - Apr 29, 2008

THE GOOD: Superb black-level performance; highly accurate color; improved 120Hz de-judder video processing; fine standard-definition processing; broad selection of picture setup options; can display weather, news, and stock info onscreen; energy-efficient compared with most like-size LCDs. THE BAD: Relatively expensive; red-colored frame isnt for everyone; shiny screen reflects ambient room lighting; some artifacts when de-judder modes are engaged; awkward click wheel remote. THE BOTTOM LINE: If you dont mind its red frame, the Samsung LN52A650 LCD TV will reward you with a massive feature set and excellent picture quality.

1 Star Review

Strengths: Great picture, loved the tv but...

Weakness: Not good customer service

I have had my Samsung plasma tv for just a little over 2 years. One night while watching it, the tv clicked off and on for about ten minutes and then just went out, but continued with the clicking noise. I had it in to a tv repairman and he told me that plasmas only last about two years. This did not make me happy since I paid a lot of money for it and expect it to last at least 8-10 years. He said that he couldn't fix it until he got a new board for it and that it would cost at least $500. I called Samsung to see what they could do for us and was not at all satisfied with their answer. I was told by 3 tv shops to call them as they stand behind their product. I was told they could not do anything for us since we were just past the warranty time. I am very disappointed in Samsung and probably won't buy another one.

Best Widescreen TV available
5 Star Review   By member Magicmans01 - May 19, 2009

Strengths: Picture quality,color sharpness,

Weakness: Sound quality could be better. Needs additional amp...

I have had this TV since the beginning of January. I looked at just about every flatscreen LCD and Plasma TV out there and none could stand up to the picture quality that this TV has. Watching this TV makes you feel like you are looking through a window only clearer. The HD quality is top notch. I have a Playstation 3 hooked up and the Grafix are unbelievable. I also use it with Blueray discs and the WOW factor happens. I have friends that have other leading brand flatscreens and they all agree that this TV is top of the class.Any sporting event from Nascar, football, basketballnad on all make you feel like you are right there. I would recommend no other than this TV for everybody!!!

samsung 52" HDTV
5 Star Review

Strengths: Picture quality is great!!! WOW almost 3 dimentional.

Weakness: There aren't any.

This was the easiest TV to install. Take it out of the box and plug it in. The picture quality is excellent and very little reflection even in midday sun. The sound is o.k. but with this quality of the picture I decided to get the samsung surround sound. Beautiful set, clean, sleek, beautiful picture along with excellent sound. Vibrant colors and great definition and depth of picture.

Eye Popping Picture
5 Star Review   By member warrenchu000 - Mar 5, 2009

Strengths: Ultra sharp picture; vivid colors.

Weakness: Slow response to remote control commands; limited use for PIP feature.

The good: I watched the NBA championship and the picture was so incredibly clear and sharp I thought I was there. The colors are so vivid that when I have guests they all say, "Wow!" The bad: The TV takes about 3 seconds to turn on. After it comes on, you cannot change the volume or channel for another 3 seconds - very annoying. Also, although it has a picture-in-picture feature, it only works for a secondary device, like a VCR or cable box. You cannot watch 2 live programs at once because it has only one tuner; there is no swap function for PIP. The slow response time and limited use PIP may be true for all current generation LCD TVs. Bottom line: Get this TV for the picture. The good outweighs the bad by far.

LN52A650 52" LCD TV
4 Star Review   By member Anonymous - Feb 19, 2009

Strengths: The color tone is very natural and vivid.

Weakness: glossy screen

This TV really is one of a kind. I've been researching LCDs for months and months and finally settled for this one. The picture and the touch of color look is unmatched. You might've heard people complain about the shutting off issue, but that issue has been fixed and has been a non-factor. Go check it out at your local electronics store, this thing is a thing of beauty.

Awesome TV
5 Star Review   By HookEmHorns on Buydig.com - Feb 15, 2009

Strengths: Picture, Picture, oh did I mention the Picture. Ease of Use. Great Price!

Weakness: None so far

From the second I turned this tv on my jaw dropped with how awesome the picture is. I have dishnetwork HD programming and I have not been disappointed at all. I have found myself watching college basketball games involving teams that I would never watch to just see the picture clarity. The HD programming on this TV is almost like blu-ray dvd. It is such an amazing tv. Samsung did a great job on this tv!

Great choice
5 Star Review   By Jimbo on Buydig.com - Jan 8, 2009

Strengths: Fantastic picture. Easy intuitive set-up. No manuals required. Stylish look that blends in well.

Weakness: Have had set for 4 weeks and none noted

I did lots of on-line research and box store viewing to decide on this TV. Since review comments were so helpful in my decision I decided to offer mine. This TV has a picture so clear and bright it appears to have a 3D look. Don't worry about the speakers. Has great sound. The red bezel is truly only a "touch" and gives it a classy look that blends into any decor. I was nervous buying a monster like this TV online. I bought smaller items from BuyDig before so took the chance. It arrived within 4 days in perfect order and I would not hesitate to order online if that is a concern to you

Fabulous TV & Company
5 Star Review   By wgoncapec on Buydig.com - Dec 28, 2008

Strengths: Great Picture!!!

I did lots of research before deciding to buy a new flat screen TV. I went back and forth between buying it in the store, LCD or Plasma etc. You cannot go wrong with Buy Dig or with this TV. I couldn't be happier. The picture is the best I've seen from this top rated TV. The Blue Ray picture and HD look like I'm looking out a window at the action, rather than looking at a TV...amazing! Even on standard non HD TV this picture looks really good. The sound is ok, but not as bad as some of the reviews I've seen.

Strengths: Picture quality is outstanding. Ease of use is wonderful

I purchased this almost a year ago. My wife and I will say (even now) can you believe how great the picture is. I always say the cable bill is the only bill I do not mind paying since the Samsung delivers an amazing picture quality. I strongly recommend this TV.

5 Star Review   By alfredo on PC Universe - Nov 22, 2008

Strengths: watching HD football

Weakness: a lil bit of glare

when watching movies with 120Hz on it seems a little fake because it is so clear it feels like you can see the set... I sometimes turn the 120Hz on low when watching a DVD.

Oh my god!!!!
5 Star Review

Strengths: Great picture, Deep blacks, and no blur

Weakness: The TV NONE. The remote is garbage! Samsung should know better.

I got this TV to replace a Samsung 50" DLP that started that nasty buzz. I walked into Sears and was blown away from the great picture and I had to have it!! It was better than the Sony and the Sharp units that were next to it. Because of a huge sale and a mess up on a hand written tag, I got it for $1,700. I also upgraded to a Sony Blu-ray player with HDMI connections. This unit made my Direc-TV standard def channels look great and my few HD channels AMAZING!! I then hooked up my xbox 360 via monster cable componet cables with the setting to 1080p. My games look great with no motion blur due to the 120hz refresh rate. AWESOME!! You could say this was an impulse buy, but after looking at all the reviews and comments about this unit, I guess I did pretty darn good. Oh, and that touch of color thing. Is it supossed to light up? Is there a setting or a switch? Cus mine looks nice but not lit up. oh well it still looks nice.

A really great TV
5 Star Review

Strengths: picture quality, tons of configuration options, general appearance

Weakness: remote, audio, green level

APPEARANCE: The set itself is a nice looking piece of equipment. The Touch of Color feature you will either love or hate. Many TVs have a solid black exterior. This one has burgundy accents that aren’t too intrusive. SETUP: The connection panel on the back is straightforward and well organized. The plastic stand is sturdy, though some will probably wall-mount this set. Either approach will attract dust. CONTROLS: The panel has some surface switches on the front for on/off, volume, and channel but they are fingerprint magnets, and can be completely avoided by using the remote. The thumb wheel on the remote isn’t great, and the remote can't be programmed for other devices. That kind of functionality will require an after-market universal remote. STARTUP: From the time when power-on is pressed until the set displays over the air HD takes perhaps 10 seconds. While waiting, the set plays a series of startup tones through the built-in speakers. The tones can be turned off. INITIAL CONFIGURATION: After turning on the power, the set did a channel search and found all of the HD and analog stations in my area. It would be nice if it let you choose whether to look for HD, analog, or both. Manually deleting the analog stations was tedious but not too difficult. INITIAL CALIBRATION: AVS Forum lists calibration values that can help a lot. Viewing SMTPE color bars from the Digital Video Essentials DVD makes it possible to calibrate blue and red very well. Green appears to be less accurate and unchangeable from regular user menus. It may require help from an ISF professional to correct, or it could be that this is the best the set can do. One forum posters have noted that their ISF calibrator did not need to use any of the pro-only menus. PICTURE VIA HD BROADCAST: Quality via off air HD is excellent, sometimes extraordinary. One local channel has a very high quality broadcast where the news broadcasters look very 3D. There are some overscan issues with some 4:3 broadcast content. PICTURE VIA DVD: With a high quality DVD player and high quality DVDs, the set can produce some very satisfying pictures but they are a notch below HD. PICTURE VIA BLU RAY: On par with broadcast HD. AUDIO: How good can a couple of speakers stuck in a narrow panel be? In this case, it’s not so good. For casual use, it is perhaps adequate, but it will never rival the sound of a decent 5.1 or 7.1 surround system. SUMMARY: This set has few faults, but all of them are minor. There is no doubt that the picture quality is superb -- some of the best I've seen. Would I buy this set again? Yes. In fact, I have. I also own the 40" version of this TV. This is one great set, and is highly recommended.

We love this tv. I looks great and fits nicely on our wall. It was easy to mount. It really has a sharp image and isn't choppy. It has lots of cool features and settings you can change. We bought ours at Buy Dig. The remote looks nice and is easy to use.

Your eyes don't deceive you - it is that good!
5 Star Review   By member gwallville - Sep 17, 2008

Strengths: Picture Quality and many inputs. What else is there?

Weakness: It wasn't free (but still a good value)

Went to the local A/V store (the small expensive kind) to see one and it shined even when compared to some very pricey HDTVs on either side. However the price was pretty steep so I ordered mine from Vanns (they always ship quick) and picked up the extended warranty from extend4less (only $219 for 4 more years). Just watched Rambo (first blood) in blu-ray and somehow this TV overcame the old film quality to look absolutely stunning. Maybe it's the blu-ray too but it didn't look this good on my last set. You should buy one of these and see your HD programming and blu-rays on yet another level of quality.

Great LCD at a great price
5 Star Review

Strengths: This tv has some of the best specs available at a very good price.

Weakness: Poor bass on in-built speakers.

This TV has a great picture - one of the best LCD's pictures I've seen. Even standard def DVD's and TV look good. Great for gaming with the Xbox 360. The preset settings for game mode aren't right and are too dark. It works better on a manual setting - or standard mode. Movie mode is amazing and make the image appear like it is front projected and has a real cinema feel to it. Disappointed with the in-built speakers - poor bass performance and tinny sound. This would not be an issue were it hooked up to a stereo. Overall, very pleased with the purchase and value for money - it has better specs / picture than the current top of the range Sony and a much better price.

5 Star Review   By member bkimtoyou7 - Jul 11, 2008

Strengths: Fantastic picture, beautiful design, HD stations are incredible!!

Weakness: The remote sucks.

This TV is by far the best value for it's capabilities. I compared the Sony 52"LCD TV's to this one and there was no comparison. The quick refresh time of 4ms is the best in the marketplace. Samsung is doing what they do best, making great TV's.......

Let Your "Eyes" Be The Judge
5 Star Review

Strengths: Blown away picture

Weakness: Remote toggle

Went to an upscaled electronic store and in search for the best bang for the buck on a new LCD ( Have been a Sony owner for 20+ years) and after compairing side-by-side the top of the line Sony LCD and Samsung, The Samsung blew it away. The picture for what ever reason seemed to just jump out at you, both were playing the same DVD which made for an even compairison, the Sony had 5 more watts per channel (x2) in the audio department however it was also $700 on the plus side. Seeing that they offerered the same warranty our eyes over ruled our ears, and purchased our first Samsung. Had this TV since 6/08 and it has been a pleasure each and everytime. Like I said let your eyes be the judge.

Weakness: one color available right now

This is a great lcd tv. I did a lot of research before buying something this expensive, and it came down to this and the Sony XBR4. I honestly think the picture on the Samsung is better when sitting side-by-side with the Sony....Plus it's cheaper! I was also debating on size...46 or 52... While the 46 would have sufficed, I'm glad I went with the 52 incase I move into a bigger house or something. If you're on the fence, get off of it and get this tv; you won't regret it.

Outstanding Product Worth Every Penny
5 Star Review   By member Worf101 - Jun 24, 2008

Strengths: Light, slim, extremely programable, well made and amazing picture quality

Weakness: Not cheap

I've owned this LCD for about 2 weeks now and I must say it's some amazing kit. I'm not "cheap" per se just frugal but I must admit that this is about the best purchase I've made in years. Wonderfully versatile with a great picture and with 4 "stretch" modes you're sure to find something that'll make your movie look great. But with confidence, Samsung is great gear.

LOVE THIS TV!
5 Star Review   By member sipkristal - Jun 3, 2008

Strengths: high contrast ratio; 120 hz; plenty of inputs!

Weakness: glossy screen

I've owned this TV for about a week now and absolutely love it! I've been contemplating for months if I should get this TV or the new Sony w4100 but I jumped the gun and purchased this set with no regrets. There are too many good things to say about this TV but my only con would be its glossy screen. Depending on the lighting of your room this may not be an issue but it was for me. Other than that, this TV is probably the best out there right now.

Beautiful
5 Star Review   By member KRny - May 24, 2008

Strengths: Picture quality and brightness; fast-action motion; plug-and-play set up; inputs; low weight

Weakness: Too many menu options; sound quality; slow menu navigation; remote control

First foray into big screen/HD. Not a videophile but picture is great, particularly brightness and contrast ratio. Motion, for example, sports, still pixelates but better than anything else on the market. 120 Hz improves motion (split screen demo mode is neat) but not sure worth extra money. Yes, screen is reflective material but picture brightness makes it irrelevant. Plug and play and convenient inputs makes it easy to set up, but the array of picture menu options is confusing. Who needs all that

Samsung 52A650 TV review
5 Star Review   By member pllchiu - May 22, 2008

Strengths: Great picture! 4 HDMI inputs!

Weakness: Remote wheel sucks!

Truely this Tv has great picture and it upscling of SD content is not bad at all! Lots of inputs and it is not too shiny screen. The only thing I don't like is the remote specifically the wheel since I frequently turn it by mistake. i think it is not a very good design. Otherwise the TV is really good!

Great TV
5 Star Review   By member rdean1111 - May 19, 2008

Strengths: Picture 50,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio 4ms response time 4 HDMI 1.3 ports Side-mounted USB 2.0 port infolink

Weakness: TV has none - Remote's wheel control

Had this TV for a little over a week and can not find a flaw. No blurring noted with the 4ms. DVD's and movies look like your watching real-life. The 650 has a picture with great depth and color from any angle. Much talk has been about the TOC bezel. I think Samsung has hit on a nice effect with the TOC. It adds just a touch of red and sets this tv apart from all others. Most of the time you don't even notice it. I think this is best the LCD on the market

Sensational
5 Star Review   By member SantaClausSenior - May 15, 2008

Strengths: Picture quality both HD and non HD. Built in speakers are great. TOC is beautiful.

I got mine on May 5th. Delivery was excellent. Lots of features and easy to setup and start using right away. I had the cable company install an HD DVR and then also check the signal strength on the cable. Signal was low, so the cable guy put in an amplifier. Analog shows look very good. HD is amazing on this TV. If you register your warranty On line then Samsung gives you an extra 3 months of warranty. If you buy with VISA you might also get an extra free year of warranty from VISA. I think Mastercard does the same. I'm currently using video cables and the picture is perfect. The remote is made for the hand and easy to use.

Glossy screen is beautiful but reflective
5 Star Review   By member sydanyc - May 13, 2008

Strengths: Glossy Screen. Deep Blacks. Bright Whites. No noticeable TBE. Perfect for fast gaming.

Weakness: Glossy Screen. Reflective. Red TOC may not match your setup.

The glossy screen is a matter of contention for some viewers. In a dark room, it works perfectly, but as soon as it gets bright be careful of reflections. It gets annoying seeing yourself in the tv during the daytime, but I guess this has been a sticking point with TV's for years now. The anti-reflective coating on this TV is better than those of prior years. I must also comment on how good this picture is, so much so I upgraded from the 46" to the 52" knowing that I'd be holding on to this puppy for a good time to come. Gaming is as good here, if not better, than on my plasma. Highly recommended.

Samsung LN52A650 LCD TV
5 Star Review   By member acchen - May 9, 2008

Strengths: Clarity is superb, especially with Blu Ray discs hooked up via HDMI. The color tone is very natural and vivid.

Weakness: Screen and edges easily smudged and not easy to clean. But it's all just cosmetics, the real beauty is the picture.

Awesome tv, replaces my Sharp Aquos 52d62
5 Star Review   By member ec8r1 - May 7, 2008

Strengths: Awesome in almost every single way, excellent picture, 120HZ, plenty of inputs

Weakness: Click wheel on remote is hard to get use to and lacks tactile feel.

This is by far the best tv i've owned. I thought my previous Sharp Aquos was good but this blows that out of the water. No issues like the Sharp with banding. 120hz really makes bluray movies stand out. I did have the issue some people have the the tv set restarting on its own but that was quickly fixed with a firmware update. The Touch of Color goes well with my black/red themed living room but may not work for all people. The price on this tv seems to be dropping right now, there's no reason for everyone not to get one!

Great LCD, but a few minor drawbacks
5 Star Review   By member HarieB - May 1, 2008

Strengths: The color and contrast will blow you away. The colors are vivid and rich that I had to turn it down from the factory settings. The AMP feature makes the images look 3D.

Weakness: The remote sucks. Very cheap look and feel. Only one RF antenna input.

The Good - Best LCD picture I have ever seen. There's no comparison to my previous plasma and to the previous Samsung LCD models that I've seen from friends and family that owns them. There are many different settings to tweak the image quality but will takes some time to learn. The AMP mode makes the images pop out at you, never seen so much depth from a TV before. The Bad - The remote has a wheel similar to the ipods, but much much cheaper. The wheel is very lose and can't seem to control it easily. Sometimes when I spin the wheel, it doesn't move the cursor until I spin it faster, then it'll move but will jump beyond the selection I wanted. Once I program the Harmony, this remote will go into the drawer with the rest. The manual can do a better job of explaining all the image settings. It just tells you how to turn a feature on/off, but don't explain what the feature does or how it affects the image. But there's always google. The red touch of color is subtle during the day and at night when the lights are dimmed. However, if the lights are fully turned on, the whole frame becomes cherry color. Can be good or bad, but really depends on personal taste. If you plan to connect your PC to this LCD, I advise that you don't label the HDMI2 input as PC. You'll lose a lot of the image settings. Instead, just don't label the input and let the TV think it's connected to a DVD or any external unit. Set you PC display to 1920x1080 @ 60hz. Then set the picture size on the LCD to "just scan". This way, you don't have any overscan issues and you can take advantage of all the image settings.

Samsung series 6 review
2 Star Review   By member mrosenberg2812 - May 1, 2008

Strengths: Exterior casing is very attractive with maroon tinited frame

Weakness: Picture quality on lower channels is very grainy

I also own a 3 year old plasma and assumed this new 52" LCD would be far superior to my older plasma. I was very mistaken. Even with a high end DVD, the picture is maybe as good as my older plasma. Only in certain HD channels, mainly in exterior scenes, is the picture quality exceptional. Most of the time, I have been very dissappointed in the picture clarity.

The BEST LCD HDTV on the Market Today!
5 Star Review   By member jonalind - Apr 28, 2008

Strengths: 50,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio Blazing 4ms response time 4 HDMI 1.3 ports Side-mounted USB 2.0 port

Weakness: Since I'm not using the built in TV tuner I would like to disable the TV source completely. Have yet to find a way to do that.

Had this TV since very early March and can not find a flaw. Blurring and other artifacts are virtually non-existant. Film based DVD's and movies look like your watching real-life, viewing it through a window. The 650 has a picture with great depth and color from any angle, greatly adding to the immersion effect. This screen is slightly less reflective than Samsung's 71 series but can still be a problem for some. Other makers use a matte screen that helps the problem but introduces other negatives. Much talk has been about the TOC bezel. I think Samsung has hit on a nice added effect. It adds just a touch of red and sets this tv apart from all others. However, the picture already does that! Most of the time you don't even notice it. SUMMARY: This is best the LCD on the market.

The Best LCD TV in the world to date!!
5 Star Review   By member dklim - Apr 23, 2008

Strengths: Deep black, 120Hz refresh rate, Ultra clear Pannel for the deep color, 4 ms response time, astonishing 50,000:1 contrast ratio, full 1080P HDTV quality, Great 5.1 audio performance

I would call this TV as "THE BEST TV" in the world to date because of its excellent quality. The picture quality of this TV is just mind blowing. I hooked up number of different components to this TV set via HDMI. For an example, XBOX 360 Elite (HDMI connection with 1080P setting) demonstrated what this TV can really do. The black was very deep unlike other major brand LCD TVs such as SONY, Panasonic or Sharp. I felt like I was watching the picture via a professional CRT monitor instead of a conventional LCD (via LCD, I tend to see grayish black). Thanks to its Ultra Clear Panel technology with outrageous 50,000:1 contrast ratio. The 120 Hz refresh rate and fast response time made this TV's picture even more amazing. Because the XBOX360 handled stereo for audio via HDMI connection, I utilized a separate optical fiber connection from XBOX360 directly to my amplifier to get 5.1/7.1 sounds. However, the 5.1 Dolby digital sounds from some of the HD broadcasts via optical output was fascinating (This TV handles 5.1 audio via its optical output beautifully!). When screen size gets bigger (over 50 inches), the picture quality tends to get worse due to the fact that moving pictures look fuzzy (This is especially true on any LCD TV with 60Hz refresh rate with slower response time). However, this TV never showed such problems at all. Its performance was purely jaw dropping. I was extremely pleased with its stellar performance! The stylish Touch of Color design made this TV looks like a work of art. So even when this TV is off, it looks beautiful in my living room!

Great picture, great features, but not perfect
3 Star Review   By member elaurence - Apr 15, 2008

Strengths: Beautiful picture, lots of connections (3 HDMI on rear, 1 on side)

Weakness: Screen too shiny, doesn't output 5.1 audio, remote won't control my other devices

Overall I am satisfied with this purchase. The picture is beautiful and that's the main point. Some annoyances, however: unlike my prior 52" Sharp 52D92U (which has just been discontinued and hence why I tried the Samsung), the screen is very reflective, and so if the room is bright or if there is an unshaded window, you'll see annoying reflections on the screen. The Sharp has more of a matte finish and doesn't exhibit this problem. Will need to put opaque blinds in the windows, and use them if watching during the day. I thought one of the advantages of LCD over Plasma is that the front of the LCD screen is plastic instead of glass, making it less reflective. I guess that is true, but only if you use non-reflective plastic! The other annoyance is the way it handles audio out. I route several HDMI signals into the TV, and then wanted to connect the TV to my Denon amp via the digital audio out. Problem is that it will only output stereo audio not 5.1, so I'm forced to route audio directly to the amp. This is a major hassle, since now I have to change the source both at the TV and the amp (my Denon is a couple years old so doesn't handle HDMI). So now I'm going to finally spring for the Harmony One unified remote to try to address this issue. Would be nice if all of these new TVs could be much more "amp-friendly".
