Pioneer Elite PRO-940HD Plasma Television Review
5 Star Review  audioholics.com - Apr 5, 2007

This plasma television is a cut above the rest. I've used several entry level models and it's easy to think that you can get a much cheaper flat panel display... and you can. But when you add up the features, look at the quality and sit back for a preview, you quickly realize that there is more to a flat panel display than simply being flat. Pioneer's Elite PRO-940HD is a diamond among other precious stones (and some unpolished pieces of quartz). I started out by saying that "It's All About the Blacks..." and that's true, but with the additional features, you'll find yourself quickly justifying the additional expense to get away from the entry level models.

Pioneer Elite PureVision PRO-940HD
5 Star Review   By member jmlasker - Nov 9, 2007

Strengths: Excellent picture from a great looking TV

Weakness: TV Guide Interactive Program Guide is not very user friendly.

I've had Pro-940HD for 4 months, and get excited everytime I watch it. This plasma HDTV is far superior to my former unit, a Pioneer PDP-4350, in terms of picture quality. The blacks are truly black, not dark grey, and the color palette is outstanding. The unit itself is very good looking, although I wouldn't have minded if Pioneer had kept the media receiver for inputs rather than going into the panel itself.

Highly Recommend
5 Star Review   By member newtoyou607 - Jun 26, 2007

Strengths: Great picture clarity can see just as good from side viewing as well from front.

Weakness: Slight buzz in the back of the unit. Can not hear from a distance, only when you listen towards the back of the unit (like adjusting a cable)

I highly recommend this product. I did a lot of research and found this to be the best clarity and realiability so far out in the market. The plasma is flawless in viewing whether it is watching TV or a great movie. It is easy to set up and has great features.

Pioneer Elite PureVision PRO-940HD 42
5 Star Review   By member bobmudd - May 30, 2007

Strengths: Picture clarity, pure color, excellent gray/black contrasts, great fast motion tracking, easy to watch

Weakness: Expensive

We had just purchased a high quality 42" LCD and noticed that you could not see the wrinkles or seams on a dark jacket in a night time setting. In addition the LCD set could not track fast motion (i.e.. basketball games) and was hard on the eyes (too bright, etc.). So we returned it and purchased the PRO-940HD !!!WOW!!!, This TV is easy to watch, colors are brilliant, but not overwhelming, the gray/black contrast is better than an an old Sony tube set. This set is impressive.

Great televison
5 Star Review   By member schwaboys - May 24, 2007

Strengths: Easy menu, vivid colors, factory 2-year warrantee,

Weakness: reflective frame. Some ports will be difficult to connect if already mounted.

It's loaded with features: Cable Card tuner Microsoft media inteface intuitive menus learning remote Lighted remote Inputs scan for input signal on periferal interconnects and choose best source. I believe this automatic. Don't know how to force using specific video interfaces yet.

Very good TV I have ever seen
5 Star Review   By member billykao - May 16, 2007

Strengths: Media Center Gallery for avi file, good SD quality, not easy to burn in with special protection, not expensive price for the best tv in the world

Weakness: Buzz from the rear

I got this one for one week. The PQ is excellent watching HD channels. PQ on SD channels is better than my expectation. No snow or noise on the screen under 480i mode. My favorite function is the home network connection that you can watch digital files in your PC. Because there is no DA conversion, the picture quality is awesome even watching VCDs. The best point is that it takes avi files, and I don't need to have a Philips DVD player for my collections. This is the big plus for this TV. Before using the function, I need to run media player v11 and drag the files to the library. It is very easy to use. The black panel is also pretty. If you are watching 4:3 source, you will see black and white images on both sides, instead of two black pillars. Then you won't suffer uneven brightness on the screen. The bad is that I can hear the buzz behind the tv. The brighter the screen, the louder the noise. I think it is because it consumes more energy in bright scene. But I can hear nothing in front of the tv. So the buzz is fine for me. The most important thing is that buy it from authorized store to get 2 years warranty. I love this TV. It is the best!

Simply The Best
5 Star Review

Strengths: Spectacular picture quality

Weakness: A little pricy

Let's face it, $2000 for a TV is a lot of dough ! But if you're gonna shell out that kind of money it's nice to know that you'll get the quality and performance you'd expect at that price range. If you're shopping for a Plasma TV you won't find anything out there better than Pioneer's Elite series. I first saw one at Circuit City and could not believe the picture quality. I then started doing my homework and reading the reviews. That's exactly what you should do. Google "reviews Pioneer PRO-940HD" and see what the experts are saying. I've had the TV for about 2 weeks and couldn't be happier. Standard Def looks great, High Def looks truly spectacular, and even the audio is outstanding. The Media Center was amazingly easy to setup and we had some fun with this right away. After I connected the TV to the home network I walked away to get some lunch. My wife yells out to me that her laptop is displaying a message that says some Pioneer Media Center thing would like access to her files ! I start laughing and assure her that she should say "allow". After lunch I go check to see if the set actually found anything and was amazed to see that ALL of the family photos on the wife's laptop were available for viewing. Pretty cool stuff, but I really knocked their socks off when I launched an entire movie that I have stored on my own PC. I purchased the set from Vann's and was very pleased with the level of service they provided. If you're going to order online to save a few bucks, I highly recommend them. If you've decided to buy a plasma set, do yourself a favor and research the Pioneer Elite series. Sure you can find simular specs for less money but read what the experts say and take it from me, you haven't seen anything until you’ve seen one of these.

STUNNING PICTURE, ELEGANT LOOK
5 Star Review   By member Mimi358 - Mar 21, 2007

Strengths: INCREDIBLE PICTURE. Recent price drop. Pioneer quality. Beautiful, glossy black "face" is elegant in my home. Sound is clear and mellow.

Weakness: None !

I was so happy to find the cost of the incredible Pioneer Pro Elite had been improved. I have a limited (41.5) wide space and thought I would havve to "settle" for a lesser quality TV until I found Pioneer PRO-940HD plasma which has a 42in screen in a 41" case. The picture is amazing and the case is simply elegant...a beautiful piano black...no distracting silver trim. Found it from my local home theater store which gives exceptional personal service. The price for the quality was great....$2500. I LOVE this TV!
