Panasonic Viera TC-P55ST50 55" 3D Plasma TV

1920x1080, HDTV, 3D - MPN: TCP55ST50
Product Details
Description
Active Shutter Progressive 3D Method The display alternately shows images for the left and right eyes. The left and right lenses of the eyewear open and close in sync with this display timing to show separate images to the left and right eyes. By repeating this action at high speed, the brain perceives 3D images. And because this method displays FULL HD 3D images just as they are, both eyes receive 3D images in high, full-HD quality. 2,500 Focused Field Drive This original Panasonic technology detects image movements like the human eye, and optimizes the drive accordingly. By achieving instantaneously powerful light emission rather than finely divided emission, it reduces the afterimages that cause blurring. As a result, fast movement is reproduced with excellent clarity.

Panasonic TC-P55ST50
4 Star Review cnet.com - Mar 28, 2012

THE GOOD: The affordable Panasonic TC-PST50 series exhibited outstanding overall picture quality, characterized by exceedingly deep black levels with great shadow detail, accurate colors, and solid bright-room performance. Unlike LCDs, as a plasma it has superb off-angle and uniformity characteristics. The styling is attractive and the feature set well-chosen, including excellent onscreen help options. THE BAD: The ST50 uses more power than competing LCD TVs, and doesnt perform as well in bright rooms as those with matte screens. It doesnt include 3D glasses, and 3D picture quality showed more crosstalk than many competitors models. The ST50 is only available in 50-inch and larger sizes. Three HDMI inputs is one fewer than most midrange TVs offer. THE BOTTOM LINE: With flagship-level picture quality for a midlevel price, the Panasonic ST50 series sets the value standard among videophile-grade TVs.

Best HD Cinema TV vs the Competition
5 Star Review By Louis123 on HP - Mar 2, 2013

This TV is providing my family with the best HD cinema and sports action in 2D, 2D to 3D conversion, and 3D at the best price point. I have owned several other panasonic TV's because of their reliablility. Save yourself a lot of time searching. If you are buying a TV at this price point buy it now and your family won't be disapointed with either the quality of the HD or the savings in the price from HP.

Quite impressed - good bang for buck
5 Star Review By MackeyC34 on HP - Nov 23, 2012

I've only had this TV for a couple of weeks but so far I am impressed with its quality, performance, and features. I am a fan of Plasma over LCD / LED as it seems to be more natural looking. To my eyes LCD / LED's are too 'digital' while plasma seems to have a smoother display. Out of the box you will want to work with some of the default picture settings based on where you actually place the TV. I found several websites with suggestions for this specific unit and after some trial and error have arrived at good combination of settings that match my environment in terms of lighting and viewing conditions.Your mileage 'will' vary - so plan on doing at least a little bit of tweaking for your specific environment. It's easy to do with a little help and guidance from our friends on the web. I did not purchase this TV for it's 3D or Internet capabilites and while I won't make regular use of 3D (to me it is little more than an interesting experiment), I've found the 2D to 3D conversion of standard TV and DVD's fairly good . I've yet to play a native 3D BluRay movie so I can't comment on that. The 3D glasses are expensive (hint - find a deal on ebay ) and a little on the flimsy side - but they work. I bought them mostly for the kids and will encourage them frequently to be careful with them as these are the active shutter 3D types and not the cheap passive things they are used to tossing in a bin at the end of a movie. Keep i nmind I'm only a couple of weeks into my experience at this point, but overall I think this TV is a very good value for the price.

Best set I've ever owned
4 Star Review By member SuperPowerUser - Mar 20, 2012

Strengths: extremely deep blacks and a wealth of picture settings, web options and apps are easy to navigate, Motion is extremely quick and smooth

Weakness: There is no yet

I Returned 6 led tv's over the past 3 months. All had problems with the picture. I finally decided to try Plasma and boy I'm glad I did. No backlight bleeding, blooming or screen uniformity issues. Panny makes a great set with extremely deep blacks and a wealth of picture settings. The web options and apps are easy to navigate. I also like the stand because you can adjust the tilt slightly as most other sets tend to lean to one side or the other with no way to make adjustments. Motion is extremely quick and smooth and I actually prefer to turn the enhance motion feature off. This set is well worth the money. Please take my advice and think twice before purchasing LED sets, especially if you're a TV purist. I use to be a Sony loyalist and I am now converting everything over to Panasonic solely because of this set.
