Panasonic TC-P50X1
3 Star Review  cnet.com - Apr 22, 2009

THE GOOD: Relatively inexpensive; excellent black-level performance; solid connectivity with three HDMI and two component-video inputs. THE BAD: Inaccurate primary colors of green and red; faint diagonal lines visible in lighter areas; sparse picture controls; less efficient than similar LCDs. THE BOTTOM LINE: Although it requires more than a few picture quality tradeoffs, the Panasonic TC-P50X1 delivers the best black-levels-to-dollars ratio of any HDTV weve tested.

Strengths: Incredible, Awesome picture

This is an awesome TV. I had compared 720p and 1080p side by side and could not see a difference. You beat this TV for the price.

Great TV for gaming...
5 Star Review   By PrayerfulDrop on Beach Camera - Dec 8, 2009

Strengths: Crisp colors and large screen.

Do your research on 720p vs 1080p. My living room we are about 13 ft away from the TV and 720p rocks! 1080p only has an advantage if you are between 5-8 ft away. See no issues in gaming. Beautiful TV and worth the price! I recommend it for any gamer out there.

Best 50" 720 Plasma!
5 Star Review   By jermmcd on 6th Ave Electronics - Nov 29, 2009

Strengths: Connectivity, color, blacks, size, sound, and very sturdy.

Weakness: Remote control design and layout

I bought this just prior to Black Friday. The price was as good as anything that I would have WANTED to wait in line at 1 AM in the morning to get, but the reputation of this TV is the main reason I decided to buy. I read all of the reviews, so I knew I could handle the cons (so few...!). First, I must say, I ordered the TV expecting it to take a week or more to arrive, but received it 3 days after the order. It was double boxed with no chance of damage occurring. Out of the box, the TV is immediately impressive. It really is heavier than other 50" teles, due to solid components. There are plenty of connectivity options for today's home theaters, as wells as some nice old school options! The connection panel is conveniently located and easy to connect all cables. Once the TV was turned on, it really did surprise me with the brilliance of the blacks and the vivid colors. I have the TV about 10 feet from the couch and the picture is magnificant! However, veiwing it at about 4 feet, you can see the difference between 720P and 1080P. For my size room and seating distance, there is no discernable difference between 720P and 1080P, the only difference being the giant savings for buying this tele. I've watched movies (non-Blu-Ray), standard definition television and HD television, and plenty of sports. The fast movement is amazingly impressive with the 600 hz sub field drive, crystal clear with virtually no "ghosting". All of the movie scenes where the screen should have been black, but were previously dark gray on my other tele's, are DARK BLACK on this set. Dark Knight was immensely better on this set than I have ever seen before. In all, this set was the best value given its performace, size, reputation, and durability. The ONLY negative I have for the tele is the remote, it's controls are attrocious, but, hey, who really uses their tv remote anymore!!

Great TV. Do not hesitate to buy
5 Star Review

Strengths: Great picture, size, nice design

Weakness: Only has digitial out(fiber optical) cable so it's hard to hook up to your surround sound if older. Must have fiber optical inputs on your surround sound system or buy hard to find converter.

I read and researched for awhile before buying. This is a GREAT tv with excellent picture as long as you are more than 7 feet away. Just like the expert reviews say it looks a little grainy and you can see the pixels if you are close, but cannot tell if you are more than 7 feet away. You cannot tell between 1080 and 720 if you are 7 feet or farther. I'm really picky and am very pleased with my purchase. I paid $880 total and it's even cheaper now. No regrets. Great price but this TV and enjoy.

Wonderful TV... Especially for the Price!
5 Star Review   By socialpar35 on Buydig.com - Oct 6, 2009

Strengths: Great Picture, surprisingly good speakers, easy set up

Weakness: Fixed based, limited adjustment options

I waited until 2009 to buy a plasma (or LCD for that matter) tv because I thought they were overhyped. Furthermore, if I did not have HD, I felt that my old tube tvs had a better picture, and didn't cost me $1k+. Well, this tv has an amazing picture, truly high quality. My friends had a cheaper LG LCD tv, and that made me not want to buy a tv. But this has a great picture, especially with HD, and it was easy to set-up. I would recommend this. I've had it for about 2 months so far. The only complaint I have is with buydig, not the tv. The first tv I recieved was broken. Then, when they brought the replacement tv, they wouldn't take back the broken tv. So I have two of the same tvs in my house, and one has a broken plasma panel, and is just sitting in the front of my house.

Excellent Plasma TV!!!!!
4 Star Review

Strengths: Price, great picture, nice looks

Weakness: no video or audio out so I cannot hook up my system to it for surround sound

I read a lot of reviews before purchasing. I was a little worried about not being 1080p, but even the experts say it is VERY hard to tell between 720p and 1080p from more than 7 feet away. It may not have all the bells and whistles some of the other ones do, but they cost atleast $400 more and the picture is just as good on this TV. Buy this TV you will not regret it.

ONLY PANASONIC AGAIN
5 Star Review   By member bullone - May 29, 2009

Strengths: GREAT WITH WIDE SCREEN MOVIES

I have owned an earlier version of this HDTV (50 inch)for nearly two years, and watch over 250 movies per year. The comments made in an earlier review concerning wide-screen movies are completely without merit. I watch a new movie almost every night (Netflix customer) and most of them are wide-screen (meaning there is some black at the bottom and the top). There is no PERMANENT IMAGE RETENTION PROBLEM (lines at top and bottom). It is TEMPORARY and will go away if you watch TV for five minutes. I also have a "white picture" on an SD card to clean up the screen in a minute or so, but I really don't need to use it. I take all of my camera pictures in 16:9 and display them on the screen directly from the SD card. The pictures are fantastic. As for 720p, my son in law owns a 1080p Panasonic 50 incher, and if you sit more than 7ft. away from the screen, it is nearly impossible to tell the difference. I also own a smaller LCD (Toshiba)that is on the wall in the kitchen, so I am familiar with both technologies. My impression is that Plasma gives better colors, blacker blacks, better action performance, and is preferable for sizes 50 inches and up. LCD's are great for 37 inches or less, and it is a tossup in the 42-47 inch range.

Never Panasonic Again
1 Star Review   By Never Panasonic Again on Beach Camera - May 22, 2009

Strengths: Great picture

Weakness: Not for movies, Poor customer service, Terrible manual

I thought I did adequate research before deciding on this Plasma TV. I was aware of image retention or "burn-in", but had read that newer Plasma TVs were less prone to it than older sets. I downloaded and read Panasonics manual before purchasing the TV. The manual raised more questions than it answered, so I called Panasonic tech support on numerous occasions. I was never told that watching wide screen movies on this TV would cause permanent image retention. At least not until it was too late. When I first stated calling, I was told that all I had to do was use the horizontal scrolling bar to remove any image. Now that my TV is ruined after one month of use, everyone I talk to at Panasonic tells me that I should not be watching wide screen movies on a plasma TV. No one at Panasonic cares about my situation or the damage to my TV. I have provided Panasonic every opportunity to make this situation right. They don't care about me and chances are they won't care about you if you have a problem either. This TV is probably fine if you don't plan to watch movies.

Strengths: Great movie like picture, screen size and value for your money, Energy Star compliant, most reliable plasma brand on the market

Weakness: Free shipping... UPS shipped mine upside down but I was assured it was not a big issue by Panasonic and 6ave

I used picture settings found at www.avsforum.com... and this thing rocks for the money. For under $1,000 you can't get a better picture or larger screen. Well worth it for the budget consumer tha

5 Star Review   By member Midas6740 - Mar 5, 2009

Strengths: Sharp, vivid picture; Easy set up; Good price!

After doing plenty of research I bought the Panasonic tcp50x1,a 50" model. What a great set! The picture quality is excellent, right up there with the 1080p sets and $400.00 less. The resolution is actually 1368x768p on the 50"set(the 1024x768p refers to the 42" model). Set up was simple and the price(on sale for $879.00)is hard to beat! Why pay more for a 1080p set-go to you neighborhood store and compare pictures yourself. It's worth a look-(faster, uses less power, with a better picture than last years th50px80u)-check it out! I love mine!!
