WOW, WHAT A PICTURE
5 Star Review   By member hutch816 - Feb 29, 2008

Strengths: THE BEST I FOUND SHOPPING BETWEEN LCD & PLASMA, TO ME THIS HAS THE BEST PICTURE OF ANY SET I LOOKED AT.

Weakness: TO MY EARS, THE AUDIO WAS NOT WHAT I THOUGHT WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THIS PRICE SET, I DID NOT NOTICE IT IN THE SHOWROOM WITH ALL THE AMBIENT NOISE, BUT AT HOME IT WAS LESS THAN I HAD EXPECTED.

After I installed the Bose Cinemate Audio system, now the sound is great and next I installed a Blu-ray DVD player, so the DVD's in the Blu-ray format are excellent. So I would recommend this set to family and friends, as to me is the best on the market.

Unbelievable HDTV
5 Star Review   By member Tonythed - Jun 6, 2007

Strengths: Picture, looks

The picture is unsurpassed. I couldn't be happier with the set. Comments like "this is the best picture I've ever seen". Settings out of the box are a little to vivid, and you should reset to the settings recommended by the expert review. Out of the box, the picture was good, but looked a little grainy. Once reset, everything looks perfect, even on standard stations. Picture on HD is so real looks like you could walk into the set. Speakers are quite good, especially if you increase the bass and treble settings to +5 (set at 0 out of the box). Great set, and for the $, can't be beat.

No regrets!
4 Star Review   By member adkot - Apr 30, 2007

Strengths: Standard Definition looks good. 2 HDMI ports. Better than average sound. The TV itself looks good. Everything you would ever need.

Weakness: Nothing is perfect, but everything is good to very good.

I decided to write this review covering many aspects not easily found elsewhere. Please read on... . My Criteria: 1) Flat panel. 2) Standard Def had to also look good, which all HDTVs suffer in. 3) PC desktop had to look nice and clear. 4) All the options I'd ever need in case I think of something more I want later. I don't want to be stuck wishing I would've gotten something else. 5) $1000 6) under 100lbs (any brand considered) . How the TH-42PX600U met the above: 1,2) Chose plasma because it supposedly has near cinema quality playback. I chose Panasonic because standard def was considered the best (though still not like a regular CRT) 3)I learned that almost any TV could be made to look good if you use your DVI output and do lots of tweaking. Reviews stated satisfactory viewing with this TV. 4) Tons of connections. There's no way I'd ever need all or even some of them, but you never know, and that security is good. 5) In early March, the prices dipped low enough that I couldn't refuse the better equipped 600U ($1300) over the 60U ($995). Bought from Buydig and it was delivered into my apartment. Delivery guy opened the box and inspected it himself before I signed anything. THUMBS UP! 6) about 90 lbs. I can move it myself, especially because it has a VERY sturdy stand. But moving it by yourself is not recommended. . . Now for my experience with it. This is my setup and I'm very happy: . -No external sound system -Playstation 2 Slim hooked up with component cables. (btw, you can set some of the newer models for progressive playback. google for more) -PC hooked up with DVI-HDMI cable - geforce 6800 XT set to output 1080i -no cable service of any kind (except cable modem). . --The sound from the TV sounds great when you play with the settings. I have most things turned off but surround sound. You can hear buzzing if you're close enough and play it loud enough. Bass is pretty clear. --The PS2 games look a little more edgy but are still satisfactory from my couch 10 feet away. --The PC is excellent (much tweaking required) and I'm watching upconverted DVDs and DivX files, playing mp3s, surfing the net, making excel spreadsheets... again, I must warn that a whole lot of tweaking is required. Search for HTPC forums (home theater PCs) for help. If you want simple, VGA is good but not recommend for this TV. . *I must note that proper viewing distance for TVs is imperative for objective reviews. If I sit 5ft away from this TV, standard def can look pretty rough on low quality DVDs and games. But at 10ft, I'm happy* . Other things of note worthiness: -Don't be turned off by it's native res of 1024x768. It'll still look great. -Pixar movies such as Cars and Monsters, Inc. have THX optimizer to help you calibrate your TV. Not suggested though until after inital 100 hours of viewing with all settings at 0. -Don't be so worried about burn in issues. Just don't leave your TV stagnant for more than 5 minutes or so... not so hard right? BTW, this goes for all tv's except LCDs. . If you're very picky, you will not be completely happy with this TV, but I bet you'll be happier with this one than any other. . Enjoy!

Best TV We've ever Owned!
5 Star Review   By member cosmicrayola - Mar 11, 2007

Strengths: Beautiful picture in regular TV mode, but we are now using the Cable Card and the Discovery channel on HDTV will blow you away! Unbelievable picture. Excellant sound.

Weakness: None found yet.

We are so happy with this that we are now looking for a 32" for the bedroom. In our area, we are able to use the online TV guide and it is great. The price beats most any other set we looked at and with the extended warranty, we are good for 4 years of in-house service. We purchased the warranty from the manufacturer and it was pretty pricey, but all-in-all, I would buy this set again and I definately recommend it to all. Easy setup and controls too.

Excellent HDTV set & with a price tag that will keep you smiling. Its an amazing set.
5 Star Review   By member hitenc - Feb 19, 2007

Strengths: Looks, HDMI inputs, Cable Card & SD Card inputs, Sound (for a TV...its pretty good), Price, and then there is the Picture Quality - which in my opinion is unmatched by any other TVs

Weakness: None so far

So the TV has great looks and the black panel on the frame makes it look simply stunning. The sound is great and so are the multiple inputs provide. It also has a cable card and an SD card slot - which is nice plus. However an HDTV should really be all about the picture and that’s why you should really buy this one. So here is the deal - I spent nearly 8 months researching several HDTVs...essentially only Plasma technology...and to cut the long story short the Panasonic TH-PX600U TVs are simply the best on the market right now. I was looking to get a 42" and I don’t thing there is a better one out there than the 42-THPX600U. There are 2 basic things I considered...how does it perform on HDTV signal and then on Standard Def...since most of the channels these days are still standard def. The Panasonic 600U's performance is stellar on both counts... HDTV looks so lifelike that you could be forgiven for walking into the screen. It is so lifelike and the colors, picture, definition is so good that I cannot write it in words and do justice. You really have to see it to believe it. I compared the TV side by side to several others (@ Magnolia…which carries the more premium end TVs) and the only TV that matched the Panasonic in terms of picture quality was the Pioneer PDP and that was nearly $1000 bucks more expensive. The blacks on the Panasonic are simply unmatched. On the Standard Def...the biggest problem with most HDTV’s is that the picture looks terrible. No sir not with the Panasonic..the picture was amongst the best if not "the best" standard def picture on a HDTV plasma set that I have seen. The picture still looked great! The Price that it comes at makes it simply a no brainer. I ordered mine online and paid $1300+ for this set...and $ for $ - I don’t think there exists a better plasma set out there.

5 Star Review   By member sandymogul - Feb 11, 2007

Strengths: picture quality, sound

Weakness: some glare as all plasmas

This is a great plasma tv. The color quality is terrific and as good as the Fujitsu which is twice the price. As with all plasmas the picture will get glare off of the set if there is a lot of light in the room. Having the cable card slot is great so that you can get all of the HD stations without the box. I would recommend this set.

Strengths: Seems solid, great picture

Weakness: Worried 'bout them fans

Well, buyer beware all the hurdles you will have to avoid when ordering mail order. Extra warranties, extra wires, extra surge protectors, upgraded shipping, it goes on and on. If you can get through all that nonsense, you will be rewarded with a great set. Actually, my first criteria when shopping was I wanted the SD camera card input. This brought me to Panasonic, and I don't know if any others have it!

Excellent TV
5 Star Review   By member pweiss - Dec 19, 2006

Strengths: Great picture, easy to set up, compact pedistal vs 60U

After more than a year of research we decided that this was the model. The HDTV picture is crystal clear, plenty of inputs accommodates anything we can think of and ease of switching inputs is great. 720p and 480p(DVDs) also look great. Standard Def is also very good since I bet Standard Def will still be most of your TV viewing The speakers are great and unless you want a 5.1 system fit the bill. One point to keep in mind if you are setting this up on the included pedestal it is a two person job!! Also don't forget to attach the included anti-tip straps to the TV and whatever you are placing it.

Strengths: All of the features which I was looking for in a Plasma TV with 7 days a week technical support.

Panasonic has a concierge service for new owners of the Panasonic plasma TV. This service was invaluable in setting up the TV with the other non-Panasonic components including a cable/dvr receiver, surround sound receiver and dvd player.

Panasonic TH-42PX600U 42 Inch Plasma HDTV
5 Star Review   By member Panasonic42inch Plasma - Dec 12, 2006

Strengths: Well packed, easy to attach base and begin watching. Picture in 1080i looks like you can walk into it. Sound from side-mounted speakers is great. TV Guide channel useful to find programming.

Weakness: None found so far.

Watched the all-time classic "Wizard of Oz" in 1080i on TNT and picture had unbelievable depth. HDTV received properly from Terk HDTV antenna, as well as from cable. Suggest changing picture settings from preset "Vivid" to "Standard" and adjust to your preferences. To further adjust picture settings without buying a calibration DVD, use THX Optimizer from a DVD such as Disney's "Cars". Like this so much I may put this 42 inch in the bedroom and buy the TH-50PX600U 50 inch model instead for the living room.

Panasonic TH-42PX600U
5 Star Review

Strengths: Picture quality, sound, ease of use

Weakness: Stand

I did a lot of research before buying this TV and the picture quality and sound system are actually better than I expected. True to the reviews, I don't believe there is another TV on the market that can compete with the quality of this TV at anywhere near this price range. My only issue is with the TV stand. The stand projects further out in front of the TV to counterbalance the weight and may make it difficult for installation of a center channel speaker resting on the same surface that the TV sits on. This is a minor complaint about an otherwise fantastic TV.

5 Star Review   By member kcheng1201 - Dec 5, 2006

Strengths: clear bright picture quality 2 HDMI inputs PC input

Weakness: could have problems with burn in

This TV has really great picture quality. I've done quite a lot of research and believe this has the best value. However, you may experience some problems with burn in. I think this is only true for the first 100 hours when the screen is most susceptible. Example: I hooked up my computer to the TV and played a game...Noticed after I switch back to the regular TV mode, I saw some "ghosting" on the screen... Overall....I think this is the best TV for your money...Just have to be careful about how you treat the unit for the first few hundred hours.

As Promised...
5 Star Review   By member mdw1477 - Nov 19, 2006

Strengths: Great picture, better than expected sound

Weakness: None so far

Bought this TV for my low light rec room. Picture is incredible....can't believe how much better it is than the comparable Panasonic ED model that I got a couple of years ago. Looked at the new Samsung 1080p DLP, but didn't like the viewing angle issue...and regardless think that the picture on the Panasonic plasma is much better and crisper anyway. Very easy to set up too... Couldn't be happier.

Questions Re: the 42PX600U
5 Star Review   By member chatrbx2 - Oct 29, 2006

We are looking to purchase a 42" HD Plasma TV, seriously looking at this TV. Read a review on a Samsung re: burn problem after 2 1/2 - 3 hrs. of TV being on. What is it and is it a permanent situation? This is a major concern with all day football. Is this a problem with the Panasonic, just Samsung or all HD TVs? You mention a cable card or box, not applicable in our case. From LA and since Katrina we are Direct TV. Does anyone know of the picture quality with Direct TV and connections to a regular DVD or what would be needed. Thank you for any input.

Panasonic Plasma TH-42PX600U 42
5 Star Review   By member nsterzinger1 - Oct 13, 2006

Strengths: Great TV for the money. Good resolution and brightness. In addition to that Panasonic has a good reputation.

Weakness: Have not found any yet.

The TV is great. The best that that amount of money can buy! I have found it easy enough to install myself. I have not found any weaknesses. My wife and kids love the TV and I love that I saved a bunch of money buying it on the internet. When you want to buy a plasma I recommend to go to a few local stores and find what you want and then buy it on the internet.

Exceptional TV
5 Star Review   By member lucejui - Oct 6, 2006

Strengths: Excellent HD picture. TV guide is very useful after installing cablecard. Slick look. Perfect Size. Great so far for the football season. Sound exceeded my expectations.

Weakness: No PIP. I have a Philips DVD that I am running component cable to TV, I think the DVD needs to be replaced because the colors are not what I want after seeing HD.

Exceptional TV for the money. I purchased a SONY SXRD 50" and returned it. The TV was too big and I did not like the look for my room. The 42" is perfect size (by the way I sit 11 feet from tv). The look is awesome and the picture on local and HD is great. Very satisfied for the price I paid. I had cablecard installed, which I think made the picture even better. Now I have only one remote, can change channels on the TV and programmed my DVD player. Very satisfied thus far. Next is the audio.

the 42PX600U, an excellent HDTV plasma
5 Star Review   By member dtiller2 - Aug 29, 2006

Strengths: Exterior looks, picture quality, extra features over 60U model

Weakness: PIP feature

I owned the basic panasonic 42px60U model shortly after it was introduced in April 2006, but returned it to Best Buy (Magnolia) 3 weeks later. I then waited until August of 2006 to buy the 42px600U model at a great price. We did not like the cheaper looking silver finish of the 60U, but also decided to wait for the 600U due to the additional features, which include a cable card slot, upgraded speakers, pc input, and the picture in picture feature. After purchasing the 600U in early August, I upgraded the firmware to the latest version due to minor cable card issues mentioned by other owners on internet forums. We then had the cable card installed by our local cable provider and it works flawlessly. No need for a cable box and our cable bill increased only an additional $1.50 per month. The set looks great with the wider black bezel. The picture quality is near the top in the market. Certainly the best price/performance ratio. Lastly, in order for the picture in picture feature to work correctly, the set needs to have 2 components with tuners connected to the set. In our case the cable card and a DVD recorder serve this function. A VCR and set top box would be another example that would work. The set's PIP feature also will not work if your second tuner or STB is connected thru the rear HDMI input. Hopefully panasonic will address this HDMI input issue in a future firmware upgrade. I'd give this set a 95% approval rating.

Antenna Plug
4 Star Review   By member gdolmanisth - Aug 16, 2006

Strengths: Great picture and sound. Easy to read and follow set up instructions.

Weakness: Could not find any way to hook up my wirerless head phones.

The only problem that I had was when I tried to move the TV, I snapped off the antenna plug right at the base & now am waiting for a repair man to tell me how it can be fixed. I could not believe how easy it snapped off with very little pressure from the cable. Now I don't know if I will need a new tuner or if it can be soldiered together. It was only 2 days old.

Panasonic TH42PX600U
4 Star Review   By member MrMike1876 - Jul 13, 2006

Strengths: The best looking plasma in their line of 42" Plasma TV's. Picture is Great.

Weakness: Panasonic Technical Support.

I love the TV - the picture is amazing. I am not sure if I can recognize the 29 Billion Colors? The picture looks just as good as any other Hi Definition set. The menu is easy to navigate. The TV Guide feature does not seem to work properly - or actually recognize my cable's analog lineup. The HD Tuner is pretty cool - I actually get a couple HD Stations - PBS without the cable box. It took the Panasonic Technical support a long time to walk me through the connections to my home theater unit - which was defective - right when I took it out of the box. See my review for the Panasonic SC-HT830V Home Theater system for more details. Overall - I am happy with the TV - its probably the best that is out there right now. I figure it will last with the extended warranty - which was thrown in - by the corporate office because of the usually long wait time to receive this unit. It took me forever to get this TV - I originally purchased the 42px500U back in November - but Panasonic apparently did not anticipate demand - so I had to wait from original purchase date in November 2005 til June 2006 to get my TV.

this tv is brighter than me
4 Star Review   By member bobreey - Jul 10, 2006

Strengths: Brightness, Contrast level, easy menu functions and hookup, asthetics

Weakness: Lack of ability to split screen between video source and pc source. Lack of ability to control color on pc setting

While only a couple of weeks old, I am highly impressed with the picture. I replaced my Sony PFM42V1 ED plasma with this tv when it went bad after 2.5 years. I bought this tv with a 5 year extended warrenty at a local place to avoid the same problem. Thus far, I am extremely happy with the pic, but my cable company has yet to get out to hookup the hdtv, once they do, i will add a comment, however, dvd's, video files and standard digital cable look fantastic. My biggest beefs with the tv are: 1) the inability to split the screen and watch tv and have the pc on. A function my old sony did without issue 2) I had to fiddle a lot with the picture and brightness funcitons to get the tv where i wanted it. 3) The lack of the ability to adjust color level and tint when in pc mode. (My sony also lacked this ability. I have not used the HD tuner or the SD card slot, but will get around to them.
