Strengths: cost

Weakness: memory

This PDA is a great entry level device. It is easy to use and is a convient tool for calendar use and addresses. I had no problem syncing with Windows XP. Not for someone who wants frills, but for the price, it can't be beat.

5 Star Review   By member Lifelover1972 - Sep 17, 2004

Strengths: Battery life, Ease of use, EXCELLENT screen resolution.

Weakness: Memory.

I purchased this PDA for basic use. That being said, this is an excellent PDA. It has alot of intuitive controls and functions not found on more expensive models. This PDA has only 2mb of memory, hardley a storage warehouse. However if you are looking for BASIC functions only (Address/Phone book, Calandar, Appointments, Etc.) Then 2mb should be more than enough room. If you want to play games then simply look for another PDA. Bottom Line: This is a great PDA for those whose needs are basic. If you fall into this catagory, you can't go wrong!!!!

Strengths: Decent size screen for easy viewing, ease of use, intuitive interface, excellent battery life.

Weakness: ring tones for appointment reminder could have been louder

For basic everyday use for keeping track of appointments and schedules, this is one of the best there is. No fancy e-mail or internet or camera mode. I needed it for just one purpose, to keep track of my appointments and see the busy dates and times while making new ones and that is what this does perfectly. The graffitti is a nice feature, makes entries a lot quicker sometimes. The cover it comes with is also very nice. Computer interface speed is decent. Also, the different ways of viewing schedules is very handy. Satisfied with the purchase.

Strengths: Lithium Ion Battery, Ease of use

Weakness: 2 MB of Memory, different controls than other Palms, most Palm apps are not compatible.

This PDA is a PDA for people who do not want to spend money on a PDA. It is basicallly for storing addresses and keeping a schedule and nothing more.

Strengths: Palm OS® 4.1, Light / Easy to use.

Weakness: No back-light. Not alot of storage space.

I bought my Palm Zire after Christmas day of 2002. I really like what it has to offer. Entries are easy to add, sort, and etc. As I am getting more advanced, as a student, I would need a more powerful PDA Device. I do recommend the Palm® Zire for the starters (and basic/easy to use). Thumbs up!

Strengths: Small, Compact, Light, Good for basic tasks

Weakness: no backlight, only 2MB of RAM

this palm is good for basic tasks but with only 2MB you can't add many applications. It's small, light design looks great but it has no backlight.

3 Star Review   By member Victor112 - Jul 3, 2003

Strengths: Battery life, price is competitive

Weakness: no blacklite, very difficult to plug modems or datacables

I bought the Zire as a present for my birthday in December 2002. I was satisfied in principle. It is working great with the software included. For people using textfiles, it's great. There is also Office software on the market, if you plan to use Excel. If you plan to use email or Internet, you must get a infrared cell phone. Zire works on USB, so normal modems for normal telephone lines do not work.Email application are easy to find, shareware and freeware. At the conclusion, you will buy a practical PDA at a competitive price. With a little patience you wil be able to do much more than you expect with it.

Strengths: Battery Life, Size, PalmOS 4

Weakness: No back-light, 2M ram, no expansion, non-upgradeable, hard to find sync cable

This is the most practical PDA I've yet seen. The biggest plus the long battery life and rechargeability. I find that the trickle charging it does while hooked up to the USB is enough to keep it charged. I NEVER have to worry about the battery. You are not going to find that sort of convenience in any other PDA less than $200. You have to be careful what you load, because of the 2M ram. (e.g. Avantgo plus the morning paper is going to eat up half of your ram.) But if you hunt around for non-bloated alternatives you can pack lot onto the device. (I run an exercise tracker, a document reader, a couple of games, a guitar tuner, and a few other apps and still have over 1.5 M left over for data.) Pic one doc format, find a small footprint reader, and find a decent conversion script or app to get docs into that foramt. It works pretty well if you are careful. Two gripes: 1) The sync cable is a hard to locate accessory (unless you buy a $25 sync kit for the $5 cable in it) - it's an A to mini-B USB cable. 2) Palm should have put together a suite of small footprint third party apps on the install CD.

Strengths: It is so light!

Weakness: too basic

It is the cheapest PDA ever, but it just has basic functions. A student like me would be perfect, but for a businessman would have some problems. If you are a beginner, Zire fits your need.

Strengths: Price, OS, lite weight,

Weakness: Monochrome, no backlite

I have a Jornada 540 series, but the limitations are that you can establish connectivity with only two machines via ActiveSynch. So much for Pocket PC. I wanted to ty a Palm OS PDA to see if there was a difference. Happy to say there is. With InfoSych I can establish connections to as many machines as I want. More: With an add-on called Desktops to go, I can synch my Zire with Outlook on all of my other machines. So the Zire served its purpose, and I'll probably let it go on eBay and pick up a Palm OS with a color screen. Meanwhile in my experience all these PDAs are braindead, you can synch anything except address with Ird, what's that all about. Meanwhile you can take pics with some play mp3 (hah), make phone calls etc etc. Goofy geeks.

Strengths: cost

Weakness: low memory, no backlight, only 4 keys

I enjoy using my Zire. It works fairly well, and its low cost is one of its best features. If you are looking for an easy to use, basic pda, I would highly recommend the Zire. It is not good for some uses though, do to its skimpy 2MB of memory and lack of backlight. Another complaint is its lack of the traditional 6 buttons, which makes it a much more capable gaming machine (it doesn't complicate many other features though). If you do get a Zire, I recommend downloading some free software. Try palmgear.com and the PC World download center. My highly recommended program is AvantGo(avantgo.com). It allows you to pick websites from a comprehensive list with news, weather, sports, entertainment and more, and lets you put this info on your palm. Check it out, it works great. Bottom line: Before buying the Zire, check out the older, m105, which, although older, has more memory (8MB), a backlight, and more keys. I wish I had bought it, but the Palm is a good second choice.

Strengths: Simple to use, many third party applications to add on, one of which exports .qif files for Quicken

Weakness: b&w, no wireless

I was looking for something which could keep track of appointments, to dos, have a game or two for while on the train, and keep track of my cash expenditures to Quicken. This DOES IT and for only $99.00. A third party software suite called Splash exports cash expenses to .qif files which can be imported to Quicken, can also keep track of the many user names and passowrds, and also can show pictures. There's another 3rd party deal which can read ebooks. Just what I wanted, and backupable to my Mac, so I can enter data from either platform and synchornize both. A Great Deal! Thanks, Palm.
