Small is good
5 Star Review

Strengths: Its a little computer... I was surprised

Weakness: Can Occasionally bog down

I’ve been using desktops and laptops for years, for business and entertainment. Ive tried using hand helds off an on years ago and found them to be mostly ROM address books— so I just hung it up. I would watch others I knew use cryptic entry scribbles with little metal pens and after a couple of months I would notice they either bought the latest thing (hoping it would be better) or gave up using the little toy all together. Then I saw my doctor using one…. This unit is very kool in that it utilizes true computing power and software. Your not going to database with this and the screen wont allow lots of view, but for contact, schedule, games, etc, it is captivating. Indeed, I had bought an Ipod a few months before and now wish I had spent that money on a memory card and “lots” of music to put on this little beauty. Unexpectedly I have found it useful as a universal remote, and a complete bible study and reference tool and several other features that have paid for it. Ive only had to soft start it about 4 times and have never lost any data. It is fast, responsive, and has ample memory and storage capability. I’ve been using it about 3 months…. Get one

HP Ipaq2795
5 Star Review   By member jbroo61 - Apr 10, 2006

Strengths: Powerful in a small package, dual memory slots, great wi-fi

Weakness: Soft reset necessary alot, hard reset necessary once while using biometric fingerprint reader

I have been using this little baby for over three months now. It is really my first PDA. I had to have one after I saw my daughter's connect wirelessly at a hot spot and the ability it has to surf the net almost anywhere. I would, however, like a more powerful browser- there are sites with limited productivity due to security concerns with the browser. I would also highly recommend getting a bluetooth gps with this unit. I use garmin gps10. It is truly an amazing tool. With a 1gb cf card, you can have so many maps at your disposal. Battery life is great- recharge time is minimal. The only real flaw that I have with it at all is that it freezes often and must be soft reset- which only takes about 30 sec, so not a big deal. Once, however, while using the biometric fingerprint scanner, it froze where a hard reset was necessary and that was a problem because I lost all info; so, now I don't use that feature anymore. Maybe it was a one time thing but I don't want to find out and it's not like I have secrets on it. Overall, I would highly recommend this unit- just don't expect the fingerprint thing to be anything other than cool.

Nice product, but it has its weaknesses
4 Star Review   By member ke1m2play - Mar 3, 2006

Strengths: Great graphics, good speed, comfortable fit in your hand, good battery life.

Weakness: Biometric security feature turns the PDA on by itself: runs down the batteries or worse locks up the system and a hard reset is the only option, HP support is useless: no fix for this problem.

I love the look, feel, and performance of this PDA. I upgraded from a Palm m505 and was extremely excited about the new options and capabilities this PDA was touted to offer. But, I struggled with it for the first 2 months: system would lock up, batteries drained in several hours or overnight, had to hard reset to recover 3 times and lost data in the process because EasySync and Active Sync weren't working correctly either. I finally traced the problems back to the Biometric security feature: it would spontaneously turn on the iPaq when I wasn't using it and then it would lock up the system, which caused the backlight option to stay on full blast until the batteries finally died. Even if I'd catch it after it turned itself on, the system would be locked up and no number of soft resets would help. I email, called, begged and pleaded with HP Support and got no help at all. On the first call they told me that my year or support had expired...3 days after I received it. So I sent them my receipt for proof of purchase. Then they insisted I was doing something incorrectly in the biometrics software program, or had overloaded the memory area with new software that was degrading my performance. (I had loaded 5 Today Theme .tsk files to the 1 GB storage card on the first day and let's face it...there's not a lot you can do incorrectly with the biometrics program. It either reads your fingerprint or it doesn't. :) After hard resetting the PDA for the third time, I finally gave up on the security option and have had the pleasure of a well-behaved iPaq for the past 4 months. It's responsive, programs load quickly...even from the external storage card...WiFi range is good and battery power is quite acceptable. I know making the suggestion of leaving the biometric security system turned off rather defeats the purpose of even looking at this PDA, but the upgrade in system memory over the hx2495 make it a much better option for a few more bucks. Just don't expect great things from HP support. You're on your own here people!

hx2795 iPaq - Excellent Match
5 Star Review   By member foxmcf - Feb 18, 2006

Strengths: Good Battery Life Extremely Fast WI-FI and Bluetooth work like a charm HP Security Bundle Portrait and Landscape views Windows Mobile 5 Price is excellent if you do your on-line shopping

Weakness: Doens't have a VGA screen, but this probably gives the device better performance.

I have searched and read at least 15 websites for reviews on this product, and was not suprised to see several of these web-sites with the same two people giving it a bad review. It's my experience that many people start using the device and critiquing it only when they experience problems, and don't ever decide to consult the user manual to find specific instructions on how to perform the operation they desire. The hx2795 is replacing an old 3600 series iPaq. I generally use mine for GPS related work and the hx2795 has performed better than expected for me. Right out of the box, my battery had 94% battery life, and I used it off and on for two days after I bought it without needing to charge the battery (although the battery may not condition properly if you follow my example). When not using my GPS, and use it moderately throughout the day, I tend to run at 20% battery life left after 3 to 4 days. Once I plug the charger in, it will have a full charge within 3 to 4 hours! My IBM T42p laptop w/ bluetooth made for an easy and wireless ActiveSync. I synced my Outlook 2003 contacts, email, tasks and calendar without any hitch. I have a linksys portable wireless router that I was able to configure the hx2795 against. Configuration was quick and trouble free. Internet seemed to be just as fast as using my home desktop computer. I purchased Pocket CoPilot 6 w/ wireless bluetooth GPS receiver, and once again, worked flawlessely right out of the box. Since I have had the device, I have had to soft reset only 5 times within a month and a half. And 2 of the times was because of incompatible Pocket PC 2002 software I was trying to load. This is very comparable to my Palm Treo 650 that I have had for a year as far as soft resets. I did run out of battery a few days back for the first time. I bought a new RhinoSkin leather case and it didn't fit quite right, and was pressing down on one of the keys, leaving it on over night. But the persistent battery kept all my data safe, and didn't need to re-sync all my data. I turned on the key-lock after that incident. Overall, this is a very good purchase! I would do it again.

HP iPaq hx2795 PDA - Excellent Device
5 Star Review   By member joopnight - Jan 28, 2006

Strengths: Very fast, great colors, comes w/ windows mobile 5.0 (save 40 or so bucks right there), good feel w/ rubber siding, Biometrics is really cool for security

Weakness: I saw it turn on twice by itself! Also, its pricey, if you search the net for good deals you could get it for over a hundred bucks off. I bought mine for ~$450 w/ Mack 3 year extended warranty

I've only had this device for a few days, and its my first time buying a PDA, so i've really got to get used to using it. It really is a powerhorse, so fast! turns off w/in millisecond, and turns on blazingly fast too. The biometrics feature is cool too. So far it has been 100% accurate, my dad tried his finger (which was not registered) and the device said no match and did not allow him access. So security feature is cool, and if you want to bypass fingerprint scan you can...it then asks for a 4 digit pin number. The software is ok, it has writing program and it comes w/ windows media player 10. I havent tried music on this thing, but i'm sure it could be comparable to mp3 player; of course its a lot bigger than my creative muvo tx fm player. I'm currently in the process of getting software for it. My use for it is strictly medical; I'm a med student. I heard its good for clinical rotations, which is why i bought it. It was recommended to my by a few friends. I'm happy w/ my purchase so far, and once I get more software for it, I'll be even more pleased i think. Hope this helps! Cheers, Joopnight
