Unbeatable. Too bad they don't make them anymore.
5 Star Review   By member schlenbea - Mar 13, 2009

Strengths: Thunderous bass, unbelievable bass, and amazing bass! Has lasted me for over 6 years and still going strong.

Weakness: Control box has always been a little finicky. Sometimes it will produce crackling and pops when I turn the volume up or down. High end is a tiny little lacking.

I bought these back in 2003 for $140, shipping included. I am truly astounded at how much I have pushed these to the limit and the still KILL! I recently bought a power inverter for my car and brought the speakers to a tailgater. I must say, they sounded like I had invested $1000 or more in a nice stereo system! I had to be 500 feet away and the bass still shook my bones. Absolutely amazing! I want to find another pair and find a way to permanently mount them in my car.

amazing system. I love it, I don't think I will find a better system ever. I have it now for six years, and I don't remember I increased the volume more than 30%, coz it when it reaches there, and everything starts shaking....

5 Star Review

Strengths: Freaking loud and clear.

I have had this set for over 3 yrs now. I am still amazed at the volume that I can get out of the system. I really dont know why others have had such bad luck. I have taken this system to just below max level and had no problems. I turn it up and think to myself how much better this is than my sony surround sound unit with receiver in the living room. I use this system for parties at my place! The bass will shake your stuff off the desk, seriously!

Strengths: Weak

Weakness: Weaker than POOT

Had to return system #1 because 1 speaker did not work. Return #1, bad sub woofer. Return, #2, 2 speakers not working. Return, #3 sub woofer blows. (burn smell) Return, #4 (UTTERLY ANNOYED)bad sub woofer again. System #5, after "almost" 2 years of service sub woofer blows yet again and of course warranty has expired. I am not that hard on my system from scale of 1 - 10 loudest I played my system was 7. Like playing russian roulette with this system. Sounds GREAT when it works...Good luck.

Strengths: Powerful bass and good sound

Weakness: Like the last person said, it was built cheap.

I had a similar experience to the last person. While mine was fine for a year and a half, the SoundTouch Control Center started causing my speakers to have feedback too. I'm very mad that these are expensive speakers and they would fail like this. The problem is actually caused within the volume knob. The subwoofer still works fine.

Strengths: good bass good midrange

Weakness: tinsel leads on subwoofer

very good speakers for any type of gaming, music. no treble control but windows has one built in. In response to people with subwoofer problems. If your sub quits working its a 5 minute fix if your handy with a soldering gun. The tinsel leads that go from the hookup terminal to the voice coil of the subwoofer is the problem with the subwoofer. if it quits working pull the sub out and look at the tinsel lead. more then likely its broken or breaking. sinply solder where its frayed and voila perfectly good working subwoofer again.

Strengths: sensational for movies[especially] and also games , best for things that go boom !

Weakness: not as good for music ! but still quite good. they are very good for bluesy/reggae type music which uses the low bass they are only 4.1 !

i have had these for well over a year and they are great ! value for money they rock! when i got them the z-680s were not available until some 6 months later! i wasnt going to wait that long! everything came in a big box which was neatly packed and contained a small instruction booklet ! set up was very easy, pretty much idiot proof! i have found that they are definately best for movies and are great for games too but they seem to lack mid base for music ! also they have no tweeters or treble adjustment , but this doesnt seem to be a problem sound wise! you can get around this with settings on your pc but it is not generally needed ? i have had these turned up very loud and also very low ! for 99% of the time i run them at about 1/3 volume and with pc volume set at about 75% ! NOTE: i have not had them up super loud for any great length of time - ie 90%volume for 5 mins with pc volume at 75% ! its too damn loud ! blow your head off! :) with the sound volume low i find they seem to lack a bit of clarity ! i tried all sorts of things to improve the clarity and the best i could come up with was to remove the protective grills they come with ,they are much clearer at low volumes without them ! NOTE:a lack of clarity at low volumes- i sent logitech an email to find a cure but all they said was to turn the volume of the pc down [windows setting] and use the power of the amp in the bass box ! which was of no use at all! when i have the volume up loud they really need the grills back on them to take the sharpeness off the treble ! i find that they have bucketloads of power and bass and with the pc set at about 75% volume they never really need to be turned up any higher then about 50% [very loud indeed]! the bass seems a bit over powering so to balance it out i ended up keeping the sub away from the corner of the room/wall and also turn the bass adjustment all the way down ! with them turned up to 75% volume and the pc at the 75% they will most definately wake up the neighborhood! they dont distort until ear bleedingly high volume ! i tested them out with all kinds of music , movies and games ! they certainly give you atmosphere for your movies and games ! it is simply amazing how big a difference they they make ! i would go so far as to say that sound is probably more important for your movie or gaming experience than picture quality! you just do not get atmosphere from a high quality picture ! they are best suited to anything that is bass orientated! ie movies and games! highly recommended !

Strengths: very strong mid-range and bass

Weakness: lack of tweeters, but read on...

Very fine set of speakers. I build computers on the side for select customers and this is by far the best combination for the price. By utilizing the nVidia "Soundstorm" audio console that is integrated on the Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboards, I am able to tweak the quality of sound to almost anyones preferences - so the lack of tweeters on this particular speaker set is not such a negative.

Strengths: They have the best bass I have heard! Excellent quality even at very high volume. wall mountable, compact, looks good with or without speaker covers, and bass has cooling system.

Weakness: Could use some tweaters, maybe a remote. other then that awsome!

This has got to be the best set of speakers I have ever seen for this price. I got mine for $180 CAD and i don't regret it. The bass is super, the speakers are crisp and have excellent sound quality at high or low volume. The control panel is handy but this good of speakers need a remote. Haven't had any troubles. Note: to all those having quality troubles with there speakers, you need a sound card (not integrated) and it has to be of Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 quality or better. I have the Audigy 2 Extreme Gamer card so I have no troubles with the quality of my sound.

5 Star Review   By member isaacwd - Dec 25, 2003

Strengths: Awesome bass, relatively cheap, wall mounts.

Weakness: Poor documentation.

I'm not a so-called "audiophile", but I do appreciate good sound. I was looking for a system to replace my pair of Altec Lansing speakers. I wanted a more high-end system, but didn't want to pay an arm and a leg. These speakers are perfect. Setup was easy, and my system worked out of the box. Where they really shine is on songs with deep bass - I have mine in the basement, and if you go up-stairs with the volume at about 40%, you can feel the whole floor shake under your feet and hear the music crystal clear. I haven't ever turned these past 75%, and I don't think I ever will (for fear of blowing the sub and causing damage to my ears ;) I thought the mounts that come with the system for the satellites were really neat. They can be changed from desktop to wall by just un-screwing a bolt, flipping the mount, and tightening it up again. The one bad thing about these speakers was the documentation. It was a little booklet with most of the pages not even stapled in, few pictures, and very little literature past set-up. Overall I am really satisfied with these speakers, and I highly recommend them to anyone.

4 Star Review   By member josch00 - Nov 19, 2003

Strengths: The price/performance ratio is great! Huge sub for the money. Phase plugs fix common resonance problems and aid in high response without tweeter. Nice binding posts. Oh, and no "fuse problems"

Weakness: Sucky wires. No tweeter (can be compensated for by using eq'ing). Only spring clips on the amp, not the five-way binding posts that are on the speakers. No high control. Not quite Reference speakers.

This is a great set of speakers for the money! The sound is fairly smooth and bass extention is even if you don't place the sub under a desk or against a corner. I dont like the only way to input is through a male 1/8in mini jack. The should also have a female for more wiring flexibility. The flippable bases helped with hanging on the wall behind me for surround sound. Five-way binding posts on speakers added a nice touch, but the sub uses spring clips, which shows you that they are there mainly for astetics to please audiophiles such as myself. No tweeter, but the speakers have enough high range for the average user. I had to equalize them to add above 16khz extention for the best sound. the phase plugs help with cross-resonances, yet the brushed aluminum on the is showing minor corrosion(strange). The wiring set that logitech supplies is not good at all. The second day I had them, I went out and bought 14ga wiring for all the speakers. I have never used the grilles on them becase they seem to impede the precious high range. I found a noticeable db difference using a sound level meter when using test tones. The subwoofers magnet is so strong, that when I use it at extremely high volumes, you can see the picture on my monitor fluctuate(no magnetic shielding in the sub). This is why the sub is on the complete opposite side of my desk as my computer. There is a slight amp hiss at high volumes, but it is not overly intrusive. Taking into account the price, This is a great system

Strengths: The bass is totally kickin.

Weakness: After 7 hours of blastin them, the bass over heated and shut off, but after a couple minutes they turned back on, and were blastin again.

These speakers are wikked. They did cost a fair bit of money though, 229 (canadian) plus tax, but they were worth it. i love how when im running around in some games, i can now feel the explosions as well as see them. its great, i love them, and id reccomend them to anyone who's looking for a good set or speakers.

2 Star Review   By member Franklesniak - Sep 27, 2003

Strengths: High fidelity, great bass output, excellent sound

Weakness: QC Problems

Well, I've had nothing but problems with these speakers. I bought them in July 2002. They were DOA (dead on arrival), or at least the subwoofer was. I took them back to the store and got a new set. The new set worked okay for awhile, but one day I had the volume up (I'll admit, it was up loud, but not *that* loud) and I stepped outside for five minutes. I came back in to find that the subwoofer was blown-out. So, this time I called Logitech. They told me that I must have over-amped the sub. OK, well maybe I did (they told me that my master volume on the computer should not go above 25%), but I have never heard of any speaker set with such requirements (oh, and these requirements are not listed in the manual). Anyway, the guy gave me an RMA number and I sent the subwoofer out (I had to pay for shipping). Logitech first sent me the WRONG set of speakers (the 2.1 set, I forget the model number). I called them, they apologized, and sent out another set - this time on 2nd day shipping. This wasn't Logitech's fault, but UPS delayed the shipment for six days, so the 2nd day shipment didn't arrive until 10 days later! Anyway, I used the speakers for about 10 months or so without anymore problems. Last weekend, I threw a party in my apartment and I had the speakers connected to my laptop (I was playing MP3s through the laptop). I had the master volume around 25% (which I still think is ridiculous), and the subwoofer blew again!!

Strengths: very nice sound, lots of power, standard speaker wire makes it easy to change to higher guage, very good low and high end with few adjustments

Weakness: no cordless remote, no trebel control on tower, fade is touchy.

Overall this is a very nice system that will deliver awesome preformance for everyone except for the most picky audiophile. Definately a good buy for dorm rooms (especially if you wanna piss your neighbor or RA off). Great sound, great price and its not so big as to get in the way either, what more could you ask for?

Strengths: Big strong sound. Good for bass and heavy metal, very BAD for VOCAL.

Weakness: Vocal sounds like a background noice with these speakers! Especially if treble/fade is turned on high then vocal is completely covered by the other "noice" of the speakers.

Bought Z-560. On the very first day I put up sound and two of the small speakers started stinking. I brought it back to the store. Brought another one - same problem. Brought a third one - ok. Forgot about it. Now I discovered that actually sound is like coming from under the ground, especially the vocal. I tried the same CDs on another PC with regular PC speakers .... sounds much much better! Did you experience the same sound quality problem? I bought this stuff 2 months ago - will they take it back or exchange into another brand? All I know that I'm done with LOGITECH and that it is in my book of "DO NOT BUY" brands.

Strengths: Awesome, crisp sound from the speakers, the subwoofer is absolutely amazing for a $140 package. Better than the Klipch Pormedia couterparts.

Weakness: Haha. NONE! GO BUY THIS SYSTEM NOW!!!

Ok, the morons complaining about feedback? Are on crack. There is no feedback. Shut up. As far as fuse blowing goes in the first week? I've had mine for 2 months and nothings wrong yet. You can read other reviews about have it for a year and the fuse not blowing. I think the fuses are blowing because they have the volume on the soundcard down too low, and they have to turn the system up way to much, thus the amp does way to much work. Not many systems can handle being pushed all the way for extensive periods of time. This would cause the fuse to blow out quite quickly. What you need to so is turn the computer volume about 7/10th the way up because anymroe the Soundtouch control pod becomes way to sensitive. I have absolutely no complaints about this system. It's creates a deafening wall of sound while still reproducing awesome bass, and tinkling sounds in the background.

Strengths: Great sound. Very easy to set up. It is everything one could want in a system.

Weakness: NONE.

I may have had this system for only two hours but sometimes first impressions are the truest. I have read all the reviews and found Tom's Hardware the best for many products. I have gone to several stores and listened to many systems. I thought the Logitech Z-560 sounded the best. Now I've listened to a Classical CD on my own system. It sounds like I am at a concert. Earlier, my son was listening to some of his type of music and the walls were rocking along with the beat. On Sunday, May 4th I ordered mine thru Dell with free shipping and 10% discount. I paid $140 out-the-door. It arrived on May 9th in California. Don't wait as this is a fantastic sounding system and the price is right.

Strengths: usable response from 30hz at -6db, midrage well defined, excellent satellite design, cheap

Weakness: subwoofer placement is key for blending, rare fuse, non-shielded sub

Some people will pick on this subwoofer for all the wrong reasons, here's some general information that will help you not to make flismy accusation against this set and others. I've seen reviews where so supposed "audiophiles" will pick apart this system because logitech gave for example a 188w sub power claim and they found '100w' printed on the sub magnet. OK. Now, where was that rating listed? Oh, on the subwoofer basket - not on the amplifier. HENCE, IT IS NOT AN AMPLIFIER RATING. Logitech's amp ceiling (for the sub) sits at 188w for both z-560 and their new z-680 models. At full power, the amp is really pushing the envelope and creates a significant amount of distortion. The listing '100w' you see is called a "recommended power input" as in what the speaker can handle comfortably for long periods of time. With a separate amplifier, the sub alone could be run at 200w without hieghtened levels of THD (distortion) if the power is clean enough. The real facts are: - The satellites are crisp and provide largely on-axis sound due to the single driver design. - The subwoofer provides tremendous capacity, but it is better to use an external amp if you want to increase the bass, the control on the module tends to burn out the fuse quickly. - The sensitivity is second to none for the price - Remove grills on the satellites and the treble-range is much more pronounced - M3D - decent surround algorithm but do not use compressed sound files for playback (mp3)

Strengths: the powerful subwoofer, wall mountable satellites, can plug more than one speakers in one input, looks good.

Weakness: short wires, kinda expensive for not getting 5.1, the mountings are difficult to mount to corners of walls, cannot be adjusted to tilt(have to screw the nail in a certain way to tilt it downward)

I've owned this for about a year, but now is the first time I mounted them up in the corners of my small room. The output power is great, makes it deliver good quality sound. I have some speakers that are not being used, so I added 2 mid-size and 2 satellites speakers to the subwoofer total 8 speakers hooked up to this Logitech 560. Now I have sound wave almost everywhere I turn in my room, not a true 5.1 surround sound, but it'll do since I didn't spend on the extra speakers. For the money and the power it outputs, the 560 is great. My friends got a Yamaha TSS-1 its 5.1 and it cost around $150, but its not as powerful, and its difficult to mount the satellites to corners of the wall, unless you use the base as a hook, and hook the satellites to the edge of the base. Great for gaming (I play ghost recon on my bro 2.4Ghz, 512 ddr266 pc) and listen to music and playing movies. But now I move this sytem to my room hooked up to a 200mhz celeron sony, 128mb edo, win98se...hahahaha. My old pc can handle it, so it good. I'm waiting for my 3.06GHZ, 1gb ddr333, soundblaster 5.1, 9700 128 pro to arrive in a week or two.

Strengths: Sub compares to, and even beats, some lower end car subs. wall mounting brackets are the shizzle, my nizzle, and they are cheap

Weakness: m3d blows.. tryign to play mp3's out of all four speakers is almost impossible. tried it on my onboard sound, and on my SB extigy

So far, I have been impressed with everything but the m3d. if they just had a button that could pump whatever the front sattalites are playing, to the back ones, then I would give a perfect review. As far as these puppies blowing up on people, i have pumped mine at about , and played untill the police came and gave us a noise complaint. if i turned them up any louder, htere is distortion on the subwoofer, so I dont understand why you would want them any louder either way. If these blow, I have a 2 year warranty with the store i bought them from (future shop), cost my 29 bucks, so i think after a year and a half I will blow them, and see what they give me in return :) I suggest buying these off of a store that honers their warranty

Strengths: THX certified. lots of power. very loud, with no distortion. best price/performance ratio ever offered. Great cure for constipation. :D

Weakness: the heat sink is aluminium, this behemoth gets hot if driven hard for long periods

i was considering purchasing these speakers over the last few months. after seeing a demonstration of them i was convinced i had to have a set i bought them, set them up. and they sounded great for about 3 hours when the amp decided to take up smoking. (the thermal protection failed. heatsink should be copper) Writing off that set as a dud, i got the sub replaced the next day, and they have been performing admirably ever since. if you want speakers for your PC. you need not hear anything else. simply nothing compares to these babies.

Strengths: Great Value. Good sound for the $. Real binding posts for spades or bananas.

Weakness: Slight coloration of sound. Software EQ fine tuning recommended. Highs would sound crisper with a tweeter (but hey...look at the price tag.)Throw out the supplied speaker wire and get some 12awg.

If you're looking for a lot of sound from your computer for under $200, look no further. Don't listen to the reviews that say that they hum or hiss or that they blew the amp the first week. These people probably had the gain (volume) on the computer turned down way too low and compensated by turning up the speaker control, thus making the amp work too hard. That would cause all kinds of problems. With the computer volume control turned up to the max, that is the operating system AND the software volume control, I have never turned the Logitech volume control past 10 O'clock or so...it's PAINFULL! I leave the bass control at it's lowest setting and tweak with the software (MMJB) equalizer. (It's actually better to turn down the computer volume control somewhat, otherwise the Logitech volume control becomes much too sensitive.) I usually don't offer my opinion in a public forum like this, but for some reason I felt the need to write about these. I'm a satisfied customer.

Strengths: Sounds good when it works.

Weakness: Quality SUCKS!!!! Speakers dropping screws, massive feedback at 0 (zero) setting.

Was excited to get these speakers. They sound great hooked up. Then reality struck. Out of the box one speaker had a screw rolling around the speaker cone. When I popped the speaker screen, saw one screw completely missing and 3 out of the 4 screw mounts stripped so the screws would not tighten. They actually just drilled the screws into the plastic cases without any support or hardware mounting so when the guy goes crazy with the power screwdriver at the factory all the screw mounts strip. Second problem was a speaker wire clip will not hold tight. Keeps popping out. Ok, I can live with those two problems right? Wrong. Now get massive random feedback at 0 (zero) setting. I've never had these things above about 10% because they are loud enough at that level. Some of these guys cranking to 60% plus are nuts or deaf. Anyway, if I shake the control box the feedback will come and go. However, if I touch the volume control MASSIVE FEEDBACK. Overall a really crappy product.

Strengths: Great Sound

Weakness: Fuse Blows out easily

Fuse Blows out easily at more than 60% volume. When contacting Logitech Support, be prepared to yell and scream. They'll also expect you to pay the shipping of the subwoofer to them and the new product back to you (a good $30 each way - actual UPS charges). Turn around time, 3-4 weeks. After all this, Logitech sales still wants to know why my company is now refusing to stock or support their products.

So far these are the best 4.1 Surround speaker I've ever heard. You can keep turning up the sound without any problems, and the bass is the best, it has more than my Infinity home theater subwoofer.

Strengths: Nice and practical design, great value for the buck, more than enough power.

Weakness: Volume setting is hard to see with low light.

This speaker system is rock solid in its performances and it can really get a party going. The sub alone is worth the price!! I tried about every sound intense game on the market and even after a month I still get goosebumps when playing the Imperium Galactica 3 demo or the new Ureal 2003 demo! I have not experience any problem whatsoever either with sound quality or speaker burning up. I have to add that anyone who blows up a sub must be driving it really hard. Start slowly and let the system warm-up. After a month I can drive it very hard and it won't blow up :) Buy this if you want to save money and get a great system at the same time.

Strengths: Powerful bass, little distortion at extreme volumes, cool control center, 4 satellite surround

Weakness: Highs not as good as Klipsch, no center channel

I bought a set of these from newegg.com for my new computer. My old system had a Klipsch 2.1 system, and juxtaposing between the two models, my preference is the Logitechs. The Klipsch's are a great 2.1 speaker set, but lack the low range punch, and distort at anything above 80db. I also love the logitech control center (blue led and all!) and find the rotary knob a pleasure. However, the Logitechs do lack the highs of the Klipsch system, since they have no separate tweeter. But on the plus side, they have rubber woofer surrounds and a beatiful steel protrusion in the speaker itself. The subwoofer hits harder and louder than my neighbor's MTX car subs and it is tight and accurate...I reccomend these speakers for anyone who watches DVDs or plays a lot of games. You may have heard other people complain about the extreme lack of high range, but I haven't really noticed. Sure, they're not as clean as the Klipschs, but their advantages over Klipsch far outweigh their disadvantages. I listen to plenty of classical music on them, and I'm not complaining...

Strengths: price sound PRICE

Weakness: bass can be overpowering

The price on these is just simply amazing. These speakers sound 95% as good as the promedia 4.1 but without the heavy price tag following them. The heavy bass the speakers produce is awesome for games but can be overpowering at times for regular music. There is nothing cooler than playing counter strike or M.O.H. allied assault and FEELING the gun firing and then hearing the crisp chink of the cartridge being expelled from the chamber. Music with this system is really good overall. DVDs on these are awesome because the heavy bass works out well with the action movies that I like to watch. If you live in a confined space and are looking for speakers that ca pull double duty for games and entertainment these are perfect. I have heard the klipsch 4.1's and have the money to drop on them but why waste money when you can get the same quality and sound for half of the price. Final ratings I would set as follows: Games 10of10 music 8of10 movies 9.5of10 looking for speakers buy these.

Strengths: LOW PRICE! GREAT BASS!

Weakness: 4.1... not sure if this is really a weakness. I guess I would have to say the control unit is a little cheap compared to the professional quality of the speakers

I bought this system a month ago and am still thrilled about the quality. The bass from the sub is just tremendous. I never thought Multimedia speakers could sound this good. I compared it to the Klipsch 5.1 speakers at Best Buy and I picked these hands down. No regrets whatsoever.

Strengths: Awesome bass! Pure Power!

Weakness: Will not last!

Ladies and Gentlemen, save yourself the headache. Don't waste your money on these speakers. They have some serious issues. This is the second set I am having to send back. It has taken almost 2 months now to even get another set sent back to me. While these fellas are working, they are impressive. When I got my second set I was a bit gun shy and didnt want to blow these so I was gentle, and worked it into it...lasted a whole week, I blew them, smoke misted out of the port hole on the powered sub. If you read my review and buy them anyway, YOU can NOT say you have not been Warned! Buy something else!

Strengths: everything

Weakness: control pod

i blew up my last set but it was my fault i had the bass wayy too loud at the max and windows volume up high aswell.. i now have my second set, the key thing is to leave your windows volume, and bass fairly low, and just control it through the control pod..you have to remember you have to break in the speakers for a while, play different kinds of music so the sub since its new wont get messed up.. thats all you should have no problems with them. after the break in period you can gently add more volume and pass ONLY through the control pod.. these speakers are very loud and have alot of bass i dont see a reason to turn it up more than half honestly..i know sometimes you want to show off to your neighboors and friends, but just be gentle in the begining you wont regret it in the long run.

Strengths: Awsome Bass, Clean Sound, Nice Sound Controls.

Weakness: Poor High Range, Monster Heat Sink On Subwoofer.

The poor mans solution to the Klipsch 4.1 speakers. These speakers have some awsome bass better than the Klipsch but definatly not as good sounding as the Klipsch speakers have. If you're looking for some kicking speakers without breaking the bank this is the solution.

Strengths: Finally, an overpowered set of multimedia speakers, one that can handle some serious bass. Good midrange, a feature that seems to be lacking in MM speaker systems.

Weakness: Highs are not insanely crisp, which everyone seems to like. The Klipsch has horn tweeters, which as far as I am concerned, pretty much try and rip your face off, I don't like them.

As soon as I plugged these in, well, I definitely noticed how much I was missing. To those who are blowing things up, I think you need to understand the dynamics of speakers. Computer audio can go from 0 to 10000 in a split second, particularly during gaming, take it easy, or else buy speakers that can handle millisecond 100 watt spikes, sheesh. I really really like them, the power, good midrange for a 4.1 system.

Strengths: strong clear sound

Weakness: must tweak bass setting on sound card

I ordered this very heavy speaker system and have been very pleased with the product. I myself have never owned high quality speakers such as these nor a 4.1 setup to play games on, so this has been quite the experience. I did a lot of research online before ordering them, and they came out on top as the best bang for your buck and then some. Only problem is I must wait till my apartment mates of away or not sleepy in order to play anything bassy.

Strengths: Excellent sound quality, plenty of power.

Weakness: Softsound connection is a little finiky, no treble control...

I've been watching these speakers for some time now, and finally decided to get a set. I wanted to get something that was at least comparable to the mini home theater system I had my computer hooked up to (gave theater sys. to my mom for her birthday). All I can say is "Man O-man"... These things really jam!!! I read a couple of not so shining reviews and was admittedly a little wary. I've just hooked em up, and have only had one very minor hickup. The softsound connection didn't want to connect!!! The softsound connection is the main hook up from the sub to the control unit. Without it you get no sound, which is what I got at first... but with a little force I managed to jam the connection home. After that its been smooth sailing... Hell, for what I paid for them they can't be beat.

Strengths: Sub-woofer and the sound output

Weakness: None.

I bought the Klipsch promedia 4.1 and didn't like it and so I had to return it. Then bought a Boston Acoustics BA4800, which is very nice with enough bass and volume. I like it very much and I was looking for another computer speaker system (well, you can use these speakers with any audio source) and came accross this one (Z-560) and bought it online. All I can say is I am thrilled with this product. I will consider this beats the two other competitors I have tried. Buy with confidence, you wont regret.

Strengths: Ultra high quality sound - clear, powerful, well separated instruments. Incredibly well built components.

Weakness: Minimal: Can't fully turn down bass. No treble control. Very faint hum from amp on sub-woofer (inaudible when computer is running).

My PC now is better than my $700 stereo - I hear detail on my Cd's that I've never heard before. Gaming is immersive. At less than $130 street price, the z-560 must be one of the best bargains in computing.

Strengths: Deep Bass

Weakness: No treble

As with any powerful sub you have to break it in. If you set the bass and sound setting past 66% in the beginning you are going to cause problems. Info from a speak web site. Sub woofer have moving parts that are generally rather stiff when they come out of the factory. One of these parts is called the surround; it's the rounded piece of rubber or foam that connects the outer edge of the cone or dome to the speaker basket. The other is called the spider; it's the part that connects the center of a woofer cone to the back part of the speaker basket, and that keeps the woofer's voice coil centered in the voice-coil gap.

Strengths: Excellent price and sound great.

Weakness: None as of yet.

I am most impressed with this 4.1 system. Do yourself a favor if shopping for a pair of 4.1s and give these a try!! Paid 205.00 at CompUSA. Can get cheaper subtotal on net but watch shipping costs and also this 205(excluding 5% sales tax) also includes a 1 yr no questions replacement policy courtesy of Comp USA. Also, there is no way you can listen to these things at anywhere near 90-100% volume if you have them set up properly, no offense intended if you blew yours up. Would give 5 stars except I have never owned any multimedia speakers even close in comparison with these speakers.

Strengths: Great price, good sound.

Weakness: 100W RMS TB-Speakers 8" subwoofer driver

I love this system until the sub quit working, then it would play for 10 seconds, then quit again. I popped the unit open and noticed Logitech uses TB Speakers W8-670C (p/n 01-00023) 8" driver, rated 100W (this is printed right on the sub). They claim 188W RMS, but the driver is not. Maybe thats why it stoped working. I play UT and Winamp at the same time up to 65% Max volume. The 20 minutes on hold to get an RMA# sucked and then they told me to send the complete system back. I have all the satalights mounted on the walls, and shipping the complete system would set me back ~$40-50. I only paid $110 shipped to my house. So I'll do it the easy way, buy another set localy, and return the smoked sub. I hope the next one I get will have the correct spec. sub. if not, they will be getting and email from me.

Strengths: Very cheap in price... sounds great...

Weakness: none so far except the m3d is useless in my opinion...

For those of you with the z560's that have exploded or what not... you should have been smart enough to NOT turn the volume of the speakers 3/4 of the way or even 95% up... theres more than enough power if you just have it 1/4 of the way... and regarding the windows sound control that someone made before me... you should have it at the first mark and then raise the volume on the speakers to get less crackling... that goes for any speaker system... I have had no problems at all with my system, and i doubt that you will too if you would use your system properly =)

Strengths: Price to quality ratio, Frequency Range Good for price, Sub Very Decent although the Alpine in the car is better :)

Weakness: none really yet sure treble control but thats about it...

Ok well for all those that blew the amp you probably did it because you enhanced bass through your software if you would turn it all down and use the systems bass it would work i have tried it with mine now for 2 weeks about 3/4 although i don't know how gaming at 3/4 volume is capable because its very ear piercing in a small room... I bet you 9/10 the blown amps are because of the bass amplification through software (IE WIndOWS VOLUME CONTROL) or some kind of software amplification! The unit is very powerfull... AND THIS INS"T A HOME STEREO! but definitely better quality then almost all mini systems i have heard even sony for some reason ppl like sony for audio anyway :) back to the point VERY worthy system... When you look at 1 factor sound to price quality you have to recommend this system...Highly recomended... Regards Drei

Strengths: Sounds great when they work ...

Weakness: Obviously some quality control issues at logitech

I got these speakers the other day and had to test them out so I was playing some music at 3/4 max volume. Suddenly the music stopped and smoke started coming out of the subwoofer after about 7 minutes of play time. I figured my situation was a fluke but look at the other reviews on here that tell the same story. I reccomend these speakers only when Logitech gets their quality control issues sorted out. Another thing: you would think you could save a bundle by buying these speakers over the internet but it doesn't turn out to be such a value when you have to return ship a defective package which weighs approximately 45 pounds.

Strengths: Superb sound, Heart pounding Bass, LOUD

Weakness: Absolutely none.

These speakers coupled with Sound Blaster Audigy Platnium are absolutely phenomenal. Miles above Klipsch considering price/performance. Crackling reported by others users is more likely caused by sound card. I heard cracking at first configured sound card. Not a single problem since then. Best Computer speakers money can buy. Strengths: Unbelievably LOUD! Sound is very very crisp and accurate... There is no distortion.

Weakness: The only thing lacking is treble control... This only becomes a problem when at very very loud volumes. But on the upside, you can tweak with it using programs like winamp.

I just got my speakers yesterday and my God... they are the best thing I've heard. The sub can match some of the systems guys install in their cars. The control center is a beauty and ease to handle. I was considering the Klipsch 2.1s which go for 179... 200 watts... then i found these for 150$ 400 watts. From all the reviews I have read... this system not only matched the Klipsch 4.1s but also exceeded them in certain aspects. The 4.1s were 300$. Must anymore be said about how unbelievable this set of speakers are. Hands down... if you are an audiophile like me... You MUST have these!

Strengths: Great Price, Ample power

Weakness: Not at these prices.

To make a long story short... bought the Klipsch Pro Media 4.1, took them back (Best Buy $269). Ordered these from Computers4Sure for $139 + 19.90 for shipping via PriceGrabber. The first pair of Klipsch had high pitched squeeling sound from two of the satellites. The second set sounded better than the first, but the lustre wore off the Klipsch and I went shopping. Read a couple of good reviews on the Z560's and decide to roll the dice--twice. Nobody had them on display at any store (didn't get to demo them) and I ordered them online. Boy am I glad I did. How do they sound? Every bit as good as the Klipsch if not better. If you've heard the Klipsch don't be afraid to order these, you will be pleased. Pro's: great volume, real heat sink's on the back of the sub, screw type speaker terminals on the satellites (klipsch has cheap plug-in connector)this also lets you use your own speaker wire if you choose (i.e. need longer wires for your install?), separate control pod that can mount horizontal or vertical (klipsch is integrated into one of the satellites). Cons: Can't think of one. The price of this Z560's speaker kit blows away Klipsch. Don't get me wrong the Klipsch are fine but if you want to save some cash you won't be disappointed. Before buying, compare not only the speaker price but the shipping price. Some places shipping prices can be quite steep. PriceGrabber made the comparison shopping real easy too.

Strengths: Superb price ($199) for the great high, mid and low range sounds. Pure power with good looks. Functional cooling fins on the rear of subwoofer... keeps it cool when cranking at high levels!

Weakness: None, none and none! Oh, did I say none already? NONE.

I once owned the Klipsch Promedia 4.1's and blew out the subwoofer in less than 3 days due to the poor design of the subwoofer overheating. The amp was enclosed in the subwoofer without adequate ventilation. Dah.... heat causes distortion and ultimately the end of any electronic thingy. The Klipsch's had below average sound seperation. I had to return the Klipsch and did not even bother getting a replacement... terrible experience. It left a foul taste in my mouth and a void since I did want a power audio system for my PC. Months past and never found another system that had the brute power as the Klipsch. Fortunately, I found the Logitech Z-560's on display prior to Christmas 2001 and wrote a letter to Santa (the wife) and what do you know... I am grinning from ear to ear!!! The Z-560's rock and have functional cooling fins... so I know I will not have over-heating issues like the Klipsch's. They are bar-none the best power audio system available for PC's. I highly recommend!!!

Strengths: AS POWERFUL AS THE KLIPSCH 4.1 AT HALF THE COST

Weakness: THE M3D BUTTON--I DON'T GET IT

AS POWERFUL AS THE KLIPSCH 4.1 AT HALF THE COST.THE HIGHS ARE SOFTER AND CLEANER. AND THE BASS IS MORE POWERFUL.YOU CAN SHUT THE POWER DOWN AT BOTH THE BASS AND THE CONTROL BOX. HO YEAH- THE CONTROL BOX - I LOVE THIS FEATURE! YOU NO LONGER HAVE TO HAVE THE CONTROL SPEAKER WITHIN ARMS REACH, AS WITH THE KLIPSCH, MUCH BETTER SEPORATION! IT ALSO HAS HEADPHONE JACK-NICE. I OWN BOTH AND PLAYED THEM SIDE BY SIDE, WHAT CAN I SAY? AT TWICE THE PRICE-----ANYONE WANT A USED SET OF KLIPSCH SPEAKERS?
